Abstract:Let $\mathfrak a$ be an algebraic Lie subalgebra of a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ with index $\mathfrak a \leq \rank \mathfrak g$. Let $Y(\mathfrak a)$ denote the algebra of $\mathfrak a$ invariant polynomial functions on $\mathfrak a^*$. An algebraic slice for $\mathfrak a$ is an affine subspace $\eta+V$ with $\eta \in \mathfrak a^*$ and $V \subset \mathfrak a^*$ a subspace of dimension index $\mathfrak a$ such that restriction of function induces an isomorphism of $Y(\mathfrak a)$ onto the algebra $R[\eta+V]$ of regular functions on $\eta+V$. Slices have been obtained in a number of cases through the construction of an adapted pair $(h,\eta)$ in which $h \in\mathfrak a$ is ad-semisimple, $\eta$ is a regular element of $\mathfrak a^*$ which is an eigenvector for $h$ of eigenvalue minus one and $V$ is an $h$ stable complement to $(\ad \mathfrak a)\eta$ in $\mathfrak a^*$. The classical case is for $\mathfrak g$ semisimple. Yet rather recently many other cases have been provided. For example if $\mathfrak g$ is of type $A$ and $\mathfrak a$ is a "truncated biparabolic" or a centralizer. In some of these cases (particular when the biparabolic is a Borel subalgebra) it was found that $\eta$ could be taken to be the restriction of a regular nilpotent element in $\mathfrak g$. Moreover this calculation suggested how to construct slices outside type $A$ when no adapted pair exists. This article makes a first step in taking these ideas further. Specifically let $\mathfrak a$ be a truncated biparabolic of index one (and then $\mathfrak g$ is of type $A$). In this case it is shown that the second member of an adapted pair $(h,\eta)$ for $\mathfrak a$ is the restriction of a particularly carefully chosen regular nilpotent element of $\mathfrak g$.

Abstract:We construct a moduli space for the connected subgroups of an algebraic group and the corresponding universal family. Morphisms from an algebraic variety to this moduli space correspond to flat families of connected algebraic subgroups parametrised by this variety. This moduli space is obtained by gluing together infinitely many irreducible projective varieties of bounded dimension along closed subvarieties. Regarding families of non-connected subgroups of an algebraic group, we show that, given sich a family, the corresponding family of identity components is an irreducible component of the former, and the quotient of a family of groups group by the family of their identity components exists.

Abstract:Universal cycles, such as De Bruijn cycles, are cyclic sequences of symbols that represent every combinatorial object from some family exactly once as a consecutive subsequence. Graph universal cycles are a graph analogue of universal cycles introduced in 2010. We introduce graph universal partial cycles, a more compact representation of graph classes, which use “do not know” edges. We show how to construct graph universal partial cycles for labeled graphs, threshold graphs, and permutation graphs. For threshold graphs and permutation graphs, we demonstrate that the graph universal cycles and graph universal partial cycles are closely related to universal cycles and compressed universal cycles, respectively. Using the same connection, for permutation graphs, we define and prove the existence of an s-overlap form of graph universal cycles. We also prove the existence of a generalized form of graph universal cycles for unlabeled graphs.

Abstract:In this paper we summarize some known facts on slice topology in the quaternionic case, and we deepen some of them by proving new results and discussing some examples. We then show, following [18], how this setting allows us to generalize slice analysis to the general case of functions with values in a real left alternative algebra, which includes the case of slice monogenic functions with values in Clifford algebra. Moreover, we further extend slice analysis, in one and several variables, to functions with values in a Euclidean space of even dimension. In this framework, we study the domains of slice regularity, we prove some extension properties and the validity of a Taylor expansion for a slice regular function.

Abstract:A subgraph-universal graph/a topological minor-universal graph in a class of graphs $\mathcal{G}$ is a graph in $\mathcal{G}$ which contains every graph in $\mathcal{G}$ as a subgraph/topological minor. We prove that the class $\mathcal{P}$ of all countable planar graphs does not contain a topological minor-universal graph. This answers a question of Diestel and Kühn and strengthens a result of Pach stating that there is no subgraph-universal graph in $\mathcal{P}$. Furthermore, we characterise for which subdivided stars $T$ there is a topological minor-universal graph in the class of all countable $T$-free graphs.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a countable group that is the fundamental group of a graph of groups with finite edge groups and vertex groups that satisfy the strong Atiyah conjecture over $K \subseteq \mathbb{C}$ a field closed under complex conjugation. Assume that the orders of finite subgroups of $G$ are bounded above. We show that $G$ satisfies the strong Atiyah conjecture over $K$. In particular, this implies that the strong Atiyah conjecture is closed under free products. Moreover, we prove that the $\ast$-regular closure of $K[G]$ in $\mathcal{U}(G)$, $\mathcal{R}_{\small K[G]}$, is a universal localization of the graph of rings associated to the graph of groups, where the rings are the corresponding $\ast$-regular closures. As a result, we obtain that the algebraic and center-valued Atiyah conjecture over $K$ are also closed under the graph of groups construction provided that the edge groups are finite. We also infer some consequences on the structure of the $K_0$ and $K_1$-groups of $\mathcal{R}_{\small K[G]}$. The techniques developed allow us to prove that $K[G]$ fulfills the strong, algebraic and center-valued Atiyah conjectures and that $\mathcal{R}_{\small K[G]}$ is the universal localization of $K[G]$ over the set of all matrices that become invertible in $\mathcal{U}(G)$ if $G$ lies in a certain class of groups $\mathcal{T}_{\small \mathcal{VLI}}$, which contains in particular virtually-{locally indicable} groups that are the fundamental group of a graph of virtually free groups.

