Abstract:In this paper, we study syzygies of rational homogeneous varieties. We extend Manivel's result that a $p$-th power of an ample line bundle on a flag variety satisfies Propery $(N_p)$ to many rational homogeneous varieties of type $B$, $C$, $D$, and $G_2$.

Abstract:We give a criterion for slope-stability of the syzygy bundle of a globally generated ample line bundle on a smooth projective variety of Picard number $1$ in terms of Hilbert polynomial. As applications, we prove the stability of syzygy bundles on many varieties, such as smooth Fano or Calabi--Yau complete intersections, hyperkähler varieties of Picard number 1, abelian varieties of Picard number $1$, rational homogeneous varieties of Picard number 1, weak Calabi--Yau varieties of Picard number $1$ of dimension $\leq 4$, and Fano varieties of Picard number $1$ of dimension $\leq5$. Also we prove the semistability of syzygy bundles on hyperkähler varieties.

Abstract:Given a vector bundle $F$ on a variety $X$ and $W\subset H^0(F)$ such that the evaluation map $W\otimes \mathcal{O}_X\to F$ is surjective, its kernel $S_{F,W}$ is called generalized syzygy bundle. Under mild assumptions, we construct a moduli space $\mathcal{G}^0_U$ of simple generalized syzygy bundles, and show that the natural morphism $\alpha$ to the moduli of simple sheaves is a locally closed embedding. If moreover $H^1(X,\mathcal{O}_X)=0$, we find an explicit open subspace $\mathcal{G}^0_V$ of $\mathcal{G}^0_U$ where the restriction of $\alpha$ is an open embedding. In particular, if $\dim X\ge 3$ and $H^1(\mathcal{O}_X)=0$, starting from an ample line bundle (or a simple rigid vector bundle) on $X$ we construct recursively open subspaces of moduli spaces of simple sheaves on $X$ that are smooth, rational, quasiprojective varieties.

Syzygies of general projections of canonical and paracanonical curves

Abstract:Let $X\subset\mathbb{P}^r$ be an integral linearly normal variety and $R=k[x_0,\cdots,x_r]$ the coordinate ring of $\mathbb{P}^r$. It is known that the syzygies of $X$ contain some geometric information. In recent years the syzygies of non-projectively normal varieties or in other words, the projection $X'$ of $X$ away from a linear subspace $W\subset\mathbb{P}^r$, were taken into considerations. Assuming that the coordinate ring of the ambient space that $X'$ lives in is $S$, there are two types of vanishing properties of the Betti diagrams of the projected varieties, the so-called $N_{d,p}^S$ and $\widetilde{N}_{d,p}$. The former one have been widely discussed for general varieties, for example by S. Kwak, Y. Choi and E. Park, while the latter one was discussed by W. Lee and E. Park for curves of very large degree. In this paper I will discuss about the $\widetilde{N}_{d,p}$ properties of the projection of a generic canonical and paracanonical curve away from a generic point and in particular whether they are cut out by quadrics. Some conjectures will be claimed based on the tests on Macaulay2.

Abstract:This is a survey paper on recent work on syzygies of algebraic varieties. We discuss the gonality conjecture on weight-one syzygies of algebraic curves, syzygies of secant varieties of algebraic curves, syzygies of tangent developable surfaces and Green's conjecture on syzygies of canonical curves, and asymptotic syzygies of algebraic varieties. All results considered in this paper were proven using the geometry of symmetric products of algebraic curves.

Abstract:Let $(X,L)$ be a polarized smooth projective variety. For any basepoint-free linear system $\mathcal{L}_{V}$ with $V\subset H^{0}(X,\mathcal{O}_{X}(L))$ we consider the syzygy bundle $M_{V}$ as the kernel of the evaluation map $V\otimes \mathcal{O}_{X}\rightarrow \mathcal{O}_{X}(L)$. The purpose of this article is twofold. First, we assume that $M_{V}$ is $L$-stable and prove that, in a wide family of projective varieties, it represents a smooth point $[M_{V}]$ in the corresponding moduli space $\mathcal{M}$. We compute the dimension of the irreducible component of $\mathcal{M}$ passing through $[M_{V}]$ and whether it is an isolated point. It turns out that the rigidness of $[M_{V}]$ is closely related to the completeness of the linear system $\mathcal{L}_{V}$. In the second part of the paper, we address a question posed by Brenner regarding the stability of $M_{V}$ when $V$ is general enough. We answer this question for a large family of polarizations of $X=\mathbb{P}^{m}\times\mathbb{P}^{n}$.

The Syzygy Matrix and the Differential for Rational Curves in Projective Space

Abstract:In this paper, we study whether a given morphism $f$ from the tangent bundle of $\mathbb{P}^1$ to a balanced vector bundle of degree $(n+1)d$ is induced by the restriction of the tangent bundle $T_{\mathbb{P}^n}$ to a rational curve of degree $d$ in $\mathbb{P}^n$. We propose a conjecture on this problem based on Mathematica computations of some examples and provide computer-assisted proof of the conjecture for certain values of $n$ and $d$.

Abstract:Let be a vector bundle on a smooth projective variety that is Ulrich with respect to the hyperplane section H . In this article, we study the Koszul property of , the slope-semistability of the k -th iterated syzygy bundle for all and rationality of moduli spaces of slope-stable bundles on Del Pezzo surfaces. As a consequence of our study, we show that if X is a Del Pezzo surface of degree , then any Ulrich bundle satisfies the Koszul property and is slope-semistable. We also show that, for infinitely many Chern characters , the corresponding moduli spaces of slope-stable bundles when non-empty, are rational, and thereby produce new evidences for a conjecture of Costa and Miró-Roig. As a consequence, we show that the iterated syzygy bundles of Ulrich bundles are dense in these moduli spaces.

