Abstract:We prove an upper bound for the volume of maximal analytic sets on which the generic Lelong number of a closed positive current is positive. As a particular case, we give a uniform upper bound on the volume of the singular locus of an analytic set in terms of its volume on a compact Kahler manifold.

Abstract:Every finite collection of oriented closed geodesics in the modular surface has a canonically associated link in its unit tangent bundle coming from the periodic orbits of the geodesic flow. We study the volume of the associated link complement with respect to its unique complete hyperbolic metric. We provide the first lower volume bound that is linear in terms of the number of distinct exponents in the code words corresponding to the collection of closed geodesics.

Abstract:Consider the solutions $u$ to the elliptic equation $\mathcal{L}(u) = \partial_i(a^{ij}(x) \partial_j u) + b^i(x) \partial_i u + c(x) u= 0$ with $a^{ij}$ assumed only to be Hölder continuous. In this paper we prove an explicit bound for $(n-2)$-dimensional Minkowski estimates of singular set $\mathcal{S}(u) = \{ x \in B_1 : u(x) = |\nabla u(x)| = 0\}$ and critical set $\mathcal{C}(u) \equiv \{ x\in B_{1} : |\nabla u(x)| = 0 \}$ in terms of the bound on doubling index, depending on $c \equiv 0$ or not. Here the Hölder assumption is sharp as it is the weakest condition in order to define the critical set of $u$ according to elliptic estimates. We can also obtain an optimal improvement on Cheeger-Naber-Valtorta's volume estimates on each quantitative stratum $\mathcal{S}^k_{\eta, r}$. The main difficulty in this situation is the lack of monotonicity formula which is essential to the quantitative stratification. In our proof, one key ingredient is a new almost monotonicity formula for doubling index under the Hölder assumption. Another key ingredient is the quantitative uniqueness of tangent maps. It deserves to note that our almost monotonicity is sufficient to address all the difficulties arising from the absence of monotonicity in the analysis of differential equations. We believe the idea could be applied to other relevant study.

Abstract:We study the volumes of transcendental and possibly non-closed Bott-Chern $(1,1)$-classes on an arbitrary compact complex manifold $X$. We show that the latter belongs to the class $\mathcal{C}$ of Fujiki if and only if it has the $\textit{bounded mass property}$ -- i.e., its Monge-Ampère volumes have a uniform upper-bound -- and there exists a closed Bott-Chern class with positive volume. This yields a positive answer to a conjecture of Demailly-Păun-Boucksom. To this end we extend to the hermitian context the notion of non-pluripolar products of currents, allowing for the latter to be merely ${\it quasi}$-${\it closed}$ and ${\it quasi}$-${\it positive}$. We establish a quasi-monotonicity property of Monge-Ampère masses, and moreover show the existence of solutions to degenerate complex Monge-Ampère equations in big classes, together with uniform a priori estimates. This extends to the hermitian context fundamental results of Boucksom-Eyssidieux-Guedj-Zeriahi.

Abstract:We begin a systematic study of the region of possible values of the volumes of Minkowski subset sums of a collection of $M$ compact sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$, which we call the Lyusternik region, and make some first steps towards describing it. Our main result is that a fractional generalization of the Brunn-Minkowski-Lyusternik inequality conjectured by Bobkov et al. (2011) holds in dimension 1. Even though Fradelizi et al. (2016) showed that it fails in general dimension, we show that a variant does hold in any dimension.

Abstract:Fix two positive integers $d\geq3$ and $q$. We give an upper bound for anti-canonical volumes of $d$-dimensional $\frac{1}{q}$-lc toric Fano varieties, which corresponds to an upper bound for the dual normalized volumes of the associated $d$-dimensional $\frac{1}{q}$-lc Fano polytopes. And we also construct examples to show that these upper bounds are optimal. Besides, we provide an optimal upper bound for volumes of $d$-dimensional lattice simplices $S$ such that $\frac{1}{q}S$ has exactly one interior lattice point.

