Abstract:Scattered sequences are a generalization of scattered polynomials. So far, only scattered sequences of order one and two have been constructed. In this paper an infinite family of scattered sequences of order three is obtained. Equivalence issues are also considered.

Abstract:Over the past few decades, there has been extensive research on scattered subspaces, partly because of their link to MRD codes. These subspaces can be characterized using linearized polynomials over finite fields. Within this context, scattered sequences extend the concept of scattered polynomials and can be viewed as geometric equivalents of exceptional MRD codes. Up to now, only scattered sequences of orders one and two have been developed. However, this paper presents an infinite series of exceptional scattered sequences of any order beyond two which correspond to scattered subspaces that cannot be obtained as direct sum of scattered subspaces in smaller dimensions. The paper also addresses equivalence concerns within this framework.

Abstract:Let $1<t<n$ be integers, where $t$ is a divisor of $n$. An R-$q^t$-partially scattered polynomial is a $\mathbb F_q$-linearized polynomial $f$ in $\mathbb F_{q^n}[X]$ that satisfies the condition that for all $x,y\in\mathbb F_{q^n}^*$ such that $x/y\in\mathbb F_{q^t}$, if $f(x)/x=f(y)/y$, then $x/y\in\mathbb F_q$; $f$ is called scattered if this implication holds for all $x,y\in\mathbb F_{q^n}^*$. Two polynomials in $\mathbb F_{q^n}[X]$ are said to be equivalent if their graphs are in the same orbit under the action of the group $\Gamma L(2,q^n)$. For $n>8$ only three families of scattered polynomials in $\mathbb F_{q^n}[X]$ are known: $(i)$~monomials of pseudoregulus type, $(ii)$~binomials of Lunardon-Polverino type, and $(iii)$~a family of quadrinomials defined in [1,10] and extended in [8,13]. In this paper we prove that the polynomial $\varphi_{m,q^J}=X^{q^{J(t-1)}}+X^{q^{J(2t-1)}}+m(X^{q^J}-X^{q^{J(t+1)}})\in\mathbb F_{q^{2t}}[X]$, $q$ odd, $t\ge3$ is R-$q^t$-partially scattered for every value of $m\in\mathbb F_{q^t}^*$ and $J$ coprime with $2t$. Moreover, for every $t>4$ and $q>5$ there exist values of $m$ for which $\varphi_{m,q}$ is scattered and new with respect to the polynomials mentioned in $(i)$, $(ii)$ and $(iii)$ above. The related linear sets are of $\Gamma L$-class at least two.

Abstract:This article investigates integer sequences that partition the sequence into blocks of various lengths - irregular arrays. The main result of the article is explicit formulas for numbering of irregular arrays. A generalization of Cantor diagonal method is proposed. We also define and describe intra-block permutations of natural numbers. Generalizations of reluctant sequences are introduced, namely generalized reluctant sequences and generalized reverse reluctant sequences. Explicit formulas are presented for these sequences. The article provides numerous examples to illustrate all statements.

Abstract:In recent years, several families of scattered polynomials have been investigated in the literature. However, most of them only exist in odd characteristic. In [B. Csajbók, G. Marino and F. Zullo: New maximum scattered linear sets of the projective line, Finite Fields Appl. 54 (2018), 133-150; G. Marino, M. Montanucci and F. Zullo: MRD-codes arising from the trinomial $x^q+x^{q^3}+cx^{q^5}\in\mathbb{F}_{q^6}[x]$, Linear Algebra Appl. 591 (2020), 99-114], the authors proved that the trinomial $f_c(X)=X^{q}+X^{q^{3}}+cX^{q^{5}}$ of $\mathbb{F}_{q^6}[X]$ is scattered under the assumptions that $q$ is odd and $c^2+c=1$. They also explicitly observed that this is false when $q$ is even. In this paper, we provide a different set of conditions on $c$ for which this trinomial is scattered in the case of even $q$. Using tools of algebraic geometry in positive characteristic, we show that when $q$ is even and sufficiently large, there are roughly $q^3$ elements $c \in \mathbb{F}_{q^6}$ such that $f_{c}(X)$ is scattered. Also, we prove that the corresponding MRD-codes and $\mathbb{F}_q$-linear sets of $\mathrm{PG}(1,q^6)$ are not equivalent to the previously known ones.

Abstract:The main aim of the present paper is to study relations between $n$-scrambled tuples and their attraction-adherence properties with respect to various sequences of integers. This extends previous research on relations between chaos in the sense of Li and Yorke and distributional chaos with respect to a given sequence. Moreover, we construct a system which is $n$-distributionally chaotic but not $(n+1)$-chaotic.

