Abstract:Reparametrization of conies can make the parameter as uniform as possible and improve the smoothness at the junction points.The common ways are to use linear rational polynomials or quadratic rational polynomials.In the paper,a cubic rational polynomial is used to reparametrize the conic section,which triples the degree of quadratic rational curve.Experimental results obtained by the parametrization of the circular arcs show that the continuity at the junction point of two circular arcs can reach C3 and the deviation between the parametrization presented in the paper and the arc length parametrization has been reduced about two orders of magnitude,compared with the quadratic rational polynomial parametrization.

Abstract: By using analytic method, we prove that there exist rational curves on compact Hermitian manifolds with positive holomorphic bisectional curvature. It confirms a question of S.-T. Yau. It is well-known that Mori proved in \cite{Mori79} that every compact complex manifold $N$ with $c_1(N)>0$ contains at least one rational curve. However, as a borderline example, we show that the standard Hopf surface $S^1\times S^3$ has a Hermitian metric with non-negative holomorphic bisectional curvature (in particular, $c_1(S^1\times S^3)\geq 0$), but it contains no rational curve.

Abstract:Rational algebraic curves have been intensively studied in the last decades, both from the theoretical and applied point of view. In applications (e.g. level curves, linear homotopy deformation, geometric constructions in computer aided design, etc.), there often appear unknown parameters. It is possible to adjoin these parameters to the coefficient field as transcendental elements. In some particular cases, however, the curve has a different behavior than in the generic situation treated in this way. In this paper, we show when the singularities and thus the (geometric) genus of the curves might change. More precisely, we give a partition of the affine space, where the parameters take values, so that in each subset of the partition the specialized curve is either reducible or its genus is invariant. In particular, we give a Zariski-closed set in the space of parameter values where the genus of the curve under specialization might decrease or the specialized curve gets reducible. For the genus zero case, and for a given rational parametrization, a better description is possible such that the set of parameters where Hilbert's irreducibility theorem does not hold can be isolated, and such that the specialization of the parametrization parametrizes the specialized curve. We conclude the paper by illustrating these results by some concrete applications.

Abstract:We answer some enumerative questions about irreducible rational curves on Hirzebruch surfaces, by combining an idea of Kontsevich with the study of the geometry of certain natural parameter spaces. Our formulas generalize Kontsevich's formula for rational plane curves of given degree.

Abstract:This article explores the connection between radical isogenies and modular curves. Radical isogenies are formulas designed for the computation of chains of isogenies of fixed small degree $N$, introduced by Castryck, Decru, and Vercauteren at Asiacrypt 2020. One significant advantage of radical isogeny formulas over other formulas with a similar purpose is that they eliminate the need to generate a point of order $N$ that generates the kernel of the isogeny. While radical isogeny formulas were originally developed using elliptic curves in Tate normal form, Onuki and Moriya have proposed radical isogeny formulas of degrees $3$ and $4$ on Montgomery curves and attempted to obtain a simpler form of radical isogenies using enhanced elliptic and modular curves. In this article, we translate the original setup of radical isogenies in Tate normal form into the language of modular curves. Additionally, we solve an open problem introduced by Onuki and Moriya regarding radical isogeny formulas on $X_0(N).$

Solving parametric radical equations with depth 2 rigorously using the restriction set method

Abstract:We review the history and previous literature on radical equations and present the rigorous solution theory for radical equations of depth 2, continuing a previous study of radical equations of depth 1. Radical equations of depth 2 are equations where the unknown variable appears under at least one square root and where two steps are needed to eliminate all radicals appearing in the equation. We state and prove theorems for all three equation forms with depth 2 that give the solution set of all real-valued solutions. The theorems are shown via the restriction set method that uses inequality restrictions to decide whether to accept or reject candidate solutions. We distinguish between formal solutions that satisfy the original equation in a formal sense, where we allow some radicals to evaluate to imaginary numbers during verification, and strong solutions, where all radicals evaluate to real numbers during verification. Our theorems explicitly identify the set of all formal solutions and the set of all strong solutions for each equation form. The theory underlying radical equations with depth 2 is richer and more interesting than the theory governing radical equations with depth 1, and some aspects of the theory are not intuitively obvious. It is illustrated with examples of parametric radical equations.

Abstract:In <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1008.3825" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1008.3825">arXiv:1008.3825</a>, Totaro gave examples of a K3 surface such that its automorphism group is not commensurable with an arithmetic group, answering a question of Mazur. We give examples of rational surfaces with the same property. Our examples $Y$ are Looijenga pairs, i.e., there is a connected singular nodal curve $D \subset Y$ such that $K_{Y} + D = 0$.

