Abstract:This paper proves a novel analytical inversion formula for the so-called modulo Radon transform (MRT), which models a recently proposed approach to one-shot high dynamic range tomography. It is based on the solution of a Poisson problem linking the Laplacian of the Radon transform (RT) of a function to its MRT in combination with the classical filtered back projection formula for inverting the RT. Discretizing the inversion formula using Fourier techniques leads to our novel Laplacian Modulo Unfolding - Filtered Back Projection algorithm, in short LMU-FBP, to recover a function from fully discrete MRT data. Our theoretical findings are finally supported by numerical experiments.

Abstract:Inversion of Radon transforms is the mathematical foundation of many modern tomographic imaging modalities. In this paper, we study a conical Radon transform, which is important for computed tomography taking Compton scattering into account. This transform integrates a function in over all conical surfaces having vertices on a hyperplane and symmetry axis orthogonal to this plane. As the main result, we derive exact reconstruction formulas of the filtered back-projection type for inverting this transform. Further, a Fourier slice identity is established.

Abstract:Let D(Ω,Φ) be the unbounded realization of the classical domain [Formula: see text] of type one. In general, its Šilov boundary [Formula: see text] is a nilpotent Lie group of step two. In this article we define the Radon transform on [Formula: see text], and obtain an inversion formula [Formula: see text] in terms of a determinantal differential operator. Moreover, we characterize a subspace of [Formula: see text] on which the Radon transform is a bijection. By use of the suitable continuous wavelet transform we establish a new inversion formula of the Radon transform in weak sense without the assumption of differentiability.

Abstract:We consider the inverse problem of the broken ray transform (sometimes also referred to as the V-line transform). Explicit image reconstruction formulas are derived and tested numerically. The obtained formulas are generalizations of the filtered backprojection formula of the conventional Radon transform. The advantages of the broken ray transform include the possibility to reconstruct the absorption and the scattering coefficients of the medium simultaneously and the possibility to utilize scattered radiation which, in the case of the conventional X-ray tomography, is typically discarded.

Revisit to the Inverse Exponential Radon Transform

Abstract:This revisit gives a survey on the analytical methods for the inverse exponential Radon transform which has been investigated in the past three decades from both mathematical interests and medical applications such as nuclear medicine emission imaging. The derivation of the classical inversion formula is through the recent argument developed for the inverse attenuated Radon transform. That derivation allows the exponential parameter to be a complex constant, which is useful to other applications such as magnetic resonance imaging and tensor field imaging. The survey also includes the new technique of using the finite Hilbert transform to handle the exact reconstruction from 180 degree data. Special treatment has been paid on two practically important subjects. One is the exact reconstruction from partial measurements such as half-scan and truncated-scan data, and the other is the reconstruction from diverging-beam data. The noise propagation in the reconstruction is touched upon with more heuristic discussions than mathematical inference. The numerical realizations of several classical reconstruction algorithms are included. In the conclusion, several topics are discussed for more investigations in the future.

Abstract:We provide a new algorithm for the treatment of the noisy inversion of the Radon transform using an appropriate thresholding technique adapted to a well-chosen new localized basis. We establish minimax results and prove their optimality. In particular, we prove that the procedures provided here are able to attain minimax bounds for any $\mathbb {L}_p$ loss. It s important to notice that most of the minimax bounds obtained here are new to our knowledge. It is also important to emphasize the adaptation properties of our procedures with respect to the regularity (sparsity) of the object to recover and to inhomogeneous smoothness. We perform a numerical study that is of importance since we especially have to discuss the cubature problems and propose an averaging procedure that is mostly in the spirit of the cycle spinning performed for periodic signals.

Abstract:The monogenic Hua-Radon transform is defined as an orthogonal projection on holomorphic functions in the Lie sphere. Extending the work of Sabadini and Sommen, J. Geom. Anal. 29 (2019), 2709-2737, we determine its reproducing kernel. Integrating this kernel over the Stiefel manifold yields a linear combination of the zonal spherical monogenics. Using the reproducing properties of those monogenics we obtain an inversion for the monogenic Hua-Radon transform.

Abstract:The Hua-Radon and polarized Hua-Radon transform are two orthogonal projections defined on holomorphic functions in the Lie sphere. Both transformations can be written as integral transforms with respect to a suitable reproducing kernel. Integrating both kernels over a Stiefel manifold yields a linear combination of zonal spherical monogenics. Using an Almansi type decomposition of holomorphic functions and reproducing properties of the zonal monogenics, we obtain an inversion formula for both the Hua-Radon and the polarized Hua-Radon transform.

