Abstract:We note that the subpolynomial factor for the $\ell^qL^p$ small cap decoupling constants for the truncated parabola $\mathbb{P}^1=\{(t,t^2):|t|\leq 1\}$ may be controlled by a suitable power of $\log R$. This is achieved by considering a suitable amplitude-dependent wave envelope estimate, as was introduced in a recent paper of Guth and Maldague to demonstrate a small cap decoupling for the $(2+1)$ cone; we demonstrate that the version for $\mathbb{P}^1$ may be taken with a loss controlled by a power of $\log R$ as well.

Abstract:We prove sharp small cap decoupling estimates for the moment curve in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Our formulation of the small caps is motivated by a conjecture about $L^p$ estimates for exponential sums from the small cap decoupling paper of Demeter, Guth, and Wang.

Abstract:We prove a small cap decoupling theorem for the parabola over a general non-Archimedean local field for which $2\neq 0$. We obtain polylogarithmic dependence on the scale parameter $R$ and polynomial dependence in the residue prime, except for the prime 2 for which the polynomial depends on degree. Our constants are fully explicit.

Abstract:We extend previous work on the two-dimensional developable tangent surface to its higher dimensional analogues $\mathfrak{M} \subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$. The approach here similarly applies cylindrical approximate decoupling at its core, albeit in a new format. However, the presence of additional rulings as $n$ increases necessitates a case-by-case analysis, which in itself reveals interesting aspects of the geometry of $\mathfrak{M}$. The contributions of this paper can be viewed as culminating in the optimal $\ell^2(L^p)$ decoupling over Frenet boxes approximating a suitably defined, arbitrarily thin neighborhood of a curve $\phi$.

Abstract:We identify a new way to divide the $\delta$-neighborhood of surfaces $\mathcal{M}\subset\mathbb{R}^3$ into a finitely-overlapping collection of rectangular boxes $S$. We obtain a sharp $(l^2,L^p)$ decoupling estimate using this decomposition, for the sharp range of exponents $2\leq p\leq 4$. Our decoupling inequality leads to new exponential sum estimates where the frequencies lie on surfaces which do not contain a line.

Abstract:For each $d\geq 0$, we prove decoupling inequalities in $\mathbb R^3$ for the graphs of all bivariate polynomials of degree at most $d$ with bounded coefficients, with the decoupling constant depending uniformly in $d$ but not the coefficients of each individual polynomial. As a consequence, we prove a decoupling inequality for (a compact piece of) every smooth surface in $\mathbb{R}^3$, which in particular solves a conjecture of Bourgain, Demeter and Kemp.

Abstract:Abstract. Minimum variance distortionless projection, the so-called Capon method, serves as a powerful and robust data analysis tool when working on various kinds of ill-posed inverse problems. The method has not only successfully been applied to multi-point wave and turbulence studies in the context of space plasma physics, but also is currently being considered as a technique to perform the multipole expansion of planetary magnetic fields from a limited data set, such as Mercury's magnetic field analysis. The practical application and limits of the Capon method are discussed in a rigorous fashion by formulating its linear-algebraic derivation in view of planetary magnetic field studies. Furthermore, the optimization of Capon's method by making use of diagonal loading is considered.
Decoupling inequality for paraboloid under shell type restriction and its application to the periodic Zakharov system

Abstract:In this paper, we establish local well-posedness for the Zakharov system on $\mathbb{T}^d$, $d\ge3$ in a low regularity setting. Our result improves the work of Kishimoto. Moreover, the result is sharp up to $\varepsilon$-loss of regularity when $d=3$ and $d\ge5$ as long as one utilizes the iteration argument. We introduce ideas from recent developments of the Fourier restriction theory. The key element in the proof of our well-posedness result is a new trilinear discrete Fourier restriction estimate involving paraboloid and cone. We prove this trilinear estimate by improving Bourgain--Demeter's range of exponent for the linear decoupling inequality for paraboloid under the constraint that the input space-time function $f$ satisfies ${\rm supp}\, \hat{f} \subset \{ (\xi,\tau) \in \mathbb{R}^{d+1}: 1- \frac1N \le |\xi| \le 1 + \frac1N,\; |\tau - |\xi|^2| \le \frac1{N^{2}} \} $ for large $N\ge1$.

