Abstract:We present a proof of Selberg's Central Limit Theorem for automorphic $L$-functions of degree 2 using Radziwiłł\space and Soundararajan's method. Additionally, we prove the independence of the automorphic $L$-functions associated with the sequence of primitive holomorphic cusp forms.

Abstract:The main theme of this paper is that singular automorphic forms on classical groups are given by theta series liftings. We establish several inequalities relating the automorphic multiplicities of a given representation and that of its abstract theta lift. Our methods allow one to lift noncuspidal, square integrable automorphic forms when the dual pair involved is in the stable range. In this way we construct new families of singular automorphic forms, many of which are clearly unipotent. In fact, starting from one-dimensional representations and repeating the procedure (of lifting in the stable range), one may obtain all automorphic forms which are quadratic unipotent in the sense of Moeglin.

Abstract:We prove a converse theorem for a family of L functions of degree 2 with gamma factor coming from a holomorphic cuspform. We show these L functions coincide with either those coming from a newform or a product of L functions arising from Dirichlet characters. We require some analytic data on the Euler factors, but don't require anything on the shape. We also suppose that the twisted L functions satisfy expected functional equations. We allow the non-trivial twists to have arbitrary poles.

Abstract:Assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, we provide uniform upper bounds with explicit main terms for moduli of $\left(\cL'/\cL\right)(s)$ and $\log{\cL(s)}$ for $1/2+\delta\leq\sigma<1$, fixed $\delta\in(0,1/2)$ and for functions in the Selberg class except for the identity function. We also provide estimates under additional assumptions on the distribution of Dirichlet coefficients of $\cL(s)$ on prime numbers. Moreover, by assuming a polynomial Euler product representation for $\cL(s)$, we establish uniform bounds for $|3/4-\sigma|\leq 1/4-1/\log{\log{\left(\sq|t|^{\sdeg}\right)}}$, $|1-\sigma|\leq 1/\log{\log{\left(\sq|t|^{\sdeg}\right)}}$ and $\sigma=1$, and completely explicit estimates by assuming also the strong $\lambda$-conjecture.

Abstract:Given a half-integral weight holomorphic Kohnen newform f on \Gamma_{0}(4) , we prove an asymptotic formula for large primes p with power saving error term for \sum_{\chi \pmod{p}}^{\qquad{}{}_{\scriptsize{*}}}| L(1/2,f,\chi) |^{2}. Our result is unconditional, it does not rely on the Ramanujan–Petersson conjecture for the form f . This gives a very sharp Lindelöf-on-average result for Dirichlet series attached to Hecke eigenforms without an Euler product. The Lindelöf hypothesis for such series was originally conjectured by Hoffstein. There are two main inputs. The first is a careful spectral analysis of a highly unbalanced shifted convolution problem involving the Fourier coefficients of half-integral weight forms. The second input is a bound for sums of products of Salié sums in the Pólya–Vinogradov range. Half-integrality is fully exploited to establish such an estimate. We use the closed form evaluation of the Salié sum to relate our problem to the sequence \alpha n^{2} \pmod{1} . Our treatment of this sequence is inspired by work of Rudnick–Sarnak and the second author on the local spacings of \alpha n^{2} modulo 1.

