Abstract:Certain quantization problems are equivalent to the construction of morphisms from "quantum" to "classical" props. Once such a morphism is constructed, Hensel's lemma shows that it is in fact an isomorphism. This gives a new, simple proof that any Etingof-Kazhdan quantization functor is an equivalence of categories between quantized universal enveloping (QUE) algebras and Lie bialgebras over a formal series ring (dequantization). We apply the same argument to construct dequantizations of formal solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation and of quasitriangular QUE algebras. We also give structure results for the props involved in quantization of Lie bialgebras, which yield an associator-independent proof that the prop of QUE algebras is a flat deformation of the prop of co-Poisson universal enveloping algebras.

Abstract:To a complex symplectic manifold X we associate a canonical quantization algebroid. Our construction is similar to that of Polesello-Schapira's deformation-quantization algebroid, but the deformation parameter is no longer central. If X is compact, the triangulated category of regular holonomic quantization modules is a linear complex Calabi-Yau category of dimension 1 + dim X.

Abstract:In this article, an iterated function system (IFS) is considered on the real projective line $\mathbb{RP}^1$ so that the attractor is a Cantor-like set. Hausdorff dimension of this attractor is estimated. The existence of a probability measure associated with this IFS on $\mathbb{RP}^1$ is also demonstrated. It is shown that the $n$-th quantization error of order $r$ for the push-forward measure is a constant multiple of the $n$-th quantization error of order $r$ of the original measure. Finally, an upper bound for the $n$-th quantization error of order $2$ for this measure is provided.

Abstract:We reframe Paradan-Vergne's approach to quantization commutes with reduction in KK-theory through a recent formalism introduced by Kasparov, focusing more especially the index theoretic parts that lead to their "Witten non-abelian localization formula". While our method uses the same ingredients as their's in spirit, interesting conceptual simplifications occur, and the relationship to the Ma-Tian-Zhang analytic approach becomes quite transparent.

Abstract:We present a quantization scheme of an arbitrary measure space based on overcomplete families of states and generalizing the Klauder and the Berezin-Toeplitz approaches. This scheme could reveal itself as an efficient tool for quantizing physical systems for which more traditional methods like geometric quantization are uneasy to implement. The procedure is illustrated by (mostly two-dimensional) elementary examples in which the measure space is a $N$-element set and the unit interval. Spaces of states for the $N$-element set and the unit interval are the 2-dimensional euclidean $\R^2$ and hermitian $\C^2$ planes.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the theory of deformation quantization to understand Connes’ and Moscovici’s results [5]. We use Fedosov’s method of deformation quantization of symplectic manifolds to reconstruct Zagier’s deformation [11] of modular forms, and relate this deformation to the Weyl-Moyal product. We also show that the projective structure introduced by Connes and Moscovici is equivalent to the existence of certain geometric data in the case of foliation groupoids. Using the methods developed by the second author [9], we reconstruct a universal deformation formula of the Hopf algebra H1 associated to codimension one foliations. In the end, we prove that the first Rankin-Cohen bracket RC1 defines a noncommutative Poisson structure for an arbitrary H1 action.

Abstract:Expository notes which combine a historical survey of the development of quantum physics with a review of selected mathematical topics in quantization theory (addressed to students that are not complete novices in quantum mechanics). After recalling in the introduction the early stages of the quantum revolution, and recapitulating in Sect. 2.1 some basic notions of symplectic geometry, we survey in Sect. 2.2 the so called prequantization thus preparing the ground for an outline of geometric quantization (Sect. 2.3). In Sect. 3 we apply the general theory to the study of basic examples of quantization of Kaehler manifolds. In Sect. 4 we review the Weyl and Wigner maps and the work of Groenewold and Moyal that laid the foundations of quantum mechanics in phase space, ending with a brief survey of the modern development of deformation quantization. Sect. 5 provides a review of second quantization and its mathematical interpretation. We point out that the treatment of (nonrelativistic) bound states requires going beyond the neat mathematical formalization of the concept of second quantization. An appendix is devoted to Pascual Jordan, the least known among the creators of quantum mechanics and the chief architect of the "theory of quantized matter waves".

