Abstract:Classical modular forms on the upper half plane, with respect to the modular group SL(2,Z) and its congruence subgroups, have arisen naturally in number theory, complex analysis, topology, mathematical physics, and many other subjects. The closely related automorphic representations are basic notions in the celebrated Langlands program, which was proposed by Langlands in the late 1960s and has since revolutionized the fields of number theory, arithmetic algebraic geometry, and representation theory. This volume consists of expanded lecture notes from a 2007 international conference in Guangzhou, China, at which several leading experts in number theory presented introductions to, and surveys of, many aspects of automorphic forms and the Langlands program. Integral Transforms and Special Functions

Abstract:In this paper, we derive series representations for all non-principal branches of the Lambert W function that hold across the entire complex cut plane, complementing the already known representation for the principal branch. By definition of this function, these formulas allow for the evaluation of all solutions z of the equation zez=a, given a∈C∖(−∞,0]. Additionally, we provide two new representations of the Taylor series for these branches, as well as a combinatorial formula for Bell polynomials.

Abstract:Using elementary means, we prove an identity giving the infinite product form of a sum of Lambert series originally stated by Venkatachaliengar, then rediscovered by Andrews, Lewis, and Liu. Then we derive two identities expressing certain products of sums of Lambert series.

Abstract:Utilizing inverse Mellin transform of the symmetric square $L$-function attached to Ramanujan tau function, Hafner and Stopple proved a conjecture of Zagier, which states that the constant term of the automorphic function $y^{12}|\Delta(z)|^2$ i.e., the Lambert series $y^{12}\sum_{n=1}^\infty \tau(n)^2 e^{-4 \pi n y}$ can be expressed in terms of the non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function. This study examines certain Lambert series associated to Siegel cusp forms of degree $n$ twisted by a character $\chi$ and observes a similar phenomenon.

Abstract:The past decade has witnessed two important new developments in the study of linear series on algebraic varieties. First, vector bundles have emerged as powerful tools for analyzing linear series on curves and surfaces. More recently, the viewpoints and techniques of higher dimensional geometry have started to play a central role. The purpose of these lectures is to provide a down-to-earth introduction to some of these new ideas and methods. The present notes, written with the assistance of G. Fernandez del Busto, are a considerably expanded version of a course given at the 1993 Regional Geometry Institute on Higher Dimensional Complex Geometry at Park City, Utah. While I hope they may be of interest to any geometers wishing to learn about recent work on linear series, I have particularly attempted to aim the discusion at a novice audience. My hope is that with a little faith and effort, these notes should be accessible to anyone having finished the standard introductory texts in algebraic geometry. The underlying theme of the lectures is the search for higher dimensional generalizations of the most basic facts about linear series on curves. But in an attempt to keep things elementary we work more or less exclusively on surfaces. Thus we end up discussing one central result -- viz. Reider's theorem -- from many points of view. Sticking to the case of surfaces allows one to eliminate many technical complexities, and I hope that parts of these lectures might therefore serve as a useful first introduction to the powerful cohomological techniques (involving $Q$-divisors) of contemporary

Abstract:One of the main objectives of the current paper is to revisit the well known Laurent series expansions of the Riemann zeta function $\zeta(s)$, Hurwitz zeta function $\zeta(s,a)$ and Dirichlet $L$-function $L(s,\chi)$ at $s=1$. Moreover, we also present a new Laurent series expansion of $L$-functions associated to cusp forms over the full modular group.