On the Density of Low Lying Zeros of a Large Family of Automorphic $L$-functions

Abstract:Under the generalized Riemann Hypothesis (GRH), Baluyot, Chandee, and Li nearly doubled the range in which the density of low lying zeros predicted by Katz and Sarnak is known to hold for a large family of automorphic $L$-functions with orthogonal symmetry. We generalize their main techniques to the study of higher centered moments of the one-level density of this family, leading to better results on the behavior near the central point. Numerous technical obstructions emerge that are not present in the one-level density. Averaging over the level of the forms and assuming GRH, we prove the density predicted by Katz and Sarnak holds for the $n$-th centered moments for test functions whose Fourier transform is compactly supported in $(-\sigma, \sigma)$ for $\sigma~=~\min\left\{3/2(n-1), 4/(2n-\mathbf{1}_{2\nmid n})\right\}$. For $n=3$, our results improve the previously best known $\sigma=2/3$ to $\sigma=3/4$. We also prove the two-level density agrees with the Katz-Sarnak density conjecture for test functions whose Fourier transform is compactly supported in $\sigma_1 = 3/2$ and $\sigma_2 = 5/6$, respectively, extending the previous best known sum of supports $\sigma_1 + \sigma_2 = 2$. This work is the first evidence of an interesting new phenomenon: by taking different test functions, we are able to extend the range in which the Katz-Sarnak density predictions hold. The techniques we develop can be applied to understanding quantities related to this family containing sums over multiple primes.

Abstract:Assuming the generalized Lindelöf hypothesis (GLH), a weak generalized Ramanujan conjecture and a Rankin--Selberg type partial sum estimate, we show that the sum of coefficients of a general $L$-function in short intervals of appropriate length has a Gaussian limiting distribution. The novelty lies in the degree aspect under GLH. In particular, this generalizes Hughes--Rudnick's result on lattice point counts in thin annuli.

Abstract:Radziwill and Soundararajan unveiled a connection between low-lying zeros and central values of $L$-functions, which they instantiated in the case of quadratic twists of an elliptic curve. This paper addresses the case of the family of modular forms in the level aspect, and proves that the logarithms of central values of associated L-functions approximately distribute along a normal law with mean -(1/2)log log c(f) and variance log log c(f), where c(f) is the analytic conductor of f, as predicted by the Keating-Snaith conjecture.

Anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-functions for Rankin--Selberg product

Abstract:We construct $p$-adic $L$-functions for Rankin--Selberg products of automorphic forms of hermitian type in the anticyclotomic direction for both root numbers. When the root number is $+1$, the construction relies on global Bessel periods on definite unitary groups which, due to the recent advances on the global Gan--Gross--Prasad conjecture, interpolate classical central $L$-values. When the root number is $-1$, we construct an element in the Iwasawa Selmer group using the diagonal cycle on the product of unitary Shimura varieties, and conjecture that its $p$-adic height interpolates derivatives of cyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-functions. We also propose the nonvanishing conjecture and the main conjecture in both cases.

Abstract:Let $\pi'$ be a fixed unitary cuspidal representation of $\mathrm{GL}(n)/\mathbb{Q}.$ We establish a subconvex bound in the $t$-aspect $$ L(1/2+it,\pi\times\pi')\ll_{\pi,\pi',\varepsilon}(1+|t|)^{\frac{n(n+1)}{4}-\frac{1}{4\cdot (4n^2+2n-1)}+\varepsilon}, $$ for any unitary pure isobaric automorphic representation $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}(n+1)/\mathbb{Q}.$ Moreover, the bound improves in the standard $L$-function case $$ L(1/2+it, \pi')\ll_{\pi',\varepsilon}(1+|t|)^{\frac{n}{4}-\frac{1}{4(n+1)(4n-1)}+\varepsilon}. $$ We also prove an explicit lower bound for nonvanishing of central $L$-values $$ \sum_{\pi\in\mathcal{A}_0}\textbf{1}_{L(1/2,\pi\times\pi')\neq 0}\gg_{\varepsilon}|\mathcal{A}_0|^{\frac{1}{n(n+1)(4n^2+2n-1)}-\varepsilon}, $$ for a suitable finite family $\mathcal{A}_0$ of unitary cuspidal representations of $\mathrm{GL}(n+1)/\mathbb{Q}.$ More generally, we address the spectral side subconvexity in the case of uniform parameter growth, and a quantitative form of simultaneous nonvanishing of central $L$-values for $\mathrm{GL}(n+1)\times\mathrm{GL}(n)$ (over $\mathbb{Q}$) in both level and eigenvalue aspects. Among other ingredients, our proofs employ a new relative trace formula in conjunction with P. Abstract:We prove an asymptotic formula for the second moment of the $\mathrm{GL}(n)\times\mathrm{GL}(n+1)$ Rankin--Selberg central $L$-values $L(1/2,\Pi\otimes\pi)$, where $\pi$ is a fixed cuspidal representation of $\mathrm{GL}(n)$ that is tempered and unramified at every place, while $\Pi$ varies over a family of automorphic representations of $\mathrm{PGL}(n+1)$ ordered by (archimedean or non-archimedean) conductor. As another application of our method, we prove the existence of infinitely many cuspidal representations $\Pi$ of $\mathrm{PGL}(n+1)$ such that $L(1/2,\Pi\otimes\pi_1)$ and $L(1/2,\Pi\otimes\pi_2)$ do not vanish simultaneously where $\pi_1$ and $\pi_2$ are cuspidal representations of $\mathrm{GL}(n)$ that are unramified and tempered at every place and have trivial central characters.

