Abstract:The Shafarevich-Tate group $W (\mathscr{A})$ measures the failure of the Hasse principle for an abelian variety $\mathscr{A}$. Using a correspondence between the abelian varieties and the higher dimensional non-commutative tori, we prove that $W (\mathscr{A})\cong Cl~(\Lambda)\oplus Cl~(\Lambda)$ or $W (\mathscr{A})\cong \left(\mathbf{Z}/2^k\mathbf{Z}\right) \oplus Cl_{~\mathbf{odd}}~(\Lambda)\oplus Cl_{~\mathbf{odd}}~(\Lambda)$, where $Cl~(\Lambda)$ is the ideal class group of a ring $\Lambda$ associated to the K-theory of the non-commutative tori and $2^k $ divides the order of $Cl~(\Lambda)$. The case of elliptic curves with complex multiplication is considered in detail.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the calculation of the Shafarevich - Tate group (denoted as \(X(A)\)) of abelian varieties. Specifically, the author hopes to use the correspondence between high - dimensional non - commutative tori and abelian varieties to derive the structure of \(X(A)\). ### Problem Background 1. **Failure of the Hasse Principle**: - The Shafarevich - Tate group \(X(A)\) measures the degree of failure of the Hasse principle on the abelian variety \(A\). The Hasse principle states that if a Diophantine equation has solutions in all local fields (including the real numbers and finite fields), then it should also have solutions in the field of rational numbers. - Calculating \(X(A)\) is an important and difficult problem in number theory. 2. **Limitations of Existing Methods**: - Current methods include analytic order - number evaluation based on the Birch and Swinnerton - Dyer conjecture and the exact calculation of the \(p\)-part of \(X(A)\), but these methods still have limitations. ### Research Objectives The main objective of the paper is to calculate \(X(A_K)\) by establishing a functor \(F\) between the \(n\)-dimensional abelian variety \(A_K\) and the \(2n\)-dimensional non - commutative torus \(A_\Theta\). ### Main Contributions - **New Calculation Method**: By reformulating \(X(A_K)\) as the K - theory of the non - commutative torus \(A_\Theta(k)\), the author provides a new method for calculating \(X(A_K)\). - **Specific Structural Formula**: The author proves that \(X(A_K)\) can be expressed as a direct sum form of the ideal class group \(Cl(\Lambda)\) as follows: \[ X(A_K)\sim = \begin{cases} Cl(\Lambda)\oplus Cl(\Lambda), & \text{if } k \text{ is even}, \\ \left(\mathbb{Z}/2k\mathbb{Z}\right)\oplus Cl_{\text{odd}}(\Lambda)\oplus Cl_{\text{odd}}(\Lambda), & \text{if } k \text{ is odd}. \end{cases} \] Here, \(Cl(\Lambda)\) is a finite group consisting of the ideal classes of the ring \(\Lambda\), and \(k\) is the degree of the number field \(k = \mathbb{Q}(\lambda_B)\) generated by the Perron - Frobenius eigenvalue of the matrix \(B\). ### Application Examples The paper also carefully considers the case of elliptic curves with complex multiplication and gives specific examples to illustrate the application of the above formula. In summary, this paper provides a completely new perspective and tool for calculating the Shafarevich - Tate group of abelian varieties by introducing methods of non - commutative geometry.
