Abstract:Surender Pal Joshi one of the finest artist of India. Who was very much established in his field. He had his own style for his art works and that is why he was also known as an experimentalist, as he was always ready to come up with new experiments. His art works hold a very wonderful charm that everyone who sees them, tends to get mesmerized. He was born in the year 1958 in a village close to Dehradun. He did his primary and secondary education from Dehradun itself. After that he shifted to Rishikesh for his BA (Bachelor’s In arts) and then did his B.F.A (Bachelor’s in fine arts) from Lucknow University. He completed his BFA in 1985 as the top performer in the entire college. After that he went to Jaipur for further studies and from there itself his actual journey of becoming one of the finest artist of India started. He came up with new Creativity, New experiments, and a whole new series of his art works. Many of them were exhibited at Lalit Kala academy Jaipur in 1988 and it received a lot of appreciation. His paintings also used to depict an essence of Sufi assembly. He was also quite influenced by the great poet "Kabir" and did made many art works that used to portray Kabir's sayings. And that's how he got to know about the power of experimantalism. His art works also used to depict an essence of mother nature. And gradually he understood his areas of strength. With the power of his imagination and experiments he started his own journey of failures and success.With time he started making his art works in different mediums like Metal, Board ceramic, Tera Cota, Wood steel, Glass, brass and what not. He tried everything that was possible whatever seemed not. made it possible too. Not only in India but his art works started receiving appreciation from other countries too. Became an international name. He was also bestowed with National awards. Now he started with a different form that was modern art works but with a traditional touch. His series were also named as " Taana-Baana". With years of hard work, risk taking abilities, with power of his imagination and experiments he became a sensation. And was always appreciated for his great ideas and designs. He was also called to visit various countries. He was also a professor in School of Art and served their from 1988 till 2004. He tool VRS and then decided to be a free artist. His years of hard work got him many awards, scholarships, and Fellowships. In 2013, impressed with his hard work and dedication, The Uttarakhand government proposed an idea to make a museum for him with all his art works installed. It was inaugurated in 2016. And in 2018 this great man departed from this world, leaving behind a whole big Era. He'll always be alive in our hearts, and I'll always be grateful for his teachings and guidance

Entangled Literary Genres in Syriac from Malabar in the Aftermath of the Synod of Diamper (1599)

Abstract:During the second half of the sixteenth and the first half of the seventeenth centuries, the Syriac literary heritage of the Malabar Christians shifted from a standard East Syriac (“Nestorian”) canon of texts to a Catholic post-Tridentine literary output in Syriac, a fusion of Western (Latin) and Middle Eastern (Syriac) sources and elements. The present article analyzes the literary networks of the community of the Malabar Christians, as expressed in the production of Syriac texts undertaken by the Catholic missionaries and arguably their Indian Syriacist pupils. The period under investigation is around the time of the Synod of Diamper (1599), a turning point in the ecclesiastical history of Malabar. The synod marked the Portuguese’s attempt to impose Tridentine Catholicism on the Malabar Christians and ordered to correct their Syriac books according to Catholic Orthodoxy or burn them as heretical. My paper focuses on the relationship between (1) collections of sermons and (2) liturgical poetry, since these two are entangled literary genres. Occasionally Syriac sermons (translated from Latin or composed on the spot by Catholic missionaries) were replicated in liturgical poetry and show the chains of transmission of Syriac knowledge from Catholic teachers (especially Jesuits) to their Indian students. Such relationship between literary genres comes clearly to the fore in the case of prose compositions coming arguably from the Syriacising circles of Francisco Ros, the first European Bishop of the Malabar Christians (1601-1624), and newly discovered pieces of Syriac poetry which might have been written by his Indian disciple Alexander the Indian/Kadavil Chandy Kattanar (1588-1673). The groups of texts under discussion show the transfer of knowledge from both the Latin West and the Syriac-speaking Middle East that created a new theological literary culture for the Malabar Christians as an expression of the Jesuit missionary principle of *accommodatio*. Source analysis of such texts allows one to dive into various aspects of the ecclesiastical and confessional life of the Malabar Christians, and into the cross-cultural encounters between them and the Catholic missionaries.

Abstract:George K. Kambara has been a leader in ophthalmic education and practice on the West Coast. His choice of ophthalmology arose in part because of his experience running an eye, ear, nose, and throat clinic while interned as a Japanese American during World War II. His training took him from San Francisco, to the Tule Lake Relocation Center, to the Memphis Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, to the University of Wisconsin, and eventually back to Los Angeles. He saw both sides of discrimination, as a Japanese American in California and as a "white" in the South. He was turned down for positions that he should have had based on his education, but he was also supported by many individuals who put aside public fears to help him. His story shows a triumph of the spirit, but is also a reminder of dark times that should not be forgotten.

Abstract:This tribute to the work and legacy of Belgian filmmaker, writer, and installation artist Chantal Akerman, by a scholar of her work who also knew the filmmaker, is written in short paragraphs beginning with the phrase “I remember,” each recounted memory leading into the next. The format is derived from writer Georges Perec, and the essay connects these artists through their experiences as Holocaust survivors or children of survivors. Touching on Akerman’s Jewish heritage, her early success with the film Jeanne Dielman: 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (Belgium/France, 1975), and the particularities of films from News from Home (France/Belgium, 1976) to Almayer’s Folly (France/Belgium, 2011), the piece finds Akerman’s memory as much in vivid quotidian images as in her indelible artistic contributions.

Abstract:The present paper entitled The Mobile Identities attempts to examine the aftermath of migration especially from south India to gulf countries as portrayed in the film Pathemari directed by Salim Ahmed. He had already thrived in delineating the intricacies and conflicts in the lives of ordinary human beings through his previous award winning projects such as Abu, Son of Adam and Kujanathantekada. Pathemari also can be regarded as a similar attempt to project the stark realities of life faced by people during a particular time in history in particular and of present times in general. The paper attempts to analyze the life and character of the protagonist Narayan ranging from childhood to death by considering the different aspects of his livelihood such as family ties broken relationships, his unrelenting affection for his native place and the nature of treatment received from his homeland. The major objective of the study is to scrutinize how much the film succeeded to convey the undesirable effects of being driven from one’s own culture and community such as identity crisis, the feeling of alienation and the sense of disinheritance. Thus this study can be described as an endeavor to think over the various effects of kinesis; both individually and socially.

Abstract:Sudha Murty is a successful modern day writer whose works have been translated into many languages. Sudha Murty being a rational, resourceful and emotional woman understands that social equality is must for each and every individual. She is a recipient of many awards and the most reputable amongst them are the Padma Shri Award and the R.K.Narayan’s Award for her remarkable contribution in the field of thought provoking and motivation literature in India. On reading the novel “Gently Falls the Bakula” one can sense her best feelings that numerous couples undergo social and psychological problems. The book “Mahashweta” depicts the “skin deep” (Leukoderma) nature of relations that is revealed in things are unstable and may be even dangerous. The novel “Dollar Bahu” teach us valuable lesson that mere dollar cannot buy love and respect. The novel “Wise and Otherwise: a salute to life,” consists of 51 short anecdotes each one imparting vital human values. The “House of Cards” novel analyzes how ambition leads a person in pursuit of sovereignty and material wealth which leads to corruption and slowly the breakdown of family life and individuals.
