Abstract:We describe combinatorially the Cohen-Macaulay type of edge-weighted r-path suspensions of edge-weighted graphs for an arbitrary positive integer r. The computation of the Cohen-Macaulay type of edge-weighted suspensions of edge-weighted graphs becomes a special case of r = 1.

Abstract:Some recent investigations indicate that for the classification of Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals, it suffices to consider biconnected graphs with some whiskers attached (in short, `block with whiskers'). This paper provides explicit combinatorial formulae for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of two specific classes of Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals: (i) chain of cycles with whiskers and (ii) $r$-regular $r$-connected block with whiskers. For the first type, we introduce a new invariant of graphs in terms of the number of blocks in certain induced block graphs, and this invariant may help determine the regularity of other classes of binomial edge ideals. For the second type, we present the formula as a linear function of $r$.

Abstract:In this paper, we explicitly give combinatorial formulas for the regularity of powers of edge ideals, $\reg(I(D)^k)$, of weighted oriented unmixed forests $D$ whose leaves are sinks ($V^+(D)$ are sinks). This combinatorial formula is a piecewise linear function of $k$, for $k \geq 1$.

Abstract:We characterize unmixed and Cohen-Macaulay edge-weighted edge ideals of very well-covered graphs. We also provide examples of oriented graphs which have unmixed and non-Cohen-Macaulay vertex-weighted edge ideals, while the edge ideal of their underlying graph is Cohen-Macaulay. This disproves a conjecture posed by Pitones, Reyes and Toledo.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. The study of the edge ideal [math] of a weighted oriented graph [math] with underlying graph [math] started in the context of Reed–Muller type codes. We generalize some Cohen–Macaulay constructions for [math], which Villarreal gave for edge ideals of simple graphs. Our constructions can be used to produce large classes of Cohen–Macaulay weighted oriented edge ideals. We use these constructions to classify all the Cohen–Macaulay weighted oriented edge ideals, whose underlying graph is a cycle. We also show that [math] is Cohen–Macaulay if and only if [math] is unmixed and [math] is Cohen–Macaulay, where [math] denotes the cycle of length [math]. Miller generalized the concept of Alexander dual ideals of square-free monomial ideals to arbitrary monomial ideals, and in that direction, we study the Alexander dual of [math] and its conditions to be Cohen–Macaulay.

Abstract:Herzog, Hibi, and Zheng classified the Cohen-Macaulay edge ideals of chordal graphs. In this paper, we classify Cohen-Macaulay edge ideals of (vertex) weighted oriented chordal and simplicial graphs, a more general class of monomial ideals. In particular, we show that the Cohen-Macaulay property of these ideals is equivalent to the unmixed one and hence, independent of the underlying field.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a family of $r$-graphs. The Turán number $ex_r(n;\mathcal{F})$ is defined to be the maximum number of edges in an $r$-graph of order $n$ that is $\mathcal{F}$-free. The famous Erdős Matching Conjecture shows that \[ ex_r(n,M_{k+1}^{(r)})= \max\left\{\binom{rk+r-1}{r},\binom{n}{r}-\binom{n-k}{r}\right\}, \] where $M_{k+1}^{(r)}$ represents the $r$-graph consisting of $k+1$ disjoint edges. Motivated by this conjecture, we consider the Turán problem for tight linear forests. A tight linear forest is an $r$-graph whose connected components are all tight paths or isolated vertices. Let $\mathcal{L}_{n,k}^{(r)}$ be the family of all tight linear forests of order $n$ with $k$ edges in $r$-graphs. In this paper, we prove that for sufficiently large $n$, \[ ex_r(n;\mathcal{L}_{n,k}^{(r)})=\max\left\{\binom{k}{r}, \binom{n}{r}-\binom{n-\left\lfloor (k-1)/r\right \rfloor}{r}\right\}+d, \] where $d=o(n^r)$ and if $r=3$ and $k=cn$ with $0<c<1$, if $r\geq 4$ and $k=cn$ with $0<c<1/2$. The proof is based on the weak regularity lemma for hypergraphs. We also conjecture that for arbitrary $k$ satisfying $k \equiv 1\ (mod\ r)$, the error term $d$ in the above result equals 0. We prove that the proposed conjecture implies the Erdős Matching Conjecture directly.