Abstract:The significance of multi-variable special polynomials has been identified both in mathematical and applied frameworks. The article aims to focus on a new class of 3-variable Legendre-truncated-exponential-based Sheffer sequences and to investigate their properties by means of Riordan array techniques. The quasi-monomiality of these sequences is studied within the context of Riordan arrays. These sequences are expressed in determinant forms by utilizing the relation between the Sheffer sequences and Riordan arrays. Certain special Sheffer sequences are used to construct the Legendre-truncated-exponential-based Chebyshev polynomials. The same polynomials are used as base to introduce the hybrid classes involving the exponential polynomials and the Euler polynomials of higher order as illustrative examples of the aforementioned general class of polynomials. The shapes are shown and zeros are computed for these sequences by using mathematical software. The main purpose is to demonstrate the advantage of using numerical investigation and computations to discover fascinating pattern of scattering of zeros through graphical representations.

Abstract:Linear second order recursive sequences with arbitrary initial conditions are studied. For sequences with the same parameters a ring and a group is attached, and isomorphisms and homomorphisms are established for related parameters. In the group, called the {\it sequence group}, sequences are identified if they differ by a scalar factor, but not if they differ by a shift, which is the case for the Laxton group. Prime divisors of sequences are studied with the help of the sequence group $\mod p$, which is always cyclic of order $p\pm 1$. Even and odd numbered subsequences are given independent status through the introduction of one rational parameter in place of two integer parameters. This step brings significant simplifications in the algebra. All elements of finite order in Laxton groups and sequence groups are described effectively. A necessary condition is established for a prime $p$ to be a divisor of a sequence: {\it the norm (determinant) of the respective element of the ring must be a quadratic residue $\mod p$}. This leads to an uppers estimate of the set of divisors by a set of prime density $1/2$. Numerical experiments show that the actual density is typically close to $0.35$. A conjecture is formulated that the sets of prime divisors of the even and odd numbered elements are independent for a large family of parameters.

Abstract:The first author recently introduced an integer sequence now numbered A355519 in OEIS. This sequence arose from counting bracket tournaments; its study evokes the analysis of the Catalan triangle (sequence A009766 in OEIS) and the related Catalan numbers, sequence A000108 in OEIS. We therefore introduce a general construction that places these sequences on the same footing and suggests many new integer sequences. We provide code for performing this construction and a lengthy list of examples. This construction determines a function from input sequences to output sequences. Some of the resulting output sequences are in OEIS and others are not.

Abstract:We classify order $3$ linear difference operators over $\mathbb{C}(x)$ that are solvable in terms of lower order difference operators. To prove this result, we introduce the notion of absolute irreducibility for difference modules, and classify modules that are irreducible but not absolutely irreducible by using restricted and induced modules. We also show how restriction and induction give coordinate-free formulations of sectioning and interlacing of sequences.

Abstract:We present a systematic construction of finite element exact sequences with a commuting diagram property for the de Rham complex in one-, two-, and three-space dimensions. We apply the construction in two-space dimensions to rediscover two families of exact sequences for triangles and three for squares, and to uncover one new family of exact sequence for squares and two new families of exact sequences for general polygonal elements. We apply the construction in three-space dimensions to rediscover two families of exact sequences for tetrahedra, three for cubes, and one for prisms, and to uncover four new families of exact sequences for pyramids, three for prisms, and one for cubes.

Intersections of multiplicative translates of $3$-adic Cantor sets II: two infinite families

Abstract:This paper continues the study of the structure of finite intersections of general multiplicative translates $\mathcal{C}(M_1,\ldots,M_n)=\frac{1}{M_1}\Sigma_{3,\bar{2}}\cap\cdots\cap\frac{1}{M_n}\Sigma_{3,\bar{2}}$ for integers $1\leq M_1<\cdots<M_n$, where $\Sigma_{3,\bar{2}}$ denotes the $3$-adic Cantor set. This study was motivated by questions concerning the discrete dynamical system on the $3$-adic integers $\mathbb{Z}_3$ given by multiplication by $2$. The exceptional set $\mathcal{E}(\mathbb{Z}_3)$ is defined to be the set of all elements of $\mathbb{Z}_3$ whose forward orbits under this action intersect the $3$-adic Cantor set $\Sigma_{3,\bar{2}}$ infinitely many times. It is conjectured that it has Hausdorff dimension $0$. Part I showed that upper bounds on the Hausdorff dimension of the exceptional set can be extracted from knowing Hausdorff dimensions of sets of the kind above, in cases where all $M_i$ are powers of $2$. These intersection sets were shown to be fractals whose points have $3$-adic expansions describable by labeled paths in a finite automaton, whose Hausdorff dimension is exactly computable and is of the form $\log_3(\beta)$ where $\beta$ is a real algebraic integer. It gave algorithms for determination of the automaton, and computed examples showing that the dependence of the automaton and the value $\beta$ on the parameters $(M_1,\ldots,M_n)$ is complicated. The present paper studies two new infinite families of examples, illustrating interesting behavior of the automata and of the Hausdorff dimension of the associated fractals. One family has associated automata whose directed graph has a nested sequence of strongly connected components of arbitrarily large depth. The second family leads to an improved upper bound for the Hausdorff dimension of $\mathcal{E}(\mathbb{Z}_3)$ of $\log_3 \phi \approx 0.438018$, where $\phi$ denotes the Golden ratio.

