Abstract:The integral of a function $f$ defined on a symmetric space $M \simeq G/K$ may be expressed in the form of a determinant (or Pfaffian), when $f$ is $K$-invariant and, in a certain sense, a tensor power of a positive function of a single variable. The paper presents a few examples of this idea and discusses future extensions. Specifically, the examples involve symmetric cones, Grassmann manifolds, and classical domains.

Abstract:The linking integral is an invariant of the link-type of two manifolds immersed in a Euclidean space. It is shown that the ordinary Gauss integral in three dimensions may be simplified to a winding number integral in two dimensions. This result is then generalized to show that in certain circumstances the linking integral between arbitrary manifolds may be similarly reduced to a lower dimensional integral.

Abstract:In this paper we give a simpler proof of the $L^p$-Schwartz space isomorphism $(0< p\leq 2)$ under the Fourier transform for the class of functions of left $\delta$-type on a Riemannian symmetric space of rank one. Our treatment rests on Anker's \cite{A} proof of the corresponding result in the case of left $K$-invariant functions on $X$. Thus we give a proof which relies only on the Paley--Wiener theorem.

Abstract:On a Riemannian manifold of constant curvature, the Calabi operator is a second order linear differential operator that provides local integrability conditions for the range of the Killing operator. We generalise this operator to provide linear second order local integrability conditions on Riemannian locally symmetric spaces, whenever this is possible. Specifically, we show that this generalised operator always works in the irreducible case and we identify precisely those products for which it fails.

Towards a geometric theory of integration

Abstract:Integration is the final key step when turning an infinitesimal argument into a result applicable to quantities of finite size. Conceptually, it is about combining infinitesimal contributions to a finite whole. We make a first step towards a geometric theory of integration in the context of Synthetic Differential Geometry (SDG) by analysing the differential aspect of the integration process. Starting from two heuristic principles that combine the idea of differential forms as infinitesimal measures while formalising the process of taking infinitesimal differences at the same time we derive a general notion of differential form as an equivariant map from infinitesimal $n$-cuboids to the base ring coordinatising a line. Besides the familiar differential forms introduced by Cartan we discover two new types. We also discover a new differential operator besides the exterior derivative. Analogous to the relationship between the exterior derivative and the Stokes-Cartan integral theorem, this new operator is linked to the generalised Fundamental Theorem of Calculus in higher dimensions, as discussed in prior research. This shows that the Fundamental Theorem is an integral theorem like Stokes-Cartan, but for one of the new types of differential forms.

Abstract:We develop a new method to study intersection theory of the main component of the Hilbert scheme of points on complex manifolds. The main result is an iterated residue formula for tautological integrals. We formulate a Chern-Segre-type positivity conjecture for these integrals, and we introduce higher dimensional Segre and Chern integrals.

On the space of $2d$ integrable models

Abstract:We study infinite dimensional Lie algebras, whose infinite dimensional mutually commuting subalgebras correspond with the symmetry algebra of $2d$ integrable models. These Lie algebras are defined by the set of infinitesimal, nonlinear, and higher derivative symmetry transformations present in theories with a left(right)-moving or (anti)-holomorphic current. We study a large class of such Lagrangian theories. We classify the commuting subalgebras of the $2d$ free massless scalar, and find the symmetries of the known integrable models such as sine-Gordon, Liouville, Bullough-Dodd, and Korteweg-de Vries. Along the way, we find several new sequences of commuting charges, which we conjecture are charges of integrable models which are new deformations of a single scalar. After quantizing, the Lie algebra is deformed, and so are their commuting subalgebras.

Limits of limit sets in rank-one symmetric spaces

Abstract:We consider the question of continuity of limit sets for sequences of geometrically finite subgroups of isometry groups of rank-one symmetric spaces, and prove analogues of classical (Kleinian) theorems in this context. In particular we show that, assuming strong convergence of the sequence of subgroups, the limit sets vary continuously with respect to Hausdorff distance, and if the sequence is weakly type-preserving, the sequence of Cannon-Thurston maps also converges uniformly to a limiting Cannon-Thurston map. Our approach uses the theory of extended geometrically finite representations, developed recently by the second author.

