Abstract:As contributions to the Ramanujan theory of elliptic functions to alternative bases, Li-Chien Shen has developed families of elliptic functions from the hypergeometric functions $F(\tfrac{1}{3}, \tfrac{2}{3}; \tfrac{1}{2} ; \bullet)$ and $F(\tfrac{1}{4}, \tfrac{3}{4}; \tfrac{1}{2} ; \bullet)$. We apply his methods to the hypergeometric function $F(\tfrac{1}{6}, \tfrac{5}{6}; \tfrac{1}{2} ; \bullet)$.

Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we construct mod 2 elliptic genera on manifolds of dimensions 8k+1, 8k+2 by mod 2 index formulas of Dirac operators. They are given by mod 2 modular forms or mod 2 automorphic functions. We also obtain an integral formula for the mod 2 index of the Dirac operator. As a by-product we find topological obstructions to group actions. In the second part, we construct higher elliptic genera and prove some of their rigidity properties under group actions. In the third part we write down characteristic series for all Witten genera by Jacobi theta-functions. The modular property and transformation formulas of elliptic genera then follow easily. We shall also prove that Krichever's genera, which come from integrable systems, can be written as indices of twisted Dirac operators forSU-manifolds. Some general discussions about elliptic genera are given.

Abstract:In this paper, we evaluate in closed forms two families of infinite integrals containing hyperbolic and trigonometric cosine functions in their integrands. We call them Ramanujan-Berndt-type integrals of order four since they initiated the study of similar integrals. We establish explicit evaluations of twelve classes of hyperbolic sums by special values of the Gamma function by two completely different approaches, which extend those sums considered by Xu, Yang, Zhao and the second author previously. We discover the first by refining two results of Ramanujan concerning some q -series. For the second we compare both the Fourier series expansions and the Maclaurin series expansions of a few Jacobi elliptic functions. Furthermore, by contour integrations we convert two families of Ramanujan-Berndt-type integrals of order four to the above hyperbolic sums, all of which can be evaluated in closed forms. We then discover explicit formulas for one of the two families. Moreover, we provide many examples which enable us to formulate a conjectural explicit formula for the other family of the Ramanujan-Berndt-type integrals at the end, and obtain some results on Barnes' multiple zeta function.

Abstract:A special case of an Entry in Part II of Ramanujan's Notebooks is such that 1+15(12)2+19(1⋅32⋅4)2+⋯=Γ4(14)16π2. This formula leads us to consider the higher-order version of the above series given by replacing the squares of normalized central binomial coefficients with fourth powers. Using a Fourier–Legendre expansion introduced in a 2022 article by Cantarini, together with a multiple elliptic integral evaluation conjectured by Wan and proved by Zhou, we prove the very natural extension shown below of Ramanujan's formula: 1+15(12)4+19(1⋅32⋅4)4+⋯=Γ8(14)96π5. Furthermore, and in a closely related way, we show how a main result in an article by Papanikolas et al. concerning a Calabi–Yau threefold is equivalent to the evaluation of a Clebsch–Gordan-type multiple elliptic integral related to the work of Zhou and Brychkov.

Euler Product Asymptotics for $L$-functions of Elliptic Curves

Abstract:Let $E/\mathbb Q$ be an elliptic curve and for each prime $p$, let $N_p$ denote the number of points of $E$ modulo $p$. The original version of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture asserts that $\prod \limits _{p \leq x} \frac{N_p}{p} \sim C (\log x) ^{\text{rank}(E(\mathbb Q))}$ as $x \to \infty$. Goldfeld showed that this conjecture implies both the Riemann Hypothesis for $L(E, s)$ and the modern formulation of the conjecture i.e. that $\text{ord}_{s=1} L(E, s)= \text{rank}(E(\mathbb Q))$. In this paper, we prove that if we let $r=\text{ord} _{s=1}L(E, s)$, then under the assumption of the Riemann Hypothesis for $L(E, s)$, we have that $\prod \limits _{p \leq x} \frac{N_p}{p} \sim C (\log x)^r$ for all $x$ outside a set of finite logarithmic measure. As corollaries, we recover not only Goldfeld's result, but we also prove a result in the direction of the converse. Our method of proof is based on establishing the asymptotic behaviour of partial Euler products of $L(E, s)$ in the right-half of the critical strip.

