Abstract:In this paper we revisit the work of E.T. Bell concerning partition polynomials in order to introduce the reciprocal partition polynomials. We give their explicit formulas and apply the result to compute closed formulae for some well-known partition functions.

Abstract:Given a partition $\lambda$, we write $e_j(\lambda)$ for the $j^{\textrm{th}}$ elementary symmetric polynomial $e_j$ evaluated at the parts of $\lambda$ and $e_jp_A(n)$ for the sum of $e_j(\lambda)$ as $\lambda$ ranges over the set of partitions of $n$ with parts in $A$. For $e_jp_A(n)$, we prove analogs of the classical formula for the partition function, $p(n)=1/n \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\sigma_1(n-k)p(k)$, where $\sigma_1$ is the sum of divisors function. We prove several congruences for $e_2p_4(n)$, the sum of $e_2$ over the set of partitions of $n$ into four parts. Define the function $\textrm{pre}_j(\lambda)$ to be the multiset of monomials in $e_j(\lambda)$, which is itself a partition. If $\mathcal A$ is a set of partitions, we define $\textrm{pre}_j(\mathcal A)$ to be the set of partitions $\textrm{pre}_j(\lambda)$ as $\lambda$ ranges over $\mathcal A$. If $\mathcal P(n)$ is the set of all partitions of $n$, we conjecture that the number of odd partitions in $\textrm{pre}_2(\mathcal P(n))$ is at least the number of distinct partitions. We prove some results about $\textrm{pre}_2(\mathcal B(n))$, where $\mathcal B(n)$ is the set of binary partitions of $n$. We conclude with conjectures on the log-concavity of functions related to $e_jp(n)$, the sum of $e_j(\lambda)$ for all $\lambda\in \mathcal P(n)$.

Abstract:We present Euler-type recurrence relations for some partition functions. Some of our results provide new recurrences for the number of unrestricted partitions of $n$, denote by $p(n)$. Others establish recurrences for partition functions not yet considered.

Abstract:We develop a new closed-form arithmetic and recursive formula for the partition function and a generalization of Andrews' smallest parts (spt) function. Using the inclusion-exclusion principle, we additionally develop a formula for the not-relatively prime partition function (which counts the number of partitions that are not relatively prime). Moreover, we prove a theorem involving the greatest common divisor of partitions, which allows us to link partitions to prime numbers and lets us derive a formula for the relatively prime function. Lastly, we develop numerous new identities for Jordan's totient function of second order, Euler's totient function, and Dedekind's psi function.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of sequences of polynomials linked to the sequence of Bell polynomials. Some sequences of this class have applications on the theory of hyperbolic differential equations and other sequences generalize Laguerre polynomials and associated Lah polynomials. We discuss, for these polynomials, their explicit expressions, relations to the successive derivatives of a given function, real zeros and recurrence relations. Some known results are significantly simplified.

Abstract:Inspired by a recent work of Kim, Kim and Lovejoy on two overpartition difference functions, we study some bipartition difference functions, four of which are related to Ramanujan's identities recorded in his lost notebook. We show that they are always positive by elementary q -series transformations.

Abstract:This paper gives an exposition of well known results on vector partition functions. The exposition is based on works of M. Brion, A. Szenes and M. Vergne and is geared toward explicit computer realizations. In particular, the paper presents two algorithms for computing the vector partition function with respect to a finite set of vectors $I$ as a quasipolynomial over a finite set of pointed polyhedral cones. We use the developed techniques to relate a result of P. Tumarkin and A. Felikson (and present an independent proof in the particular case of finite-dimensional root systems) to give bounds for the periods of the Kostant partition functions of $E_6$, $E_7$, $E_8$, $F_4$, $G_2$ (the periods are divisors of respectively 6, 12, 60, 12, 6). The first of the described algorithms has been realized and is publicly available under the Library General Public License v3.0 at {<a class="link-external link-http" href="http://vectorpartition.sourceforge.net/" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>}. We include (non-unique) partial fraction decompositions for the generating functions of the Kostant partition function for $A_2$, $A_3$, $A_4$, $B_2$, $B_3$, $C_2$, $C_3$, $G_2$ in the appendix.