On a Graph Theoretic Formula of Gammelgaard for Berezin–Toeplitz Quantization

Abstract:We give a proof of (a slightly refined version of) a graph theoretic formula due to Gammelgaard, Karabegov and Schlichenmaier for Berezin–Toeplitz quantization on Kähler manifolds. We obtain the formula by inverting the Berezin transform using a composition formula for the ring of differential operators encoded by linear combinations of strongly connected graphs. The same method is also used to identify the dual Karabegov–Bordemann–Waldmann star product. Our proof has the merit of giving more insight into Karabegov–Schlichenmaier’s identification theorem (Karabegov in J Reine Angew Math 540:49–76, 2001 ) that the Karabegov classifying form of the Berezin and Berezin–Toeplitz star products are, respectively, obtained by deforming the Kähler metric along the Ricci curvature and the logarithm of the Bergman kernel.

Abstract:As a consequence of the Schwartz kernel Theorem, any linear continuous operator $\widehat{A}:$ $\mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R}^{n})\longrightarrow\mathcal{S}^{\prime}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ can be written in Weyl form in a unique way, namely it is the Weyl quantization of a unique symbol $a\in\mathcal{S}^{\prime}(\mathbb{R}^{2n})$. Hence, dequantization can always be performed, and in a unique way. Despite the importance of this topic in Quantum Mechanics and Time-frequency Analysis, the same issue for the Born-Jordan quantization seems simply unexplored, except for the case of polynomial symbols, which we also review in detail. In this paper we show that any operator $\widehat{A}$ as above can be written in Born-Jordan form, although the representation is never unique if one allows general temperate distributions as symbols. Then we consider the same problem when the space of temperate distributions is replaced by the space of smooth slowly increasing functions which extend to entire function in $\mathbb{C}^{2n}$, with a growth at most exponential in the imaginary directions. We prove again the validity of such a representation, and we determine a sharp threshold for the exponential growth under which the representation is unique. We employ techniques from the theory of division of distributions.

Abstract:In this short note we provide a quantitative version of the classical Runge approximation property for second order elliptic operators. This relies on quantitative unique continuation results and duality arguments. We show that these estimates are essentially optimal. As a model application we provide a new proof of the result from \cite{F07}, \cite{AK12} on stability for the Calderón problem with local data.

Abstract:Into a geometric setting, we import the physical interpretation of index theorems via semi-classical analysis in topological quantum field theory. We develop a direct relationship between Fedosov's deformation quantization of a symplectic manifold X and the Batalin–Vilkovisky (BV) quantization of a one-dimensional sigma model with target X. This model is a quantum field theory of AKSZ type and is quantized rigorously using Costello's homotopic theory of effective renormalization. We show that Fedosov's Abelian connections on the Weyl bundle produce solutions to the effective quantum master equation. Moreover, BV integration produces a natural trace map on the deformation quantized algebra. This formulation allows us to exploit a (rigorous) localization argument in quantum field theory to deduce the algebraic index theorem via semi-classical analysis, i.e., one-loop Feynman diagram computations.
Strict quantization for compact pseudo-Kähler manifolds and group actions

Abstract:The asymptotic results for Berezin-Toeplitz operators yield a strict quantization for the algebra of smooth functions on a given Hodge manifold. It seems natural to generalize this picture for quantizable pseudo-Kähler manifolds in presence of a group action. Thus, in this setting we introduce a Berezin transform which has a complete asymptotic expansion on the preimage of the zero set of the moment map. It leads in a natural way to prove that certain quantization maps are strict.

Quantization of classical spectral curves via topological recursion

Abstract:We prove that the topological recursion formalism can be used to quantize any generic classical spectral curve with smooth ramification points and simply ramified away from poles. For this purpose, we build both the associated quantum curve, i.e.~the differential operator quantizing the algebraic equation defining the classical spectral curve considered, and a basis of wave functions, that is to say a basis of solutions of the corresponding differential equation. We further build a Lax pair representing the resulting quantum curve and thus present it as a point in an associated space of meromorphic connections on the Riemann sphere, a first step towards isomonodromic deformations. We finally propose two examples: the derivation of a 2-parameter family of formal trans-series solutions to Painlevé 2 equation and the quantization of a degree three spectral curve with pole only at infinity.

Abstract:We provide a general quantified Ingham-Karamata Tauberian theorem with a flexible one-sided Tauberian condition under several types of boundary behavior for the Laplace transform. Our results in particular improve a theorem by Stahn, removing a vexing restriction on the growth of the Laplace transform. Improving existing optimality results, we also show that the obtained quantified rate is optimal in almost all cases.
