Abstract:In this paper, we provide a characterization of fractional revival between twin vertices in a weighted graph with respect to its adjacency, Laplacian and signless Laplacian matrices. As an application, we characterize fractional revival between apexes of double cones.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the existence of fractional revival on semi-Cayley graphs over finite abelian groups. We give some necessary and sufficient conditions for semi-Cayley graphs over finite abelian groups admitting fractional revival. We also show that integrality is necessary for some semi-Cayley graphs admitting fractional revival. Moreover, we characterize the minimum time when semi-Cayley graphs admit fractional revival. As applications, we give examples of certain Cayley graphs over the generalized dihedral groups and generalized dicyclic groups admitting fractional revival.

Abstract:In this article, we give characterization for existence of quantum fractional revival in unitary Cayley graph utilizing adjacency matrix Hamiltonian. Unitary Cayley graph $X=( Z_n, S)$ is a special graph as connection set $S \subseteq Z_n$ is the collection of coprimes to $n$. Unitary Cayley graph is an integral graph and its adjacency matrix is a circulant one. We prove that quantum fractional revival in unitary Cayley graphs exists only when the number of vertices is even. Number-theoretic and spectral characterizations are given for unitary Cayley graph admitting quantum fractional revival. Quantum fractional revival is analogous to quantum entanglement. It is one of qubit state transfer phenomena useful in communication of quantum information.

Abstract:We develop the theory of pretty good quantum fractional revival in arbitrary sized subsets of a graph, including the theory for fractional cospectrality of subsets of arbitrary size. We use this theory to give conditions under which a magnetic field can induce pretty good fractional revival, and give several examples.

For a lattice graph, we prove the upper and lower estimates for the sum of the first $k$ Dirichlet eigenvalues of the fractional Laplacian, extending the classical results by Li-Yau and Kröger.

Abstract:Nowadays a great attention has been focused on the discrete fractional Laplace operator as the natural counterpart of the continuous one. In this paper, we discretize the fractional Laplace operator $(-\Delta)^{s}$ for an arbitrary finite graph and any positive real number $s$. It is shown that $(-\Delta)^{s}$ can be explicitly represented by eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator $-\Delta$. Moreover, we study its important properties, such as $(-\Delta)^{s}$ converges to $-\Delta$ as $s$ tends to $1$; while $(-\Delta)^{s}$ converges to the identity map as $s$ tends to $0$ on a specific function space. For related problems involving the fractional Laplace operator, we consider the fractional Kazdan-Warner equation and obtain several existence results via variational principles and the method of upper and lower solutions.

Abstract:In their study of the giant component in inhomogeneous random graphs, Bollobás, Janson, and Riordan introduced a class of branching processes parametrized by a possibly unbounded graphon. We prove that two such branching processes have the same distribution if and only if the corresponding graphons are fractionally isomorphic, a notion introduced by Grebík and Rocha. A different class of branching processes was introduced by Hladký, Nachmias, and Tran in relation to uniform spanning trees in finite graphs approximating a given connected graphon. We prove that two such branching processes have the same distribution if and only if the corresponding graphons are fractionally isomorphic up to scalar multiple. Combined with a recent result of Archer and Shalev, this implies that if uniform spanning trees of two dense graphs have a similar local structure, they have a similar scaling limit. As a side result we give a characterization of fractional isomorphism for graphs as well as graphons in terms of their connected components.

On fractional matching extendability of Cayley graphs of Abelian groups

Abstract:Fractional matching extendability is a concept that brings together two widely studied topics in graph theory, namely that of fractional matchings and that of matching extendability. A {\em fractional matching} of a graph $\Gamma$ with edge set $E$ is a function $f$ from $E$ to the real interval $[0,1]$ with the property that for each vertex $v$ of $\Gamma$ the sum of the $f$-values of all the edges incident to $v$ is at most $1$. When this sum equals $1$ for each vertex $v$, the fractional matching is {\em perfect}. A graph of order at least $2t+1$ is {\em fractional $t$-extendable} if it contains a matching of size $t$ and if each such matching $M$ can be extended to a fractional perfect matching in the sense that the corresponding function $f$ assigns the value $1$ to each edge of $M$. In this paper we study fractional matching extendability of Cayley graphs of Abelian groups. We show that with the obvious exceptions of cycles of odd length all connected Cayley graphs of Abelian groups are fractional $1$-extendable and we classify the fractional $2$-extendable Cayley graphs of Abelian groups. This extends the classification of $2$-extendable (in the classical sense) connected Cayley graphs of Abelian groups of even order from 1995 obtained by Chan, Chen and Yu.

