Abstract:Using the shadow formalism we find global conformal blocks of torus CFT$_2$. It is shown that $n$-point torus blocks in the ``necklace'' channel (a loop with $n$ legs) are expressed in terms of a hypergeometric-type function which we refer to as the necklace function.

Abstract:Shadow formalism is a technique in two-dimensional CFT allowing straightforward computation of conformal blocks in the limit of infinitely large central charge. We generalize the construction of shadow operator for superconformal field theories. We demonstrate that shadow formalism yields known expressions for the large-c limit of the four-point superconformal block on a plane and of the one-point superconformal block on a torus. We also explicitly find the two-point global torus superconformal block in the necklace channel and check it against the Casimir differential equation.

Abstract:We study $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ and $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ global conformal blocks on a sphere and a torus, using the shadow formalism. These blocks arise in the context of Virasoro and $\mathcal{W}_3$ conformal field theories in the large central charge limit. In the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ case, we demonstrate that the shadow formalism yields the known expressions in terms of conformal partial waves. Then, we extend this approach to the $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ case and show that it allows to build simple integral representations for $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ global blocks. We demonstrate this construction on two examples: the four-point block on the sphere and the one-point torus block.

Abstract:In this work, we develop the shadow formalism for two-dimensional Galilean conformal field theory (GCFT 2 ). We define the principal series representation of Galilean conformal symmetry group and find its relation with the Wigner classification, then we determine the shadow transform of local operators. Using this formalism we derive the OPE blocks, Clebsch-Gordan kernels, conformal blocks and conformal partial waves. A new feature is that the conformal block admits additional branch points, which would destroy the convergence of OPE for certain parameters. We establish another inversion formula different from the previous one, but get the same result when decomposing the four-point functions in the mean field theory (MFT). We also construct a continuous series of bilocal actions of MFT, and an exceptional series of local actions, one of which is the BMS free scalar model. We notice that there is an outer automorphism of the Galilean conformal symmetry, and the GCFT 2 can be regarded as null defect in higher dimensional CFTs.

Abstract:Virasoro conformal blocks are a family of important functions defined as power series via the Virasoro algebra. They are a fundamental input to the conformal bootstrap program for 2D conformal field theory (CFT) and are closely related to four dimensional supersymmetric gauge theory through the Alday-Gaiotto-Tachikawa correspondence. The present work provides a probabilistic construction of the 1-point toric Virasoro conformal block for central change greater than 25. More precisely, we construct an analytic function using a probabilistic tool called Gaussian multiplicative chaos (GMC) and prove that its power series expansion coincides with the 1-point toric Virasoro conformal block. The range $(25,\infty)$ of central charges corresponds to Liouville CFT, an important CFT originating from 2D quantum gravity and bosonic string theory. Our work reveals a new integrable structure underlying GMC and opens the door to the study of non-perturbative properties of Virasoro conformal blocks such as their analytic continuation and modular symmetry. Our proof combines an analysis of GMC with tools from CFT such as Belavin-Polyakov-Zamolodchikov differential equations, operator product expansions, and Dotsenko-Fateev type integrals.

Abstract:The well-known modular property of the torus characters and torus partition functions of (rational) vertex operator algebras (VOAs) and 2d conformal field theories (CFTs) has been an invaluable tool for studying this class of theories. In this work we prove that sphere four-point chiral blocks of rational VOAs are vector-valued modular forms for the groups $\Gamma(2)$, $\Gamma_0(2)$, or $\text{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$. Moreover, we prove that the four-point correlators, combining the holomorphic and anti-holomorphic chiral blocks, are modular invariant. In particular, in this language the crossing symmetries are simply modular symmetries. This gives the possibility of exploiting the available techniques and knowledge about modular forms to determine or constrain the physically interesting quantities such as chiral blocks and fusion coefficients, which we illustrate with a few examples. We also highlight the existence of a sphere-torus correspondence equating the sphere quantities of certain theories $\mathcal{T}_s$ with the torus quantities of another family of theories $\mathcal{T}_t$. A companion paper will delve into more examples and explore more systematically this sphere-torus duality.

