Abstract:Phenylthio heterocyclic compounds are widely used because of their diverse biological activities and medicinal prospects. Here, a facile method was reported. An arylation of 1,3,4-oxa(thia)diazol-2-thiones reacting with arynes to build C(aryl)-S bonds in the presence of CsF had good yields and excellent selectivity. The reaction was completed in short time without using expensive reagents and catalysts. Present reaction system is an efficient procedure to process phenylthio heterocyclic compounds and reveals a sustainable method and better application prospects in future organic synthesis. Abstract:A general and clean method for the one-pot synthesis of thioamides was investigated using a combination of experiments and quantum chemical calculations. Ester, amide, and elemental sulfur were employed as starting materials and ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) as catalyst. Both alkyl and aryl thioamides with various functional groups were obtained in moderate to good yields. Neither transition metals nor external oxidants were required in this reaction. The catalytic performance of EDTA originates from a stepwise, proton transfer process in which EDTA transports a proton from the benzyl carbon to a sulfur atom. Such a process is concerted by discrete charge transfer such that the associated barrier gets lowered.

Abstract:A mild and efficient method for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted chalcogenophenes is reported. This method involves two steps of reactions via one-pot approach by employing commercially available and cost-effective alkynes and element chalcogen. Further, by using LiNH2 as the promoter and DMSO/EtOH as the solvent, Cu-catalyzed Glaser coupling-cycloaddition processes are dramatically enhanced that a diverse range of chalcogenophenes can be obtained in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. Controlled experiments show that trisulfur radical anion (S3 & sdot;-) is the key intermediate and DMSO/EtOH serves as the hydrogen source, while alcohol may facilitate the transition state. The mild and highly efficient constructions of 2,5-disubstitued thiophenes, selenophenes and tellurophenes are achieved by using a one-pot, two-step protocol that combine Cu-catalyzed Glaser coupling with LiNH2-mediated cycloaddition. And the DMSO/EtOH mixture solvent is found to short the reaction time and improve the reaction yield by promoting the production of S3 & sdot;- and stabilizing the transition state.image

Abstract:A general method for one‐pot synthesis of thioamides is developed through a three‐component reaction involving chlorohydrocarbon, amide and elemental sulfur. Such a strategy does not only avoid residual transition metal in the product but also prevent the generation of C−N coupling by‐product. The latter is prone to be generated when alkane halide and amine are present. With the protocol proposed in this work, both alkyl and aryl thioamides can be obtained in moderate to excellent yields with a high tolerance of various functional groups. External oxidants are not required in the reaction. In addition, the reaction mechanisms are addressed using a combination of controlling experiments and quantum chemical calculations.

Abstract:AbstractFacile syntheses of 2H‐chromenes or 9‐functionalized phenanthrenes under mild conditions in moderate to good yields have been developed. They each involve annulations of arynes with α,β‐unsaturated compounds bearing different electron‐withdrawing groups (EWGs). Depending on the natures of the different EWGs, the reactions proceed by different pathways: enals react with arynes through a tandem [2+2] cycloaddition/thermal electrocyclic ring‐opening/6e‐electrocyclization sequence to afford 2H‐chromenes, whereas acyl‐/ethoxycarbonyl‐/cyano‐substituted styrenes undergo Diels–Alder reactions with arynes followed by aromatization to afford 9‐functionalized phenanthrenes. The scope, limitations, regioselectivities and mechanisms have been studied and are discussed in detail.

Abstract:A simple arylamine-catalyzed Mannich-cyclization cascade reaction was developed for facile synthesis of substituted 2H-benzo[h]chromenes. The notable feature of the process included the efficient generation of ortho-quinone methides (o-QMs) catalyzed by a simple aniline. The mild reaction conditions allowed for a broad spectrum of 1- and 2-naphthols and trans-cinnamaldehydes to engage in the cascade sequence with high efficiency.

Abstract:Comprehensive SummaryA rhodium‐catalyzed denitrogenative carbonylation of 1,2,3‐thiadiazole with alkynes to construct (benzo)thiochromenones is developed. Both terminal and internal alkynes were compatible in this [3+2+1] cycloaddition, affording a broad range of poly‐substituted thiochromenones. Unsymmetrical alkyne substrates exhibited good regioselectivity. It is noteworthy that the present strategy could be used to construct both monocyclic and benzo‐thiochromenones, and it is a novel example of denitrogenative transannulation with CO insertion.