Abstract: According to Sakellaridis, many zeta integrals in the theory of automorphic forms can be produced or explained by appropriate choices of a Schwartz space of test functions on a spherical homogeneous space, which are in turn dictated by the geometry of affine spherical embeddings. We pursue this perspective by developing a local counterpart and try to explicate the functional equations. These constructions are also related to the $L^2$-spectral decomposition of spherical homogeneous spaces in view of the Gelfand-Kostyuchenko method. To justify this viewpoint, we prove the convergence of $p$-adic local zeta integrals under certain premises, work out the case of prehomogeneous vector spaces and re-derive a large portion of Godement-Jacquet theory. Furthermore, we explain the doubling method and show that it fits into the paradigm of $L$-monoids developed by L. Lafforgue, B. C. Ngo et al., by reviewing the constructions of Braverman and Kazhdan (2002). In the global setting, we give certain speculations about global zeta integrals, Poisson formulas and their relation to period integrals.
On trilinear singular Brascamp-Lieb integrals

Abstract:We classify all trilinear singular Brascamp-Lieb forms, completing the classification in the two dimensional case by Demeter and Thiele in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0803.1268" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0803.1268">arXiv:0803.1268</a>. We use known results in the representation theory of finite dimensional algebras, namely the classification of indecomposable representations of the four subspace quiver. Our classification lays out a roadmap for achieving bounds for all degenerate higher dimensional bilinear Hilbert transforms. As another step towards this goal, we prove new bounds for a particular class of forms that arises as a natural next candidate from our classification. We further prove conditional bounds for forms associated with mutually related representations. For this purpose we develop a method of rotations that allows us to decompose any homogeneous $d$-dimensional singular integral kernel into $(d-1)$-dimensional kernels on hyperplanes.

Abstract:A tautological system, introduced in [17, 18], arises as a regular holonomic system of partial differential equations that govern the period integrals of a family of complete intersections in a complex manifold X, equipped with a suitable Lie group action. In this article, we introduce two formulas-one purely algebraic, the other geometric-to compute the rank of the solution sheaf of such a system for CY hypersurfaces in a generalized flag variety. The algebraic version gives the local solution space as a Lie algebra homology group, while the geometric one as the middle de Rham cohomology of the complement of a hyperplane section in X. We use both formulas to find certain degenerate points for which the rank of the solution sheaf becomes 1. These rank 1 points appear to be good candidates for the so-called large complex structure limits in mirror symmetry. The formulas are also used to prove a conjecture of Hosono, Lian, and Yau, on the completeness of the extended GKZ system when X is P-n [12].

Abstract:The Gauss-Bonnet Formula is a significant achievement in 19th century differential geometry for the case of surfaces and the 20th century cumulative work of H. Hopf, W. Fenchel, C. B. Allendoerfer, A. Weil and S.S. Chern for higher-dimensional Riemannian manifolds. It relates the Euler characteristic of a Riemannian manifold to a curvature integral over the manifold plus a somewhat enigmatic boundary term. In this paper, we revisit the formula using the formalism of double forms, a tool introduced by de Rham, and further developed by Kulkarni, Thorpe, and Gray. We explore the geometric nature of the boundary term and provide some examples and applications.
Towards 2-dimensional non-commutative integrals

Abstract:We collect evidence that the notion of path-ordered non-abelian integration admits an extension to two dimensions. We propose the corresponding notion of non-abelian 2-form along the lines of Lie algebroid theory and argue it is an appropriate one. The processes of parallel transport and integration turn out to be subtly different in the 2-dimensional case; we discuss parallel transport along surfaces and present an indirect definition of a non-abelian integral. This integral includes, for specific choices of 2-forms, both abelian integrals and the continuous limit of Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula as special cases; it interpolates between those cases and broadly generalizes them, allowing, for example, an analog of path-exponential with local, point-depending commutators to be spoken about. We comment on all these objects, their relations, gauge symmetries and geometrical meaning, and roughly sketch a plausible order-by-order procedure for obtaining formulas for non-abelian integrals. The exposition is reasonably concrete, relying on no notions more abstract than sections of vector bundles and homotopies.

Abstract:We consider rigidity properties of compact symmetric spaces $X$ with metric $g_0$ of rank one. Suppose $g$ is another Riemannian metric on $X$ with sectional curvature $\kappa$ bounded by $0 \leq \kappa \leq 1$. If $g$ equals $g_0$ outside a convex proper subset of $X$, then $g$ is isometric with $g_0$. We also exhibit examples of surfaces showing that the nonnegativity of the curvature is needed. Our main result complements earlier results on other symmetric spaces by Gromov and Schroeder-Ziller.
