Abstract:In this paper we construct an algebraic invariant attached to Galois representations over number fields. This invariant, which we call an Artin symmetric function, lives in a certain ring we introduce called the ring of arithmetic symmetric functions. This ring is built from a family of symmetric functions rings indexed by prime ideals of the base field. We prove many necessary basic results for the ring of arithmetic symmetric functions as well as introduce the analogues of some standard number-theoretic objects in this setting. We prove that the Artin symmetric functions satisfy the same algebraic properties that the Artin L-functions do with respect to induction, inflation, and direct summation of representations. The expansion coefficients of these symmetric functions in different natural bases are shown to be character values of representations of a compact group related to the original Galois group. In the most interesting case, the expansion coefficients into a specialized Hall-Littlewood basis come from new representations built from the original Galois representation using polynomial functors corresponding to modified Hall-Littlewood polynomials. Using a special case of the Satake isomorphism in type GL, as formulated by Macdonald, we show that the Artin symmetric functions yield families of functions in the (finite) global spherical Hecke algebras in type GL which exhibit natural stability properties. We compute the Mellin transforms of these functions and relate them to infinite products of shifted Artin L-functions. We then prove some analytic properties of these Dirichlet series and give an explicit expansion of these series using the Hall-Littlewood polynomial functors.

Abstract:In the last article of this series we will first explain how Artin's reciprocity law for unramified abelian extensions can be formulated with the help of power residue symbols, and then show that, in this case, Artin's reciprocity law was already stated by Bernstein in the case where the base field contains the roots of unity necessary for realizing the Hilbert class field as a Kummer extension. Bernstein's article appeared in 1904, almost 20 years before Artin conjectured his version of the reciprocity law, and seems to have been overlooked completely.

Liftable automorphisms of right-angled Artin groups

Abstract:Given a regular covering map $\varphi:\Lambda \to \Gamma$ of graphs, we investigate the subgroup $\operatorname{LAut}(\varphi)$ of the automorphism group $\operatorname{Aut}(A_\Gamma)$ of the right-angled Artin group $A_\Gamma$. This subgroup comprises all automorphisms that can be lifted to automorphisms of $A_\Lambda$. We first show that $\operatorname{LAut}(\varphi)$ is generated by a finite subset of Laurence's elementary automorphisms. For the subgroup $\operatorname{FAut}(\varphi)$ of $\operatorname{Aut}(A_\Lambda)$, which consists of lifts of automorphisms in $\operatorname{LAut}(\varphi)$, there exists a natural homomorphism $\operatorname{FAut}(\varphi)\to\operatorname{LAut}(\varphi)$ induced by $\varphi$. We then show that the kernel of this homomorphism is virtually a subgroup of the Torelli subgroup $\operatorname{IA}(A_\Lambda)$ and deduce a short exact sequence reminiscent of results from the Birman--Hilden theory for surfaces.

Hecke and Artin monoids and their homomorphisms

Abstract:The aim of the present work is to systematically study homomorphisms of Hecke and Artin monoids and thus to develop their comprehensive theory. Our original motivation was the striking observation that parabolic projections of Hecke monoids respect all parabolic elements. We found other classes of homomorphisms of Hecke monoids with the same property and discovered that many of them lift to homomorphisms of covering Artin monoids with a similar property. It turned out that they belong to a much larger class (in fact, a category) of homomorphisms of Artin monoids, most of which appear to be new.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime number. Let $f$ be a normalized Hecke eigen-cuspform that is non-ordinary at $p$. Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field in which $p$ splits. We study the Artin formalism for the two-variable signed $p$-adic $L$-functions attached to $f$ over $K$. In particular, we give evidence of a prediction made by Castella--Ciperiani--Skinner--Sprung.

Abstract:We generalize Artin-Ihara L-functions for graphs to hypergraphs by exploring several analogous notions, such as (unramified) Galois coverings and Frobenius elements. To a hypergraph $H$, one can naturally associate a bipartite graph $B_H$ encoding incidence relations of $H$. We study Artin-Ihara $L$-functions of hypergraphs $H$ by using Artin-Ihara $L$-functions of associated bipartite graphs $B_H$. As a result, we prove various properties for Artin-Ihara L-functions for hypergraphs. For instance, we prove that the Ihara zeta function of a hypergraph $H$ can be written as a product of Artin-Ihara $L$-functions.

Abstract:The motivation of this paper is to study the natural quiver of an artinian algebra, a new kind of quivers, as a tool independing upon the associated basic algebra. In [5], the notion of the natural quiver of an artinian algebra was introduced and then was used to generalize the Gabriel theorem for non-basic artinian algebras splitting over radicals and non-basic finite dimensional algebras with 2-nilpotent radicals via pseudo path algebras and generalized path algebras respectively. In this paper, firstly we consider the relationship between the natural quiver and the ordinary quiver of a finite dimensional algebra. Secondly, the generalized Gabriel theorem is obtained for radical-graded artinian algebras. Moreover, Gabriel-type algebras are introduced to outline those artinian algebras satisfying the generalized Gabriel theorem here and in [5]. For such algebras, the uniqueness of the related generalized path algebra and quiver holds up to isomorphism in the case when the ideal is admissible. For an artinian algebra, there are two basic algebras, the first is that associated to the algebra itself; the second is that associated to the correspondent generalized path algebra. In the final part, it is shown that for a Gabriel-type artinian algebra, the first basic algebra is a quotient of the second basic algebra. Endomorphisms of Artin groups of type D

