Abstract:A Rademacher-type convergent series formula which generalizes the Hardy-Ramanujan-Rademacher formula for the number of partitions of $n$ and the Zuckerman formula for the Fourier coefficients of $\vartheta_4(0\vert \tau)^{-1}$ is presented.

In this paper, we focus on the combinatorics of Schmidt type partition theorems and characterize them in a general and refined form. In addition, we also present some overpartition analogues of Schmidt type partition theorems.

Abstract:In 2009, Bringmann <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0708.0691" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0708.0691">arXiv:0708.0691</a> [math.NT] used the circle method to prove an asymptotic formula for the Fourier coefficients of rank generating functions. In this paper, we prove that Bringmann's formula, when summing up to infinity and in the case of prime modulus, gives a Rademacher-type exact formula involving sums of vector-valued Kloosterman sums. As a corollary, in an upcoming paper, we will provide a new proof of Dyson's conjectures by showing that the certain Kloosterman sums vanish.

Abstract:Andrews-Dyson-Hickerson, Cohen build a striking relation between q-hypergeometric series, real quadratic fields, and Maass forms. Thanks to the works of Lewis-Zagier and Zwegers we have a complete understanding on the part of these relations pertaining to Maass forms and false-indefinite theta functions. In particular, we can systematically distinguish and study the class of false-indefinite theta functions related to Maass forms. A crucial component here is the framework of mock Maass theta functions built by Zwegers in analogy with his earlier work on indefinite theta functions and their application to Ramanujan's mock theta functions. Given this understanding, a natural question is to what extent one can utilize modular properties to investigate the asymptotic behavior of the associated Fourier coefficients, especially in view of their relevance to combinatorial objects. In this paper, we develop the relevant methods to study such a question and show that quite detailed results can be obtained on the asymptotic development, which also enable Hardy-Ramanujan-Rademacher type exact formulas under the right conditions. We develop these techniques by concentrating on a concrete example involving partitions with parts separated by parity and derive an asymptotic expansion that includes all the exponentially growing terms.

An analogue of the Rademacher function for generalized Dedekind sums in higher dimension

Abstract:We consider generalized Dedekind sums in dimension $n$, for fixed $n$-tuple of natural numbers, defined as sum of products of values of periodic Bernoulli functions. This includes the higher dimensional Dedekind sums of Zagier and Apostol-Carlitz' generalized Dedekind sums as well as the original Dedekind sums. These are realized as coefficients of Todd series of lattice cones and satisfy reciprocity law from the cocycle property of Todd series. Using iterated residue formula, we compute the coefficient of the decomposition of of the Todd series corresponding to a nonsingular decomposition of the lattice cone defining the Dedekind sums. We associate a Laurent polynomial which is added to generalized Dedekind sums of fixed index to make their denominators bounded. We give explicitly the denominator in terms of Bernoulli numbers. This generalizes the role played by the rational function given by the difference of the Rademacher function and the classical Dedekind sums. We associate an exponential sum to the generalized Dedekind sums using the integrality of the generalized Rademacher function. We show that this exponential sum has a nontrivial bound that is sufficient to fulfill Weyl's equidistribution criterion and thus the fractional part of the generalized Dedekind sums are equidistributed. As an example, for a 3 dimensional case and Zagier's higher dimensional generalization of Dedekind sums, we compute the Laurent polynomials associated.

Fourier-Dedekind Sums and an Extension of Rademacher Reciprocity

Abstract:Fourier-Dedekind sums are a generalization of Dedekind sums - important number-theoretical objects that arise in many areas of mathematics, including lattice point enumeration, signature defects of manifolds and pseudo random number generators. A remarkable feature of Fourier-Dedekind sums is that they satisfy a reciprocity law called Rademacher reciprocity. In this paper, we study several aspects of Fourier-Dedekind sums: properties of general Fourier-Dedekind sums, extensions of the reciprocity law, average behavior of Fourier-Dedekind sums, and finally, extrema of 2-dimensional Fourier-Dedekind sums. On properties of general Fourier-Dedekind sums we show that a general Fourier-Dedekind sum is simultaneously a convolution of simpler Fourier-Dedekind sums, and a linear combination of these with integer coefficients. We show that Fourier-Dedekind sums can be extended naturally to a group under convolution. We introduce "Reduced Fourier-Dedekind sums", which encapsulate the complexity of a Fourier-Dedekind sum, describe these in terms of generating functions, and give a geometric interpretation. Next, by finding interrelations among Fourier-Dedekind sums, we extend the range on which Rademacher reciprocity Theorem holds. We go on to study the average behavior of Fourier-Dedekind sums, showing that the average behavior of a Fourier-Dedekind sum is described concisely by a lower-dimensional, simpler Fourier-Dedekind sum. Finally, we focus our study on 2-dimensional Fourier-Dedekind sums. We find tight upper and lower bounds on these for a fixed $t$, estimates on the argmax and argmin, and bounds on the sum of their "reciprocals".