Abstract:Abstract Ray transforms for vector or tensor fields have been studied for a long time, also in connection with Doppler or polarization tomography. In contrast to the classical Radon transform or X-ray transform their known inversion formulae are rather complicated, and represented, for example, using series expansions or singular value decompositions. Recently, applications of the approximate inverse have been studied. In this paper we present a new class of inversion formulae for compactly supported fields similar to those of the X-ray transform. The derivation is based on two observations. First, we apply Derevtsov’s formula relating the ray transforms of vector or tensor fields to a derivative of the X-ray transform of a generating potential, [3]. Second, we apply the calculation of derivatives of a scalar function from its X-ray transform, as it is realized in feature reconstruction, [15, 16]. Generalizations complete the presentation.

PSWF-Radon approach to reconstruction from band-limited Hankel transform

Abstract:We give new formulas for reconstructions from band-limited Hankel transform of integer or half-integer order. Our formulas rely on the PSWF-Radon approach to super-resolution in multidimensional Fourier analysis. This approach consists of combining the theory of classical one-dimensional prolate spheroidal wave functions with the Radon transform theory. We also use the relation between Fourier and Hankel transforms and Cormack-type inversion of the Radon transform. Finally, we investigate numerically the capabilities of our approach to super-resolution for band-limited Hankel inversion in relation to varying levels of noise.

Abstract:We study the influence of analytical regularization used in the generalized function (distribution) space to the Tikhonov regularization procedure utilized in the different versions of Moore-Penrose's inversion. By introducing a new analytical term to the Tikhonov regularization of Moore-Penrose's inversion procedure, we derive new optimization conditions that extend the Tikhonov regularization framework and influence the fitting parameter. This enhancement yields a more robust and accurate reconstruction of physical quantities, demonstrating its potential impact on various studies. We illustrate the significance of new term through schematic examples of physical applications, highlighting its relevance to diverse fields. Our findings provide a valuable tool for improving inversion methods and their applications in physics and beyond.

Abstract:Using the technique of integration within an ordered product of operators, we reveal that a new quantum mechanical representation /x, mu, v > exists, the eigenvector of operator muQ + vP (linear combination of coordinate Q and momentum P) with, eigenvalue x, which is inherent to the two-parameter (mu, v) Radon transformation of the Wigner operator. It turns out that the projection operator /x, mu, v > <x, mu, v/ is just the Radon transformation of the Wigner operator. The inverse of operator Radon transformation is also derived which indicates tomography in operator version.

Abstract:The generalization of tomographic maps to hyperplanes is considered.We find that the Radon transform of the Wigner operator in multi-dimensional phase space leads to a normally ordered operator in binomial distribution—a mixed-state density operator.Reconstruction of the Wigner operator is also feasible.The normally ordered form and the Weyl ordered form of the Wigner operator are used in our derivation.The operator quantum tomography theory is expressed in terms of some operator identities,with the merit of revealing the essence of the theory in a simple and concise way.
Radon-type transforms for holomorphic and Hermitian monogenic functions

Abstract:The standard Radon transform of holomorphic functions is not always well defined, as the integration of such functions over planes may not converge. In this paper, we introduce new Radon-type transforms of co-(real)dimension $2$ for harmonic and holomorphic functions on the unit ball. These transforms are abstractly defined as orthogonal projections onto spaces of complex harmonic and holomorphic plane waves, respectively. The inversion formulas are derived based on the dual transform, while the latter is defined as an integration on a complex Stiefel manifold. Our transforms are extended to the Fock space and give rise to a new transform defined on the entire $L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ through the Segal-Bargmann transform. Furthermore, we develop these transforms for Hermitian monogenic functions on the unit ball, thereby refining the Szegö-Radon transform for monogenic functions introduced by Colombo, Sabadini and Sommen.

Local support theorem for the exponential Radon transform

Abstract:We prove a local support theorem for the exponential Radon transform for functions of exponential decay at infinity. We also show that our decay condition is essentially sharp for the classical Radon transform for hyperbolic type domains as holes, by showing streched exponential counterexamples. This shows a difference of the support theorems for compact domains, where the decay has to be just faster than any polynomial. Also, gives a refinement for non-compact domains, where support theorem was proved only for functions with compact support. Our method is a version of R. S. Strichartz and J. Boman.

Abstract:Recovering a function from its integrals over circular cones recently gained significance because of its relevance to novel medical imaging technologies such emission tomography using Compton cameras. In this paper we investigate the case where the vertices of the cones of integration are restricted to a sphere in $n$-dimensional space and symmetry axes are orthogonal to the sphere. We show invertibility of the considered transform and develop an inversion method based on series expansion and reduction to a system of one-dimensional integral equations of generalized Abel type. Because the arising kernels do not satisfy standard assumptions, we also develop a uniqueness result for generalized Abel equations where the kernel has zeros on the diagonal. Finally, we demonstrate how to numerically implement our inversion method and present numerical results.