Congruences for a class of eta-quotients and their applications

Abstract:The partition function $ p_{[1^c\ell^d]}(n)$ can be defined using the generating function, \[\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}p_{[1^c{\ell}^d]}(n)q^n=\prod_{n=1}^{\infty}\dfrac{1}{(1-q^n)^c(1-q^{\ell n})^d}.\] In \cite{P}, we proved infinite family of congruences for this partition function for $\ell=11$. In this paper, we extend the ideas that we have used in \cite{P} to prove infinite families of congruences for the partition function $p_{[1^c\ell^d]}(n)$ modulo powers of $\ell$ for any integers $c$ and $d$, for primes $5\leq \ell\leq 17$. This generalizes Atkin, Gordon and Hughes' congruences for powers of the partition function. The proofs use an explicit basis for the vector space of modular functions of the congruence subgroup $\Gamma_0(\ell)$. Finally we used these congruences to prove congruences and incongruences of the generalized Frobenius $\ell$-color partitions, $\ell-$regular partitions and $\ell-$core partitions for $\ell=5,7,11,13$ and $17$.

Abstract:The study of partitions with parts separated by parity was initiated by Andrews in connection with Ramanujan's mock theta functions, and his variations on this theme have produced generating functions with a large variety of different modular properties. In this paper, we use Ingham's Tauberian theorem to compute the asymptotic main term for each of the eight functions studied by Andrews.

Abstract:Bressoud introduced the partition function $B(\alpha_1,\ldots,\alpha_\lambda;\eta,k,r;n)$, which counts the number of partitions with certain difference conditions. Bressoud posed a conjecture on the generating function for the partition function $B(\alpha_1,\ldots,\alpha_\lambda;\eta,k,r;n)$ in multi-summation form. In this article, we introduce a bijection related to Bressoud's conjecture. As an application, we give a new companion to the Göllnitz-Gordon identities.

Abstract:A cubic partition is an integer partition wherein the even parts can appear in two colors. In this paper, we introduce the notion of generalized cubic partitions and prove a number of new congruences akin to the classical Ramanujan-type. We emphasize two methods of proofs, one elementary (relying significantly on functional equations) and the other based on modular forms. We close by proving analogous results for generalized overcubic partitions.

Abstract:The interpretation of static and dynamic scattering experiments on droplet microemulsions is discussed. We review the arguments given in our previous papers that call into question the methods of current determination of basic phenomenological characteristics of the droplet surfactant monolayer, such as the bending and Gaussian rigidities. We give also responses to our criticism by T. Hellweg, B. Farago, M. Gradzielski, D. Langevin, and S. Safran (Colloids and Surfaces A 221 (2003) 257 and some other works by these authors). They agree with some of our objections; the rest of their response is shown to be flawed. We also show that in many points their way of discussion is improper and misleading. It is concluded that the values of the parameters of microemulsion droplets, as extracted in their experiments, are not reliable and should be reexamined.

Abstract:Let e_k(x_1,...,x_l) be an elementary symmetric polynomial and let mu = (mu_1,...,mu_l) be an integer partition. Define pre_k(mu) to be the partition whose parts are the summands in the evaluation e_k(mu_1,...,mu_l). The study of such partitions was initiated by Ballantine, Beck, and Merca who showed (among other things) that pre_2 is injective as a map on binary partitions of n. In the present work we derive a host of identities involving the sequences which count the number of parts of a given value in the image of pre_2. These include generating functions, explicit expressions, and formulas for forward differences. We generalize some of these to d-ary partitions and explore connections with color partitions. Our techniques include the use of generating functions and bijections on rooted partitions. We end with a list of conjectures and a direction for future research.
