Abstract:The goal of this paper is to calculate the trace of the composition of a Hecke correspondence and a (high enough) power of the Frobenius at a good place on the intersection cohomology of the Satake-Baily-Borel compactification of certain Shimura varieties, to stabilize the result for Shimura varieties associated to unitary groups over $\mathbb{Q}$ and to give applications of this calculations using base change from these unitary groups to $GL_n$. ----- Le but de ce texte est de calculer la trace d'une correspondance de Hecke composee avec une puissance (assez grande) du Frobenius en une bonne place sur la cohomologie d'intersection de la compactification de Satake-Baily-Borel de certaines varietes de Shimura, de stabiliser le resultat obtenu pour les varietes de Shimura associees aux groupes unitaires sur $\mathbb{Q}$, et de donner des applications de ces calculs en utilisant le changement de base de ces groupes unitaires a $GL_n$.

Abstract:A classical theorem of Minkowski and Hlawka states that there exists a lattice in R^n with packing density at least 2^{1-n}. Buser and Sarnak proved the analogue of this result in the context of complex abelian varieties. Here we give an improvement of this analogue; this shows a conjecture of Muetzel.

Abstract:In his paper on the Mordell-Lang conjecture, Hrushovski employed techniques from model theory to prove the function field version of the conjecture. In doing so he was able to answer a related question of Voloch, which we refer to henceforth as Hrushovski's theorem. In this paper we shall give an alternative proof of said theorem in the characteristic $p$ setting, but using purely algebro-geometric ideas.

Abstract:In this work, we calculate the trace of a power of the Frobenius endomorphism on the fibers of the intersection complex of the Baily-Borel compactification of a Shimura variety associated to a unitary group over Q. Our main tool is Pink's theorem about the restriction to the strata of the Baily-Borel compactification of the direct image of a local system on the Shimura variety. To use this theorem, we give a new construction of the intermediate extension of a pure perverse sheaf as a weight truncated of the full direct image. More generally, we are able to define analogs in positive characteristic of the weighted cohomology complexes introduced by Goresky, Harder and MacPherson. ----- Dans ce travail, nous calculons la trace d'une puissance de l'endomorphisme de Frobenius sur les fibres du complexe d'intersection de la compactification de Baily-Borel d'une variete de Shimura associee a un groupe unitaire sur Q. Notre outil principal est le theoreme de Pink sur la restriction aux strates de la compactification de Baily-Borel de l'image directe d'un systeme de coefficients sur la variete de Shimura. Pour pouvoir utiliser ce theoreme, nous donnons une nouvelle construction du prolongement intermediaire d'un faisceau pervers pur comme un tronque par le poids de l'image directe ordinaire. Plus generalement, nous definissons des analogues en caracteristique strictement positive des complexes ponderes introduits par Goresky, Harder et MacPherson.

Abstract:We prove that the mutual energy (or the intersection product in the sense of Arakelov theory) of two dynamical systems associated to Lattès morphisms over $\mathbf{\bar Q}$ is uniformly bounded below and deduce a proof of a conjecture of Bogomolov-Fu-Tschinkel: the number of common images of torsion points of two non-isomorphic elliptic curves over $\mathbf{C}$ by a standard morphism to the projective line is uniformly bounded. The proof crucially relies on the theory of Berkovich spaces over $\mathbf{Z}$ and on an original argument allowing to obtain a global estimate from a central estimate (over a trivially valued field).

Abstract:We extend the Brauer-Siegel theorem to new families of number fields, both in the classical setting of asymptotically bad families and in the more general framework due to Tsfasman and Vlăduţ of asymptotically exact families. We introduce a notion of Galois complexity for extensions of number fields, and show that the generalized Brauer-Siegel theorem, as conjectured by Tsfasman and Vlăduţ, holds for families in which the complexity does not grow too fast. This allows to unify and extend all previously known results. The crucial step in our work is the proof of a new version -- stated in terms of our Galois complexity -- of a fundamental principle due to Stark descending exceptional zeroes of zeta functions down to quadratic number fields. Among the hitherto unknown cases we are able to treat are the families of number fields contained in the solvable Galois closure of a given number field.

Abstract:In this short note, we give a new proof of a recent result of Tong Liu on torsions in the graded pieces of a Nygaard filtration associated to a crystalline lattice. Our approach is inspired on the one hand by a result of Gee--Kisin on the shape of mod $p$ crystalline Breuil--Kisin modules, and on the other hand by a connection between the Deligne--Illusie theorem and the Sen operator on the diffracted Hodge complex, as observed by Drinfeld and Bhatt--Lurie.

Abstract:In the present paper, we revisit a famous theorem by Candel that we generalize by proving that given a compact lamination by hyperbolic surfaces, every negative function smooth inside the leaves and transversally continuous is the curvature function of a unique laminated metric in the corresponding conformal class. We give an interpretation of this result as a continuity result about the solutions of some elliptic PDEs in the so called Cheeger-Gromov topology on the space of complete pointed riemannian manifolds.

