Abstract:In this article, we investigate the stability of syzygy bundles corresponding to ample and globally generated vector bundles on smooth irreducible projective surfaces.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the stability of syzygy bundles of globally generated vector bundles on smooth irreducible projective surfaces. Specifically, the authors explore whether these syzygy bundles are stable under certain conditions. This research is of great significance for understanding when the natural product maps between vector bundles become surjective. For example, given vector bundles \(E\) and \(F\), researchers want to know what the numerical conditions are such that the natural multiplication map
\[ H^0(X, E) \otimes H^0(X, F) \rightarrow H^0(X, E \otimes F) \]
becomes surjective. The stability of the syzygy bundle \(M_E\) plays a crucial role in the understanding of this problem.
The main result in the paper is to prove that under specific assumptions, the syzygy bundle \(M_E\) is \(H\)-stable. These assumptions include:
1. \(E \otimes \mathcal{O}_X(-H)\) is globally generated, and \(\dim_C H^1(X, E \otimes \mathcal{O}_X(-H)) = 0\).
2. If \(W \subseteq E \otimes \mathcal{O}_X(-H)\) generates \(E \otimes \mathcal{O}_X(-H)\), then the natural product map
\[ H^0(X, \mathcal{O}_X(H) \otimes m_x) \otimes W \rightarrow H^0(X, E \otimes m_x) \]
is surjective.
3. \(\dim_C H^0(X, \mathcal{O}_X(H)) \geq \dim_C H^0(C, E|_C) - \text{rank}(E) + 1\).
4. \(M_E|_C\) is semi - stable.
In addition, the paper also proves a corollary, that is, for a smooth complex surface \(X\) and a very ample line bundle \(H\), if \(E\) is an \(H\)-semi - stable and globally generated vector bundle, then for a sufficiently large \(m \gg 0\), the associated syzygy bundle \(M_E(m)\) is \(H\)-stable.
The study of these problems not only helps to understand the geometric properties of vector bundles, but also provides important theoretical support for other related problems in algebraic geometry.