Abstract:In this paper we determine a classification of the endomorphisms of the Artin group $A [D_n]$ of type $D_n$ for $n\ge 6$. In particular we determine its automorphism group and its outer automorphism group. We also determine a classification of the homomorphisms from $A[D_n]$ to the Artin group $A [A_{n-1}]$ of type $A_{n-1}$ and a classification of the homomorphisms from $A[A_{n-1}]$ to $A[D_n]$ for $n\ge 6$. We show that any endomorphism of the quotient $A [D_n] / Z (A [D_n])$ lifts to an endomorphism of $A [D_n]$ for $n \ge 4$. We deduce a classification of the endomorphisms of $A [D_n] / Z (A [D_n])$, we determine the automorphism and outer automorphism groups of $A [D_n] / Z (A [D_n])$, and we show that $A [D_n] / Z (A [D_n])$ is co-Hopfian, for $n \ge 6$. The results are algebraic in nature but the proofs are based on topological arguments (curves on surfaces and mapping class groups).

Abstract:In this paper, we study Artinian and Noetherian properties in vector lattices and provide a concrete representation of these spaces. Furthermore, we describe for which Archimedean uniformly complete vector lattices every decreasing sequence of prime ideals is stationary (a property that we refer to as prime Artinian). We also completely characterize the prime ideals in vector lattices of continuous root functions and piecewise polynomials. This is a useful space for studying how having decreasing stationary sequences of prime ideals does not imply having increasing stationary sequences of prime ideals, and vice versa.

We obtain this result by providing a purely algebraic characterisation of large‐type Artin groups (i.e. independent of the presentation graph). As a corollary, we completely describe the Artin groups isomorphic to a given large‐type Artin group, and characterise those large‐type Artin groups that are rigid.

Abstract:In this article, we introduce and study the class of approximately Artinian (Noetherian) C*-algebras, called AR-algebras (AN-algebras), which is a simultaneous generalization of Artinian (Noetherian) C*-algebras and AF-algebras. We study properties such as the ideal property and topological dimension zero for them. In particular, we show that a faithful AR or AN algebra is strongly purely infinite iff it is purely infinite iff it is weakly purely infinite. This extends the Kirchberg's -absorption theorem, and implies that a weakly purely infinite C*-algebra is Noetherian iff every its ideal has a full projection.

On the Artin vanishing theorem for Stein spaces

Abstract:Artin vanishing theorems for Stein spaces refer to the vanishing of some of their (co)homology groups in degrees higher than the dimension. We obtain new positive and negative results concerning Artin vanishing for the cohomology of a Stein space relative to a Runge open subset. We also prove an Artin vanishing theorem for the Gal(C/R)-equivariant cohomology of a Gal(C/R)-equivariant Stein space relative to the fixed locus.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish a new criterion for determining whether an Artin group is subgroup separable (LERF), building upon a criterion introduced in a previous work. Specifically, we prove an Artin group is LERF if and only if it does not contain certain induced subgraphs, thus providing a more direct generalization of the Metaftsis-Raptis criterion for RAAGs. As consequences, we prove an Artin group is ERF if and only if it is a free abelian group and we establish a link between subgroup separability and coherence for Artin groups.

Abstract:We generalize to (certain) Artin groups some results previously known for right-angled Artin groups (RAAGs). First, we generalize a result by Droms, B. Servatius, and H. Servatius, and prove that the derived subgroup of an Artin group is free if and only if the group is coherent. Second, coherent Artin groups over non complete graphs split as free amalgamated products along free abelian subgroups, and we extend to arbitrary Artin groups admitting such a splitting a recent result by Casals-Ruiz and the first author on finitely generated normal subgroups of RAAGs. Finally, we use splittings of even Artin groups of FC-type to generalize results of Minasyan and Osin on acylindrical hyperbolicity of their subgroups.

Abstract:First, we prove an algebraization result for rig-smooth algebras over a general noetherian ring; this positively answers the question raised in [Sta24, Tag 0GAX]. Then we prove a general partial algebraization result in non-archimedean geometry. The result says that we can always algebraize a geometrically reduced affinoid rigid-analytic space in "one direction" in an appropriate sense. As an application of this result, we show the remaining cases of the Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing for affinoid algebras, which were previously conjectured in [BM21, §7]. This allows us to deduce a stronger version of the rigid-analytic Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing Conjecture (see [Han20, Conj. 1.2]) over a field of characteristic 0. Using a completely different set of ideas, we also obtain a weaker version of this conjecture over a field of characteristic p>0.

Abstract:We prove that every right-angled Artin group occurs as a finite-index subgroup of the outer automorphism group of another right-angled Artin group. We furthermore show that the latter group can be chosen in such a way that the quotient is isomorphic to $(\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})^N$ for some $N$. For these, we give explicit constructions using the group of pure symmetric outer automorphisms. Moreover, we need two conditions by Day-Wade and Wade-Brück about when this group is a right-angled Artin group and when it has finite index.