Abstract:We establish that all of the one- and two-dimensional global conformal blocks are, up to some choice of prefactor, free-particle wavefunctions in tensor products of AdS 3 or limits thereof. Our first core observation is that the six-point comb-channel conformal blocks correspond to free-particle wavefunctions on an AdS 3 constructed directly in cross-ratio space. This construction generalizes to blocks for a special class of diagrams, which are determined as free-particle wavefunctions in tensor products of AdS 3 . Conformal blocks for all the remaining topologies are obtained as limits of the free wavefunctions mentioned above. Our results show directly that the integrable models associated with all one- and two-dimensional conformal blocks can be seen as limits of free theory, and manifest a relation between AdS and CFT kinematics that lies outside of the standard AdS/CFT dictionary. We complete the discussion by providing explicit Feynman-like rules that can be used to work out blocks for all topologies, as well as a Mathematica notebook that allows simple computation of Casimir equations and series expansions for blocks, by requiring just an OPE diagram as input.

On new exact conformal blocks and Nekrasov functions

Abstract:Recently, an intriguing family of the one-point toric conformal blocks AGT related to the $\mathcal{N}=2^*\,\, SU(2)$ Nekrasov functions was discovered by M. Beccaria and G. Macorini. Members of the family are distinguished by having only finite amount of poles as functions of the intermediate dimension/v.e.v. in gauge theory. Another remarkable property is that these conformal blocks/Nekrasov functions can be found in closed form to all orders in the coupling expansion. In the present paper we use Zamolodchikov's recurrence equation to systematically account for these exceptional conformal blocks. We conjecture that the family is infinite-dimensional and describe the corresponding parameter set. We further apply the developed technique to demonstrate that the four-point spheric conformal blocks feature analogous exact expressions. We also study the modular transformations of the finite-pole blocks.

Abstract:The explicit computation of higher-point conformal blocks in any dimension is usually a challenging task. For two-dimensional conformal field theories in Euclidean signature, the oscillator formalism proves to be very efficient. We demonstrate this by reproducing the general n-point global conformal block in the comb channel in an elegant and direct manner. Exploiting similarities to the representation theory of two-dimensional CFTs, we extend the oscillator formalism for the computation of higher-point conformal blocks in four Euclidean dimensions. As a proof of concept, we explicitly compute the scalar four-point block with scalar exchange within this framework.

Abstract:In 1986, Zamolodchikov conjectured an exponential structure for the semi-classical limit of conformal blocks on a sphere. This paper provides a rigorous proof of the analog of Zamolodchikov conjecture for Liouville conformal blocks on a one-punctured torus, using their probabilistic construction and show the existence of a positive radius of convergence of the semi-classical limit. As a consequence, we obtain a closed form expression for the solution of the Lamé equation, and show a relation between its accessory parameter and the classical action of the non-autonomous elliptic Calogero-Moser model evaluated at specific values of the solution.

Abstract:We give a non-perturbative completion of a class of closed topological string theories in terms of building blocks of dual open strings. In the specific case where the open string is given by a matrix model these blocks correspond to a choice of integration contour. We then apply this definition to the AGT setup where the dual matrix model has logarithmic potential and is conjecturally equivalent to Liouville conformal field theory. By studying the natural contours of these matrix integrals and their monodromy properties, we propose a precise map between topological string blocks and Liouville conformal blocks. Remarkably, this description makes use of the light-cone diagrams of closed string field theory, where the critical points of the matrix potential correspond to string interaction points.

Abstract:Conformal field theory and its axiomatisation in terms of vertex operator algebras or chiral algebras are most commonly considered on the Riemann sphere. However, an important constraint in physics and an interesting source of mathematics is the fact that conformal field theories are expected to be well defined on any Riemann surface. To this end, a thorough understanding of chiral torus 1-point functions, ideally including explicit formulae, is a prerequisite for a detailed understanding of higher genera. These are distinguished from characters or vacuum torus 1-point functions because the insertion point is explicitly allowed to be labelled by any module over the vertex operator algebra rather than just the vertex operator algebra itself.

