Abstract:Virasoro conformal blocks are a family of important functions defined as power series via the Virasoro algebra. They are a fundamental input to the conformal bootstrap program for 2D conformal field theory (CFT) and are closely related to four dimensional supersymmetric gauge theory through the Alday-Gaiotto-Tachikawa correspondence. The present work provides a probabilistic construction of the 1-point toric Virasoro conformal block for central change greater than 25. More precisely, we construct an analytic function using a probabilistic tool called Gaussian multiplicative chaos (GMC) and prove that its power series expansion coincides with the 1-point toric Virasoro conformal block. The range $(25,\infty)$ of central charges corresponds to Liouville CFT, an important CFT originating from 2D quantum gravity and bosonic string theory. Our work reveals a new integrable structure underlying GMC and opens the door to the study of non-perturbative properties of Virasoro conformal blocks such as their analytic continuation and modular symmetry. Our proof combines an analysis of GMC with tools from CFT such as Belavin-Polyakov-Zamolodchikov differential equations, operator product expansions, and Dotsenko-Fateev type integrals.

Conformal Correlators on the Lorentzian Torus

Abstract:The general form of a 2D conformal field theory (CFT) correlator on a Euclidean Riemann surface, Lorentzian plane or Lorentzian cylinder is well-known. This paper describes the general form of 2- and 3-point CFT correlators on the Lorentzian torus $\mathcal{LT}^2$ which arises as the conformal boundary of the group manifold $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ $\simeq \text{AdS}_3/\mathbb{Z}$. We consider only generic points, thereby omitting an analysis of contact terms, which already exhibits a surprisingly rich structure. The results are relevant to celestial holography, for which the $\mathcal{LT}^2$ at the boundary of Klein space is the home of the putative celestial CFT.

Proof of Zamolodchikov conjecture for semi-classical conformal blocks on the torus

Abstract:In 1986, Zamolodchikov conjectured an exponential structure for the semi-classical limit of conformal blocks on a sphere. This paper provides a rigorous proof of the analog of Zamolodchikov conjecture for Liouville conformal blocks on a one-punctured torus, using their probabilistic construction and show the existence of a positive radius of convergence of the semi-classical limit. As a consequence, we obtain a closed form expression for the solution of the Lamé equation, and show a relation between its accessory parameter and the classical action of the non-autonomous elliptic Calogero-Moser model evaluated at specific values of the solution.

Twist operator correlator revisited and tau function on Hurwitz space

Abstract:Correlation function of twist operators is a natural quantity of interest in two-dimensional conformal field theory (2d CFT) and finds relevance in various physical contexts. For computing twist operator correlators associated with generic branched covers of genus zero and one, we present a generalization of the conventional stress-tensor method to encompass generic 2d CFTs without relying on any free field realization. This is achieved by employing a generalization of the argument of Calabrese-Cardy in the cyclic genus zero case. The generalized stress-tensor method reveals a compelling relation between the twist operator correlator and the tau function on Hurwitz space, the moduli space of branched covers, of Kokotov-Korotkin. This stems from the close relation between stress-tensor one-point function and Bergman projective connection of branched cover. The tau function on Hurwitz space is in turn related to the more general isomonodromic tau function, and this chain of correspondence thus relates the twist operator correlator to a canonical algebro-geometric object and endows it with an integrable system interpretation. Conversely, the tau function on Hurwitz space essentially admits a CFT interpretation as the holomorphic part of the twist operator correlator of $c=1$ free boson.

On modular transformations of non-degenerate toric conformal blocks

Abstract:We derive and solve the difference equations on the toric modular kernel following from the consistency relations in the fusion algebra. The result is explicit and simple series expansion for the toric modular kernel of non-degenerate Virasoro conformal blocks. We show that this expansion is equivalent to the celebrated integral representation due to B. Ponsot and J. Teschner. We also interpret obtained series representation as a non-perturbative expansion and note that this raises further questions.

Abstract:Using the shadow formalism we find global conformal blocks of torus CFT$_2$. It is shown that $n$-point torus blocks in the ``necklace'' channel (a loop with $n$ legs) are expressed in terms of a hypergeometric-type function which we refer to as the necklace function.

Abstract:We consider isomonodromic deformations of connections with a simple pole on the torus, motivated by the elliptic version of the sixth Painlevé equation. We establish an extended symmetry, complementing known results. The Calogero-Moser system in its elliptic version is shown to fit nicely in the geometric framework, the extended symplectic two-form is introduced and shown to be closed.

