This problem asks for which modules over a semi-simple finite dimensional complex Lie algebra, the universal enveloping algebra surjects onto the algebra of adjointly locally finite linear endomorphism.

Abstract:We give a complete combinatorial classification of those parabolic Verma modules in the principal block of the parabolic category $\mathcal{O}$ associated to a minimal or a maximal parabolic subalgebra of the special linear Lie algebra for which the answer to Kostant's problem is positive.

Abstract:In this paper the authors investigate infinite-dimensional representations $L$ in blocks of the relative (parabolic) category ${\mathcal O}_S$ for a complex simple Lie algebra, having the property that the cohomology of the nilradical with coefficients in $L$ ``looks like'' the cohomology with coefficients in a finite-dimensional module, as in Kostant's theorem. A complete classification of these ``Kostant modules'' in regular blocks for maximal parabolics in the simply laced types is given. A complete classification is also given in arbitrary (singular) blocks for Hermitian symmetric categories.

Abstract:We study the classical problem of Kostant for Whittaker modules over Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras. We give a sufficient condition for a positive answer to Kostant's problem for the standard Whittaker modules over reductive Lie algebras. Under the same condition, the positivity of the answer for simple Whittaker modules is reduced to that for simple highest weight modules. We develop several reduction results to reduce the Kostant's problem for standard and simple Whittaker modules over a type I Lie superalgebra to that for the corresponding Whittaker modules over the even part of this Lie superalgebra.

Abstract:Let g be a complex simple Lie algebra, and h be a Cartan subalgebra. In the end of 1990s, B. Kostant defined two filtrations on h, one using the Clifford algebras and the odd analogue of the Harish-Chandra projection $hc: Cl(g) \to Cl(h)$, and the other one using the canonical isomorphism $\check{h} = h^*$ (here $\check{h}$ is the Cartan subalgebra in the simple Lie algebra corresponding to the dual root system) and the adjoint action of the principal sl2-triple. Kostant conjectured that the two filtrations coincide. The two filtrations arise in very different contexts, and comparing them proved to be a difficult task. Y. Bazlov settled the conjecture for g of type A using explicit expressions for primitive invariants in the exterior algebra of g. Up to now this approach did not lead to a proof for all simple Lie algebras. Recently, A. Joseph proved that the second Kostant filtration coincides with the filtration on h induced by the generalized Harish-Chandra projection $(Ug \otimes g)^g \to Sh \otimes h$ and the evaluation at $\rho \in h^*$. In this note, we prove that Joseph's result is equivalent to the Kostant Conjecture. We also show that the standard Harish-Chandra projection $Ug \to Sh$ composed with evaluation at $\rho$ induces the same filtration on h.

Abstract:In his thesis, N. Durov develops a theory of algebraic geometry in which schemes are locally determined by commutative algebraic monads. In this setting, one is able to construct the Arakelov geometric compactification of the spectrum of the ring of integers in a purely algebraic fashion. This object arises as the limit of a certain projective system of generalized schemes. We study the constituents of this projective system, and compute their algebraic K-theory.

Abstract:This text contributes to the foundations of the theory of global Berkovich spaces, that is to say Berkovich spaces over Banach rings with nice properties such as $\mathbf{Z}$, rings of integers of number fields, discrete valuation rings, hybrid fields, etc. We focus on three main themes that had not been investigated so far: category, topology and cohomology. As regards the category, our main task is to define a well-behaved notion of morphism. We then have the suitable setting at our disposal to carry out and study various constructions: products, fiber products, extensions of scalars, analytification of schemes, etc. On the topological side, we show that global Berkovich spaces are locally path-connected. The main ingredient is an analogue of Noether's normalization lemma, that we obtain after a careful study of finite morphisms. Finally, we prove that open and closed discs of arbitrary dimension have no higher coherent cohomology. This is a deep result, which allows us to initiate a theory of global overconvergent affinoid spaces, where the analogues of Tate's and Kiehl's theorems hold. As a consequence of our vanishing statements, we obtain a geometric proof of a Noetherianity result for certain rings of convergent arithmetic power series (power series with integral coefficients and positive complex radii of convergence), generalizing a theorem of D. Harbater from the case of a single variable to arbitrary many.

Abstract:We study, by means of Littelmann's theory of paths, Kostant-Kumar modules (KK modules for short), which by definition are certain submodules of the tensor product of two irreducible integrable highest weight representations of a symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra. Our main result is an identification of a path model for any KK module as a subset of the well known path model for the tensor product consisting of concatenations of Lakshmibai-Seshadri paths. The technical results about extremal elements in Coxeter groups that we formulate and prove en route and the technique of their proofs should be of independent interest. We also discuss the existence of PRV components and generalised PRV components in KK modules. Specialising to the case of the special linear Lie algebra, we record a decomposition rule for KK modules in terms of Littlewood-Richardson tableaux. In this connection, we present a new procedure to determine the permutation that is the initial element of the minimal standard lift of a semi-standard Young tableau. The appendix, necessitated by the derivation of the tableau decomposition rule, deals with standard concatenations of Lakshmibai-Seshadri paths of arbitrary shapes, of which semi-standard Young tableaux form a very special case.

