Abstract:We show every isometric action is quasidiagonal in a strong sense. This shows that reduced crossed products by such actions are quasidiagonal or MF whenever the reduced algebra of the acting group is quasidiagonal or MF.

Abstract:Denote by the set of all quaternions. We are interested in the group , which is a subgroup of quaternionic matrix group and is sometimes called Sp (1, 1). As well known, corresponds to the quaternionic Möbius transformations on the unit ball in . In this article, some similarity invariants on are discussed. Our main result shows that each matrix , which corresponds to an elliptic quaternionic Möbius transformation , could be -similar to a diagonal matrix. Moreover, one can see that each elliptic quaternionic Möbius transformation is quaternionic Möbius conjugate to a bi-rotation, where a bi-rotation means a map for some with .

Abstract:For a strongly connected directed graph $\Lambda$, it is shown that the quantum automorphism group of $\Lambda$ acts isometrically in the sense of D. Goswami et al. on the spectral triple $(C^{\ast}(\Lambda), L^{2}(\Lambda^{\infty},M),D)$ constructed by Farsi et al.. It is also shown that the natural action of $U_{n}^{+}$ is not isometric on the Cuntz algebra $\mathcal{O}_{n}$.

Abstract:We first introduce an invariant index for G-equivariant elliptic differential operators on a locally compact manifold M admitting a proper cocompact action of a locally compact group G. It generalizes the Kawasaki index for orbifolds to the case of proper cocompact actions. Our invariant index is used to show that an analog of the Guillemin–Sternberg geometric quantization conjecture holds if M is symplectic with a Hamiltonian action of G that is proper and cocompact. This essentially solves a conjecture of Hochs and Landsman.

Abstract:Denote by $Sp(k,l)$ the quaternionic symplectic group of signature $(k,l)$. We study the deformation rigidity of the embedding $Sp(k,l) \times Sp(1) \hookrightarrow H$, where $H$ is either $Sp(k+1,l)$ or $Sp(k,l+1)$, this is done by studying a natural non-associative algebra $\mathfrak{m}$ comming from the affine structure of $Sp(1) \backslash H$. We compute the automorphism group of $\mathfrak{m}$ and as a consecuence of this, we are able to compute the isometry group of $Sp(1) \backslash H$ at least up to connected components. Using these results, we obtain a uniqueness result on the structure of $Sp(1) \backslash H$ together with an isometric left $Sp(k,l)$-action and classify its finite volume quotients up to finite coverings. Finally, we classify arbitrary isometric actions of $Sp(k,l)$ into connected, complete, analytic, pseudo-Riemannian manifolds admitting a dense orbit of dimension bounded by $\textrm{dim}(Sp(1) \backslash H)$.

Abstract:In this paper we identify QD(A,B), the quasidiagonal classes in KK_1(A,B), in terms of K_*(A) and K_*(B), and we use these results in various applications. Here is our central result. Theorem: Suppose that A is in the category of separable nuclear C^*-algebras which satisfy the UCT and A is quasidiagonal relative to B. Then there is a natural isomorphism QD(A,B) = Pext (K_*(A), K_*(B))_0 . Thus quasidiagonality of KK-classes is indeed a topological invariant. We give several applications. Finally, we establish a converse to a theorem of Davidson, Herrero, and Salinas, giving conditions under which the quasidiagonality of A/K implies the quasidiagonality of the associated representation of A.

Abstract:We exhibit a variety of groups that act properly and even cocompactly on median graphs (a.k.a. one-skeletons of CAT(0) cube complexes), with quasi-isometric groups that do not admit any proper action on a median graph. This answes a question of Niblo, Sageev and Wise. Our examples are all quasi-isometrically trivial central extensions of certain cubulated groups.

Abstract:We study transitive partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms in dimension 3 preserving a center foliation on which they act quasi-isometrically. We show that the diffeomorphism is up to finite lift and iterate, either a skew-product or a discretised Anosov flow.

Abstract:The rationality problem of two-dimensional purely quasi-monomial actions was solved completely by (Hoshi, Kang and Kitayama, J. Algebra 403 , 363-400, 2014). As a generalization, we solve the rationality problem of two-dimensional quasi-monomial actions under the condition that the actions are defined within the base field. In order to prove the theorem, we give a brief review of the Severi-Brauer variety with some examples and rationality results. We also use a rationality criterion for conic bundles of over non-closed fields.

Minimal compact group actions on C$^*$-algebras with simple fixed point algebras

Abstract:The notion of qausi-product actions of a compact group on a C$^*$-algebra was introduced by Bratteli et al. in their attempt to seek an equivariant analogue of Glimm's characterization of non-type I C$^*$-algebras. We show that a faithful minimal action of a second countable compact group on a separable C$^*$-algebra is quasi-product whenever its fixed point algebra is simple. This was previously known only for compact abelian groups and for profinite groups. Our proof relies on a subfactor technique applied to finite index inclusions of simple C$^*$-algebras in the purely infinite case, and also uses ergodic actions of compact groups in the general case. As an application, we show that if moreover the fixed point algebra is a Kirchberg algebra, such an action is always isometrically shift-absorbing, and hence is classifiable by the equivariant KK-theory due to a recent result of Gabe-Szabó.