Abstract:We obtain existence of minimizers for the $p$-capacity functional defined with respect to a centrally symmetric anisotropy for $1 < p<\infty$, including the case of a crystalline norm in $\mathbb R^N$. The result is obtained by a characterization of the corresponding subdifferential and it applies for unbounded domains of the form $\mathbb R^N \setminus \overline{\Omega}$ under mild regularity assumptions (Lipschitz-continuous boundary) and no convexity requirements on the bounded domain $\Omega$. If we further assume an interior ball condition (where the Wulff shape plays the role of a ball), then any minimizer is shown to be Lipschitz continuous.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove local Hölder continuity for the spatial gradient of weak solutions to $$u_t - \text{div} (|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u) + \text{P.V.} \int_{\mathbb{R}^n} \frac{|u(x,t) - u(y,t)|^{p-2}(u(x,t)-u(y,t))}{|x-y|^{n+ps}} \ dy = 0.$$ It is easy to see that parabolic quasilinear equations are not scaling invariant and this led to the development of the method of intrinsic scaling by E.DiBenedetto, E.DiBenedetto-Y.Z.Chen, J.Kinnunen-J.Lewis and A.Friedman-E.DiBenedetto. In a very recent paper, <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://C.de" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> Filippis-G.Mingione proved gradient Hölder continuity for mixed local-nonlocal quasilinear elliptic equations and in this paper, we extend this result to the parabolic case. Since we only expect regularity for $\nabla_x u$ in the parabolic setting, it is not clear how to extend the elliptic proof to the parabolic case. In order to overcome this difficulty, we instead follow the ideas developed by T.Kuusi-G.Mingione combined with the novel tail estimates of C.deFilippis-G.Mingione. An advantage of our approach is that we can obtain both $C^{1,\alpha}_x$ regularity as well as $C^{0,1} _x$ potential estimates in one go. Moreover, we do not need to make use of any form of Caccioppoli inequality and instead, the regularity is obtained only through a suitable difference estimate.

A spectral Galerkin exponential Euler time-stepping scheme for parabolic SPDEs on two-dimensional domains with a C2-boundary

Abstract:We consider the numerical approximation of second-order semi-linear parabolic stochastic partial differential equations interpreted in the mild sense which we solve on general two-dimensional domains with a $\mathcal{C}^2$ boundary with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. The equations are driven by Gaussian additive noise, and several Lipschitz-like conditions are imposed on the nonlinear function. We discretize in space with a spectral Galerkin method and in time using an explicit Euler-like scheme. For irregular shapes, the necessary Dirichlet eigenvalues and eigenfunctions are obtained from a boundary integral equation method. This yields a nonlinear eigenvalue problem, which is discretized using a boundary element collocation method and is solved with the Beyn contour integral algorithm. We present an error analysis as well as numerical results on an exemplary asymmetric shape, and point out limitations of the approach.

Decoupling multistep schemes for elliptic-parabolic problems

Abstract:We study the construction and convergence of decoupling multistep schemes of higher order using the backward differentiation formulae for an elliptic-parabolic problem, which includes multiple-network poroelasticity as a special case. These schemes were first introduced in [Altmann, Maier, Unger, BIT Numer. Math., 64:20, 2024], where a convergence proof for the second-order case is presented. Here, we present a slightly modified version of these schemes using a different construction of related time delay systems. We present a novel convergence proof relying on concepts from G-stability applicable for any order and providing a sharper characterization of the required weak coupling condition. The key tool for the convergence analysis is the construction of a weighted norm enabling a telescoping argument for the sum of the errors.
