Abstract:In this note we prove that the symplectic Frobenius Reciprocity established in the paper "Symplectic Induction, Prequantum Induction and Prequantum Multiplicities" as a set bijection is indeed a diffeological diffeomorphism, as conjectured by its authors Ratiu and Ziegler. The same holds in the prequantum space context.

Abstract:A recent paper [R22] established "Frobenius reciprocity" as a bijection $t$ between certain symplectically reduced spaces (which need not be manifolds), and conjectured: 1°) $t$ is a diffeomorphism when these spaces are endowed with their natural subquotient diffeologies, 2°) $t$ respects the reduced diffeological $2$-forms they may (or might not) carry. In this paper, we prove both this conjecture and a similar one on prequantum reduction, and also give new sufficient conditions for the reduced forms to exist. We stop short of proving that they always exist.

Abstract:Frobenius reciprocity asserts that induction from a subgroup and restriction to it are adjoint functors in categories of unitary G-modules. In the 1980s, Guillemin and Sternberg established a parallel property of Hamiltonian G-spaces, which (as we show) unfortunately fails to mirror the situation where more than one G-module "quantizes" a given Hamiltonian G-space. This paper offers evidence that the situation is remedied by working in the category of prequantum G-spaces, where this ambiguity disappears; there, we define induction and multiplicity spaces and establish Frobenius reciprocity as well as the "induction in stages" property.

Abstract:Alan Weinstein remarked that, working in the framework of diffeology, a construction from Noncommutative Differential Geometry might provide the non-trivial representations required for the geometric quantisation of a symplectic structure which is not integral. In this note we show that the construction we gave with P. Antonini does indeed provide non-trivial representations.

Abstract:We prove that the Newton polygons of Frobenius on the crystalline cohomology of proper smooth varieties satisfy a symmetry that results, in the case of projective smooth varieties, from Poincaré duality and the hard Lefschetz theorem. As a corollary, we deduce that the Betti numbers in odd degrees of any proper smooth variety over a field are even (a consequence of Hodge symmetry in characteristic zero), answering an old question of Serre. Then we give a generalization and a refinement for arbitrary varieties over finite fields, in response to later questions of Serre and of Katz.

Abstract:We give a simple proof that, for a pre-quantized compact symplectic manifold with a Lagrangian torus fibration, its Riemann-Roch number coincides with its number of Bohr-Sommerfeld fibres. This can be viewed as an instance of the "independence of polarization" phenomenon of geometric quantization. The base space for such a fibration acquires a so-called integral-integral affine structure. The proof uses the following simple fact, whose proof is trickier than we expected: on a compact integral-integral affine manifold, the total volume is equal to the number of integer points.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper we introduce new local symbols, which we call 4-function local symbols. We formulate reciprocity laws for them. These reciprocity laws are proven using a new method - multidimensional iterated integrals. Besides providing reciprocity laws for the new 4-function local symbols, the same method works for proving reciprocity laws for the Parshin symbol. Both the new 4-function local symbols and the Parshin symbol can be expressed as a finite product of newly defined bi-local symbols, each of which satisfies a reciprocity law. The K -theoretic variant of the first 4-function local symbol is defined in the Appendix. It differs by a sign from the one defined via iterated integrals. Both the sign and the K -theoretic variant of the 4-function local symbol satisfy reciprocity laws, whose proof is based on Milnor K -theory (see the Appendix). The relation of the 4-function local symbols to the double free loop space of the surface is given by iterated integrals over membranes.
Symmetries of quantization of finite groupoids

Abstract:This paper proves certain facts concerning the equivariance of quantization of pi-finite spaces. We argue that these facts establish an analogy between this quantization procedure and the geometric quantization of a symplectic vector space. Specifically, we observe that symmetries of a given polarization/Lagrangian always induce coherent symmetries of the quantization. On the other hand, symmetries of the entire phase space a priori only induce projective symmetries. For certain three-dimensional theories, this projectivity appears via a twice-categorified analogue of Blattner-Kostant-Sternberg kernels in geometric quantization and the associated integral transforms.