We depart from previous approaches based on Kuznetsov-type trace formulae, and instead rely on $L$-function techniques. This improves recent results of Blomer near the threshold of the pointwise bounds.

Abstract:In this paper we quantify the rate of convergence in Selberg's central limit theorem for $\log|\zeta(1/2+it)|$ based on the method of proof given by Radziwill and Soundararajan. We achieve the same rate of convergence of $(\log\log\log T)^2/\sqrt{\log\log T}$ as Selberg in the Kolmogorov distance by using the Dudley distance instead. We also prove the theorem for the multivariate case given by Bourgade with the same rate of convergence as in the single variable case.

Abstract:We prove a number of unconditional statistical results of the Hecke coefficients for unitary cuspidal representations of $\operatorname{GL}(2)$ over number fields. Using partial bounds on the size of the Hecke coefficients, instances of Langlands functoriality, and properties of Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions, we obtain bounds on the set of places where linear combinations of Hecke coefficients are negative. Under a mild functoriality assumption we extend these methods to $\operatorname{GL}(n)$. As an application, we obtain a result related to a question of Serre about the occurrence of large Hecke eigenvalues of Maass forms. Furthermore, in the cases where the Ramanujan conjecture is satisfied, we obtain distributional results of the Hecke coefficients at places varying in certain congruence or Galois classes.

Abstract:We prove several dimension formulas for spaces of scalar-valued Siegel modular forms of degree $2$ with respect to certain congruence subgroups of level $4$. In case of cusp forms, all modular forms considered originate from cuspidal automorphic representations of $\mathrm{GSp}(4,\mathbb{A})$ whose local component at $p=2$ admits non-zero fixed vectors under the principal congruence subgroup of level $2$. Using known dimension formulas combined with dimensions of spaces of fixed vectors in local representations at $p=2$, we obtain formulas for the number of relevant automorphic representations. These in turn lead to new dimension formulas, in particular for Siegel modular forms with respect to the Klingen congruence subgroup of level $4$.

On the central value of Rankin $L$-functions for self-dual algebraic representations of linear groups over totally real fields

Abstract:Deligne has formulated extremely influential conjectures about certain special values of the $L$-functions of (Grothendieck) motives over a number field $F$. Given the conjectural dictionary between motives and 'algebraic' automorphic representations of $\textrm{GL}(N, {\mathbb A}_F)$, where ${\mathbb A}_F$ denotes the adèles of $F$, they translate into conjectures concerning the $L$-functions of these automorphic representations. These complex representations, when they are 'regular', can be conjugated by the automorphisms of the complex field ${\mathbb C}$. It then follows, as a weak consequence of Deligne's conjectures, that the vanishing at critical points (integers of half-integers) of the automorphic $L$-functions should be invariant by automorphisms of ${\mathbb C}$. If $F$ is totally imaginary, this has been proven by Moeglin, for standard or Rankin $L$-functions. Here we extend the result to Rankin $L$-fuctions for totally real fields $F$, under a parity and a regularity assumption. The proof relies on Eisenstein cohomology and the Zucker conjecture (a theorem of Looijenga and Saper-Stern.)
