Abstract:In this paper, we study the rigidity problem on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with constant k-curvature or constant quotient curvature. We prove that such manifolds must have constant sectional curvature under the assumption that the manifolds have positive sectional curvature. The same result is also held on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with totally geodesic boundary.

Abstract:We extend our family rigidity and vanishing theorems in [LiuMaZ] to the Spin c case.In particular, we prove a ^-theory version of the main results of [H], [Liul, Theorem B] for a family of almost complex manifolds.0. Introduction.Let M, B be two compact smooth manifolds, and TT : M -» B be a smooth fibration with compact fibre X.Let TX be the relative tangent bundle.Assume that a compact Lie group G acts fiberwise on M, that is, the action preserves each fiber of TT.Let P be a family of G-equivariant elliptic operators along the fiber X.Then the family index of P, Ind(P), is a well-defined element in K(B) (cf.[AS]) and is a virtual G-representation (cf.[LiuMal]).We denote by (Ind(P)) G £ K(B) the G-invariant part of Ind(P).A family of elliptic operator P is said to be rigid on the equivariant Chern character level with respect to this G-action, if the equivariant Chern character ch 5 (Ind(P)) G H*(B) is independent of g G G. If ch^(Ind(P)) is identically zero for any p, then we say P has vanishing property on the equivariant Chern character level.More generally, we say that P is rigid on the equivariant K-theory level, if Ind(P) = (Ind(P)) G .If this index is identically zero in KG(B), then we say that P has vanishing property on the equivariant K-theory level.To study rigidity and vanishing, we only need to restrict to the case where G = S 1 .From now on we assume G = S 1 .As was remarked in [LiuMaZ], the rigidity and vanishing properties on the Ktheory level are more subtle than that on the Chern character level.The reason is that the Chern character can kill the torsion elements involved in the index bundle.In [LiuMaZ], we proved several rigidity and vanishing theorems on the equivariant If-theory level for elliptic genera.In this paper, we apply the method in [LiuMaZ] to prove rigidity and vanishing theorems on the equivariant if-theory level for Spin c manifolds, as well as for almost complex manifolds.To prove the main results of this paper, to be stated in Section 2.1, we will introduce some shift operators on certain vector bundles over the fixed point set of the circle action, and compare the index bundles after the shift operation.Then we get a recursive relation of these index bundles which will in turn lead us to the final result (cf.[LiuMaZ]).Let us state some of our main results in this paper more explicitly.As was remarked in [LiuMaZ], our method is inspired by the ideas of Taubes [T] and Bott-Taubes [BT].For a complex (resp.real) vector bundle E over M, let / n ,x Sym t (E) = l + tE + t 2 Sym 2 E + • • •, ^'i, A t {E) = l + tE + t 2 A 2 E + ---*

Abstract:Abstract We exhibit examples of slope-stable and modular vector bundles on a hyperkähler manifold of K3$^{[2]}$-type, which move in a 20-dimensional family and study their algebraic properties. These are obtained by performing standard linear algebra constructions on the examples studied by O’Grady of (rigid) modular bundles on the Fano varieties of lines of a general cubic four-fold and the Debarre–Voisin hyperkähler manifold.

Abstract:We classify compact Kähler manifolds with semi-positive holomorphic bisectional and big tangent bundles. We also classify compact complex surfaces with semi-positive tangent bundles and compact complex 3-folds of the form ${\mathbb P}(T^*X)$ whose tangent bundles are nef. Moreover, we show that if X is a Fano manifold such that ${\mathbb P}(T^*X)$ has nef tangent bundle, then $X\cong {\mathbb P}^n$.

Abstract:Suppose that X X is a projective manifold whose tangent bundle T X T_X contains a locally free strictly nef subsheaf. We prove that X X is isomorphic to either a projective space or a projective bundle over a hyperbolic manifold of general type. Moreover, if the fundamental group π 1 ( X ) \pi _1(X) is virtually solvable, then X X is isomorphic to a projective space.

Abstract:We prove that if $G$ is the graph of a connected triangulated $(d-1)$-manifold, for $d\geq 3$, then $G$ is generically globally rigid in $\mathbb R^d$ if and only if it is $(d+1)$-connected and, if $d=3$, $G$ is not planar. The special case $d=3$ verifies a conjecture of Connelly. Our results actually apply to a much larger class of simplicial complexes, namely the circuits of the simplicial matroid. We also give two significant applications of our main theorems. We show that that the characterisation of pseudomanifolds with extremal edge numbers given by the Lower Bound Theorem extends to circuits of the simplicial matroid. We also prove the generic case of a conjecture of Kalai concerning the reconstructability of a polytope from its space of stresses. The proofs of our main results adapt earlier ideas of Fogelsanger and Whiteley to the setting of global rigidity. In particular we verify a special case of Whiteley's vertex splitting conjecture for global rigidity.

