Abstract:The magnitude for algebras is a generalization of the Euler characteristic. We investigate the magnitude for Nakayama algebras. Using Ringel's resolution quiver, the existence and the value of rational magnitude is given. As a result, we show that the finite global dimension criteria for Nakayama algebras of Madsen and the first author are equivalent.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a Nakayama algebra with $n$ simple modules and a simple module $S$ of even projective dimension $m$. Choose $m$ minimal such that a simple $A$-module with projective dimension $2m$ exists, then we show that the global dimension of $A$ is bounded by $n+m-1$. This gives a combined generalisation of results of Gustafson \cite{Gus} and Madsen \cite{Mad}. In \cite{Bro}, Brown proved that the global dimension of quasi-hereditary Nakayama algebras with $n$ simple modules is bounded by $n$. Using our result on the bounds of global dimensions of Nakayama algebras, we give a short new proof of this result and generalise Brown's result from quasi-hereditary to standardly stratified Nakayama algebras, where the global dimension is replaced with the finitistic dimension.

Abstract:Optimal upper bounds are provided for the dominant dimensions of Nakayama algebras and more generally algebras $A$ with an idempotent $e$ such that there is a minimal faithful injective-projective module $eA$ and such that $eAe$ is a Nakayama algebra. This answers a question of Abrar and proves a conjecture of Yamagata for monomial algebras.

Abstract:In this article, we give a framework for studying the Euler characteristic and its categorification of objects across several areas of geometry, topology and combinatorics. That is, the magnitude theory of filtered sets enriched categories. It is a unification of the Euler characteristic of finite categories and it the magnitude of metric spaces, both of which are introduced by Leinster. Our definitions cover a class of metric spaces which is broader than the original ones, so that magnitude (co)weighting of infinite metric spaces can be considered. We give examples of the magnitude from various research areas containing the Poincaré polynomial of ranked posets and the growth function of finitely generated groups. In particular, the magnitude homology gives categorifications of them. We also discuss homotopy invariance of the magnitude homology and its variants. Such a homotopy includes digraph homotopy and r-closeness of Lipschitz maps. As a benefit of our categorical view point, we generalize the notion of Grothendieck fibrations of small categories to our enriched categories, whose restriction to metric spaces is a notion called metric fibration that is initially introduced by Leinster. It is remarkable that the magnitude of such a fibration is a product of those of the fiber and the base. We especially study fibrations of graphs, and give examples of graphs with the same magnitude but are not isomorphic.

Abstract:The main aim of this study is to characterize representation rings and derived representation rings of a class of finite dimensional Hopf algebras constructed from the Nakayama truncated algebras KZ(n)/J(d) with certain constraints. For the representation ring r(K Z(n)/J(d)), we completely determine its generators and the relations of generators via the method of the Pascal triangle. For the derived representation ring dr(K Z(n) / J(2))( i.e., d = 2), we determine its generators and give the relations of generators. For these two aspects, the polynomial characterizations of the representation ring and the derived representation rings are both given. Representation rings are well-known as Green rings from module categories over Hopf algebras. We have studied Green rings in the context of monoidal categories such that representations of Hopf algebras can be investigated through Green rings of various levels from module categories to derived categories from a unified viewpoint. Firstly, as analogues of representation rings of Hopf algebras, we set up so-called Green rings of monoidal categories, and then we list some such categories including module, complex, homotopy, derived and (derived) shift, categories, and the relationship among their corresponding Green rings.

Abstract:The purpose of this thesis is to present certain viewpoints on the geometric representation theory of Nakajima cyclic quiver varieties, in relation to the Maulik-Okounkov stable basis. Our main technical tool is the shuffle algebra, which arises as the K-theoretic Hall algebra of the double cyclic quiver. We prove the isomorphism between the shuffle algebra and the quantum toroidal algebra U_{q,t}(sl_n^^), and identify the quotients of Verma modules for the shuffle algebra with the K-theory groups of Nakajima cyclic quiver varieties, which were studied by Nakajima and Varagnolo-Vasserot. The shuffle algebra viewpoint allows us to construct the universal R-matrix of the quantum toroidal algebra U_{q,t}(sl_n^^), and to factor it in terms of pieces that arise from subalgebras isomorphic to quantum affine groups U_{q}(gl_m^), for various m. This factorization generalizes constructions of Khoroshkin-Tolstoy to the toroidal case, and matches the factorization that Maulik-Okounkov produce via the stable basis in the K-theory of Nakajima quiver varieties. We connect the two pictures by computing formulas for the root generators of U_{q,t}(sl_n^^) acting on the stable basis, which provide a wide extension of Murnaghan-Nakayama and Pieri type rules from combinatorics.

