Abstract:Smooth hypoellipticity for scalar equations is quite well understood presently. On the other hand, much remains to be done for systems and/or at different levels of regularity and in particular for $L^1$-hypoellipticity. In this article we provide some examples and counter-examples.

Abstract:We present a general approach to obtain a weak Harnack inequality for rough hypoellipitic equations, e.g. kinetic equations. The proof is constructive and does not study the commutator structure but rather compares the rough solution with a smooth problem for which the estimates are assumed.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the regularity for viscosity solutions of locally uniformly elliptic equations and obtain a series of interior pointwise $C^{k,\alpha}$ ($k\geq 1$, $0<\alpha<1$) regularity with smallness assumptions on the solution and the right-hand term. As applications, we obtain various interior pointwise regularity for several classical elliptic equations, i.e., the prescribed mean curvature equation, the Monge-Ampère equation, the $k$-Hessian equations, the $k$-Hessian quotient equations and the Lagrangian mean curvature equation. Moreover, the smallness assumptions are necessary in most cases (Remark 2.6, Remark 3.5, Remark 4.7, Remark 5.4 and Remark 6.5).

Abstract:The present article investigates the existence, multiplicity and regularity of weak solutions of problems involving a combination of critical Hartree type nonlinearity along with singular and discontinuous nonlinearity. By applying variational methods and using the notion of generalized gradients for Lipschitz continuous functional, we obtain the existence and the multiplicity of weak solutions for some suitable range of $\lambda$ and $\gamma$. Finally by studying the $L^\infty$-estimates and boundary behavior of weak solutions, we prove their Hölder and Sobolev regularity.

Abstract:Let $-\im\Lie_\T$ (essentially Lie derivative with respect to $\T$, a smooth nowhere zero real vector field) and $P$ be commuting differential operators, respectively of orders 1 and $m\geq 1$, the latter formally normal, both acting on sections of a vector bundle over a closed manifold. It is shown that if $P+(-i\Lie_\T)^m$ is elliptic then the restriction of $-\im\Lie_\T$ to $\Dom\subset \ker P\subset L^2$ yields a selfadjoint operator $-\im\Lie_\T|_\Dom:\Dom\subset\ker P\to \ker P$ with compact resolvent ($\Dom$ is specified carefully). It is also shown that, in the presence of an additional hypothesis on microlocal hypoellipticity of $P$, $-\im\Lie_\T|_\Dom$ is semi-bounded. These results are applied to CR manifolds on which $\T$ acts as an infinitesimal CR transformation which are then shown to yield versions of Kodaira's vanishing theorem.

Abstract:We consider a general class of elliptic equations on hypercomplex manifolds which includes the quaternionic Monge-Ampère equation, the quaternionic Hessian equation and the Monge-Ampère equation for quaternionic $(n-1)$-plurisubharmonic functions. We prove that under suitable assumptions the solutions to these equations on hyperkähler manifolds satisfy a $C^{2,\alpha}$ a priori estimate.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain a series of regularity results for viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear elliptic equations with oblique derivative boundary conditions. In particular, we derive the pointwise C α, C 1,α and C 2,α regularity. As byproducts, we also prove the A–B–P maximum principle, Harnack inequality, uniqueness and solvability of the equations.

Abstract:We show that Lipschitz solutions $u$ of $\mathrm{div}\, G(\nabla u)=0$ in $B_1\subset\mathbb R^2$ are $C^1$, for strictly monotone vector fields $G\in C^0(\mathbb R^2;\mathbb R^2)$ satisfying a mild ellipticity condition. If $G=\nabla F$ for a strictly convex function $F$, and $0\leq \lambda(\xi)\leq \Lambda(\xi)$ are the two eigenvalues of $\nabla^2 F(\xi)$, our assumption is that the set $\lbrace\lambda=0\rbrace \cap \lbrace \Lambda=\infty\rbrace$, where ellipticity degenerates $both$ from below and from above, is finite. This extends results by De Silva and Savin (Duke Math. J. 151, No. 3, p.487-532, 2010), which assumed either that set empty, or the larger set $\lbrace \lambda=0\rbrace$ finite. Our main new input is to transfer estimates in $\lbrace \lambda > 0 \rbrace $ to estimates in $\lbrace \Lambda <\infty\rbrace$ by means of a conjugate equation. When $G$ is not a gradient, the ellipticity assumption needs to be interpreted in a specific way, and we highlight the nontrivial effect of the antisymmetric part of $\nabla G$.

Abstract:In this work we establish a gradient bound and Liouville-type theorems for solutions to Quasi-linear elliptic equations on compact Riemannian Manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. Also, we provide a local splitting theorem when the inequality in the gradient bound becomes equality at some point. Moreover, we prove a Harnack-type inequality and an ABP estimate for the gradient of solutions in domains contained in the manifold.

Abstract:We construct three-parameter families of solutions of hyperbolic differential-difference equations in a half-space with a general shift operator in the free term (or in a nonlocal operator potential). It is proved that the solutions obtained are classical if the real part of the symbol of the corresponding differential-difference operators is positive. Classes of equations for which the indicated condition is satisfied are given.

Abstract:In the present paper, we establish sharp Sobolev estimates for solutions of fully nonlinear parabolic equations, under minimal, asymptotic, assumptions on the governing operator. In particular, we prove that solutions are in Wloc2,1;p$$W^{2,1;p}_{ loc }$$. Our argument unfolds by importing improved regularity from a limiting configuration. In this concrete case, we recur to the recession function associated with F. This machinery allows us to impose conditions solely on the original operator at the infinity of S(d)$$\mathcal {S}(d)$$. From a heuristic viewpoint, integral regularity would be set by the behavior of F at the ends of that space. Moreover, we explore a number of consequences of our findings, and develop some related results; these include a parabolic version of Escauriaza’s exponent, a universal modulus of continuity for the solutions and estimates in p-BMO spaces.

Abstract:Using variational methods, we establish the existence of infinitely many solutions to an elliptic problem driven by a Choquard term and a singular nonlinearity. We further show that if the problem has a positive solution, then it is bounded a.e. in the domain $\Omega$ and is Hölder continuous.

Abstract:For a wide class of nonlinearities f(u) satisfying f(u) > 0 in (0, a) and f(u) < 0 in (alpha, infinity), but not necessarily Lipschitz continuous, we study the quasi-linear equation -Delta(p)u = f(u) in T, u\(partial derivativeT) = 0, where T = {x = (x(1), x(2),...,x(N)) is an element of R-N : x(1) > 0} with N greater than or equal to 2. By using a new approach based on the weak maximum principle, we show that any positive solution on T must be a function of xi only. Under our assumptions, the strong maximum principle does not hold in general and the solution may develop a flat core; our symmetry result allows an easy and precise determination of the flat core.

We present a comprehensive characterization of global solvability and hypoellipticity, providing necessary and sufficient conditions that involve Diophantine conditions and the connectedness of sublevel sets associated with the coefficients of the operator. Furthermore, we recover well‐known results from existing literature and introduce novel contributions.

Abstract:This article gives a fundamental discussion on variable coefficients, self-adjoint, formally partially hypoelliptic differential operators. A generalization of the results to pseudo differential operators, is given in a following article in ArXiv. Close to N. Nilsson "Some estimates for spectral functions connected with formally hypoelliptic differential operators" in Arkiv för matematik ,10, 1972, we give a construction and estimates for a fundamental solution to the operator in a suitable topology. We further give estimates of the corresponding spectral kernel.