Abstract:Since their introduction by Andrews, generalized Frobenius partitions have interested a number of authors, many of whom have worked out explicit formulas for their generating functions in specific cases. This has uncovered interesting combinatorial structure and led to proofs of a number of congruences. In this paper, we show how Andrews' generating functions can be cast in the framework of Eichler and Zagier's Jacobi forms. This reformulation allows us to compute explicit formulas for the generalized Frobenius partition generating functions (and in fact provides formulas for further functions of potential combinatorial interest), and it leads to a recursion formula to calculate them in terms of infinite $q$-products.

Abstract:For a fixed $z\in\mathbb{C}$ and a fixed $k\in\mathbb{N}$, let $\sigma_{z}^{(k)}(n)$ denote the sum of $z$-th powers of those divisors $d$ of $n$ whose $k$-th powers also divide $n$. This arithmetic function is a simultaneous generalization of the well-known divisor function $\sigma_z(n)$ as well as the divisor function $d^{(k)}(n)$ first studied by Wigert. The Dirichlet series of $\sigma_{z}^{(k)}(n)$ does not fall under the purview of Chandrasekharan and Narasimhan's fundamental work on Hecke's functional equation with multiple gamma factors. Nevertheless, as we show here, an explicit and elegant Vorono\"{\dotlessi} summation formula exists for this function. As its corollaries, some transformations of Wigert are generalized. The kernel $H_{z}^{(k)}(x)$ of the associated integral transform is a new generalization of the Bessel kernel. Several properties of this kernel such as its differential equation, asymptotic behavior and its special values are derived. A crucial relation between $H_{z}^{(k)}(x)$ and an associated integral $K_{z}^{(k)}(x)$ is obtained, the proof of which is deep, and employs the uniqueness theorem of linear differential equations and the properties of Stirling numbers of the second kind and elementary symmetric polynomials.

Abstract:A special case of an Entry in Part II of Ramanujan's Notebooks is such that 1+15(12)2+19(1⋅32⋅4)2+⋯=Γ4(14)16π2. This formula leads us to consider the higher-order version of the above series given by replacing the squares of normalized central binomial coefficients with fourth powers. Using a Fourier–Legendre expansion introduced in a 2022 article by Cantarini, together with a multiple elliptic integral evaluation conjectured by Wan and proved by Zhou, we prove the very natural extension shown below of Ramanujan's formula: 1+15(12)4+19(1⋅32⋅4)4+⋯=Γ8(14)96π5. Furthermore, and in a closely related way, we show how a main result in an article by Papanikolas et al. concerning a Calabi–Yau threefold is equivalent to the evaluation of a Clebsch–Gordan-type multiple elliptic integral related to the work of Zhou and Brychkov.

Abstract:Recently, Debruyne and Tenenbaum proved asymptotic formulas for the number of partitions with parts in ( ) and good analytic properties of the corresponding zeta function, generalizing work of Meinardus. In this paper, we extend their work to prove asymptotic formulas if is a multiset of integers and the zeta function has multiple poles. In particular, our results imply an asymptotic formula for the number of irreducible representations of degree n of . We also study the Witten zeta function , which is of independent interest.

Abstract:The study of partitions with parts separated by parity was initiated by Andrews in connection with Ramanujan's mock theta functions, and his variations on this theme have produced generating functions with a large variety of different modular properties. In this paper, we use Ingham's Tauberian theorem to compute the asymptotic main term for each of the eight functions studied by Andrews.

Abstract:The Hardy-Ramanujan partition function asymptotics is a famous result in the asymptotics of combinatorial sequences. It was originally derived using complex analysis and number-theoretic ideas by Hardy and Ramanujan. It was later re-derived by Paul Erdős using real analytic methods. Later still, D.J.~Newman used just the usual Hayman saddle-point approach, ubiquitous in asymptotic analysis. Fristedt introduced a probabilistic approach, which was further extended by Dan Romik, for restricted partition functions. Our perspective is that the Laplace transform changes the essentially algebraic generating function into an exponential form. Using this, we carry out the exercise of deriving the leading order asymptotics, following the Fristedt-Romik approach. We also give additional examples of the Laplace transform method.