Isometric Lie 2-group actions on Riemannian groupoids

Abstract:We study isometric actions of Lie $2$-groups on Riemannian groupoids by exhibiting some of their immediate properties and implications. Firstly, we prove an existence result which allows both to obtain 2-equivariant versions of the Slice Theorem and the Equivariant Tubular Neighborhood Theorem and to construct bi-invariant groupoid metrics on compact Lie $2$-groups. We provide natural examples, transfer some classical constructions and explain how this notion of isometric $2$-action yields a way to develop a 2-equivariant Morse theory on Lie groupoids. Secondly, we give an infinitesimal description of an isometric Lie $2$-group action. We define an algebra of transversal infinitesimal isometries associated to any Riemannian $n$-metric on a Lie groupoid which in turn gives rise to a notion of geometric Killing vector field on a quotient Riemannian stack. If our Riemannian stack is separated then we prove that the algebra formed by such geometric Killing vector fields is always finite dimensional.

New notions of simultaneous diagonalizability of quadratic forms with applications to QCQPs

Abstract:A set of quadratic forms is simultaneously diagonalizable via congruence (SDC) if there exists a basis under which each of the quadratic forms is diagonal. This property appears naturally when analyzing quadratically constrained quadratic programs (QCQPs) and has important implications in this context. This paper extends the reach of the SDC property by studying two new related but weaker notions of simultaneous diagonalizability. Specifically, we say that a set of quadratic forms is almost SDC (ASDC) if it is the limit of SDC sets and d-restricted SDC (d-RSDC) if it is the restriction of an SDC set in up to d-many additional dimensions. Our main contributions are a complete characterization of the ASDC pairs and the nonsingular ASDC triples, as well as a sufficient condition for the 1-RSDC property for pairs of quadratic forms. Surprisingly, we show that every singular pair is ASDC and that almost every pair is 1-RSDC. We accompany our theoretical results with preliminary numerical experiments applying the RSDC property to QCQPs with a single quadratic constraint.

Abstract:We generalize the notion of isoperimetric profiles of finitely generated groups to their actions by measuring the boundary of finite subgraphings of the orbit graphing. We prove that like the classical isoperimetric profiles for groups, decay of the isoperimetric profile for an essentially-free action is equivalent to amenability of the action in the sense of Zimmer.For measure-preserving actions, we relate the isoperimetric profiles of the actions and the group.

Abstract:We show that the categorical action of the shifted q = 0 affine algebra can be used to construct semiorthogonal decomposition on the weight categories. In particular, this construction recovers Kapranov's exceptional collection when the weight categories are the derived categories of coherent sheaves on Grassmannians and n-step partial flag varieties. Finally, as an application, we use this result to construct a semiorthogonal decomposition on the derived categories of coherent sheaves on Grassmannians of a coherent sheaf with homological dimension ≤1 over a smooth projective variety X.

Abstract:The classification of flag-transitive generalised quadrangles is a long-standing open problem at the interface of finite geometry and permutation group theory. Given that all known flag-transitive generalised quadrangles are also point-primitive (up to point-line duality), it is likewise natural to seek a classification of the point-primitive examples. Working towards this aim, we are led to investigate generalised quadrangles that admit a collineation group $G$ preserving a Cartesian product decomposition of the set of points. It is shown that, under a generic assumption on $G$, the number of factors of such a Cartesian product can be at most four. This result is then used to treat various types of primitive and quasiprimitive point actions. In particular, it is shown that $G$ cannot have holomorph compound O'Nan-Scott type. Our arguments also pose purely group-theoretic questions about conjugacy classes in non-Abelian finite simple groups, and about fixities of primitive permutation groups.

Rigidity of convex co-compact diagonal actions

Abstract:Kleiner-Leeb and Quint showed that convex subsets in higher-rank symmetric spaces are very rigid compared to rank 1 symmetric spaces. Motivated by this, we consider convex subsets in products of proper CAT(0) spaces $X_1\times X_2$ and show that for any two convex co-compact actions $\rho_i(\Gamma)$ on $X_i$, where $i=1, 2$, if the diagonal action of $\Gamma$ on $X_1\times X_2$ via $\rho=(\rho_1, \rho_2)$ is also convex co-compact, then under a suitable condition, $\rho_1(\Gamma)$ and $\rho_2(\Gamma)$ have the same marked length spectrum.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a locally compact, $\sigma$-compact, Hausdorff groupoid and $A$ be a separable, $C_0(G^{(0)})$-nuclear, $G$-$C^*$-algebra. We prove the existence of quasi-invariant, completely positive and contractive lifts for equivariant, completely positive and contractive maps from $A$ into a separable, quotient $C^*$-algebra. Along the way, we construct the Busby invariant for $G$-actions.