Abstract:Given an $r$-graph $F$ with $r \ge 2$, let $\mathrm{ex}(n, (t+1) F)$ denote the maximum number of edges in an $n$-vertex $r$-graph with at most $t$ pairwise vertex-disjoint copies of $F$. Extending several old results and complementing prior work [J. Hou, H. Li, X. Liu, L.-T. Yuan, and Y. Zhang. A step towards a general density Corrádi--Hajnal theorem. <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2302.09849" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2302.09849">arXiv:2302.09849</a>, 2023.] on nondegenerate hypergraphs, we initiate a systematic study on $\mathrm{ex}(n, (t+1) F)$ for degenerate hypergraphs $F$. For a broad class of degenerate hypergraphs $F$, we present near-optimal upper bounds for $\mathrm{ex}(n, (t+1) F)$ when $n$ is sufficiently large and $t$ lies in intervals $\left[0, \frac{\varepsilon \cdot \mathrm{ex}(n,F)}{n^{r-1}}\right]$, $\left[\frac{\mathrm{ex}(n,F)}{\varepsilon n^{r-1}}, \varepsilon n \right]$, and $\left[ (1-\varepsilon)\frac{n}{v(F)}, \frac{n}{v(F)} \right]$, where $\varepsilon > 0$ is a constant depending only on $F$. Our results reveal very different structures for extremal constructions across the three intervals, and we provide characterizations of extremal constructions within the first interval. Additionally, for graphs, we offer a characterization of extremal constructions within the second interval. Our proof for the first interval also applies to a special class of nondegenerate hypergraphs, including those with undetermined Turán densities, partially improving a result in [J. Hou, H. Li, X. Abstract:Let $\phi _H^r(n)$ be the smallest integer such that, for all r-graphs G on n vertices, the edge set E(G) can be partitioned into at most $\phi _H^r(n)$ parts, of which every part either is a single edge or forms an r-graph isomorphic to H. The function $\phi ^2_H(n)$ has been well studied in literature, but for the case $r\ge 3$, the problem of determining $\phi _H^r(n)$ is widely open. Sousa (Electron J Comb 17:R40, 2010) gave an asymptotic value of $\phi _H^r(n)$ when H is an r-graph with exactly 2 edges, and determined the exact value of $\phi _H^r(n)$ in some special cases. In this paper, we give the exact value of $\phi _H^r(n)$ when H is an r-graph with exactly 2 edges, which completes Sousa’s result, we further determine the exact value of $\phi _H^r(n)$ when H is an r-graph consisting of exactly k independent edges.
Cohen-Macaulay Property of Binomial Edge Ideals with Girth of Graphs

Abstract:Conca and Varbaro (Invent. Math. 221 (2020), no. 3) showed the equality of depth of a graded ideal and its initial ideal in a polynomial ring when the initial ideal is square-free. In this paper, we give some beautiful applications of this fact in the study of Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals. We prove that for the characterization of Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals, it is enough to consider only "biconnected graphs with some whisker attached" and this done by investigating the initial ideals. We give several necessary conditions for a binomial edge ideal to be Cohen-Macaulay in terms of smaller graphs. Also, under a hypothesis, we give a sufficient condition for Cohen-Macaulayness of binomial edge ideals in terms of blocks of graphs. Moreover, we show that a graph with Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideal has girth less than $5$ or equal to infinity.