Abstract:We study the correlators of irregular vertex operators in two-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT) in order to propose an exact analytic formula for calculating numbers of partitions, that is: 1) for given $N,k$, finding the total number $\lambda(N|k)$ of length $k$ partitions of $N$: $N=n_1+...+n_k;0<n_1\leq{n_2}...\leq{n_k}$. 2) finding the total number $\lambda(N)=\sum_{k=1}^N\lambda(N|k)$ of partitions of a natural number $N$ We propose an exact analytic expression for $\lambda(N|k)$ by relating two-point short-distance correlation functions of irregular vertex operators in $c=1$ conformal field theory ( the form of the operators is established in this paper): with the first correlator counting the partitions in the upper half-plane and the second one obtained from the first correlator by conformal transformations of the form $f(z)=h(z)e^{-{i\over{z}}}$ where $h(z)$ is regular and non-vanishing at $z=0$. The final formula for $\lambda(N|k)$ is given in terms of regularized ($\epsilon$-ordered) finite series in the generalized higher-derivative Schwarzians and incomplete Bell polynomials of the above conformal transformation at $z=i\epsilon$ ($\epsilon\rightarrow{0}$)

Factorization Theorems for Relatively Prime Divisor Sums, GCD Sums and Generalized Ramanujan Sums

Abstract:We generalize recent matrix-based factorization theorems for Lambert series generating functions generating the coefficients $(f \ast 1)(n)$ for some arithmetic function $f$. Our new factorization theorems provide analogs to these established expansions generating sums of the form $\sum_{d: (d,n)=1} f(d)$ (type I) and the Anderson-Apostol sums $\sum_{d|(m,n)} f(d) g(n/d)$ (type II) for any arithmetic functions $f$ and $g$. Our treatment of the type II sums includes a matrix-based factorization method relating the partition function $p(n)$ to arbitrary arithmetic functions $f$. We also conclude the last section of the article by directly expanding new formulas for an arithmetic function $g$ by the type II sums using discrete Fourier transforms for functions over inputs of greatest common divisors and by suitably defined orthogonal polynomial sequences whose weight function we can define by a discrete time Fourier transform (DTFT) involving the partition function $p(n)$. There are numerous applications and special cases of our new results which we are able to cite as examples in the article. Particular cases of the applications we give in the article include new identities for Euler's totient function, the Ramanujan sums $c_q(n)$, the generalized sum-of-divisors functions, the Mertens function which is the summatory function of the Möbius function, and the cyclotomic polynomials.

A note on odd partition numbers

Abstract:Ramanujan's celebrated partition congruences modulo $\ell\in \{5, 7, 11\}$ assert that $$ p(\ell n+\delta_{\ell})\equiv 0\pmod{\ell}, $$ where $0<\delta_{\ell}<\ell$ satisfies $24\delta_{\ell}\equiv 1\pmod{\ell}.$ By proving Subbarao's Conjecture, Radu showed that there are no such congruences when it comes to parity. There are infinitely many odd (resp. even) partition numbers in every arithmetic progression. For primes $\ell \geq 5,$ we give a new proof of the conclusion that there are infinitely many $m$ for which $p(\ell m+\delta_{\ell})$ is odd. This proof uses a generalization, due to the second author and Ramsey, of a result of Mazur in his classic paper on the Eisenstein ideal. We also refine a classical criterion of Sturm for modular form congruences, which allows us to show that the smallest such $m$ satisfies $m<(\ell^2-1)/24,$ representing a significant improvement to the previous bound.

Abstract:This paper gives an exposition of well known results on vector partition functions. The exposition is based on works of M. Brion, A. Szenes and M. Vergne and is geared toward explicit computer realizations. In particular, the paper presents two algorithms for computing the vector partition function with respect to a finite set of vectors $I$ as a quasipolynomial over a finite set of pointed polyhedral cones. We use the developed techniques to relate a result of P. Tumarkin and A. Felikson (and present an independent proof in the particular case of finite-dimensional root systems) to give bounds for the periods of the Kostant partition functions of $E_6$, $E_7$, $E_8$, $F_4$, $G_2$ (the periods are divisors of respectively 6, 12, 60, 12, 6). The first of the described algorithms has been realized and is publicly available under the Library General Public License v3.0 at {<a class="link-external link-http" href="http://vectorpartition.sourceforge.net/" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>}. We include (non-unique) partial fraction decompositions for the generating functions of the Kostant partition function for $A_2$, $A_3$, $A_4$, $B_2$, $B_3$, $C_2$, $C_3$, $G_2$ in the appendix.

Abstract:We develop a new closed-form arithmetic and recursive formula for the partition function and a generalization of Andrews' smallest parts (spt) function. Using the inclusion-exclusion principle, we additionally develop a formula for the not-relatively prime partition function (which counts the number of partitions that are not relatively prime). Moreover, we prove a theorem involving the greatest common divisor of partitions, which allows us to link partitions to prime numbers and lets us derive a formula for the relatively prime function. Lastly, we develop numerous new identities for Jordan's totient function of second order, Euler's totient function, and Dedekind's psi function.
