Abstract:Osteoarthritis is a common, painful and disabling long-term condition. Delivery of high-quality guideline-informed osteoarthritis care that successfully promotes and maintains supported self-management is imperative. However, osteoarthritis care remains inconsistent, including under use of core non-pharmacological approaches of education, exercise and weight loss.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about how to improve community pharmacy services for osteoarthritis patients. Specifically, the research aims to address the following issues: 1. **The current role of community pharmacies in osteoarthritis care**: It is still unclear what kind of expanded role community pharmacies should play in osteoarthritis care and what support is required to provide such expanded services. 2. **The feasibility and acceptance of expanding the role of community pharmacies**: The research needs to explore whether this expanded role is feasible and can be accepted by the community pharmacy team. 3. **The views of patients and healthcare professionals**: Understand the views of patients, healthcare professionals and pharmacy staff on the current role of community pharmacies and their views on potential expanded roles. 4. **The design of service models**: Based on the results of the above - mentioned surveys and interviews, jointly design a new community pharmacy service model (PharmOA model) with stakeholders to better manage and support osteoarthritis patients. 5. **The development of tools**: Develop or improve existing tools to support the community pharmacy team in implementing these expanded roles. By solving these problems, the research hopes to increase the chances of osteoarthritis patients receiving high - quality, consistent guideline - recommended care, thereby improving their quality of life and self - management ability.