Scalar Curvature for Noncommutative Four-Tori

Abstract:In this paper we study the curved geometry of noncommutative 4-tori $\mathbb{T}_\theta^4$. We use a Weyl conformal factor to perturb the standard volume form and obtain the Laplacian that encodes the local geometric information. We use Connes' pseudodifferential calculus to explicitly compute the terms in the small time heat kernel expansion of the perturbed Laplacian which correspond to the volume and scalar curvature of $\mathbb{T}_\theta^4$. We establish the analogue of Weyl's law, define a noncommutative residue, prove the analogue of Connes' trace theorem, and find explicit formulas for the local functions that describe the scalar curvature of $\mathbb{T}_\theta^4$. We also study the analogue of the Einstein-Hilbert action for these spaces and show that metrics with constant scalar curvature are critical for this action.

Twist operator correlators and isomonodromic tau functions from modular Hamiltonians

Abstract:We introduce a novel approach for computing the twist operator correlators (TOC) in two-dimensional conformal field theories (2d CFT) and the closely related isomonodromic tau functions. The method stems from the formal path integral representation of the ground state reduced density matrix in 2d CFT, and exploits properties of the associated modular Hamiltonians. For a class of genus-zero TOC/tau functions associated with branched covers with non-abelian monodromy group, we present: i) a determinantal representation derived from the correlation matrix method for free fermions, and ii) a formal integral representation derived from the universal single-interval modular Hamiltonians. For the class of genus-zero TOC/tau functions, we also argue an approximate factorization property, utilizing the known ground state correlation structure of large-$c$ holographic CFT and the universality of genus-zero TOCs. We provide explicit examples for verifying the determinantal representation and the approximate factorization property.

Fourier transforms and a filtration on the Lagrangian cobordism group of tori

Abstract:Given a polarized tropical affine torus, we show that the fibered Lagrangian cobordism group of the corresponding symplectic manifold admits a natural geometric filtration of finite length. This contrasts with results of Sheridan-Smith in dimension four and the present author in higher dimensions, who showed that such group is infinite-dimensional. In the second half of this paper, we construct a Fourier transform between Fukaya categories of dual symplectic tori. We show that, under homological mirror symmetry, it corresponds to the Fourier transform between derived categories of coherent sheaves of dual abelian varieties due to Mukai. We use this to show how our filtration is mirror to the Bloch filtration on Chow groups of abelian varieties, but the results may be of broader interest.

Harmonic functions on finitely-connected tori

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a Logarithmic Conjugation Theorem on finitely-connected tori. The theorem states that a harmonic function can be written as the real part of a function whose derivative is analytic and a finite sum of terms involving the logarithm of the modulus of a modified Weierstrass sigma function. We implement the method using arbitrary precision and use the result to find approximate solutions to the Laplace problem and Steklov eigenvalue problem. Using a posteriori estimation, we show that the solution of the Laplace problem on a torus with a few circular holes has error less than $10^{-100}$ using a few hundred degrees of freedom and the Steklov eigenvalues have similar error.

Abstract:Two dimensional conformal feld theories have been extensively studied in the past. When considered on the torus, they are strongly constrained by modular invariance. However, introducing relevant deformations or chemical potentials pushes these theories away from criticality, where many of their aspects are still poorly understood. In this note we make a step towards filling this gap, by analyzing the theory of a Dirac fermion on the torus, deformed by a mass term and a chemical potential for the particle number symmetry. The theory breaks conformal and Lorentz invariance, and we study its spectrum and partition function. We also focus on two limits that are interesting on their own right: a massless relativistic fermion with nonzero chemical potential (a simple model for CFTs at finite density), and nonrelativistic Schrodinger fermions (of relevance in condensed matter systems). Taking inspiration from recent developments in massive modular forms, we obtain a representation of the torus free energy based on Fourier-transforming over a twisted boundary condition. This dual representation fullfills many properties analogous to modular invariance in CFTs. In particular, we use this result to derive Cardy-like formulas for the high energy density of states of these theories.

Conformal field theory on $T\bar{T}$-deformed space and correlators from dynamical coordinate transformations

Abstract:We study the map between two descriptions of the $T\bar{T}$ deformation of conformal field theory (CFT): One is the defining description as a deformation of CFT by the $T\bar{T}$-operator. The other is an alternative description as the undeformed CFT on the dynamical $T\bar{T}$-deformed space that backreacts to the state or operator insertions, reminiscent of the theory of gravity. Instead of adopting the topological gravity description, we develop a more literal CFT-based operator formalism that facilitates systematic and straightforward computations of the $T\bar{T}$-deformation of the stress tensor, operators, and their correlators, while rederiving known results in the literature. Along the way, we discuss the backreaction to the $T\bar{T}$-deformed space in response to local operators and exhibit the hard-disk and free-space structures in the UV-cutoff and Hagedorn phases, respectively, suggested by Cardy-Doyon and Jiang. To capitalize on the alternative description of the $T\bar{T}$-deformed CFT, we focus on the correlators of semi-heavy operators, i.e., the operators of large conformal dimension $\Delta\gg\sqrt{c}$, and show an intuitive and simple way to obtain the $T\bar{T}$-deformed correlators from those of the undeformed CFT on the $T\bar{T}$-deformed space via dynamical coordinate transformations. This may have implications in the holographic dual description, pointing towards a working dictionary for a class of matter correlators in the cutoff AdS picture.