Abstract:A sufficient condition,under which a(Z_2)~k-vector bundle over a smooth closed manifold is equivariantly cobordant to zero,is obtained.(Φ,η~n,M~m) denotes the action,the vector bundle and the manifold,respectively. The main result is stated as follows:if(1) all Stiefel-Whitney classes of the tangent bundle to each connected component of the fixed point set F vanish in positive dimension;(2) dim M~m2~k dim F;(3) each p-dimensional part F~p of the fixed point set possesses the linear independence property,then(Φ,η~n,M~m) is equivariantly cobordant to zero.Furthermore,an example is given to show that when dim M~m = 2~k dim F and other two conditions are still satisfied,the vector bundle still may be not equivariantly cobordant to zero.In this case the vector bundle is cobordant to zero if and only if the vector bundle is equivariantly cobordant to zero.

Abstract:We prove that any compact, orientable 3-manifold with empty or incompressible toral boundary is profinitely almost rigid among all compact, orientable, boundary-incompressible 3-manifolds, i.e. the profinite completion of its fundamental group determines its homeomorphism type up to finitely many possibilities. Moreover, the profinite completion of the fundamental group of a mixed 3-manifold, together with the peripheral structure, uniquely determines the homeomorphism type of its Seifert part (i.e. the maximal graph manifold components in the JSJ-decomposition). On the other hand, without assigning the peripheral structure, the profinite completion of a mixed 3- manifold group may not even determine the fundamental group of its Seifert part. The proof is based on JSJ-decomposition.

Abstract:We show that hyperbolic four-punctured $S^2-$bundles over $S^1$ are distinguished by the finite quotients of their fundamental groups among all 3-manifold groups. To do this, we upgrade a result of Liu to show that the topological type of a fiber is detected by the profinite completion of the fundamental group of a fibered hyperbolic 3-manifold.

Abstract:Let X be a compact, Kahler, Calabi-Yau threefold and suppose X ↦X_⇝Xt$X\mapsto \underline{X}\leadsto X_t$ , for t & ISIN;& UDelta;$t\in \Delta$, is a conifold transition obtained by contracting finitely many disjoint (-1,-1)$(-1,-1)$ curves in X and then smoothing the resulting ordinary double point singularities. We show that, for |t|MUCH LESS-THAN1$|t|\ll 1$ sufficiently small, the tangent bundle T1,0Xt$T<^>{1,0}X_{t}$ admits a Hermitian-Yang-Mills metric Ht$H_t$ with respect to the conformally balanced metrics constructed by Fu-Li-Yau. Furthermore, we describe the behavior of Ht$H_t$ near the vanishing cycles of Xt$X_t$ as t & RARR;0$t\rightarrow 0$.
Canonical stability of 3-folds of general type with $p_g\geq 3$

Abstract:We study the canonical stability of a smooth projective 3-fold $V$ of general type. We prove that (1) $|5K_V|$ gives a birational map onto its image provided the geometric genus $p_g\geq 4$; (2) $|6K_V|$ gives a birational map provided $p_g=3$. Known examples show that both are optimal. This fact can be viewed as parallel to surface case, though people know very little on 3-folds of general type with $p_g\leq 1$.

Abstract:Given an ample line bundle L on a K3 surface S, we study the slope stability with respect to L of rank-3 Lazarsfeld-Mukai bundles associated with complete, base point free nets of type g^2_d on curves C in the linear system |L|. When d is large enough and C is general, we obtain a dimensional statement for the variety W^2_d(C). If the Brill-Noether number is negative, we prove that any g^2_d on any smooth, irreducible curve in |L| is contained in a g^r_e which is induced from a line bundle on S, thus answering a conjecture of Donagi and Morrison. Applications towards transversality of Brill-Noether loci and higher rank Brill-Noether theory are then discussed.

Using the MMP and classical results in foliation theory, we prove a Beauville-Bogomolov type decomposition theorem for $X$. We deduce that holomorphic geometric structures of affine type on $X$ are in fact locally homogeneous away from an analytic subset of complex codimension at least two, and that they cannot be rigid unless $X$ is an étale quotient of a compact complex torus. Moreover, we establish a characterization of torus quotients using the vanishing of the first two Chern classes which is valid for any compact complex $n$-folds of algebraic dimension at least $n-1$. Finally, we show that a compact complex manifold with trivial canonical bundle bearing a rigid geometric structure must have infinite fundamental group if either $X$ is Fujiki, $X$ is a threefold, or $X$ is of algebraic dimension at most one.
