Abstract:We give a complete classification of holomorphic endomorphisms of Hopf manifolds in dimensions two and three. In particular, we show that these endomorphisms are automorphisms except for the diagonal class, in which case they are quasi-homogeneous.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact complex space in Fujiki's Class $C$. We show that the group $Aut(X)$ of all biholomorphic automorphisms of $X$ has the Jordan property: there is a (Jordan) constant $J = J(X)$ such that any finite subgroup $G\le Aut(X)$ has an abelian subgroup $H\le G$ with the index $[G:H]\le J$. This extends, with a quite different method, the result of Prokhorov and Shramov for Moishezon threefolds.

Abstract:Let H be an infinite dimensional complex Hilbert space. Denote by B(H) the algebra of all bounded linear operators on H, and by I(H) the set of all idempotents in B(H). Suppose that Φ is a surjective map from B(H) onto itself. If for every λ ∈ -1,1,2,3, and A, B ∈ B(H),A-λB ∈I(H) ⇔ Φ(A) -λΦ(B) ∈I(H, then Φ is a Jordan ring automorphism, i.e. there exists a continuous invertible linear or conjugate linear operator T on H such that Φ(A) = TAT -1 for all A ∈ B(H), or Φ(A) = TA*T -1 for all A ∈ B(H); if, in addition, A-iB ∈I(H)⇔ Φ(A)-iΦ(B) ∈I(H), here i is the imaginary unit, then Φ is either an automorphism or an anti-automorphism.

Abstract:In this work, the automorphism group schemes of finite-dimensional simple Jordan pairs of types I and IV, and of some Jordan triple systems related to them, are determined. (In some of the cases this is already known, but a new proof is provided here.) We assume $\mathrm{char}(\mathbb{F}) \neq 2$ for the base field $\mathbb{F}$.

Abstract:We give some applications of a Hopf algebra constructed from a group acting on another Hopf algebra A as Hopf automorphisms, namely Molnar's smash coproduct Hopf algebra. We find connections between the exponent and Frobenius-Schur indicators of a smash coproduct and the twisted exponents and twisted Frobenius-Schur indicators of the original Hopf algebra A. We study the category of modules of the smash coproduct.

Abstract:We study automorphism and birational automorphism groups of varieties over fields of positive characteristic from the point of view of Jordan and $p$-Jordan property. In particular, we show that the Cremona group of rank $2$ over a field of characteristic $p>0$ is $p$-Jordan, and the birational automorphism group of an arbitrary geometrically irreducible algebraic surface is nilpotently $p$-Jordan of class at most $2$. Also, we show that the automorphism group of a smooth geometrically irreducible projective variety of non-negative Kodaira dimension is Jordan in the usual sense.

Abstract:Any complex-analytic vector bundle E admits naturally defined homotheties ϕ α , α ∈ C ⁎ , i.e. ϕ α is the multiplication of a local section by a complex number α. We investigate the question when such automorphisms can be lifted to a non-split supermanifold corresponding to E . Further, we compute the automorphism supergroup of a Π-symmetric super-Grassmannian Π Gr n , k , and, using Galois cohomology, we classify the real structures on Π Gr n , k and compute the corresponding supermanifolds of real points.

Abstract:We determine the group of algebra automorphisms for the two-parameter quantized enveloping algebra $\V$. As an application, we prove that the group of Hopf algebra automorphisms for $\V$ is isomorphic to a torus of rank two.

Abstract:We introduce a Hopf algebroid associated to a proper Lie group action on a smooth manifold. We prove that the cyclic cohomology of this Hopf algebroid is equal to the de Rham cohomology of invariant differential forms. When the action is cocompact, we develop a generalized Hodge theory for the de Rham cohomology of invariant differential forms. We prove that every cyclic cohomology class of the Hopf algebroid is represented by a generalized harmonic form. This implies that the space of cyclic cohomology of the Hopf algebroid is finite dimensional. As an application of the techniques developed in this paper, we discuss properties of the Euler characteristic for a proper cocompact action.

