Abstract:In this paper we give a precise estimate of the discrepancy of a class of uniformly distributed sequences of partitions. Among them we found a large class having low discrepancy (which means of order 1/N. One of them is the Kakutani-Fibonacci sequence.

Abstract:The number of sequences of odd length in strict partitions (denoted as $\mathrm{sol}$), which plays a pivotal role in the first paper of this series, is investigated in different contexts, both new and old. Namely, we first note a direct link between $\mathrm{sol}$ and the $2$-measure of strict partitions when the partition length is given. This notion of $2$-measure of a partition was introduced quite recently by Andrews, Bhattacharjee, and Dastidar. We establish a $q$-series identity in three ways, one of them features a Franklin-type involuion. Secondly, still with this new partition statistic $\mathrm{sol}$ in mind, we revisit Euler's partition theorem through the lens of Sylvester-Bessenrodt. Two new bivariate refinements of Euler's theorem are established, which involve notions such as MacMahon's 2-modular Ferrers diagram, the Durfee side of partitions, and certain alternating index of partitions that we believe is introduced here for the first time.

Abstract:Based on the combinatorial interpretation of the ordered Bell numbers, which count all the ordered partitions of the set $[n]=\{1,2,\dots,n\}$, we introduce the Fibonacci partition as a Fibonacci permutation of its blocks. Then we define the Fibonacci-Fubini numbers that count the total number of Fibonacci partitions of $[n]$. We study the classical properties of this sequence (generating function, explicit and Dobiński-like formula, etc.), we give combinatorial interpretation, and we extensively examine the Fibonacci-Fubini arithmetic triangle. We give some associate linear recurrence sequences, where in some sequences the Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds appear as well.

Abstract:This article investigates integer sequences that partition the sequence into blocks of various lengths - irregular arrays. The main result of the article is explicit formulas for numbering of irregular arrays. A generalization of Cantor diagonal method is proposed. We also define and describe intra-block permutations of natural numbers. Generalizations of reluctant sequences are introduced, namely generalized reluctant sequences and generalized reverse reluctant sequences. Explicit formulas are presented for these sequences. The article provides numerous examples to illustrate all statements.

Abstract:We study statistics of tiles in random incommensurable Kakutani sequences of partitions in $\mathbb{R}^d$. We provide explicit formulas that illustrate the dependence on the combinatorial structure, the volumes of the participating tiles and the entropy of the partitions in the underlying random substitution system. These improve previous results for non-random Kakutani partitions and multiscale substitution tilings, and imply a gap distribution formula for Delone sets associated with multiscale substitution tilings of the real line.

Abstract:In this paper, harkening back to ideas of Hardy and Ramanujan, Mahler and de Bruijn, with the addition of more recent results on the Fibonacci Dirichlet series, we determine the asymptotic number of ways $p_F(n)$ to write an integer as the sum of non-distinct Fibonacci numbers. This appears to be the first such asymptotic result concerning non-distinct partitions over Fibonacci numbers. As well, under weak conditions, we prove analogous results for a general linear recurrences.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of gap sequences for compact sets E ⊂ R , which is a generalization of the gap sequences of compact sets on the real line. We show that if the gap sequences of two fractal sets are not equivalent, then these two sets cannot be Lipschitz equivalent, where the latter fact is usually very hard to verify. Abstract:The classic example of a low-discrepancy sequence in $\mathbb{Z}_p$ is $(x_n) = an+b$ with $a \in \mathbb{Z}_p^x$ and $b \in \mathbb{Z}_p$. Here we address the non-linear case and show that a polynomial $f$ generates a low-discrepancy sequence in $\mathbb{Z}_p$ if and only if it is a permutation polynomial $\mod p$ and $\mod p^2$. By this it is possible to construct non-linear examples of low-discrepancy sequences in $\mathbb{Z}_p$ for all primes $p$. Moreover, we prove a criterion which decides for any given polynomial in $\mathbb{Z}_p$ with $p \in \left\{ 3,5, 7\right\}$ if it generates a low-discrepancy sequence. We also discuss connections to the theories of Poissonian pair correlations and real discrepancy.

Abstract:The discrepancy of a binary string is the maximum (absolute) difference between the number of ones and the number of zeroes over all possible substrings of the given binary string. In this note we determine the minimal discrepancy that a binary de Bruijn sequence of order $n$ can achieve, which is $n$. This was an open problem until now. We give an algorithm that constructs a binary de Bruijn sequence with minimal discrepancy. A slight modification of this algorithm deals with arbitrary alphabets and yields de Bruijn sequences of order $n$ with discrepancy at most $1$ above the trivial lower bound $n$.