Abstract:This thesis consists of two parts: the construction of a jointly universal family of graphs, and then an exploration of set-theoretic geology. Firstly we shall construct a model in which $2^{\aleph_{\omega_1}}=2^{\aleph_{\omega_1+1}}=\aleph_{\omega_1+3}$ but there is a jointly universal family of size $\aleph_{\omega_1+2}$ of graphs on $\aleph_{\omega_1+1}$. We take a supercompact cardinal $\kappa$ and will use Radin forcing with interleaved collapses to change $\kappa$ into $\aleph_{\omega_1}$. Prior to the Radin forcing we perform a preparatory iteration to add functions from $\kappa^+$ into Radin names for what will become members of the jointly universal family on $\kappa^+$. The same technique can be used with any uncountable cardinal in place of $\omega_1$. Secondly we explore various topics in set-theoretic geology. We begin by showing that a class Easton support iteration of $\mathrm{Add}(\kappa,1)$ at $\kappa$ regular results in a universe that is its own generic mantle. We then consider set forcings $\mathbb{P}$, $\mathbb{Q}$, $\mathbb{R}$ and $\mathbb{S}$ with respective generics $G$, $H$, $I$ and $J$ such that $V[G][I]=V[H][J]$ and show that $V[G]$ and $V[H]$ must have a shared ground via $(|\mathbb{R}|+|\mathbb{S}|)^+$-cc forcing. This allows a similar analysis of the related situation when $\mathbb{P}$ is replaced by a class iteration and $V[H]$ by a generic ground of $V[G]$. We conclude with a simple characterisation of the mantle of a class forcing extension, and an investigation of the possibilities for a version of the intermediate model theorem that applies to class forcing.

Abstract:In this paper, we review the notion of generalized partial-slice monogenic functions that was introduced by the authors in Xu and Sabadini (Generalized partial-slice monogenic functions, arXiv:2309.03698, 2023). The class of these functions includes both the theory of monogenic functions and of slice monogenic functions over Clifford algebras and it is obtained via a synthesis operator which combines a generalized Cauchy–Riemann operator with an operator acting on slices. Besides recalling the fundamental features, we provide a notion of -product based on the CK-extension and discuss the smoothness of generalized partial-slice functions.

Abstract:Monographs are graph-like structures with directed edges of unlimited length that are freely adjacent to each other. The standard nodes are represented as edges of length zero. They can be drawn in a way consistent with standard graphs and many others, like E-graphs or $\infty$-graphs. The category of monographs share many properties with the categories of graph structures (algebras of monadic many-sorted signatures), except that there is no terminal monograph. It is universal in the sense that its slice categories (or categories of typed monographs) are equivalent to the categories of graph structures. Type monographs thus emerge as a natural way of specifying graph structures. A detailed analysis of single and double pushout transformations of monographs is provided, and a notion of attributed typed monographs generalizing typed attributed E-graphs is analyzed w.r.t. attribute-preserving transformations.

Abstract:The sliced skein algebra of a closed surface of genus $g$ with $m$ punctures, $\mathfrak{S}=\Sigma_{g,m}$, is the quotient of the Kauffman bracket skein algebra $\mathcal{S}_\xi(\mathfrak{S})$ corresponding to fixing the scalar values of its peripheral curves. We show that the sliced skein algebra of a finite type surface is a domain if the ground ring is a domain. When the quantum parameter $\xi$ is a root of unity we calculate the center of the sliced skein algebra and its PI-degree. Among applications we show that any smooth point of a sliced character variety is a fully Azumaya point of the skein algebra $\mathcal{S}_\xi(\mathfrak{S})$. For any $SL_2(\mathbb{C})$--representation $\rho$ of the fundamental group of an oriented connected 3-manifold $M$ and a root of unity $\xi$ with odd $ord(\xi^2)$, we introduce the $\rho$-reduced skein module $\mathcal{S}_{\xi,\rho}(M)$. We show that $\mathcal{S}_{\xi,\rho}(M)$ has dimension 1 when $M$ is closed and $\rho$ is irreducible. We also show that if $\rho$ is irreducible the $\rho$-reduced skein module of a handlebody, as a module over the skein algebra of its boundary, is simple and has the dimension equal to the PI-degree of the skein algebra of its boundary.