Euler characteristics of affine ADE Nakajima quiver varieties via collapsing fibers

Abstract:We prove a universal substitution formula that compares generating series of Euler characteristics of Nakajima quiver varieties associated with affine ADE diagrams at generic and at certain nongeneric stability conditions via a study of collapsing fibres in the associated variation of GIT map, unifying and generalising earlier results of the last two authors with Némethi and of Nakajima. As a special case, we compute generating series of Euler characteristics of noncommutative Quot schemes of Kleinian orbifolds. In type A and rank 1, we give a second, combinatorial proof of our substitution formula, using torus localisation and partition enumeration. This gives a combinatorial model of the fibers of the variation of GIT map, and also leads to relations between our results and the representation theory of the affine and finite Lie algebras in type A.

Defect Invariant Nakayama Algebras

Abstract:We show that for a given Nakayama algebra $\Theta$, there exist countably many cyclic Nakayama algebras $\Lambda_i$, where $i \in \mathbb{N}$, such that the syzygy filtered algebra of $\Lambda_i$ is isomorphic to $\Theta$ and we describe those algebras $\Lambda_i$. We show, among these algebras, there exists a unique algebra $\Lambda$ where the defects, representing the number of indecomposable injective but not projective modules, remain invariant for both $\Theta$ and $\Lambda$. As an application, we achieve the classification of cyclic Nakayama algebras that are minimal Auslander-Gorenstein and dominant Auslander-regular algebras of global dimension three. Specifically, by using the Auslander-Iyama correspondence, we obtain cluster-tilting objects for certain Nakayama algebras. Additionally, we introduce cosyzygy filtered algebras and show that it is dual of syzygy filtered algebra.

Magnitude homology is a derived functor

Abstract:We prove that the magnitude (co)homology of an enriched category can, under some technical assumptions, be described in terms of derived functors between certain abelian categories. We show how this statement is specified for the cases of quasimetric spaces, finite quasimetric spaces, and finite digraphs. For quasimetric spaces, we define the notion of a distance module over a quasimetric space, define the functor of (co)invariants of a distance module and show that the magnitude (co)homology can be presented via its derived functors. As a corollary we obtain that the magnitude cohomology of a quasimetric space can be presented in terms of Ext functors in the category of distance modules. For finite quasimetric spaces, we show that magnitude (co)homology can be presented in terms of Tor and Ext functors over a certain graded algebra, called the distance algebra of the quasimetric space. For finite digraphs, the distance algebra is a bound quiver algebra. In addition, we show that the magnitude cohomology algebra of a finite quasimetric space can be described as a Yoneda algebra.

Non-piecewise hereditary Nakayama algebras

Abstract:Happel and Seidel gave a classification of piecewise hereditary Nakayama algebras, where the relations are given by some power of the radical. Here we explore what happens for general relations. We develop techniques for showing that a given algebra is not piecewise hereditary, illustrating them on numerous mid-sized examples. Then we observe cases where the property of being non-piecewise hereditary can be extended to other (larger) Nakayama algebras. While a complete classification remains elusive, we are able to identify two types of patterns of relations preventing piecewise heredity, indicating that for large quivers many Nakayama algebras are non-piecewise hereditary.

Quipu quivers and Nakayama algebras with almost separate relations

Abstract:A Nakayama algebra with almost separate relations is one where the overlap between any pair of relations is at most one arrow. In this paper we give a derived equivalence between such Nakayama algebras and path algebras of quivers of a special form known as quipu quivers. Furthermore, we show how this derived equivalence can be used to produce a complete classification of linear Nakayama algebras with almost separate relations. As an application, we include a list of the derived equivalence classes of all Nakayama algebras of length $\leq 8$ with almost separate relations.