Abstract:Dans cette these on s'attache a etudier les crochets de Rankin-Cohen et les deformations correspondantes selon de differents points de vue. On presente d'un cote une nouvelle interpretation des deformations de Rankin-Cohen via la theorie de Quantification par Deformations de Fedosov(en collaboration avec P. Bieliavsky et X. Tang). On parvient notamment a redemontrer un theoreme de Connes-Moscovici sur la deformation formelle des algebres sous l'action d'une algebre de Hopf H1 munie d'une structure projective. De l'autre cote on donne dans Chapitre III une interpretation detaillee des crochets de Rankin-Cohen via la theorie de representations unitaires de SL2(R) et en utilisant cette interpretation on etudie certaines proprietes des produits deformes, notamment l'unicite des produits construits par Cohen-Manin-Zagier et une propriete de separation du produit d'Eholzer. Dans le dernier chapitre on donne une demonstration elementaire de l'identite combinatoire qui est cruciale pour demontrer l'associativite dans l'approche de la question de deformations par Cohen-Manin-Zagier, Eholzer, et Connes-Moscovici.

Abstract:Pour $K$ un corps global (corps de nombres ou corps de fonctions d'une variable sur un corps fini $F$), on dispose de théorèmes de dualité classiques (Tate, Poitou, Nakayama) pour la cohomologie galoisienne à valeurs dans des tores et des modules abéliens finis. Nous établissons de tels théorèmes pour $K$ le corps des fonctions d'une courbe projective et lisse sur le corps $F={\bf C}((t))$ des séries formelles en une variable sur le corps des complexes. Cela permet de contrôler le défaut du principe de Hasse et l'approximation faible pour les espaces homogènes sous un tore. Il y a ici des différences avec le cas classique ($K$ corps global), et aussi avec le cas récemment étudié où $K$ est un corps de fonctions d'une variable sur un corps $p$-adique. Par exemple, la $K$-rationalité d'un tore n'implique pas ici la validité du principe de Hasse pour ses espaces principaux homogènes. ---------------- Over a global field $K$ (number field, or function field of a curve over a finite field $F$), arithmetic duality theorems for the Galois cohomology of tori and finite Galois modules have long been known. More recent work investigates the case where $K$ is the function fields of of a curve over a $p$-adic field. For $K$ the function field of a curve over the formal series field $F={\bf C}((t))$, we establish analogous duality theorems. We thus control the obstruction to the local-global principle and to weak approximation for homogeneous spaces of tori. There are differences with the afore described cases. For example the Hasse principle need not hold for principal homogeneous spaces of a $K$-rational torus.

Abstract:In this article, we establish the Grothendieck-Serre conjecture over valuation rings: for a reductive group scheme $G$ over a valuation ring $V$ with fraction field $K$, a $G$-torsor over $V$ is trivial if it is trivial over $K$. This result is predicted by the original Grothendieck-Serre conjecture and the resolution of singularities. The novelty of our proof lies in overcoming subtleties brought by general nondiscrete valuation rings. By using flasque resolutions and inducting with local cohomology, we prove a non-Noetherian counterpart of Colliot-Thélène-Sansuc's case of tori. Then, taking advantage of techniques in algebraization, we obtain the passage to the Henselian rank one case. Finally, we induct on Levi subgroups and use the integrality of rational points of anisotropic groups to reduce to the semisimple anisotropic case, in which we appeal to properties of parahoric subgroups in Bruhat-Tits theory to conclude. In the last section, by using properties of reflexive sheaves, we also prove a variant of Nisnevich's purity conjecture.

Abstract:Résumé Dans cet article, nous étudions la cohomologie de de Rham du premier revêtement de la tour de Drinfel'd. En particulier, nous obtenons une preuve purement locale du fait que la partie supercuspidale réalise la correspondance de Jacquet-Langlands locale pour en la comparant à la cohomologie rigide de certaines variétés de Deligne-Lusztig. Les représentations obtenues sont analogues à celles qui apparaissent dans la cohomologie -adique lorsqu'on oublie l'action du groupe de Weil. La preuve repose sur une généralisation d'un résultat d'excision de Grosse-Klönne et de la description explicite du premier revêtement en tant que revêtement cyclique obtenu par l'auteur dans un travail précédent.

Abstract:This is the first part of a series of papers where the behaviour of the invariants under twist by Dirichlet characters is studied for $L$-functions of degree 2. Here we show, under suitable conditions, that degree and internal shift remain unchanged under twist. The ultimate goal of the series is to prove a general version of Weil converse theorem with minimal assumptions on the shape of the functional equation of the twists.
