Abstract:The present paper introduces a quantum weak measurement (WM) scheme for the measurement of the complex magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE). We achieve the simultaneous measurement of the Kerr rotation angle and the ellipticity in a single WM process by utilizing two auxiliary pointers derived from the same meter state. The experimental measurement precision for both the Kerr rotation angle and the ellipticity is capable of reaching $10^{-4}$ deg. This technique is also employed for the determination of the complex magneto-optical constant $Q$. The proposed method overcomes the limitation of acquiring the complex magneto-optical Kerr parameters through a multi-step measurement process, which was previously encountered. This breakthrough holds immense significance for efficiently measuring and applying the complex MOKE with high precision and cost-effectiveness.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to improve the accuracy and efficiency of Complex Magneto - Optical Kerr Effect (CM - OKE) measurement. Specifically, the paper proposes a method based on Weak Measurement (WM). By introducing two auxiliary pointers, it can simultaneously measure the Kerr rotation angle (\(\theta_K\)) and ellipticity (\(\varepsilon_K\)) during a single measurement process. This method overcomes the limitation of having to measure these two parameters separately in traditional methods, thereby improving the measurement efficiency and accuracy. ### Background - **Complex Magneto - Optical Kerr Effect (CM - OKE)**: When a linearly polarized light beam is incident on the surface of a magnetic medium, the polarization state of the reflected light will change. This phenomenon is called the magneto - optical Kerr effect. CM - OKE includes the Kerr rotation angle \(\theta_K\) and ellipticity \(\varepsilon_K\). - **Traditional measurement methods**: Usually, it is necessary to adjust the angle of the quarter - wave plate separately to measure \(\theta_K\) and \(\varepsilon_K\), which not only reduces the measurement efficiency but also introduces additional errors. - **Weak Measurement (WM)**: A technology that achieves high - precision parameter measurement by amplifying observables, including three processes: pre - selection, weak coupling, and post - selection. ### Solutions - **Method**: The paper proposes a new WM scheme, using two auxiliary pointers (modified shift \(\Delta'\) and relative intensity change \(\eta\)) to simultaneously measure \(\theta_K\) and \(\varepsilon_K\) during a single measurement process. - **Experimental system**: Use a He - Ne laser as the light source and implement the measurement through a series of optical elements (such as half - wave plates, Glan - laser polarizers, non - polarizing beam splitters, lenses, etc.). - **Results**: The experimental results show that this method can simultaneously measure \(\theta_K\) and \(\varepsilon_K\) with an accuracy of \(10^{- 4}\) degrees, and further verify the effectiveness of the method by calculating the complex magneto - optical constant \(Q\). ### Formulas - **Kerr rotation angle and ellipticity**: \[ \Theta_K=\theta_K - i\varepsilon_K \] - **Complex magneto - optical constant \(Q\)**: \[ Q = \frac{(n_1^2 - n_0^2)(\varepsilon_K - i\theta_K)}{n_0n_1m_z} \] - **Auxiliary pointers \(\Delta'\) and \(\eta\)**: \[ \Delta'=\frac{k\delta r_p}{2zr_s}\Delta+\theta_{K0} \] \[ \eta=\frac{r_p^2\delta^2}{r_s^2w^2}(\theta_K^2+\varepsilon_K^2) \] ### Significance - **High precision and high efficiency**: This method significantly improves the measurement accuracy and efficiency, providing a new way for efficient measurement and application of the complex magneto - optical Kerr effect. - **Wide applicability**: This technology can be applied to the study of the properties of magnetic materials, such as magnetic domain imaging, magneto - optical ellipsometry, magneto - optical recording, etc. In conclusion, through the introduction of a new WM method, this paper successfully solves the problem of having to measure \(\theta_K\) and \(\varepsilon_K\) separately in traditional methods, providing an effective solution for high - precision measurement of the complex magneto - optical Kerr effect.