Three Paths to Rational Curves with Rational Arc Length

Abstract:We solve the so far open problem of constructing all spatial rational curves with rational arc length functions. More precisely, we present three different methods for this construction. The first method adapts a recent approach of (Kalkan et al. 2022) to rational PH curves and requires solving a modestly sized system of linear equations. The second constructs the curve by imposing zero-residue conditions, thus extending ideas of previous papers by (Farouki and Sakkalis 2019) and the authors themselves (Schröcker and Šír 2023). The third method generalizes the dual approach of (Pottmann 1995) from planar to spatial curves. The three methods share the same quaternion based representation in which not only the PH curve but also its arc length function are compactly expressed. We also present a new proof based on the quaternion polynomial factorization theory of the well known characterization of the Pythagorean quadruples.

Abstract:Let $R=K[x,y,z]$. A reduced plane curve $C=V(f)\subset \mathbf P^2$ is $free \ $ if its associated module of tangent derivations $\mathrm{Der}(f)$ is a free $R$-module, or equivalently if the corresponding sheaf $T_ {\mathbf P^2 }(-\log C)$ of vector fields tangent to $C$ splits as a direct sum of line bundles on $\mathbf P^2$. In general, free curves are difficult to find, and in this note, we describe a new method for constructing free curves in $\mathbf P^2$. The key tools in our approach are eigenschemes and pencils of curves, combined with an interpretation of Saito's criterion in this context. Previous constructions typically applied only to curves with quasihomogeneous singularities, which is not necessary in our approach. We illustrate our method by constructing large families of free curves.

In 2007, the second author conjectured that, in a precise sense, if rational points on $X$ are dense enough, then the best rational approximations to $P$ must lie on a curve. Abstract:In this article we introduce generalized projective spaces (Definitions $[2.1, 2.5]$) and prove three main theorems in two different contexts. In the first context we prove, in main Theorem $A$, the surjectivity of the Chinese remainder reduction map associated to the generalized projective space of an ideal with a given factorization into mutually co-maximal ideals each of which is contained in finitely many maximal ideals, using the key concept of choice multiplier hypothesis (Definition $4.11$) which is satisfied. In the second context of surjectivity of the map from $k$-dimensional special linear group to the product of generalized projective spaces of $k$-mutually co-maximal ideals associating the $k$-rows or $k$-columns, we prove remaining two main Theorems $[\Omega,\Sigma]$ under certain conditions either on the ring or on the generalized projective spaces. Finally in the last section we pose open Questions $[9.1, 9.2]$ whose answers in a greater generality is not known.

Computation of symmetries of rational surfaces

Abstract:In this paper we provide, first, a general symbolic algorithm for computing the symmetries of a given rational surface, based on the classical differential invariants of surfaces, i.e. Gauss curvature and mean curvature. In practice, the algorithm works well for sparse parametrizations (e.g. toric surfaces) and PN surfaces. Additionally, we provide a specific, also symbolic algorithm for computing the symmetries of ruled surfaces; this algorithm works extremely well in practice, since the problem is reduced to that of rational space curves, which can be efficiently solved by using existing methods. The algorithm for ruled surfaces is based on the fact, proven in the paper, that every symmetry of a rational surface must also be a symmetry of its line of striction, which is a rational space curve. The algorithms have been implemented in the computer algebra system Maple, and the implementations have been made public; evidence of their performance is given in the paper.

Abstract:Given a smooth curve $C/\mathbb{Q}$ with genus $\geq 2$, we know by Faltings' Theorem that $C(\mathbb{Q})$ is finite. Here we ask the reverse question: given a finite set of rational points $S\subseteq \mathbb{P}^n(\mathbb{Q})$, does there exist a smooth curve $C/\mathbb{Q}$ contained in $\mathbb{P}^n$ such that $C(\mathbb{Q})=S$? We answer this question in the affirmative by providing an effective algorithm for constructing such a curve.

Abstract:We study characteristic classes of hypersurfaces in the complex projective space, with emphasis on secants to rational normal curves. For $Sec_k C\subset \mathbb{P}^{n}$, the secant of $k$ points to a rational normal curve $C\subset \mathbb{P}^n$, we compute the Hilbert series and the topological Euler characteristic. For $n=2r$ and $k=r$, the case when $Sec_r C\subset \mathbb{P}^{2r}$ is a hypersurface, we show that the dual $(Sec_r C)^*$ is isomorphic to the Veronese variety $\nu_2(\mathbb{P}^r)$, from which we obtain, for $Sec_r C$, formulas for the Mather class, the generic Euclidean distance degree and its polar degrees. Furthermore, we present an explicit formula for the topological degree of the gradient map $\phi_r \colon \mathbb{P}^{2r} \dashrightarrow \mathbb{P}^{2r} $ associated with $Sec_r C$, and as a consequence we obtain an affirmative answer for a conjecture by M. Mostafazadehfard and A. Simis: for $r \geq 2$, the hypersurface $Sec_r C\subset \mathbb{P}^{2r}$ is not homaloidal. From computations in particular cases we are led to a conjecture, namely, explicit formulas for the projective degrees of the gradient map $\phi_r$ and the Schwartz-MacPherson class $c_{SM}(Sec_r C)\in A_* \mathbb{P}^{2r}$, for all $r$.