Abstract:We give a brief account of the key properties of elliptic hypergeometric integrals -- a relatively recently discovered top class of transcendental special functions of hypergeometric type. In particular, we describe an elliptic generalization of Euler's and Selberg's beta integrals, elliptic analogue of the Euler-Gauss hypergeometric function and some multivariable elliptic hypergeometric functions on root systems. The elliptic Fourier transformation and corresponding integral Bailey lemma technique is outlined together with a connection to the star-triangle relation and Coxeter relations for a permutation group. We review also the interpretation of elliptic hypergeometric integrals as superconformal indices of four dimensional supersymmetric quantum field theories and corresponding applications to Seiberg type dualities.

On some values which do not belong to the image of Ramanujan's tau-function

Abstract:Lehmer conjectured that Ramanujan's tau function never vanishes. As a variation of this conjecture, it is proved that \begin{equation*} \tau(n)\neq \pm \ell, \pm 2\ell, \pm 2\ell^2, \end{equation*} where $\ell<100$ is an odd prime, by Balakrishnan, Ono, Craig, Tsai and many people. We have proved that \begin{equation*} \tau(n)\neq \pm \ell, \pm 2\ell, \pm 4\ell, \pm 8\ell \end{equation*} for any $n\geq 1$ except 14 cases, where $\ell<1000$ is an odd prime.

Abstract:By applying the derivative operator to the known identities from hypergeometric series or WZ pairs, we obtain six series associated with harmonic numbers. Specifically, five of them are Ramanujan-like formulas for 1/π and the remaining one contains harmonic numbers of order 2. As conclusions, Sun's four conjectural series are proved.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider elliptic curves induced by rational Diophantine quadruples, i.e. sets of four nonzero rationals such that the product of any two of them plus 1 is a perfect square. We show that for each of the groups $\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z} \times \mathbb{Z}/k\mathbb{Z}$ for $k = 2, 4, 6, 8$, there are infinitely many rational Diophantine quadruples with the property that the induced elliptic curve has this torsion group. We also construct curves with moderately large rank in each of these four cases.

Abstract:A proof of several identities of Ramanujan involving theta functions of level $7$ is given which uses a specific modular function for $\Gamma_1(7)$ and Klein's projective representation of $PSL(2,7)$ into $PSL(3, \mathbb{C})$. Four identities of Berndt and Zhang are derived as algebraic corollaries of the main proof.

Ramanujan-Shen's differential equations for Eisenstein series of level 2

Abstract:Ramanujan (1916) and Shen (1999) discovered differential equations for classical Eisenstein series. Motivated by them, we derive new differential equations for Eisenstein series of level 2 from the second kind of Jacobi theta function. This gives a new characterization of a system of differential equations by Ablowitz-Chakravarty-Hahn (2006), Hahn (2008), Kaneko-Koike (2003), Maier (2011) and Toh (2011). As application, we show some arithmetic results on Ramanujan's tau function.

Abstract:We continue the analysis of the elliptic part of the trace formula initiated in \cite{Altug:2015aa}. In that reference Poisson summation was applied to the elliptic part and the dominant term was analyzed. The main aim of this paper is to study the remaining terms after Poisson summation. We analyze the the Fourier transforms of (smoothed) orbital integrals and obtain exact asymptotic expansions. As an application we recover, using the Arthur-Selberg trace formula, Kuznetsov's result (cf. \cite{Kuznetsov:1980aa}) that the trace of the $p$th Hecke operator on cuspidal automorphic representations is bounded by $p^{\frac14}$.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime and $q=p^r$, $r\geq 1$. For positive integers $n$, let ${_n}G_n[\cdots]_q$ denote McCarthy's $p$-adic hypergeometric functions. In this article, we prove an identity expressing a ${_4}G_4[\cdots]_q$ hypergeometric function as a sum of two ${_2}G_2[\cdots]_q$ hypergeometric functions. This identity generalizes some known identities satisfied by the finite field hypergeometric functions. We also prove a transfomation that relates ${_{n+2}}G_{n+2}[\cdots]_q$ and ${_n}G_n[\cdots]_q$ hypergeometric functions. Next, we express the trace of Frobenius of elliptic curves in terms of special values of ${_4}G_4[\cdots]_q$ and ${_6}G_6[\cdots]_q$ hypergeometric functions. Our results extend the recent works of Tripathi and Meher on the finite field hypergeometric functions to wider classes of primes.
