Abstract:Women in Microwave (WIM) serves as a subset of Women in Engineering (WIE), specifically focusing on the field of microwave engineering. In China, WIM has organized numerous events, offering a platform for female engineers to connect, learn, and grow [1] . Each event typically sees around 40 participants, including engineers and students from various institutions. Four years ago, the authors had the privilege of attending the WIE session at the Conference on Numerical Electromagnetic and Multiphysics Modeling and Optimization (NEMO) 2020. It showed the powerful presence of women in engineering and inspired the authors to keep moving forward. Therefore, the authors were delighted to chair and assist in organizing the WIM session during the 2024 China Microwave Week.

Abstract:What is the impression of the word she when it comes to your mind? Smart or sensitive? Humble or helpful? Excellent or emotional? How can we build a more gender-inclusive society in the field of science and technology by benefitting from the contributions of women? To address these topics, a special session of Women in Microwaves (WiM) and Wireless was held on the afternoon of 14 August 2022 in Harbin, China, along with the 2022 IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Societys IWS2022, one conference among the 2022 China Microwave Week. The special session was organized by the MTT-S WiM subcommittee. More than 30 people attended this event in person or virtually, including graduate students and male and female scientists in the area of microwave technology (Figure 1).

Abstract:After almost 15 years of serving on and/or cochairing the IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S) Women in Microwaves (WIM) Committee, Im stepping down in 2024, so this will be my swan song article. I thought it would be appropriate to do a quick recap of some of the important things WIM has accomplished over the years that map to one of my favorite articles from the Lean In organization, which helps women achieve their ambitions and work to create an equal world. The article, 6 Ways That Women Can Champion Each Other At Work, describes key ways women can support one another, something the committee and members of the WIM organization have increasingly taken to heart over the years I have been involved with the group (Figure 1).

Abstract:As reported by the statistics from the Society of Women Engineering, there are significantly more women in engineering in China than in Europe or the USA, saying, approximately 43 percent of engineers in China are women, and there are also a significant number of women students and professors. How about the situation in microwave engineering in China, especially in Universities? A report extracted from statistics and internet survey will be delivered in the special session, in which the percent of women graduate students and professors will be given. Meanwhile, the possible difficulties and some challenges for the women when choosing the engineering fields will be discussed in the panel session. Through the talk and discussions in this special session, we hope our women students and young female scholars can have more confidences on their current studies and future career development, which is important not only for themselves, but also for their families and social development. Furthermore, with the growing number of women in science and technology, it is thus quite necessary and important for the society to change cultural perceptions on women's roles, and government to change some policies and laws that promote gender equality. Being half of the populations in the world, the attendance and roles for the women in engineering will definitely contribute a lot for the development of the science and technology in many countries.
