Abstract:We prove a uniform estimate of the number of points for difference algebraic varieties in finite difference fields in the spirit of Lang-Weil. More precisely, we give uniform lower and upper bounds for the number of rational points of a difference variety in terms of its transformal dimension. As a main technical ingredient, we prove an equidimensionality result for Frobenius reductions of difference varieties.

Abstract:We present a new method, using asymptotic analysis, to obtain a system of recursion relations for integrals on moduli spaces of curves. By applying the asymptotic analysis on the join-cut relation of the ELSV formula, we derive the recursion relation of R. Dijkgraaf and E. and H. Verlinde, which is exactly the Virasoro constraints for topological gravity. This gives an alternative proof of Wittens Conjecture using asymptotic analysis.

Abstract:In his paper on the Mordell-Lang conjecture, Hrushovski employed techniques from model theory to prove the function field version of the conjecture. In doing so he was able to answer a related question of Voloch, which we refer to henceforth as Hrushovski's theorem. In this paper we shall give an alternative proof of said theorem in the characteristic $p$ setting, but using purely algebro-geometric ideas.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain sharp estimates for the number of lattice points under and near the dilation of a general parabola, the former generalizing an old result of Popov. We apply Vaaler's lemma and the Erdős-Turan inequality to reduce the two underlying counting problems to mean values of a certain quadratic exponential sums, whose treatment is subject to classical analytic techniques.

Abstract:We prove a new type of pointwise estimate of the Kalamajska-Mazya-Shaposhnikova type, where sparse averaging operators replace the maximal operator. It allows us to extend the Gagliardo-Nirenberg interpolation inequality to all rearrangement invariant Banach function spaces without any assumptions on their upper Boyd index, i.e. omitting problems caused by unboundedness of maximal operator on spaces close to $L^1$. In particular, we remove unnecessary assumptions from the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality in the setting of Orlicz and Lorentz spaces. The applied method is new in this context and may be seen as a kind of sparse domination technique fitted to the context of rearrangement invariant Banach function spaces.

Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we establish some results around generalized Borel's Theorem. As an application, in the second part, we construct example of smooth surface of degree $d\geq 19$ in $\mathbb{CP}^3$ whose complements is hyperbolically embedded in $\mathbb{CP}^3$. This improves the previous construction of Shirosaki where the degree bound $d=31$ was gave. In the last part, for a Fermat-Waring type hypersurface $D$ in $\mathbb{CP}^n$ defined by the homogeneous polynomial \[ \sum_{i=1}^m h_i^d, \] where $m,n,d$ are positive integers with $m\geq 3n-1$ and $d\geq m^2-m+1$, where $h_i$ are homogeneous generic linear forms on $\mathbb{C}^{n+1}$, for a nonconstant holomorphic function $f\colon\mathbb{C}\rightarrow\mathbb{CP}^n$ whose image is not contained in the support of $D$, we establish a Second Main Theorem type estimate: \[ \big(d-m(m-1)\big)\,T_f(r)\leq N_f^{[m-1]}(r,D)+S_f(r). \] This quantifies the hyperbolicity result due to Shiffman-Zaidenberg and Siu-Yeung.

The Uniform Mordell-Lang Conjecture

Abstract:The Mordell--Lang conjecture for abelian varieties states that the intersection of an algebraic subvariety $X$ with a subgroup of finite rank is contained in a finite union of cosets contained in $X$. In this article, we prove a uniform version of this conjecture, meaning that that the number of cosets necessary does not depend on the ambient abelian variety. To achieve this, we prove a general gap principle on algebraic points that extends the gap principle for curves embedded into their Jacobians, previously obtained by Dimitrov--Gao--Habegger and Kühne. Our new gap principle also implies the full uniform Bogomolov conjecture in abelian varieties.

