Abstract:For a prime number $p$ and integer $x$ with $\gcd(x,p)=1$ let $\overline{x}$ denote the multiplicative inverse of $x$ modulo $p.$ In the present paper we are interested in the problem of distribution modulo $p$ of the sequence $$ \overline{x}, \qquad x =1, \ldots, N, $$ and in lower bound estimates for the corresponding exponential sums. As representative examples, we state the following two consequences of the main results. For any fixed $A > 1$ and for any sufficiently large integer $N$ there exists a prime number $p$ with $$ (\log p)^A \asymp N $$ such that $$ \max_{\gcd(a,p)=1}\left|\sum_{x\le N}{\mathbf e}_p(a\overline{x})\right|\gg N. $$ For any fixed positive $\gamma< 1$ there exists a positive constant $c$ such that the following holds: for any sufficiently large integer $N$ there is a prime number $p > N$ such that $$ N > \exp\left(c(\log p\log\log p)^{\gamma/(1+\gamma)}\right) $$ and $$ \max_{\gcd(a,p)=1} \left|\sum_{x\le N}{\mathbf e}_p(a \overline{x})\right|\gg N^{1-\gamma}. $$

Abstract:In this paper, we study the mean value distributions of Dirichlet L-functions at positive integers. We give some explicit formulas for the mean values of products of two and three Dirichlet L-functions at positive integers weighted by Dirichlet characters that involve the Bernoulli functions and Jordan's totient functions. The results presented here are the generalizations of various known formulas.

The modulus corresponding to this sum is a powerful number, i.e., the radical (the product of all prime factors) of the modulus is very small in comparison with the modulus itself on the logarithmic scale. Abstract:We obtain a bounded generation theorem over $\mathcal O/\mathfrak a$, where $\mathcal O$ is the ring of integers of a number field and $\mathfrak a$ a general ideal of $\mathcal O$. This addresses a conjecture of Salehi-Golsefidy. Along the way, we obtain nontrivial bounds for additive character sums over $\mathcal O/\mathcal P^n$ for a prime ideal $\mathcal P$ with the aid of certain sum-product estimates.

Abstract:We prove conjectured formulas for 1π due to Chan and Verrill and related to modular forms for Γ0(6)+3 . These experimental results from Chan and Verrill involve the sequence of Domb numbers and were discovered via the PARI software. A key tool involved in our proofs of Chan and Verrill's conjectures is given by an identity from Rogers derived via three-variable Mahler measures.

Abstract:We provide uniform bounds on mean values of multiplicative functions under very general hypotheses, detecting certain power savings missed in known results in the literature. As an application, we study the distribution of the sum-of-divisors function $\sigma(n)$ in coprime residue classes to moduli $q \le (\log x)^K$, obtaining extensions of results of Śliwa that are uniform in a wide range of $q$ and optimal in various parameters. As a consequence of our results, we obtain that the values of $\sigma(n)$ sampled over $n \le x$ with $\sigma(n)$ coprime to $q$ are asymptotically equidistributed among the coprime residue classes mod $q$, uniformly for odd $q \le (\log x)^K$. On the other hand, if $q$ is even, then equidistribution is restored provided we restrict to inputs $n$ having sufficiently many prime divisors exceeding $q$.

Our arguments use a variety of techniques, including those from additive combinatorics, algebraic number theory and the geometry of numbers. Abstract:We study the existence of products of primes in arithmetic progressions, building on the work of Ramaré and Walker. One of our main results is that if q is a large modulus, then any invertible residue class mod q contains a product of three primes where each prime is at most q6/5+ε . Our arguments use results from a wide range of areas, such as sieve theory or additive combinatorics, and one of our key ingredients, which has not been used in this setting before, is a result by Heath‐Brown on character sums over primes from his paper on Linnik's theorem.
