Abstract:In this paper it is shown that a sortable ideal $I$ is Freiman if and only if its sorted graph is chordal. This characterization is used to give a complete classification of Freiman principal Borel ideals and of Freiman Veronese type ideals with constant bound.

Abstract:In this paper we study the Freiman inequality for the minimal number of generators of the square of an equigenerated monomial ideal. Such an ideal is called a Freiman ideal if equality holds in the Freiman inequality. We classify all Freiman ideals of maximal height, the Freiman ideals of certain classes of principal Borel ideals, the Hibi ideals which are Freiman, and classes of Veronese type ideals which are Freiman.

Abstract:An equigenerated monomial ideal $I$ in the polynomial ring $R=k[z_1,\ldots, z_n]$ is a Freiman ideal if $\mu(I^2)=\ell(I)\mu(I)-{\ell(I)\choose 2}$ where $\ell(I)$ is the analytic spread of $I$ and $\mu(I)$ is the number of minimal generators of $I$. In this paper we classify all simple connected unmixed bipartite graphs whose cover ideals are Freiman ideals.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is the fine structure of the ideals in the title, with emphasis on the properties of the associated Rees algebra and the special fiber. The watershed between the present approach and some of the previous work in the literature is that here one does not assume that the ideals in question satisfy the common generic properties. One exception is a recent work of N. P. H. Lan which inspired the present work. Here we recover and extend his work. We strongly focus on the behavior of the ideals of minors of the corresponding so-called Hilbert--Burch matrix and on conjugation features of the latter. We apply the results to three important models: linearly presented ideals of plane fat points, reciprocal ideals of hyperplane arrangements and linearly presented monomial ideals.

Abstract:For an ideal $I$ in a Noetherian ring $R$, the Fitting ideals $\textrm{Fitt}_j(I)$ are studied. We discuss the question of when $\textrm{Fitt}_j(I)=I$ or $\sqrt{\textrm{Fitt}_j(I)}=\sqrt{I}$ for some $j$. A classical case is the Hilbert-Burch theorem when $j=1$ and $I$ is a perfect ideal of grade $2$ in a local ring.

Abstract:Freiman's theorem gives a lower bound for the cardinality of the doubling of a finite set in $\RR^n$. In this paper we give an interpretation of his theorem for monomial ideals and their fiber cones. We call a quasi-equigenerated monomial ideal a Freiman ideal, if the set of its exponent vectors achieves Freiman's lower bound for its doubling. Algebraic characterizations of Freiman ideals are given, and finite simple graphs are classified whose edge ideals or matroidal ideals of its cycle matroids are Freiman ideals.

Abstract:We study Abelian ideals of a Borel subalgebra consisting of long roots. It is shown that methods of Cellini and Papi can be extended to this situation. A uniform expression for the number of long Abelian ideals is given. We also show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the long Abelian ideals and B-stable commutative subalgebras in the little adjoint representation of the Langlands dual Lie algebra.

Abstract:A distinguished family of completely prime primitive ideals in the universal enveloping algebra of a reductive Lie algebra ${\mathfrak g}$ over ${\mathbb C}$ are those ideals constructed from one-dimensional representations of finite $W$-algebras. We refer to these ideals as Losev--Premet ideals. For ${\mathfrak g}$ simple of classical type, we prove that for a Losev-Premet ideal $I$ in $U({\mathfrak g})$, there exists a Losev-Premet ideal $I_0$ for a certain Levi subalgebra ${\mathfrak g}_0$ of ${\mathfrak g}$ such that associated variety of $I_0$ is the closure of a rigid nilpotent orbit in ${\mathfrak g}_0$ and $I$ is obtained from $I_0$ by parabolic induction. This is deduced from the corresponding statement about one-dimensional representations of finite $W$-algebras.

Abstract:Working over a field of characteristic zero, we give structure theorems for all grade three licci ideals and their minimal free resolutions. In particular, we completely classify such ideals up to deformation. The descriptions of their resolutions extend earlier results by Buchsbaum-Eisenbud, Brown, and Sanchez. Our primary tool is the theory of higher structure maps originating from the study of generic free resolutions of length three.

Abstract:We study ideals of Borel type, including $k$-Borel ideals and $t$-spread Veronese ideals. We determine their free resolutions and their homological shift ideals. The multiplicity and the analytic spread of equigenerated squarefree principal Borel ideals are computed. For the multiplicity, the result is given under an additional assumption which is always satisfied for squarefree principal Borel ideals. These results are used to analyze the behaviour of height, multiplicity and analytic spread of the homological shift ideals $HS_j(I)$ as functions of $j$, when $I$ is an equigenerated squarefree Borel ideal.

Abstract:. Let K/k be a finite abelian extension of function fields with Galois group G . Using the Stickelberger elements associated to K/k studied by J. Tate, P. Deligne and D. Hayes, we construct an ideal I in the integral group ring ℤ[G] relative to the extension K/k , whose elements annihilate the group of divisor classes of degree zero of K and whose rank is equal to the degree of the extension. When K/k is a (wide or narrow) ray class extension, we compute the index of I in ℤ[G] , which is equal to the divisor class number of K up to a trivial factor.

Abstract:Inspired by the notion of König graphs we introduce graded ideals of König type with respect to a monomial order $<$. It is shown that if $I$ is of König type, then the Cohen--Macaulay property of $\ini_<(I)$ does not depend on the characteristic of the base field. This happens to be the case also for $I$ itself when $I$ is a binomial edge ideal. Attached to an ideal of König type is a sequence of linear forms, whose elements are variables or differences of variables. This sequence is a system of parameters for $\ini_<(I)$, and is a potential system of parameters for $I$ itself. We study in detail the ideals of König type among the edge ideals, binomial edge ideals and the toric ideal of a Hibi ring and use the König property to determine explicitly their canonical module.

Abstract:Using the theory of "higher structure maps" from generic rings for free resolutions of length three, we give a classification of grade 3 perfect ideals with small type and deviation in local rings of equicharacteristic zero, extending the Buchsbaum-Eisenbud structure theorem on Gorenstein ideals and realizing it as the type D case of an ADE correspondence. We also deduce restrictions on Betti tables in the graded setting for such ideals.

Abstract:In this article, we describe the lattice of ideals of some Green biset functors. We consider Green biset functors which satisfy that each evaluation is a finite dimensional split semisimple commutative algebra and use the idempotents in these evaluations to characterize any ideal of these Green biset functors. For this we will give the definition of M C-group, this definition generalizes that of a B-group, given for the Burnside functor. Given a Green biset functor A, with the above hypotheses, the set of all M C-groups of A has a structure of a poset and we prove that there exists an isomorphism of lattices between the set of ideals of A and the set of upward closed subsets of the M C-groups of A.

Abstract:A chopped ideal is obtained from a homogeneous ideal by considering only the generators of a fixed degree. We investigate cases in which the chopped ideal defines the same finite set of points as the original one-dimensional ideal. The complexity of computing these points from the chopped ideal is governed by the Hilbert function and regularity. We conjecture values for these invariants and prove them in many cases. We show that our conjecture is of practical relevance for symmetric tensor decomposition.