Abstract:We study the spaces of twisted conformal blocks attached to a $\Gamma$-curve $\Sigma$ with marked $\Gamma$-orbits and an action of $\Gamma$ on a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, where $\Gamma$ is a finite group. We prove that if $\Gamma$ stabilizes a Borel subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}$, then Propagation Theorem and Factorization Theorem hold. We endow a flat projective connection on the sheaf of twisted conformal blocks attached to a smooth family of pointed $\Gamma$-curves; in particular, it is locally free. We also prove that the sheaf of twisted conformal blocks on the stable compactification of Hurwitz stack is locally free. Let $\mathscr{G}$ be the parahoric Bruhat-Tits group scheme on the quotient curve $\Sigma/\Gamma$ obtained via the $\Gamma$-invariance of Weil restriction associated to $\Sigma$ and the simply-connected simple algebraic group $G$ with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. We prove that the space of twisted conformal blocks can be identified with the space of generalized theta functions on the moduli stack of quasi-parabolic $\mathscr{G}$-torsors on $\Sigma/\Gamma$ when the level $c$ is divisible by $|\Gamma|$ (establishing a conjecture due to Pappas-Rapoport).

In this article, we use analytic methods to prove that sewing conformal blocks is convergent, solving a conjecture proposed by Zhu and Huang.

Degenerate conformal blocks for the $W_3$ algebra at c=2 and Specht polynomials

Abstract:We study a homogeneous system of $d+8$ linear partial differential equations (PDEs) in $d$ variables arising from two-dimensional Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) with a $W_3$-symmetry algebra. In the CFT context, $d$ PDEs are third order and correspond to the null-state equations, whereas the remaining 8 PDEs (five being second order and three being first order) correspond to the $W_3$ global Ward identities. In the case of central charge $c=2$, we construct a subspace of the space of all solutions which grow no faster than a power law. We call this subspace the space of $W_3$ conformal blocks, and we provide a basis expressed in terms of Specht polynomials associated with column-strict, rectangular Young tableaux with three columns. The dimension of this space is a Kotska number and it coincides with CFT predictions, hence we conjecture that it exhausts the space of all solutions having a power law bound. Moreover, we prove that the space of $W_3$ conformal blocks is an irreducible representation of a certain diagram algebra defined from $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ webs that we call Kuperberg algebra. Finally, we formulate a precise conjecture relating the $W_3$ conformal blocks at $c=2$ to scaling limits of probabilities in the triple dimer model recently studied by Kenyon and Shi. We verify the conjecture for explicit examples up to $d=6$. For more general central charges, we expect that $W_3$ conformal blocks are related to scaling limits of probabilities in lattice models based on $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ webs.

Abstract:Let be a finite group acting on a simple Lie algebra and acting on a s -pointed projective curve faithfully (for ). Also, let an integrable highest weight module of an appropriate twisted affine Lie algebra determined by the ramification at with a fixed central charge c is attached to each . We prove that the space of twisted conformal blocks attached to this data is isomorphic to the space associated to a quotient group of acting on by diagram automorphisms and acting on a quotient of . Under some mild conditions on ramification types, we prove that calculating the dimension of twisted conformal blocks can be reduced to the situation when acts on by diagram automorphisms and covers of with 3 marked points. Assuming a twisted analogue of Teleman's vanishing theorem of Lie algebra homology, we derive an analogue of the Kac–Walton formula and the Verlinde formula for general -curves (with mild restrictions on ramification types). In particular, if the Lie algebra is not of type , there are no restrictions on ramification types.

Abstract:The general form of a 2D conformal field theory (CFT) correlator on a Euclidean Riemann surface, Lorentzian plane or Lorentzian cylinder is well-known. This paper describes the general form of 2- and 3-point CFT correlators on the Lorentzian torus $\mathcal{LT}^2$ which arises as the conformal boundary of the group manifold $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ $\simeq \text{AdS}_3/\mathbb{Z}$. We consider only generic points, thereby omitting an analysis of contact terms, which already exhibits a surprisingly rich structure. The results are relevant to celestial holography, for which the $\mathcal{LT}^2$ at the boundary of Klein space is the home of the putative celestial CFT.

Abstract:We show that in 2d CFTs at large central charge, the coupling of the stress tensor to heavy operators can be re-absorbed by placing the CFT in a non-trivial background metric. This leads to a more precise computation of the Virasoro conformal blocks between heavy and light operators, which are shown to be equivalent to global conformal blocks evaluated in the new background. We also generalize to the case where the operators carry U(1) charges. The refined Virasoro blocks can be used as the seed for a new Virasoro block recursion relation expanded in the heavy-light limit. We comment on the implications of our results for the universality of black hole thermality in AdS3, or equivalently, the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis for CFT2 at large central charge.