Generalizations of noncommutative Noether's problem

Abstract:Noether's problem is classical and very important problem in algebra. It is an intrinsically interesting problem in invariant theory, but with far reaching applications in the sutdy of moduli spaces, PI-algebras, and the Inverse problem of Galois theory, among others. To obtain an noncommutative analogue of Noether's problem, one would need a significant skew field that shares a role similar to the field of ratioal functions. Given the importance of the Weyl fields due to Gelfand-Kirillov's Conjecture, in 2006 J. Alev and F. Dumas introduced what is nowdays called the noncommutative Noether's problem. Many papers in recent years \cite{FMO}, \cite{EFOS}, \cite{FS}, \cite{Tikaradze} have been dedicated to the subject. The aim of this article is to generalize the main result of \cite{FS} for more general versions of Noether's problem; and consider its analogue in prime characteristic.

Abstract:It is proved that, for a left hereditary ring, an arbitrary left module has a representation in the form of the direct sum of a stable left module and indecomposable projective left modules (if and only if an arbitrary left module has a representation in the form of the direct sum of a stable left module and a projective left module) if and only if the ring is left perfect and right coherent. In that case, the above-mentioned representations are unique up to isomorphism; the latter representation is also functorial. The essential ingredient in the proofs of the above-mentioned statements is a certain purely categorical result. These statements, in particular, imply that, for any principal ideal domain that is not a field, the fundamental theorem on finitely generated modules over it can not be generalized to the case of all modules. Moreover, with the aid of the above-mentioned categorical approach, we give a new proof of the Zheng-Xu He's result asserting that any module of a ring has a unique up to isomorphism injective-costable decomposition if and only if the ring is left hereditary and left Noetherian. The above-mentioned statements, in particular, imply that if the category of left modules over a left hereditary ring is Krull-Schmidt, then the ring is left Artinian. Yet another criterion for a ring to be left hereditary, left perfect and right coherent (resp. left hereditary left Noetherian) found in the paper requires that the pair $(Stable$ $modules$, $Projective$ $modules)$ (resp. $(Injective$ $Modules, Costable$ $ Modules)$) of module classes be a pre-torsion theory. This implies that the pair $(Stable$ $modules$, $Projective$ $modules)$ is a torsion theory if and only if the ring is left hereditary and the injective envelope of the ring, viewed as a left module over itself, is projective.

Abstract:We show the failure of a matricial version of Grothendieck's theorem for operator spaces, thereby resolving a long-standing open question in the field. Moreover, by showing that such a counterexample can occur in the simplest context of commutative $C^*$-algebras, we address some other open questions in operator algebras. Our constructions, completely explicit and fairly simple, are inspired by some techniques in quantum information theory.

Abstract:In these expository notes I discuss several concepts and results in the theory of modules over commutative rings, revolving around the Gorenstein dimension of modules. Some of the related notions are the Auslander dual, k-torsionless modules, and k-th syzygies. Essentially everything in these notes can be found, in one form or another, in the memoir "Stable module theory" by M. Auslander and M. Bridger (Mem. A.M.S., no. 94, 1969). The only difference is in presentation. In the Auslander-Bridger memoir many of the results are proved in the most general setting, e.g. over possibly non-commutative, non-Noetherian rings. The techniques used are quite abstract and unfamiliar to many commutative algebraists. Much space is devoted to the theory of satellites of functors which are exact only in the middle, etc. While such a degree of generality has many advantages, it does make the memoir difficult to read for the non-expert. My goal in writing these notes was to develop the theory in the context of commutative Noetherian rings, and to show that, in this important special case, the theory is fairly elementary and easy to build. As a practical matter, then, I wrote the notes using Matsumura's "Commutative ring theory" as the only pre-requisite; and indeed, my hope is that these notes can be read just like an extra chapter in Matsumura's book.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the tools of nonabelian duality to formulate and prove a far-reaching generalization of the Stone-von Neumann Theorem to modular representations of actions and coactions of locally compact groups on elementary $ C^{\ast} $-algebras. This greatly extends the Covariant Stone-von Neumann Theorem for Actions of Abelian Groups recently proven by L. Ismert and the second author. Our approach is based on a new result about Hilbert $ C^{\ast} $-modules that is simple to state yet is widely applicable and can be used to streamline many previous arguments, so it represents an improvement -- in terms of both efficiency and generality -- in a long line of results in this area of mathematical physics that goes back to J. von Neumann's proof of the classical Stone-von Neumann Theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we aim to obtain some results under the condition that the dual of a module has finite Gorenstein dimension. In this direction we derive results involving vanishing of Ext as well as the freeness or totally reflexivity of modules. For instance, we provide a generalization of a celebrated theorem by Evans and Griffith, obtain criteria for the totally reflexivity of modules over Cohen-Macaulay rings as well as of locally totally modules reflexive on the punctured spectrum, and recover a result by Araya. Moreover, we prove that the Auslander-Reiten conjecture holds true for all finitely generated modules $M$ over a Noetherian local ring $R$ such that $\operatorname{G-dim}_R(\operatorname{Hom}_R(M,R))<\infty$ and $\operatorname{pd}_R(\operatorname{Hom}_R(M,M))<\infty$. Additionally, we derive Gorenstein criteria under the condition that the dual of certain modules is of finite Gorenstein dimension. Furthermore, we explore some applications in the theory of the modules of Kähler differentials of order $n\geq 1$, specifically concerning the $k$-torsionfreeness of these modules and the Herzog-Vasconcelos's conjecture.