Abstract:We study various qualitative and quantitative (global) unique continuation properties for the fractional discrete Laplacian. We show that while the fractional Laplacian enjoys striking rigidity properties in the form of (global) unique continuation properties, the fractional discrete Laplacian does not enjoy these in general. While discretization thus counteracts the strong rigidity properties of the continuum fractional Laplacian, by discussing quantitative forms of unique continuation, we illustrate that these properties can be recovered if exponentially small (in the lattice size) correction terms are added. In particular, this allows us to deduce stability properties for a discrete, linear inverse problem for the fractional Laplacian. We complement these observations with a transference principle and the discussion of these properties on the discrete torus.

Abstract:In this note we introduce some nonlinear extremal nonlocal operators that approximate the, so called, truncated Laplacians. For these operators we construct representation formulas that lead to the construction of what, with an abuse of notation, could be called "fundamental solutions". This, in turn, leads to Liouville type results. The interest is double: on one hand we wish to "understand" what is the right way to define the nonlocal version of the truncated Laplacians, on the other, we introduce nonlocal operators whose nonlocality is on one dimensional lines, and this dramatically changes the prospective, as is quite clear from the results obtained that often differs significantly with the local case or with the case where the nonlocality is diffused. Surprisingly this is true also for operators that approximate the Laplacian.

Abstract:We consider an edge-weighted uniform random graph with a given degree sequence (Repeated Configuration Model) which is a useful approximation for many real-world networks. It has been observed that the vertices which are separated from the rest of the graph by a distance exceeding certain threshold play an important role in determining some global properties of the graph like diameter, flooding time etc., in spite of being statistically rare. We give a convergence result for the distribution of the number of such far-out vertices. We also make a conjecture about how this relates to the longest edge of the minimal spanning tree on the graph under consideration.

Abstract:In this article, we study a class of lattice random variables in the domain of attraction of an $\alpha$-stable random variable with index $\alpha \in (0,2)$ which satisfy a truncated fractional Edgeworth expansion. Our results include studying the class of such fractional Edgeworth expansions under simple operations, providing concrete examples; sharp rates of convergence to an $\alpha$-stable distribution in a local central limit theorem; Green's function expansions; and finally fluctuations of a class of discrete stochastic PDE's driven by the heavy-tailed random walks belonging to the class of fractional Edgeworth expansions.

Abstract:In this paper, we first define a discrete version of the fractional Laplace operator $(-\Delta)^{s}$ through the heat semigroup on a stochastically complete, connected, locally finite graph $G = (V, E, \mu, w)$. Secondly, we define the fractional divergence and give another form of $(-\Delta)^s$. The third point, and the foremost, is the introduction of the fractional Sobolev space $W^{s,2}(V)$, which is necessary when we study problems involving $(-\Delta)^{s}$. Finally, using the mountain-pass theorem and the Nehari manifold, we obtain multiplicity solutions to a discrete fractional Schrödinger equation on $G$. We caution the readers that though these existence results are well known in the continuous case, the discrete case is quite different.

Regularity and numerical approximation of fractional elliptic differential equations on compact metric graphs

Abstract:The fractional differential equation $L^\beta u = f$ posed on a compact metric graph is considered, where $\beta>0$ and $L = \kappa^2 - \nabla(a\nabla)$ is a second-order elliptic operator equipped with certain vertex conditions and sufficiently smooth and positive coefficients $\kappa, a$. We demonstrate the existence of a unique solution for a general class of vertex conditions and derive the regularity of the solution in the specific case of Kirchhoff vertex conditions. These results are extended to the stochastic setting when $f$ is replaced by Gaussian white noise. For the deterministic and stochastic settings under generalized Kirchhoff vertex conditions, we propose a numerical solution based on a finite element approximation combined with a rational approximation of the fractional power $L^{-\beta}$. For the resulting approximation, the strong error is analyzed in the deterministic case, and the strong mean squared error as well as the $L_2(\Gamma\times \Gamma)$-error of the covariance function of the solution are analyzed in the stochastic setting. Explicit rates of convergences are derived for all cases. Numerical experiments for ${L = \kappa^2 - \Delta, \kappa>0}$ are performed to illustrate the results.