Abstract:In this note we study common preperiodic points of rational maps of the Riemann Sphere. We show that given any degrees $d_1,d_2\geq2$, outside a Zariski closed subset of the space of pairs of rational maps $(f,g)$ of degree $d_1$ and $d_2$ respectively, the maps $f$ and $g$ share at most a uniformly bounded number of common preperiodic points. This generalizes a result of DeMarco and Mavraki to maps of possibly different degrees. Our main contribution is the use of Hölder properties of the Green function of a rational map to obtain height estimates.

Abstract:A theorem proved by Hrushovski for graphs and extended by Solecki and Vershik (independently from each other) to metric spaces leads to a stronger version of ultrahomogeneity of the infinite random graph $R$, the universal Urysohn metric space $\Ur$, and other related objects. We show how the result can be used to average out uniform and coarse embeddings of $\Ur$ (and its various counterparts) into normed spaces. Sometimes this leads to new embeddings of the same kind that are metric transforms and besides extend to affine representations of various isometry groups. As an application of this technique, we show that $\Ur$ admits neither a uniform nor a coarse embedding into a uniformly convex Banach space.

Uniform dual approximation to Veronese curves in small dimension

Abstract:We refine upper bounds for the classical exponents of uniform approximation for a linear form on the Veronese curve in dimension from $3$ to $9$. For dimension three, this in particular shows that a bound previously obtained by two different methods is not sharp. Our proof involves parametric geometry of numbers and investigation of geometric properties of best approximation polynomials. Slightly stronger bounds have been obtained by Poels with a different method contemporarily. In fact, we obtain the same bounds as a conditional result.

Abstract:In this paper we improve and complement a result by Móricz and Siddiqi \cite{Mor}. In particular, we prove that their estimate of the Nörlund means with respect to the Vilenkin system holds also without their additional condition. Moreover, we prove a similar approximation result in Lebesgue spaces for any $1\leq p<\infty$.

We mainly generalize Rémond's work on large points to allow an extra $\epsilon$-neighborhood. The part on small points follows from an earlier paper, joint with Gao and Kühne.

Abstract:In the present article, we formulate a conjectural uniform error term in the Chebotarev–Sato–Tate distribution for abelian surfaces -isogenous to a product of not -isogenous non-CM-elliptic curves, established by the author in Amri (Eur J Math, 2023. https://doi.org/10.1007/s40879-023-00682-5, Theorem 1.1). As a consequence, we provide a conditional direct proof to the generalized Lang–Trotter conjecture recently formulated and studied in Chen et al. (Ramanujan J, 2022).

A Generalized Lévy-Khintchine Theorem

Abstract:The famous Lévy-Khintchine theorem is a beautiful limiting law for the denominators of the convergents of the continued fraction expansion of a real number. In a recent breakthrough, Cheung and Chevallier (Annales scientifiques de l'ENS, 2024) extended this theorem to higher dimensions. In this paper, we consider multiple generalizations of the definition of the best approximates of a matrix and prove analogues of the Lévy-Khintchine theorem for all these generalizations. A special case of our theorem answers a question posed by Cheung and Chevallier about Lévy-Khintchine type theorems for arbitrary norms. Another notable instance of our results resolves a conjecture of Yitwah Cheung. While our findings are new for higher dimensions, even in the one-dimensional case our work is a significant improvement over available results. Notably, we extend the results of Cheung and Chevallier by proving their theorems for any Birkhoff generic point and by permitting the best approximates to satisfy additional geometric and arithmetic conditions. Moreover, our main theorem, from which the above results follow, also extends the recent work of Shapira and Weiss.

Abstract:New, doubling proofs are given for the interior Hessian estimates of the special Lagrangian equation. These estimates were originally shown by Chen-Warren-Yuan in CPAM 2009 and Wang-Yuan in AJM 2014. This yields a higher codimension analogue of Korevaar's 1987 pointwise proof of the gradient estimate for minimal hypersurfaces, without using the Michael-Simon mean value inequality.