Abstract:A group $H$ of holomorphic automorphisms of a compact $d$-dimensional complex manifold $M$ is called a generalized Fermat group of type $(d;k,n)$ if $H\cong {\mathbb Z}_{k}^{n}$ and there is a Galois holomorphic branched covering $\pi:M \to {\mathbb P}^{d}$, with deck group $H$, whose branch divisor consists of $n+1$ hyperplanes in general position (each one of branch order $k$). We prove that generalized Fermat groups of type $(d;k,n)$ are unique for $(d;k,n) \notin \{(2;2,5), (2;4,3)\}$.

Abstract:We show that smooth hypersurfaces in complex projective spaces with automorphism groups of maximum size are isomorphic to Fermat hypersurfaces, with a few exceptions. For the exceptions, we give explicitly the defining equations and automorphism groups.

Abstract:A parabolic automorphism of a hyperkahler manifold is a holomorphic automorphism acting on $H^2(M)$ by a non-semisimple quasi-unipotent linear map. We prove that a parabolic automorphism which preserves a Lagrangian fibration acts on its fibers ergodically. The invariance of a Lagrangian fibration is automatic for manifolds satisfying the hyperkahler SYZ conjecture; this includes all known examples of hyperkahler manifolds. When there are two parabolic automorphisms preserving two distinct Lagrangian fibration, it follows that the group they generate acts on $M$ ergodically. Our results generalize those obtained by S. Cantat for K3 surfaces.

On the automorphism groups of hyperbolic manifolds

Abstract:Let Diff(N) and Homeo(N) denote the smooth and topological group of automorphisms respectively that fix the boundary of the n-manifold N, pointwise. We show that the (n-4)-th homotopy group of Homeo(S^1 \times D^{n-1}) is not finitely-generated for n >= 4 and in particular the topological mapping-class group of S^1\times D^3 is infinitely generated. We apply this to show that the smooth and topological automorphism groups of finite-volume hyperbolic n-manifolds (when n >= 4) do not have the homotopy-type of finite CW-complexes, results previously known for n >= 11 by Farrell and Jones. In particular, we show that if N is a closed hyperbolic n-manifold, and if Diff_0(N) represents the subgroup of diffeomorphisms that are homotopic to the identity, then the (n-4)-th homotopy group of Diff_0(N) is infinitely generated and hence if n=4, then \pi_0\Diff_0(N) is infinitely generated with similar results holding topologically.

Abstract:For a locally finite, connected graph $\Gamma$, let $\operatorname{Map}(\Gamma)$ denote the group of proper homotopy equivalences of $\Gamma$ up to proper homotopy. Excluding sporadic cases, we show $\operatorname{Aut}(S(M_\Gamma)) \cong \operatorname{Map}(\Gamma)$, where $\mathcal{S}(M_\Gamma)$ is the sphere complex of the doubled handlebody $M_\Gamma$ associated to $\Gamma$. We also construct an exhaustion of $S(M_\Gamma)$ by finite strongly rigid sets when $\Gamma$ has finite rank and finitely many rays, and an appropriate generalization otherwise.

Algebraically trivial automorphisms of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds

Abstract:We extend the lattice-theoretic approach of Brandhorst--Cattaneo to classify algebraically trivial actions on the known IHS manifolds, up to deformation and birational conjugacy. In particular, we classify even order algebraically trivial non symplectic automorphisms, with or without trivial discriminant action. In the case of nontrivial discriminant actions, we show that such automorphisms exist only for finitely many known deformation types and orders.

Abstract:Hahn groups endowed with the canonical valuation play a fundamental role in the classification of valued abelian groups. In this paper we study the group of valuation (respectively order) preserving automorphisms of a Hahn group $G$. Under the assumption that $G$ satisfies some lifting property, we prove a structure theorem decomposing the automorphism group into a semidirect product of two notable subgroups. We characterise a class of Hahn groups satisfying the aforementioned lifting property. For some special cases we provide a matrix description of the automorphism group.

Actions of large finite groups on aspherical manifolds

Abstract:In this paper we study actions of finite groups on closed connected aspherical manifolds. Under some assumptions on the outer automorphism group of the fundamental group of a closed connected aspherical manifold $M$, we prove that the homeomorphism group of $M$ is Jordan, we bound the discrete degree of symmetry of $M$ and obtain a rigidity result, and we study the number of stabilizers of finite group actions on $M$. Thereafter, we show that closed connected aspherical locally homogeneous spaces $H\setminus G/\Gamma$ satisfy the necessary hypothesis on the outer automorphism group of the fundamental group.
