Abstract:We introduce the $\textit{Macaulay2}$ package $\texttt{OIGroebnerBases}$ for working with OI-modules over Noetherian polynomial OI-algebras. The main methods implement OI-analogues of Buchberger's algorithm and Schreyer's theorem to compute Gröbner bases, syzygies and free resolutions of submodules of free OI-modules.

Abstract:Given a sequence of related modules $M_n$ defined over a sequence of related polynomial rings, one may ask how to simultaneously compute a finite Gröbner basis for each $M_n$. Furthermore, one may ask how to simultaneously compute the module of syzygies of each $M_n$. In this paper we address both questions. Working in the setting of OI-modules over a Noetherian polynomial OI-algebra, we provide OI-analogues of Buchberger's Criterion, Buchberger's Algorithm for computing Gröbner bases, and Schreyer's Theorem for computing syzygies. We also establish a stabilization result for Gröbner bases.

Abstract:A Maple package for computing Groebner bases of linear difference ideals is described. The underlying algorithm is based on Janet and Janet-like monomial divisions associated with finite difference operators. The package can be used, for example, for automatic generation of difference schemes for linear partial differential equations and for reduction of multiloop Feynman integrals. These two possible applications are illustrated by simple examples of the Laplace equation and a one-loop scalar integral of propagator type

Abstract:In this Macaulay2 \cite{M2} package we define an object called {\it linear code}. We implement functions that compute basic parameters and objects associated with a linear code, such as generator and parity check matrices, the dual code, length, dimension, and minimum distance, among others. We define an object {\it evaluation code}, a construction which allows to study linear codes using tools of algebraic geometry and commutative algebra. We implement functions to generate important families of linear codes such as Hamming codes, cyclic codes, Reed--Solomon codes, Reed--Muller codes, Cartesian codes, monomial--Cartesian codes, and toric codes. In addition, we define functions for the syndrome decoding algorithm and locally recoverable code construction, which are important tools in applications of linear codes. Abstract:We introduce the MatrixSchubert package for the computer algebra system Macaulay2. This package has tools to construct and study matrix Schubert varieties and alternating sign matrix (ASM) varieties. The package also introduces tools for quickly computing homological invariants of such varieties, finding the components of an ASM variety, and checking if a union of matrix Schubert varieties is an ASM variety.

Abstract:Using discrete Morse theory, Batzies and Welker introduced Morse resolutions of monomial ideals. In this note, we present the {\it Macaulay2} package {\tt MorseResolutions} for working with two important classes of Morse resolutions: Lyubeznik and Barile-Macchia resolutions. This package also contains procedures to search for a minimal Barile-Macchia resolution of a given monomial ideal.

Abstract:Algebraic methods have a long history in statistics. The most prominent manifestation of modern algebra in statistics can be seen in the field of algebraic statistics, which brings tools from commutative algebra and algebraic geometry to bear on statistical problems. Now over two decades old, algebraic statistics has applications in a wide range of theoretical and applied statistical domains. Nevertheless, algebraic statistical methods are still not mainstream, mostly due to a lack of easy off-the-shelf implementations. In this article we debut m2r, an R package that connects R to Macaulay2 through a persistent back-end socket connection running locally or on a cloud server. Topics range from basic use of m2r to applications and design philosophy.

The multigraded BGG correspondence in Macaulay2

Abstract:We give an overview of a Macaulay2 package for computing with the multigraded BGG correspondence. This software builds on the package BGG due to Abo-Decker-Eisenbud-Schreyer-Smith-Stillman, which concerns the standard graded BGG correspondence. In addition to implementing the multigraded BGG functors, this package includes an implementation of differential modules and their minimal free resolutions, and it contains a method for computing strongly linear strands of multigraded free resolutions.

It allows to compute the homological shift ideals of a monomial ideal, and to check the homological shift properties, including having linear resolution, having linear quotients, or being polymatroidal. Abstract:We explain a Macaulay2 implementation of a construction, which appeared in [Holweck-Oeding <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2206.13662" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.13662">arXiv:2206.13662</a>], of a graded algebra structure on the direct sum of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ (typically $\mathfrak{sl}_n$) and a $\mathfrak{g}$-module (typically a subspace of an exterior algebra $\bigwedge^{\bullet}\mathbb{C}^n$). We implement brackets, a Killing form, matrix representations of adjoint operators and ranks of blocks of their powers.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{P}$ be a collection of cells and $I_\mathcal{P}$ be the associated ideal of inner $2$-minors as defined by A. A. Qureshi in 2012. In this paper, we provide a description of the package $\texttt{PolyominoIdeals}$ for the computer algebra software $\texttt{Macaulay2}$. More precisely, this package provides some functions that allow to define the ideal $I_{\mathcal{P}}$ in $\texttt{Macaulay2}$ and to compute its algebraic invariants or verifying its algebraic properties. We explain the usage of these functions and also give some examples. Refer to the tool provided in $\textit{https://rizwan.phd/polyo/}$ to get easier the desired input data for $\texttt{Macaulay2}$.

Abstract:This article introduces the package MatchingFields for Macaulay2 and highlights some open problems. A matching field is a combinatorial object whose data encodes a candidate toric degeneration of a Grassmannian or partial flag variety of type A. Each coherent matching field is associated to a certain maximal cone of the respective tropical variety. The MatchingFields package provides methods to construct matching fields along with their rings, ideals, polyhedra and matroids. The package also supplies methods to test whether a matching field is coherent, linkage and gives rise to a toric degeneration.

Abstract:We give illustrative examples of how the computer algebra system OSCAR can support research in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry. We start with a thorough introduction to Groebner basis techniques, with particular emphasis on the computation of syzygies, then apply these techniques to deal with ideal and ring theoretic concepts such as primary decomposition and normalization, and finally use them for geometric case studies which concern curves and surfaces, both from a local and global point of view.

Abstract:Using techniques coming from the theory of marked bases, we develop new computational methods for detection and construction of Cohen-Macaulay, Gorenstein and complete intersection homogeneous polynomial ideals. Thanks to the functorial properties of marked bases, an elementary and effective proof of the openness of arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay, arithmetically Gorenstein and strict complete intersection loci in a Hilbert scheme follows, for a non-constant Hilbert polynomial.

Abstract:The main results of this paper establish a partial correspondence between two previously-studied analogues of Groebner bases in the setting of algebras: namely, subalgebra (aka SAGBI) bases for quotients of polynomial rings and Khovanskii bases for valued algebras. We aim to bridge the gap between the concrete, computational aspects of the former and the more abstract theory of the latter. Our philosophy is that most interesting examples of Khovanskii bases can also be realized as subalgebra bases and vice-versa. We also discuss the computation of Newton-Okounkov bodies, illustrating how interpreting Khovanskii bases as subalgebra bases makes them more amenable to the existing computer algebra tools.