Abstract:General covariance is the cornerstone of Einstein's General Relativity (GR) and implies that any two metrics related by diffeomorphisms are physically equivalent. There are, however, many examples pointing to the fact that this strict statement of general covariance needs refinement. There are a very special (measure-zero) subset of diffeomorphisms, the residual diffeomrphisms, to which one can associate well-defined conserved charges. This would hence render these diffeomorphic geometries physically distinct. We discuss that these symmetries may be appropriately called "symplectic symmetries". Existence of residual diffeomorphisms and sympelctic symmetries can be a quite general feature and not limited to the examples discussed so far in the literature. We propose that, in the context of black holes, these diffeomorphic, but distinct, geometries may be viewed as "symplectic soft hair" on black holes. We comment on how this may remedy black hole microstate problem, which in this context are dubbed as "horizon fluffs".
The Diffeological Čech-de Rham Obstruction

Abstract:Using higher topos theory, we explore the obstruction to the Čech-de Rham map being an isomorphism in each degree for diffeological spaces. In degree 1, we obtain an exact sequence which interprets Iglesias-Zemmour's construction from "Čech-de Rham Bicomplex in Diffeology" in $\infty$-stack cohomology. We obtain new exact sequences in all higher degrees. These exact sequences are constructed using homotopy pullback diagrams that include the $\infty$-stack classifying higher $\mathbb{R}$-bundle gerbes with connection. We also obtain a conceptual and succinct proof that the $\infty$-stack cohomology of the irrational torus $T_K$ for $K \subset \mathbb{R}$ a diffeologically discrete subgroup, agrees with the group cohomology of $K$ with values in $\mathbb{R}$. Finally, for a Lie group $G$, we prove that the groupoid of diffeological principal $G$-bundles with connection one obtains via higher topos theory is equivalent to the groupoid of diffeological principal $G$-bundles with connection defined in Waldorf's "Transgression to Loop Spaces and its Inverse, I".

Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we introduce the notion of "cyclic stratum" of a Frobenius manifold $M$. This is the set of points of the extended manifold $\mathbb C^*\times M$ at which the unit vector field is a cyclic vector for the isomonodromic system defined by the flatness condition of the extended deformed connection. The study of the geometry of the complement of the cyclic stratum is addressed. We show that at points of the cyclic stratum, the isomonodromic system attached to $M$ can be reduced to a scalar differential equation, called the "master differential equation" of $M$. In the case of Frobenius manifolds coming from Gromov-Witten theory, namely quantum cohomologies of smooth projective varieties, such a construction reproduces the notion of quantum differential equation. In the second part of the paper, we introduce two multilinear transforms, called "Borel-Laplace $(\boldsymbol \alpha,\boldsymbol\beta)$-multitransforms", on spaces of Ribenboim formal power series with exponents and coefficients in an arbitrary finite dimensional $\mathbb C$-algebra $A$. When $A$ is specialized to the cohomology of smooth projective varieties, the integral forms of the Borel-Laplace $(\boldsymbol \alpha,\boldsymbol\beta)$-multitransforms are used in order to rephrase the Quantum Lefschetz Theorem. This leads to explicit Mellin-Barnes integral representations of solutions of the quantum differential equations for a wide class of smooth projective varieties, including Fano complete intersections in projective spaces. In the third and final part of the paper, as an application, we show how to use the new analytic tools, introduced in the previous parts, in order to study the quantum differential equations of Hirzebruch surfaces. This finally leads to the proof of Dubrovin Conjecture for all Hirzebruch surfaces.

On a symplectic quantum Howe duality

Abstract:We prove a nonsemisimple quantum version of Howe's duality with the rank 2n symplectic and the rank 2 special linear group acting on the exterior algebra of type C. We also discuss the first steps towards the symplectic analog of harmonic analysis on quantum spheres, give character formulas for various fundamental modules, and construct canonical bases of the exterior algebra.

Abstract:We discuss the quantum Poincaré symmetries of the $\varrho$-Minkowski spacetime, a space characterised by an angular form of noncommutativity. We show that it is possible to give them both a bicrossproduct and a Drinfel'd twist structure. We also obtain a new noncommutative $\star$-product, which is cyclic with respect to the standard integral measure.

Abstract:We review and discuss the role of diffeomorphism symmetry in quantum gravity models. Such models often involve a discretization of the space–time manifold as a regularization method. Generically this leads to a breaking of the symmetries to approximate ones, however there are incidences in which the symmetries are exactly preserved. Both kind of symmetries have to be taken into account in covariant and canonical theories in order to ensure the correct continuum limit. We will sketch how to identify exact and approximate symmetries in the action and how to define a corresponding canonical theory in which such symmetries are reflected as exact and approximate constraints.