Abstract:We establish a pointwise comparison of two notions of Lelong numbers of plurisubharmonic functions defined on singular complex spaces. This shows a conjecture proposed by Berman-Boucksom-Eyssidieux-Guedj-Zeriahi, affirming that the Demailly-Lelong number can be determined through a combination of intersection numbers given by the divisorial part of the potential and the SNC divisors over a log resolution of the maximal ideal of a given point. We also provide an estimate for quotient singularities and sharp estimates for two-dimensional ADE singularities.

Abstract:We establish a general principle that any lower bound on the non-vanishing of central $L$-values obtained through studying the one-level density of low-lying zeros can be refined to show that most such $L$-values have the typical size conjectured by Keating and Snaith. We illustrate this technique in the case of quadratic twists of a given elliptic curve, and similar results would hold for the many examples studied by Iwaniec, Luo, and Sarnak in their pioneering work on $1$-level densities.

Abstract:We study the numerical characterization of two dimensional hard Lefschetz classes given by the complete intersections of nef classes. In Shenfeld and van Handel's breakthrough work on the characterization of the extremals of the Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality for convex polytopes, they proposed an open question on the algebraic analogue of the characterization. By taking further inspiration from our previous work with Shang on hard Lefschetz theorems for free line bundles, we formulate and refine the conjectural picture more precisely and settle the open question when the collection of nef classes is given by a rearrangement of supercriticality, which in particular includes the big nef collection as a special case. The main results enable us to refine some previous results and study the extremals of Hodge index inequality, and more importantly provide the first series of examples of hard Lefschetz classes of dimension two both in algebraic geometry and analytic geometry, in which one can allow nontrivial augmented base locus and thus drop the semi-ampleness or semi-positivity assumption. As a key ingredient of the numerical characterization, we establish a local Hodge index inequality for Lorentzian polynomials, which is the algebraic analogue of the local Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality obtained by Shenfeld-van Handel for convex polytopes. This result holds in broad contexts, e.g., it holds on a smooth projective variety, on a compact Kähler manifold and on a Lorentzian fan, which contains the Bergman fan of a matroid or polymatroid as a typical example.

Abstract:In this paper we study volumes of moduli spaces of hyperbolic surfaces with geodesic, cusp and cone boundary components. We compute the volumes in some new cases, in particular when there exists a large cone angle. This allows us to give geometric meaning to Mirzakhani's polynomials under substitution of imaginary valued boundary lengths, corresponding to hyperbolic cone angles, and to study the behaviour of the volume under the $2\pi$ limit of a cone angle.

Abstract:In this paper we study a notion of volume for Cartier divisors on arbitrary blow-ups of normal complex algebraic varieties of dimension greater than one, with a distinguished point. We apply this to study a volume for normal isolated singularities, generalizing work on surfaces done by Wahl. Abstract:We provide a lower bound on the volume of the compactified mapping torus of a strongly irreducible end-periodic homeomorphism f. This result, together with work of Field, Kim, Leininger, and Loving, shows that the volume of the compactified mapping torus of f is comparable to the translation length of f on a connected component of the pants graph, extending work of Brock in the finite-type setting on volumes of mapping tori of pseudo-Anosov homeomorphisms.

Abstract:A classic theorem of Kazhdan and Margulis states that for any semisimple Lie group without compact factors, there is a positive lower bound on the covolume of lattices. H. C. Wang's subsequent quantitative analysis showed that the fundamental domain of any lattice contains a ball whose radius depends only on the group itself. A direct consequence is a positive minimum volume for orbifolds modeled on the corresponding symmetric space. However, sharp bounds are known only for hyperbolic orbifolds of dimensions two and three, and recently for quaternionic hyperbolic orbifolds of all dimensions. As in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0911.4712" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0911.4712">arXiv:0911.4712</a> and <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1205.2011" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1205.2011">arXiv:1205.2011</a>, this article combines H. C. Wang's radius estimate with an improved upper sectional curvature bound for a canonical left-invariant metric on a real semisimple Lie group and uses Gunther's volume comparison theorem to deduce an explicit uniform lower volume bound for arbitrary orbifold quotients of a given irreducible symmetric spaces of non-compact type. The numerical bound for the octonionic hyperbolic plane is the first such bound to be given. For (real) hyperbolic orbifolds of dimension greater than three, the bounds are an improvement over what was previously known.