Abstract:We investigate Cohen-Macaulay representations of quotient singularities $R:=l[[x_1,\cdots,x_d]]^G$ where $l$ is a field and $G$ is a finite group acting on $l[[x_1,\cdots,x_d]]$ as a ring, not necessarily as an $l$-algebra, with $|G|$ not divided by ${\rm char}\, l$. In fact, if we put $k:=l^G$, then we may assume that $G$ is a subgroup of $GL_d(l)\rtimes{\rm Gal}(l/k)$. We show that $R$ has a generator giving an NCCR and therefore when $d=2$, it is of finite Cohen-Macaulay type. Additionally, we completely describe its Auslander-Reiten quiver, which is often non-simply laced, as a quotient of a certain quiver. Moreover, we also prove that two-dimensional rings of finite Cohen-Macaulay type of equicharacteristic zero are precisely quotient singularities of this form, which generalizes Esnault and Auslander's result. Combining these results, we prove that the quivers that may arise as the Auslander-Reiten quiver of a two-dimensional Gorenstein ring of finite Cohen-Macaulay type of equicharacteristic zero are either doubles of extended Dynkin diagrams or ones having loops. To accomplish these, we establish two results which are of independent interest. First, we prove the existence of $(d-1)$-almost split sequences for arbitrary Cohen-Macaulay normal rings having NCCR which are not necessarily isolated singularities. Second, we make it possible to determine simple modules over skew group algebras by relating them to those over certain group algebras.

Abstract:We define a simple graph as compact if it lacks even cycles and satisfies the odd-cycle condition. Our focus is on classifying all compact graphs and examining the characteristics of their edge rings. Let $G$ be a compact graph and $\mathbb{K}[G]$ be its edge ring. Specifically, we demonstrate that the Cohen-Macaulay type and the projective dimension of $\mathbb{K}[G]$ are both equal to the number of induced cycles of $G$ minus one, and that the regularity of $\mathbb{K}[G]$ is equal to the matching number of $G_0$. Here, $G_0$ is obtained from $G$ by removing the vertices of degree one successively, resulting in a graph where every vertex has a degree greater than 1.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the residue rings modulo edge ideals associated with multi-whisker graphs from a local cohomological viewpoint. The main tool that we exploit is a structural result for the local cohomology of these rings which allows us to find formulas for depth and regularity of them. We also show that multi-whisker graphs are vertex-decomposable and sequentially Cohen–Macaulay for which the arithmetical rank and big height of their edge ideals are equal.

Abstract:This paper primary investigates a specific type of deformation of the braid arrangement $\mathcal{B}_n$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$, which is the set $\mathcal{B}_n^A$ of the following hyperplanes: \[ x_i-x_j=a_1,\ldots,a_m, \quad 1\le i<j\le n, \] where $A=\{a_1,\ldots,a_m\}$ consists of distinct real numbers. We denote the exponential generating function by $R_l(A;t):=\sum_{n\ge 0}r_l(\mathcal{B}_n^A)\frac{t^n}{n!}$, where $r_l(\mathcal{B}_n^A)$ represents the number of regions of level $l$ in $\mathcal{B}_n^A$. Using the weighted digraph model introduced by Hetyei, we establish a bijection between the regions of level $l$ in $\mathcal{B}_n^A$ and the valid $m$-acyclic weighted digraphs on the vertex set $[n]$ with exactly $l$ strong components. This result refines Hetyei's bijection from the regions of $\mathcal{B}_n^A$ to the valid $m$-acyclic weighted digraphs on $[n]$. Based on the bijection, we further demonstrate that the sequence $\big(r_l(\mathcal{B}_n^A)\big)_{n\ge 0}$ exhibits a property analogous to that of a polynomial sequence of binomial type, that is, $R_l(A;t)$ satisfies the relation \[ R_l(A;t)=\big(R_1(A;t)\big)^l=R_k(A;t)R_{l-k}(A;t). \] For any non-negative integers $n\ge 2$, $a$ and $b$ with $b-a\ge 2$ and $b-a\ge n-1$, we also show that the characteristic polynomial $\chi_{\mathcal{B}_n^{[-a,b]}}(t)$ has a unique real root at $0$ if $n$ is odd as well as two simple real roots $0$ and $\frac{n(a+b+1)}{2}$ if $n$ is even.