Abstract:We construct explicit dominant, rational morphisms from projective bundles over rational varieties to relevant moduli spaces, showing their unirationality. These constructions work for $U_{r,d,g}$; for all ranks, degrees and genus $2\leq g \leq 9$. Furthermore, the arguments presented also show that a similar conclusion can be made for $U_{r, \mathcal{L}, g}$ for all $r,d$ and unirational $M_g$

Abstract:Motivated by toric geometry, we lift machinery for understanding syzygies of curves in projective space to the setting of products of projective spaces. Using this machinery, we show an analogue of an influential result of Gruson, Peskine, and Lazarsfeld that gives a bound on the regularity of a possibly singular curve given its degree and the dimension of the ambient projective space. To do so, we show new results linking the shape of multigraded resolutions of a sheaf to its regularity region.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the existence problem of Ulrich bundles on a rational homogeneous space $G/P$ of type $B$, $C$ or $D$. We show that if the Picard number of $G/P$ is greater than or equal to $2$, then there are no irreducible homogeneous Ulrich bundles on $G/P$ with respect to the minimal ample class.

Abstract:Sommese has conjectured a classification of smooth projective varieties X containing, as an ample divisor, a P^d-bundle Y over a smooth variety Z. This conjecture is known if d>1, if dim(X)<5, or if Z admits a finite morphism to an Abelian variety. We confirm the conjecture if the Picard rank rho(Z)=1, or if Z is not uniruled. In general we reduce the conjecture to a conjectural characterization of projective space: namely that if W is a smooth projective variety, E is an ample vector bundle on W, and Hom(E, T_W) is non-zero, then W is isomorphic to P^n.

Abstract:We construct rational projective 4-dimensional varieties with the property that certain Lawson homology groups tensored with Q{ \mathbb {Q}} are infinite dimensional Q{\mathbb {Q}}-vector spaces. More generally, for each pair of integers pp and kk, with k≥0k\geq 0, p>0p>0, we find a projective variety YY such that LpH2p+k(Y)L_pH_{2p+k}(Y) is infinitely generated. We also construct two singular rational projective 3-dimensional varieties YY and Y′Y’ with the same homeomorphism type but different Lawson homology groups; specifically, L1H3(Y)L_1H_3(Y) is not isomorphic to L1H3(Y′)L_1H_3(Y’) even up to torsion.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, using a generalization of the notion of Prym variety for covers of projective varieties, we prove a structure theorem for the Mordell–Weil group of abelian varieties over function fields that are twists of abelian varieties by Galois covers of smooth projective varieties. In particular, the results we obtain contribute to the construction of Jacobians of high rank.

Abstract:We introduce equivariant versions of uniform rationality: given an algebraic group G, a G-variety is called G-uniformly rational (resp. G-linearly uniformly rational) if every point has a G-invariant open neighborhood equivariantly isomorphic to a G-invariant open subset of the affine space endowed with a G-action (resp. linear G-action). We establish a criterion for Gm-uniform rationality of affine variety equipped with hyperbolic Gm-action with a unique fixed point, formulated in term of their Altmann-Hausen presentation. We prove the Gm-uniform rationality of Koras-Russel threefolds of the first kind and we also give example of non Gm-uniformly rational but smooth rational Gm-threefold associated to pairs of plane rational curves birationally non equivalent to a union of lines.

Syzygies of canonical ribbons on higher genus curves

Abstract:We study the syzygies of the canonical embedding of a ribbon $\widetilde{C}$ on a curve $C$ of genus $g \geq 1$. We show that the linear series Clifford index and the resolution Clifford index are equal for a general ribbon of arithmetic genus $p_a$ on a general curve of genus $g$ with $p_{a} \geq \operatorname{max}\{3g+7, 6g-4\}$. Among non-general ribbons, the case of split ribbons is particularly interesting. Equality of the two Clifford indices for a split ribbon is related to the gonality conjecture for $C$ and it implies Green's conjecture for all double covers $C'$ of $C$ with $g(C') \geq \textrm{max}\{3g+2, 6g-4\}$. We reduce it to the vanishing of certain Koszul cohomology groups of an auxiliary module of syzygies associated to $C$, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:Let $X\subset\mathbb{P}^{n+e}$ be any $n$-dimensional closed subscheme. We are mainly interested in two notions related to syzygies: one is the property $\mathbf{N}_{d,p}~(d\ge 2, ~p\geq 1)$, which means that $X$ is $d$-regular up to $p$-th step in the minimal free resolution and the other is a new notion $\mathrm{ND}(\ell)$ which generalizes the classical "being nondegenerate" to the condition that requires a general finite linear section not to be contained in any hypersurface of degree $\ell$. First, we introduce condition $\mathrm{ND}(\ell)$ and consider examples and basic properties deduced from the notion. Next we prove sharp upper bounds on the graded Betti numbers of the first non-trivial strand of syzygies, which generalize results in the quadratic case to higher degree case, and provide characterizations for the extremal cases. Further, after regarding some consequences of property $\mathbf{N}_{d,p}$, we characterize the resolution of $X$ to be $d$-linear arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay as having property $\mathbf{N}_{d,e}$ and condition $\mathrm{ND}(d-1)$ at the same time. From this result, we obtain a syzygetic rigidity theorem which suggests a natural generalization of syzygetic rigidity on $2$-regularity due to Eisenbud-Green-Hulek-Popescu to a general $d$-regularity.