Abstract:Given a partition of \begin{document}$ \mathbb{Z}_N^* $\end{document} into four subsets, we present a generic construction of uncorrelated quaternary sequence pairs of length \begin{document}$ 2N $\end{document} using the interleaved technique based on this partition. By choosing partitions arising from cyclotomic classes of order 4 and 8 over \begin{document}$ \mathbb{Z}_p $\end{document}, we construct uncorrelated quaternary sequence pairs of length \begin{document}$ 2p $\end{document}, which are almost balanced and have low autocorrelation, except at a few positions.

In earlier papers we studied $n$-equivalence classes of ordinals and coloured ordinals. Abstract:Scattered subspaces and $h$-scattered subspaces have been extensively studied in recent decades for both theoretical purposes and their connections to various applications. While numerous constructions of scattered subspaces exist, relatively few are known about $h$-scattered subspaces with $h\geq2$. In this paper, we establish the existence of maximum $2$-scattered $\F_q$-subspaces in $V(r,q^6)$ whenever $r\geq 3$, $r\ne 5$, and $q$ is an odd power of $2$. Additionally, we explore the corresponding MRD codes.

Abstract:In this paper, we present k sequences of Generalized Van der Laan Polynomials and Generalized Perrin Polynomials using Genaralized Fibonacci and Lucas Polynomials. We give some properties of these polynomials. We also obtain generalized order-k Van der Laan Numbers, k sequences of generalized order-k Van der Laan Numbers, generalized order-k Perrin Numbers and k sequences of generalized order-k Perrin Numbers. In addition, we examine the relationship between them.

Abstract:We apply operad theory to enumerative combinatorics in order to count the number of shuffles between series-parallel posets and chains. We work with three types of shuffles, two of them noncommutative, for example a local deck-divider shuffle $A$ between $P$ and $Q$ is a shuffle of the posets in which, on every maximal chain $m\subset A$, the minimum and maximum elements belong to $P$ and no two consecutive points of $Q$ appear consecutively on $m$. The number of local deck-divider shuffles of $P$ and $Q$ differ from the number of local deck-divider shuffles of $Q$ and $P$. The generating functions whose $n$ coefficient counts shuffles between a poset $P$ and $1<2<\cdots<n$ are called shuffle series. We explain how shuffle series are isomorphic to order series as algebras over the operad of series parallel posets. The weak and strict order polynomials are well known in the literature. At the level of generating series, with the theory of sets with a negative number of elements, we introduce a third order series and prove a theorem in the style of Stanley's Reciprocity Theorem compatible with the structure of algebras over the operad of finite posets. We conclude by describing the relationship of our work with the combinatorial properties of the operadic tensor product of free trees operads.

Abstract:A finite subset of the natural numbers is weak-Schreier if $\min S \ge |S|$, strong-Schreier if $\min S>|S|$, and maximal if $\min S = |S|$. Let $M_n$ be the number of weak-Schreier sets with $n$ being the largest element and $(F_n)_{n\geq -1}$ denote the Fibonacci sequence. A finite set is said to be Zeckendorf if it does not contain two consecutive natural numbers. Let $E_n$ be the number of Zeckendorf subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$. It is well-known that $E_n = F_{n+2}$. In this paper, we first show four other ways to generate the Fibonacci sequence from counting Schreier sets. For example, let $C_n$ be the number of weak-Schreier subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$. Then $C_n = F_{n+2}$. To understand why $C_n = E_n$, we provide a bijective mapping to prove the equality directly. Next, we prove linear recurrence relations among the number of Schreier-Zeckendorf sets. Lastly, we discover the Fibonacci sequence by counting the number of subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots, n\}$ such that two consecutive elements in increasing order always differ by an odd number.
Characterization of order structures avoiding three-term arithmetic progressions

Abstract:It is known that the set of all nonnegative integers may be equipped with a total order that is chaotic in the sense that there is no monotone three-term arithmetic progressions. Such chaotic order must be so complicated that the resulting ordered set cannot be order isomorphic to the set of all nonnegative integers or the set of all integers with the standard order. In this paper, we completely characterize order structures of chaotic orders on the set of all nonnegative integers, as well as on the set of all integers and on the set of all rational numbers.