Abstract:The $n$-slice algebra is introduced as a generalization of path algebra in higher dimensional representation theory. In this paper, we give a classification of $n$-slice algebras via their $(n+1)$-preprojective algebras and the trivial extensions of their quadratic duals. One can always relate tame $n$-slice algebras to the McKay quiver of a finite subgroup of $\mathrm{GL}(n+1, \mathbb C)$. In the case of $n=2$, we describe the relations for the $2$-slice algebras related to the McKay quiver of finite Abelian subgroups of $\mathrm{SL}(3, \mathbb C)$ and of the finite subgroups obtained from embedding $\mathrm{SL}(2, \mathbb C)$ into $\mathrm{SL}(3,\mathbb C)$.

Abstract:Let $V$ be a finite dimensional $k$-vector space, where $k$ is an algebraic closed field of characteristic zero. Let $G \subseteq\ mathrm{SL}(V)$ be a finite abelian group, and denote by $S$ the $G$-invariant subring of the polynomial ring $k[V]$. It is shown that the singularity category $D_{sg}(S)$ recovers the reduced singular locus of $\mathrm{Spec}(S)$.

Universality for graphs with bounded density

Abstract:A graph $G$ is $\textit{universal}$ for a (finite) family $\mathcal{H}$ of graphs if every $H \in \mathcal{H}$ is a subgraph of $G$. For a given family $\mathcal{H}$, the goal is to determine the smallest number of edges an $\mathcal{H}$-universal graph can have. With the aim of unifying a number of recent results, we consider a family of graphs with bounded density. In particular, we construct a graph with $O_d\left( n^{2 - 1/(\lceil d \rceil + 1)} \right)$ edges which contains every $n$-vertex graph with density at most $d \in \mathbb{Q}$ ($d \ge 1$), which is close to a lower bound $\Omega(n^{2 - 1/d - o(1)})$ obtained by counting lifts of a carefully chosen (small) graph. When restricting the maximum degree of such graphs to be constant, we obtain a near-optimal universality. If we further assume $d \in \mathbb{N}$, we get an asymptotically optimal construction.

Abstract:In this paper we study the algebra of graph invariants, focusing mainly on the invariants of simple graphs. All other invariants, such as sorted eigenvalues, degree sequences and canonical permutations, belong to this algebra. In fact, every graph invariant is a linear combination of the basic graph invariants which we study in this paper. To prove that two graphs are isomorphic, a number of basic invariants are required, which are called separator invariants. The minimal set of separator invariants is also the minimal basic generator set for the algebra of graph invariants. We find lower and upper bounds for the minimal number of generator/separator invariants needed for proving graph isomorphism. Finally we find a sufficient condition for Ulam's conjecture to be true based on Redfield's enumeration formula.

Universal families of twisted cotangent bundles

Abstract:Given a complex algebraic group $G$ and complex $G$-variety $X$, one can study the affine Hamiltonian Lagrangian (AHL) $G$-bundles over $X$. Lisiecki indexes the isomorphism classes of such bundles in the case of a homogeneous $G$-variety $X=G/H$; the indexing set is the set of $H$-fixed points $(\mathfrak{h}^*)^H\subset\mathfrak{h}^*$, where $\mathfrak{h}$ is the Lie algebra of $H$. In very rough terms, one may regard $\psi\in(\mathfrak{h}^*)^H$ as labeling the isomorphism class of a $\psi$-twisted cotangent bundle of $G/H$. These twisted cotangent bundles feature prominently in geometric representation theory and symplectic geometry. We introduce and examine the notion of a universal family of AHL $G$-bundles over a $G$-variety $X$. This is a flat family $\pi:\mathcal{U}\longrightarrow Y$, in which $\mathcal{U}$ is a Poisson variety, the fibers of $\pi$ form a complete list of representatives of the isomorphism classes of AHL $G$-bundles over $X$, and other pertinent properties are satisfied. Our first main result is the construction of a universal family of AHL $G$-bundles over a homogeneous base $X=G/H$, for connected $H$. In our second main result, we take $\mathfrak{g}$ to be a complex semisimple Lie algebra, $G$ to be the adjoint group of $\mathfrak{g}$, and $X$ to be a conjugacy class $\mathcal{C}$ of parabolic subalgebras of $\mathfrak{g}$. We give an incidence-theoretic construction of a universal family of AHL $G$-bundles over $\mathcal{C}$. One virtue of this construction is that it is intrinsic to $\mathcal{C}$, i.e. done without writing $\mathcal{C}$ as $G/P$. The universal families that we obtain are closely related to the partial Grothendieck-Springer resolutions.

Abstract:We develop a new general framework for algebras and clones, called Universal Clone Algebra. Algebras and clones of finitary operations are to Universal Algebra what t-algebras and clone algebras are to Universal Clone Algebra. Clone algebras have been recently introduced to found a one-sorted, purely algebraic theory of clones, while t-algebras are first introduced in this article. We present a method to codify algebras and clones into t-algebras and clone algebras, respectively. We provide concrete examples showing that general results in Universal Clone Algebra, when translated in terms of algebras and clones, give more powerful versions of known theorems in Universal Algebra. We apply this methodology to Birkhoff's HSP theorem and to the recent topological versions of Birkhoff's theorem.
