Abstract:We give a first example of 2-knots with the same knot group but different knot quandles by analyzing the knot quandles of twist spins. As a byproduct of the analysis, we also give a classification of all twist spins with finite knot quandles.

Abstract:A $k$-twist spun knot is an $n+1$-dimensional knot in the $n+3$-dimensional sphere which is obtained from an $n$-dimensional knot in the $n+2$-dimensional sphere by applying an operation called a $k$-twist-spinning. This construction was introduced by Zeeman in 1965. In this paper, we show that the $m_2$-twist-spinning of the $m_1$-twist-spinning of a classical knot is a trivial $3$-knot in $S^5$ if $\gcd(m_1,m_2)=1$. We also give a sufficient condition for the $m_2$-twist-spinning of the $m_1$-twist-spinning of a classical knot to be non-trivial.

Abstract:A 2-sphere embedded in the 4-sphere invariant under a circle action is called a branched twist spin. A branched twist spin is constructed from a 1-knot in the 3-sphere and a pair of coprime integers uniquely. In this paper, we study, for each pair of coprime integers, if two different 1-knots yield the same branched twist spin, and prove that such a pair of 1-knots does not exist in most cases. Fundamental groups of 3-orbifolds of cyclic type are obtained as quotient groups of the fundamental groups of the complements of branched twist spins. We use these groups for distinguishing branched twist spins.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that the Gluck twist of certain satellite $2$-knots in a $4$-manifold do not change the diffeomorphism type in three different ways: one is directly from the definition of the satellite $2$-knot, and the other two are by finding an equivalent description of the satellite $2$-knot. Furthermore, using the new description, we gave infinite number of new examples of $2$-knots which are unknotted by connected summing a single standard real projective plane.

Abstract:A $2k$-move is a local deformation adding or removing $2k$ half-twists. We show that if two virtual knots are related by a finite sequence of $2k$-moves, then their $n$-writhes are congruent modulo $k$ for any nonzero integer $n$, and their odd writhes are congruent modulo $2k$. Moreover, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for two virtual knots to have the same congruence class of odd writhes modulo $2k$.

Abstract:Based on a vanishing theorem for non-fibered knots due to Friedl and Vidussi, we define the twisted Alexander vanishing order of a knot to be the order of the smallest finite group such that the corresponding twisted Alexander polynomial is zero. In this paper, we show its basic properties, and provide several explicit values for knots with $10$ or fewer crossings. Moreover, we characterize a finite group admitting the zero-twisted Alexander polynomial.

Abstract:We introduce twisted set-theoretic Yang-Baxter solutions and develop an associated cohomology theory, which extends the standard cohomology theory of Yang-Baxter solutions. By employing cocycles of twisted biquandles along with Alexander numbering, we construct state-sum invariants for knots and knotted surfaces. As an application, we use our approach to distinguish the $2$-twist spun trefoil from its reverse orientation, in line with prior findings.

Abstract:Twisting a given knot $K$ about an unknotted circle $c$ a full $n \in \mathbb{N}$ times, we obtain a "twist family" of knots $\{ K_n \}$. Work of Kouno-Motegi-Shibuya implies that for a non-trivial twist family the crossing numbers $\{c(K_n)\}$ of the knots in a twist family grows unboundedly. However potentially this growth is rather slow and may never become monotonic. Nevertheless, based upon the apparent diagrams of a twist family of knots, one expects the growth should eventually be linear. Indeed we conjecture that if $\eta$ is the geometric wrapping number of $K$ about $c$, then the crossing number of $K_n$ grows like $n \eta(\eta-1)$ as $n \to \infty$. To formulate this, we introduce the "stable crossing number" of a twist family of knots and establish the conjecture for (i) coherent twist families where the geometric wrapping and algebraic winding of $K$ about $c$ agree and (ii) twist families with wrapping number $2$ subject to an additional condition. Using the lower bound on a knot's crossing number in terms of its genus via Yamada's braiding algorithm, we bound the stable crossing number from below using the growth of the genera of knots in a twist family. (This also prompts a discussion of the "stable braid index".) As an application, we prove that highly twisted satellite knots in a twist family where the companion is twisted as well satisfy the Satellite Crossing Number Conjecture.

Abstract:Conjecturally, there are only finitely many Heegaard Floer L-space knots in $S^3$ of a given genus. We examine this conjecture for twist families of knots $\{K_n\}$ obtained by twisting a knot $K$ in $S^3$ along an unknot $c$ in terms of the linking number $\omega$ between $K$ and $c$. We establish the conjecture in case of $|\omega| \neq 1$, prove that $\{K_n\}$ contains at most three L-space knots if $\omega = 0$, and address the case where $|\omega| = 1$ under an additional hypothesis about Seifert surgeries. To that end, we characterize a twisting circle $c$ for which $\{ (K_n, r_n) \}$ contains at least ten Seifert surgeries. We also pose a few questions about the nature of twist families of L-space knots, their expressions as closures of positive (or negative) braids, and their wrapping about the twisting circle.

Twisted Iwasawa invariants of knots

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number and $m$ an integer coprime to $p$. In the spirit of arithmetic topology, we introduce the notions of the twisted Iwasawa invariants $\lambda, \mu, \nu$ of ${\rm GL}_N$-representations and $\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}\times \mathbb{Z}_p$-covers of knots. We prove among other things that the set of Iwasawa invariants determine the genus and the fiberedness of a knot, yielding their profinite rigidity. Several intuitive examples are attached. We further prove the $\mu=0$ theorem for ${\rm SL}_2$-representations of twist knot groups and give some remarks.

Abstract:In this paper we prove that if M K is the complement of a non-fibered twist knot K in [Formula: see text], then M K is not commensurable to a fibered knot complement in a Z/2Z-homology sphere. To prove this result we derive a recursive description of the character variety of twist knots and then prove that a commensurability criterion developed by Calegari and Dunfield is satisfied for these varieties. In addition, we partially extend our results to a second infinite family of 2-bridge knots.

Abstract:We introduce a new invariant for a $2$-knot in $S^4$, called the shadow-complexity, based on the theory of Turaev shadows, and we give a characterization of $2$-knots with shadow-complexity at most $1$. Specifically, we show that the unknot is the only $2$-knot with shadow-complexity $0$ and that there exist infinitely many $2$-knots with shadow-complexity $1$.

Abstract:We study a local twist move on welded knots that is an analog of the virtualization move on virtual knots. Since this move is an unknotting operation we define an invariant, unknotting twist number, for welded knots. We relate the unknotting twist number with warping degree and welded unknotting number, and establish a lower bound on the twist number using Alexander quandle coloring. We also study the Gordian distance between welded knots by twist move and define the corresponding Gordian complex.
Two curious strongly invertible L-space knots

Abstract:We present two examples of strongly invertible L-space knots whose surgeries are never the double branched cover of a Khovanov thin link in the 3-sphere. Consequently, these knots provide counterexamples to a conjectural characterization of strongly invertible L-space knots due to Watson. We also discuss other exceptional properties of these two knots, for example, these two L-space knots have formal semigroups that are actual semigroups.