Going to the Other Side via the Resurgent Bridge

Abstract:Using resurgent analysis we offer a novel mathematical perspective on a curious bijection (duality) that has many potential applications ranging from the theory of vertex algebras to the physics of SCFTs in various dimensions, to q-series invariants in low-dimensional topology that arise, e.g. in Vafa-Witten theory and in non-perturbative completion of complex Chern-Simons theory. In particular, we introduce explicit numerical algorithms that efficiently implement this bijection. This bijection is founded on preservation of relations, a fundamental property of resurgent functions. Using resurgent analysis we find new structures and patterns in complex Chern-Simons theory on closed hyperbolic 3-manifolds obtained by surgeries on hyperbolic twist knots. The Borel plane exhibits several intriguing hints of a new form of integrability. An important role in this analysis is played by the twisted Alexander polynomials and the adjoint Reidemeister torsion, which help us determine the Stokes data. The method of singularity elimination enables extraction of geometric data even for very distant Borel singularities, leading to detailed non-perturbative information from perturbative data. We also introduce a new double-scaling limit to probe 0-surgeries from the limiting $r\to\infty$ behavior of 1/r surgeries, and apply it to the family of hyperbolic twist knots.

Asymptotic cycles in fractional generalizations of multidimensional maps

Abstract:In regular dynamics, discrete maps are model presentations of discrete dynamical systems, and they may approximate continuous dynamical systems. Maps are used to investigate general properties of dynamical systems and to model various natural and socioeconomic systems. They are also used in engineering. Many natural and almost all socioeconomic systems possess memory which, in many cases, is power-law-like memory. Generalized fractional maps, in which memory is not exactly the power-law memory but the asymptotically power-law-like memory, are used to model and investigate general properties of these systems. In this paper we extend the definition of the notion of generalized fractional maps of arbitrary positive orders that previously was defined only for maps which, in the case of integer orders, converge to area/volume-preserving maps. Fractional generalizations of H'enon and Lozi maps belong to the newly defined class of generalized fractional maps. We derive the equations which define periodic points in generalized fractional maps. We consider applications of our results to the fractional and fractional difference H'enon and Lozi maps.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the fractional Henon equation with disturbance. Instead of using the conventional extension method of Caffarelli and Silvestre or the method of moving planes in integral forms, we employ a new method to consider the symmetry of the positive solution in the whole space Er and the upper half space R-+(n) respectively. We show that the positive solution is radial symmetric about origin both in the subcritical case and in the critical case. Furthermore, we establish the corresponding Liouville-type theorem in the upper half space R-+(n). We also obtain the symmetry of positive solutions both in the critical case and in the subcritical case in the upper half space R-+(n).

Abstract:Let $G$ be a bipartite planar graph with edges directed from black to white. For each vertex $v$ let $n_v$ be a positive integer. A multiweb in $G$ is a multigraph with multiplicity $n_v$ at vertex $v$. A connection is a choice of linear maps on edges $\Phi=\{\phi_{bw}\}_{bw\in E}$ where $\phi_{bw}\in \mathrm{Hom}({\mathbb R}^{n_b},{\mathbb R}^{n_w})$. Associated to $\Phi$ is a function on multiwebs, the trace $Tr_{\Phi}$. We define an associated Kasteleyn matrix $K=K(\Phi)$ in this setting and write $\det K$ as the sum of traces of all multiwebs. This generalizes Kasteleyn's theorem and the result of [Douglas, Kenyon, Shi: Dimers, webs, and local systems, Trans. AMS 2023]. We study connections with positive traces, and define the associated probability measure on multiwebs. By careful choice of connection we can thus encode the "free fermionic" subvarieties for vertex models such as the $6$-vertex model and $20$-vertex models, and in particular give determinantal solutions. We also find for each multiweb system an equivalent scalar system, that is, a planar bipartite graph $H$ and a local measure-preserving mapping from dimer covers of $H$ to multiwebs on $G$. We identify a family of positive connections as those whose scalar versions have positive face weights.

Abstract:A {\it fractional matching} of a graph $G$ is a function $f$ giving each edge a number in $[0,1]$ so that $\sum_{e \in \Gamma(v)} f(e) \le 1$ for each $v\in V(G)$, where $\Gamma(v)$ is the set of edges incident to $v$. The {\it fractional matching number} of $G$, written $\alpha'_*(G)$, is the maximum of $\sum_{e \in E(G)} f(e)$ over all fractional matchings $f$. Let $G$ be an $n$-vertex connected graph with minimum degree $d$, let $\lambda_1(G)$ be the largest eigenvalue of $G$, and let $k$ be a positive integer less than $n$. In this paper, we prove that if $\lambda_1(G) < d\sqrt{1+\frac{2k}{n-k}}$, then $\alpha'_*(G) > \frac{n-k}{2}$. As a result, we prove $\alpha'_*(G) \ge \frac{nd^2}{\lambda_1(G)^2 + d^2}$, we characterize when equality holds in the bound.