Abstract:A transition-metal-free tandem reaction of β-arylethenesulfonyl fluorides and α-cyano-β-methylenones has been revealed. In the presence of cesium carbonate, 2-arylethenesulfonyl fluorides react with α-cyano-β-methylenones through a tandem Diels-Alder cycloaddition/sulfur (VI) fluoride exchange/elimination process to afford cyclohexadiene, which further undergoes decyanolative aromatization in one-pot to produce 1,3,5-triarylbenzenes in moderate to good yields. In addition, direct oxidative aromatization of cyclohexadiene intermediate will construct 2,4,6-triarylbenzonitriles.

Abstract:An eco-friendly and convenient method is developed herein for the synthesis of S-aryl dithiocarbamates via visible-light-induced SET process of an EDA complex between thianthrenium salt functionalized arenes and dithiocarbamate anions under mild aqueous micellar conditions. This strategy indirectly realizes the method for constructing S-aryl dithiocarbamates through site-selective C−H functionalization of arenes. Most importantly, the reaction proceeded smoothly without addition of any photocatalyst, and the by-product thianthrene is recycled in quantity, ultimately minimizing the production of chemical waste. This protocol provides a promising synthesis candidate for the construction of valuable S-aryl dithiocarbamates, which also opens up a new avenue for micellar photocatalysis.

Abstract:Amine compounds are widely found in natural products, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. We propose a base‐facilitated synthesis method of polysubstituted aromatic amines. A simple, rapid, plateau‐utilization, and highly regioselective non‐in‐situ amination reaction was achieved by using aryl thianthrenium salt as the aryne precursor, and the arylynyl distortion induced by the substituents. This method provides new possibilities for organic synthesis.

Abstract:A concise and efficient cross-coupling synthetic strategy has been developed to construct 2-aryl-4H-thiochromen-4-one derivatives from 2-sulfinyl-thiochromones and arylboronic acids. This reaction proceeds via a catalyst system of Lewis acid and palladium(II) combined with XPhos as an optimal ligand in moderate to good yields. Besides, this flexible methodology provides a wide scope for the synthesis of different functionally substituted thiochromone scaffolds and can be further exploited to construct diverse thioflavone libraries for pharmaceutical research.

Abstract:A tandem Prins/Friedel-Crafts cascade strategy has been developed for the synthesis of hexahydro-2H-benzo[g]chromene derivatives. Under action of equimolecular amount of BF3 etherate, delta,epsilon-unsaturated alcohols and arylacetaldehydes are coupled to form oxocarbenium ion intermediates, which are captured by the alkene moiety through a favored six-membered transition state. The Prins-cyclization resultant tertiary carbenium ions undergo consecutive intramolecular Friedel-Crafts cyclization to create the tricyclic products. This process enables a tandem formation of three new chemical bonds in one single operation with high yields and stereoselectivity in most cases. When cyclic substituents are involved, a variety of spiro derivatives could also be synthesized successfully, which further proved the robustness of this methodology.

Abstract:A facile synthesis of a diverse array of benzo[b]fluorenone derivatives has been developed. The method involves a Cu-0/Selectfluor-catalyzed tandem annulation of 1,6-enynes, which takes place under mild reaction conditions. For tert-butylethynyl-substituted 1,6-enynes, the major reaction pathway was a tandem annulation/C-C-bond-cleavage/fluorination process leading to fluorinated benzo[b]fluorenones as the major products; tert-butyl-substituted benzo[b]fluorenones were obtained as the minor products. For arylethynyl-substituted 1,6-enynes, the substrates underwent tandem annulations to give 5-aryl-substituted benzo[b]fluorenones in moderate to excellent yields. For (trimethylsilyl)ethynyl-substituted 1,6-enynes, the reaction involved a tandem annulation/C-Si-bond-cleavage process to deliver 11H-benzo[b]fluoren-11-ones in moderate yields.

Abstract:Reported is a synthesis of C9-functionalized xanthenes and acridines by a cascade nucleophilic addition-cyclic Michael addition of arynes with ortho-α,β-unsaturated phenols and anilines. The method appears to be most suitable for the synthesis of xanthenes (yields ranging from 70 to 90%, 9 examples) rather than for acridines (around 50% yields, 6 examples). Extension of this method to the synthesis of thioxanthenes may be anticipated.