Abstract:The Schur functions, a basis for the symmetric polynomials (Sym), encode the irreducible representations of the symmetric group, $\mathfrak{S}_n$, via the Frobenius characteristic map. In 1996, Krob and Thibon defined a quasisymmetric Frobenius map on the representations of $\mathcal{H}_n(0)$, mapping them to the quasisymmetric functions (QSym). Despite the obvious inclusion of Sym in QSym and the close relationship between $\mathfrak{S}_n$ and $\mathcal{H}_n(0)$, there is no known direct link between these two Frobenius characteristic maps and the related representations. We explore three specific situations in which a deformation of an $\mathfrak{S}_n$ action results in a valid $\mathcal{H}_n(0)$ action and gives a quasisymmetric Frobenius characteristic that is equal to the symmetric Frobenius characteristic. We introduce the concept of quasisymmetric compatibility, which formalizes a link between the two maps, and we show it applies to all $\mathfrak{S}_n$-modules.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the Ekeland-Hofer capacities coincide on all star-shaped domain in $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$ with the equivariant symplectic homology capacities defined by the first author and Hutchings, answering a 35 years old question. Along the way, we prove that given a Hamiltonian $H$, the (equivariant) Floer homology of $H$ is chain-complex isomorphic to the Morse homology of the Hamiltonian action functional.

Abstract:In a previous paper (El. J. Combin. 6 (1999), R37), the author generalized Ehrhart's idea of counting lattice points in dilated rational polytopes: Given a rational polytope, that is, a polytope with rational vertices, we use its description as the intersection of halfspaces, which determine the facets of the polytope. Instead of just a single dilation factor, we allow different dilation factors for each of these facets. We proved that, if our polytope is a simplex, the lattice point counts in the interior and closure of such a vector-dilated simplex are quasipolynomials satisfying an Ehrhart-type reciprocity law. This generalizes the classical reciprocity law for rational polytopes. In the present paper we complete the picture by extending this result to general rational polytopes. As a corollary, we also generalize a reciprocity theorem of Stanley.

Abstract:An involutive diffeomorphism $\sigma$ of a connected smooth manifold $M$ is called dissecting if the complement of its fixed point set is not connected. Dissecting involutions on a complete Riemannian manifold are closely related to constructive quantum field theory through the work of Dimock and Jaffe/Ritter on the construction of reflection positive Hilbert spaces. In this article we classify all pairs $(M,\sigma)$, where $M$ is an irreducible symmetric space, not necessarily Riemannian, and $\sigma$ is a dissecting involutive automorphism. In particular, we show that the only irreducible $1$-connected Riemannian symmetric spaces are $S^n$ and $H^n$ with dissecting isometric involutions whose fixed point spaces are $S^{n-1}$ and $H^{n-1}$, respectively.

Abstract:We describe the local and Steenbrink vanishing problems for singular symplectic varieties with isolated singularities. We do this by constructing a morphism $$\mathbb D_X(\underline \Omega_X^{n+p}) \to \underline \Omega_X^{n+p}$$ for a symplectic variety $X$ of dimension $2n$ for $\frac{1}{2}\mathrm{codim}_X(X_{\mathrm{sing}}) < p$, where $\underline \Omega_X^k$ is the $k^{th}$-graded piece of the Du Bois complex and $\mathbb D_X$ is the Grothendieck duality functor. We show this morphism is a quasi-isomorphism when $p = n-1$ and that this symmetry descends to the Hodge filtration on the intersection Hodge module. As applications, we describe the higher Du Bois and higher rational properties for symplectic germs and the cohomology of primitive symplectic 4-folds.

Abstract:By making use of Halperin's local systems over simplicial sets and the model structure of the category of diffeological spaces due to Kihara, we introduce a framework of rational homotopy theory for such smooth spaces with arbitrary fundamental groups. As a consequence, we have an equivalence between the homotopy categories of fibrewise rational diffeological spaces and an algebraic category of minimal local systems elaborated by Gómez-Tato, Halperin and Tanré. In the latter half of this article, a spectral sequence converging to the singular de Rham cohomology of a diffeological adjunction space is constructed with the pullback of relevant local systems. In case of a stratifold obtained by attaching manifolds, the spectral sequence converges to the Souriau--de Rham cohomology algebra of the diffeological space. By using the pullback construction, we also discuss a local system model for a topological homotopy pushout.