Abstract:This is the second volume of a 2-volume textbook* which evolved from a course (Mathematics 160) offered at the California Institute of Technology du ring the last 25 years. The second volume presupposes a background in number theory com parable to that provided in the first volume, together with a knowledge of the basic concepts of complex analysis. Most of the present volume is devoted to elliptic functions and modular functions with some of their number-theoretic applications. Among the major topics treated are Rademacher's convergent series for the partition function, Lehner's congruences for the Fourier coefficients of the modular functionj( r), and Hecke's theory of entire forms with multiplicative Fourier coefficients. The last chapter gives an account of Bohr's theory of equivalence of general Dirichlet series. Both volumes of this work emphasize classical aspects of a subject wh ich in recent years has undergone a great deal of modern development. It is hoped that these volumes will help the nonspecialist become acquainted with an important and fascinating part of mathematics and, at the same time, will provide some of the background that belongs to the repertory of every specialist in the field. Abstract:In recent years L-functions and their analytic properties have assumed a central role in number theory and automorphic forms. In this expository article, we describe the two major methods for proving the analytic continuation and functional equations of $L$-functions: the method of integral representations, and the method of Fourier expansions of Eisenstein series. Special attention is paid to technical properties, such as boundedness in vertical strips; these are essential in applying the converse theorem, a powerful tool that uses analytic properties of L-functions to establish cases of Langlands functoriality conjectures. We conclude by describing striking recent results which rest upon the analytic properties of L-functions.

On the Use of the Mellin Transform to Generate Families of Power, Hyperpower, Lambert and Dirichlet Type Series and Some Consequences

Abstract:This note is concerned with series of the forms $\sum f(a^n)$ and $\sum f(n^{-a})$ where f(a) possesses a Mellin transform and $a > 1$ or $a<0$ respectively. Integral representations are derived and used to transform these series in several ways yielding a selection of interesting integral evaluations involving Riemann's function $\zeta(s)$, limits and series representations containing hyperpowers. A number of examples of such sums are provided, each of which is investigated for possible new structure. In one case, we obtain a generalization of Riemann's classic relationship among the Zeta, Gamma and Jacobi Theta functions.

Abstract:We show how Rank-Crank type PDEs for higher order Appell functions due to Zwegers may be obtained from a generalized Lambert series identity due to the first author. Special cases are the Rank-Crank PDE due to Atkin and the third author and a PDE for a level 5 Appell function also found by the third author. These two special PDEs are related to generalized Lambert series identities due to Watson, and Jackson respectively. The first author's Lambert series identities are common generalizations. We also show how Atkin and Swinnerton-Dyer's proof using elliptic functions can be extended to prove these generalized Lambert series identities.

Abstract:International Journal of Number Theory, Ahead of Print. Sums of the singular series constants that appear in the Hardy–Littlewood [math]-tuples conjectures have long been studied in connection to the distribution of primes. We study constrained sums of singular series, where the sum is taken over sets whose elements are specified modulo [math] or weighted by smooth functions. We show that the value of the sum is governed by incidences modulo [math] of elements of the set in the case of arithmetic progressions and by pairings of the smooth functions in the case of weights. These sums shed light on sums of singular series in other formats.

Abstract:We introduce a new framework called linear algebraic number theory (LANT) that reformulates the number-theoretic problem as a regression model and solves it using matrix algebra. This framework restricts all computations to log space, therefore replaces multiplication with addition and allows to capture variation in the natural numbers from variation in the prime numbers. This automatically puts prime numbers to their designated place of atomic particles of natural numbers and enables fruitful new formulations of number-theoretic functions. We outline the theory, derive some basic results, make connections to standard number theory and give an outlook regarding the Riemann hypothesis, number theory's long-standing enigma.

We explain the role which these L-genera play in the spectral analysis of Eisenstein series. We also discuss the natural categorification of L-genera and its potential role in enumerative geometry.

Abstract: Dirichlet's $L$-functions are natural extensions of the Riemann zeta function. In this paper we first give a brief survey of Ap\'ery-like series for some special values of the zeta function and certain $L$-functions. Then, we establish two theorems on transformations of certain kinds of congruences. Motivated by the results and based on our computation, we pose 48 new conjectural series (most of which involve harmonic numbers) for such special values and related constants. Real-analytic modular forms for $Γ_0(N)$ and their $L$-series

Abstract:We introduce an $L$-series associated to real-analytic modular forms which transform with weight $(r,s)\in\mathbb{Z}^2$ under $\Gamma_0(N)$. These $L$-series satisfy a functional equation and converse theorem. We also discuss examples of such forms, including real analytic Eisenstein series and modular iterated integrals of higher level. We focus on the $L$-series for a class of forms including Francis Brown's length-one modular iterated integrals $\mathcal{MI}^!_1$.