Abstract:We discuss an extension of the Jimbo-Miwa-Ueno differential 1-form to a form closed on the full space of extended monodromy data of systems of linear ordinary differential equations with rational coefficients. This extension is based on the results of M. Bertola generalizing a previous construction by B. Malgrange. We show how this 1-form can be used to solve a long-standing problem of evaluation of the connection formulae for the isomonodromic tau functions which would include an explicit computation of the relevant constant factors. We explain how this scheme works for Fuchsian systems and, in particular, calculate the connection constant for generic Painlevé VI tau function. The result proves the conjectural formula for this constant proposed in \cite{ILT13}. We also apply the method to non-Fuchsian systems and evaluate constant factors in the asymptotics of Painlevé II tau function.

The categorical form of Fargues' conjecture for tori

Abstract:We prove the main conjecture of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2102.13459" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2102.13459">arXiv:2102.13459</a> for integral coefficients in the case of tori and prove that it is t-exact. Along the way we prove that the spectral action as constructed in that manuscript is compatible with the action of the excursion algebra and preserves the grading by $\pi_1(G)_Q$ on both sides. We additionally develop a (non-solidified) version of condensed group (co)homology and show that many constructions from classical group (co)homology extend to that case.

Accessory parameters in conformal mapping: exploiting the isomonodromic tau function for Painlevé VI

Abstract:We present a novel method to solve the accessory parameter problem arising in constructing conformal maps from a canonical simply connected planar region to the interior of a circular arc quadrilateral. The Schwarz–Christoffel accessory parameter problem, relevant when all sides have zero curvature, is also captured within our approach. The method exploits the isomonodromic tau function associated with the Painlevé VI equation. Recently, these tau functions have been shown to be related to certain correlation functions in conformal field theory and asymptotic expansions have been given in terms of tuples of the Young diagrams. After showing how to extract the monodromy data associated with the target domain, we show how a numerical approach based on the known asymptotic expansions can be used to solve the conformal mapping accessory parameter problem. The viability of this new method is demonstrated by explicit examples and we discuss its extension to circular arc polygons with more than four sides.
Conformal Four-Point Integrals: Recursive Structure, Toda Equations and Double Copy

Abstract:We consider conformal four-point Feynman integrals to investigate how much of their mathematical structure in two spacetime dimensions carries over to higher dimensions. In particular, we discuss recursions in the loop order and spacetime dimension. This results e.g. in new expressions for conformal ladder integrals with generic propagator powers in all even dimensions and allows us to lift results on 2d Feynman integrals with underlying Calabi-Yau geometry to higher dimensions. Moreover, we demonstrate that the Basso-Dixon generalizations of these integrals obey different variants of the Toda equations of motion, thus establishing a connection to classical integrability and the family of so-called tau-functions. We then show that all of these integrals can be written in a double copy form that combines holomorphic and anti-holomorphic building blocks. Here integrals in higher dimensions are constructed from an intersection pairing of two-dimensional "periods" together with their derivatives. Finally, we comment on extensions to higher-point integrals which provide a richer kinematical setup.

Abstract:We study the conformal classes of 2-dimensional Lorentzian tori with (non zero) Killing fields. We define a map that associate to such a class a vector field on the circle (up to a scalar factor). This map is not injective but has finite dimensional fiber. It allows us to characterize the conformal classes of tori with Killing field satisfying a condition related to the existence of conjugate points given by L. Mehidi.

Abstract:Conformal field theory and its axiomatisation in terms of vertex operator algebras or chiral algebras are most commonly considered on the Riemann sphere. However, an important constraint in physics and an interesting source of mathematics is the fact that conformal field theories are expected to be well defined on any Riemann surface. To this end, a thorough understanding of chiral torus 1-point functions, ideally including explicit formulae, is a prerequisite for a detailed understanding of higher genera. These are distinguished from characters or vacuum torus 1-point functions because the insertion point is explicitly allowed to be labelled by any module over the vertex operator algebra rather than just the vertex operator algebra itself.
