Abstract:We construct a moduli space for the connected subgroups of an algebraic group and the corresponding universal family. Morphisms from an algebraic variety to this moduli space correspond to flat families of connected algebraic subgroups parametrised by this variety. This moduli space is obtained by gluing together infinitely many irreducible projective varieties of bounded dimension along closed subvarieties. Regarding families of non-connected subgroups of an algebraic group, we show that, given sich a family, the corresponding family of identity components is an irreducible component of the former, and the quotient of a family of groups group by the family of their identity components exists.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to construct a moduli space for representing the connected subgroups of a complex algebraic group \(G\), and to construct the corresponding universal family. Specifically, the main objectives of the paper can be summarized as follows: 1. **Constructing the moduli space**: - Construct a moduli space \(\mathcal{P}\) such that a morphism from any algebraic variety \(P\) to \(\mathcal{P}\) corresponds to a connected algebraic subgroup of a flat family parameterized by \(P\). - This moduli space \(\mathcal{P}\) is formed by gluing infinitely many irreducible projective varieties along closed sub - varieties. 2. **Constructing the universal family**: - Construct a universal family \(\mathcal{H}\), which is a sub - variety contained in \(G\times\mathcal{P}\), such that the projection \(\mathcal{H}\to\mathcal{P}\) is a flat morphism, and the schematic fiber \(\mathcal{H}_p\) at any \(p\in\mathcal{P}\) is a subgroup scheme of \(G\). - Prove that this universal family \(\mathcal{H}\) has the property of a final object, that is, for any flat family \(H\) parameterized by \(P\), there exists a unique morphism \(\psi: P\to\mathcal{P}\) such that \(H\cong\psi^*\mathcal{H}\). 3. **Studying non - connected subgroup families**: - Discuss the case of non - connected subgroup families, in particular, show that the identity component family of a non - connected subgroup family is irreducible, and a quotient family can be constructed. ### Main results - **Theorem 4.7**: Let \(P\) be an algebraic variety, denote \(F\) as the set of flat families of \(k\)-dimensional connected subgroups parameterized by \(P\), and \(M\) as the set of ringed - space morphisms from \(P\) to \(\mathcal{P}\). Then the mapping \(F\to M\) which maps a family \(H\) to the morphism associated with \(L(H)\), and the mapping \(M\to F\) which maps a morphism \(\psi\) to the family \(\psi^*\mathcal{H}\), define a natural correspondence between \(F\) and \(M\). - **Theorem 3.6**: Let \(P\) be an irreducible constructible subset of \(\Lambda\). If \(P\) is contained in \(A\), then the closure \(\bar{P}\) of \(P\) in \(\Lambda\) is also contained in \(A\), and \(H(\bar{P})\) is equal to \(\bar{H}(P)\). ### Methods and techniques - **Differentiation and integration**: Through the study of Lie algebras, the paper explores the differentiation and integration of flat families. In particular, the family of Lie algebras is integrated back to the family of algebraic groups through the exponential map. - **Semi - continuity**: Using the rigidity theorem of the Levi - Malcev decomposition of Lie algebras, it is proved that certain discrete invariants exhibit semi - continuity in the family. - **Construction of the moduli space**: A moduli space \(\mathcal{P}\) is constructed by gluing infinitely many irreducible projective varieties along closed sub - varieties. ### Applications and examples - The paper discusses several specific examples, such as tori, abelian varieties, \(\text{SL}_2\) and \(\text{SL}_3\)