On Noetherian algebras, Schur functors and Hemmer-Nakano dimensions

Abstract:Important connections in representation theory arise from resolving a finite-dimensional algebra by an endomorphism algebra of a generator-cogenerator with finite global dimension; for instance, Auslander's correspondence, classical Schur--Weyl duality and Soergel's Struktursatz. Here, the module category of the resolution and the module category of the algebra being resolved are linked via an exact functor known as Schur functor. In this paper, we investigate how to measure the quality of the connection between module categories of (projective) Noetherian algebras, $B$, and module categories of endomorphism algebras of generators-relative cogenerators over $B$ which are split quasi-hereditary Noetherian algebras. In particular, we are interested in finding, if it exists, the highest degree $n$ so that the endomorphism algebra of a generator-cogenerator provides an $n$-faithful cover, in the sense of Rouquier, of $B$. The degree $n$ is known as Hemmer-Nakano dimension of the standard modules. We prove that the Hemmer-Nakano dimension of standard modules with respect to a Schur functor from a split highest weight category over a field to the module category of a finite-dimensional algebra $B$ is bounded above by the number of non-isomorphic simple modules of $B$. We establish methods how to reduce computations of Hemmer-Nakano dimensions in the integral setup to computations of Hemmer-Nakano dimensions over finite-dimensional algebras. This theory allows us to derive results for Schur algebras and the BGG category O in the integral setup from the finite-dimensional case using relative dominant dimension. We exhibit several structural properties of deformations of the blocks of the BGG category O establishing an integral version of Soergel's Struktursatz. We show that deformations of the combinatorial Soergel's functor have better homological properties than the classical one.

Abstract:We study the 3-algebraic structure involved in the recently shown M2-branes worldvolume gauge theories. We first extend an arbitrary finite dimensional 3-algebra into an infinite dimensional 3-algebra by adding a mode number to each generator. A unique central charge in the algebra of gauge transformations appears naturally in this extension. We present an infinite dimensional extended 3-algebra with a general metric and also a different extension with a Lorentzian metric. We then study ordinary finite dimensional 3-algebras with different signatures of the metric, focusing on the cases with a negative eigenvalue and the cases with a zero eigenvalue. In the latter cases we present a new algebra, whose corresponding theory is a decoupled abelian gauge theory together with a free theory with global gauge symmetry, and there is no negative kinetic term from this algebra.
Singularity Categories of Higher Nakayama Algebras

Abstract:For a higher Nakayama algebra $A$ in the sense of Jasso-Külshammer, we show that the singularity category of $A$ is triangulated equivalent to the stable module category of a self-injective higher Nakayama algebra. This generalizes a similar result for usual Nakayama algebras due to Shen. Our proof relies on the existence of $d\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategories in the module category of $A$ and the result of Kvamme that each $d\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory of $A$ induces a $d\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory in its singularity category. Moreover, our result provides many concrete examples of the triangulated Auslander-Iyama correspondence introduced by Jasso-Muro, namely, there is a bijective correspondence between the equivalence classes of the singularity categories of $d$-Nakayama algebras with its basic $d\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting object and the isomorphism classes of self-injective $(d+1)$-Nakayama algebras.

Abstract:We study the geometric significance of Leinster's notion of magnitude for a smooth manifold with boundary of arbitrary dimension, motivated by open questions for the unit disk in $\mathbb{R}^2$. For a large class of distance functions, including embedded submanifolds of Euclidean space and Riemannian manifolds satisfying a technical condition, we show that the magnitude function is well defined for $R\gg 0$ and admits a meromorphic continuation to sectors in $\mathbb{C}$. In the semiclassical limit $R \to \infty$, the magnitude function admits an asymptotic expansion, which determines the volume, surface area and integrals of generalized curvatures. Lower-order terms are computed by black box computer algebra. We initiate the study of magnitude analogues to classical questions in spectral geometry and prove an asymptotic variant of the Leinster-Willerton conjecture.