Abstract:The Turán inequality, the Laguerre inequality and their m -rd generalizations have been proved to be closely relative with the Laguerre-Pólya class and Riemann hypothesis. Since these two inequalities are equivalent to log-concavity of the discrete sequences, we consider whether their generalizations hold for discrete sequences. Recently, Chen, Jia and Wang proved that the partition function satisfies the Turán inequality of order 2 and thus the 3-rd Jensen polynomials associated with the partition function have only real zeros. Griffin, Ono, Rolen and Zagier proved the n -th Jensen polynomials associated with the Maclaurin coefficients of the function in the Laguerre-Pólya class and the partition function have only real zeros except finite terms. In this paper, we show the Laguerre inequality of order 2 is true for the partition function, the overpartition function, the Bernoulli numbers, the derangement numbers, the Motzkin numbers, the Fine numbers, the Franel numbers and the Domb numbers.

Abstract:Let $\vec{r}=(r_i)_{i=1}^n$ be a sequence of real numbers of length $n$ with sum $s$. Let $s_0=0$ and $s_i=r_1+\ldots +r_i$ for every $i\in\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$. Fluctuation theory is the name given to that part of probability theory which deals with the fluctuations of the partial sums $s_i$. Define $p(\vec{r})$ to be the number of positive sum $s_i$ among $s_1,\ldots,s_n$ and $m(\vec{r})$ to be the smallest index $i$ with $s_i=\max\limits_{0\leq k\leq n}s_k$. An important problem in fluctuation theory is that of showing that in a random path the number of steps on the positive half-line has the same distribution as the index where the maximum is attained for the first time. In this paper, let $\vec{r}_i=(r_i,\ldots,r_n,r_1,\ldots,r_{i-1})$ be the $i$-th cyclic permutation of $\vec{r}$. Abstract:Let denote the space of cusp forms of even integer weight k and level N . We prove an asymptotic for the Petersson trace formula for under an appropriate condition. Using the non-vanishing of a Kloosterman sum involved in the asymptotic, we give a lower bound for discrepancy in the Sato–Tate distribution for levels not divisible by 8. This generalizes a result of Jung and Sardari (Math Ann 378(1–2):513–557, 2020, Theorem 1.6) for squarefree levels. An analogue of the Sato-Tate distribution was obtained by Omar and Mazhouda (Ramanujan J 20(1):81–89, 2009, Theorem 3) for the distribution of eigenvalues where f is a Hecke eigenform and p is a prime number. As an application of the above-mentioned asymptotic, we obtain a sequence of weights such that discrepancy in the analogue distribution obtained in Omar and Mazhouda (Ramanujan J 20(1):81–89, 2009) has a lower bound.

Abstract:Zeckendorf proved that every positive integer has a unique partition as a sum of non-consecutive Fibonacci numbers. We study the difference between the number of summands in the partition of two consecutive integers. In particular, let $L(n)$ be the number of summands in the partition of $n$. We characterize all positive integers such that $L(n) > L(n+1)$, $L(n) < L(n+1)$, and $L(n) = L(n+1)$. Furthermore, we call $n+1$ a peak of $L$ if $L(n) < L(n+1) > L(n+2)$ and a divot of $L$ if $L(n) > L(n+1) < L(n+2)$. We characterize all such peaks and divots of $L$.

Smooth discrepancy and Littlewood's conjecture

Abstract:Given $\boldsymbol{\alpha} \in [0,1]^d$, we estimate the smooth discrepancy of the Kronecker sequence $(n \boldsymbol{\alpha} \,\mathrm{mod}\, 1)_{n\geq 1}$. We find that it can be smaller than the classical discrepancy of $\textbf{any}$ sequence when $d \le 2$, and can even be bounded in the case $d=1$. To achieve this, we establish a novel deterministic analogue of Beck's local-to-global principle (Ann. of Math. 1994), which relates the discrepancy of a Kronecker sequence to multiplicative diophantine approximation. This opens up a new avenue of attack for Littlewood's conjecture.

Abstract:We prove that there is a one to one correspondence between the following three sets: idempotent functions on a set of size $n$, complete exceptional sequences of linear radical square zero Nakayama algebras of rank $n$ and rooted labeled forests with $n$ nodes and height of at most one. Therefore, the number of exceptional sequences is given by the sum $\sum\limits^n_{j=1}\binom{n}{j}j^{n-j}$.

Abstract:Digital Kronecker-sequences are a non-archimedean analog of classical Kronecker-sequences whose construction is based on Laurent series over a finite field. In this paper it is shown that for almost all digital Kronecker-sequences the star discrepancy satisfies DN⁎⩾c(q,s)(logN)sloglogN for infinitely many N∈N, where c(q,s)>0 only depends on the dimension s and on the order q of the underlying finite field, but not on N. This result shows that a corresponding metrical upper bound due to Larcher is up to some loglogN term best possible.
