Abstract:We study a class of A∞-algebras, named (2,p)-algebras, which is related to the class of p-homogeneous algebras, especially to the class of p-Koszul algebras. A general method to construct (2,p)-algebras is given. Koszul dual of a connected graded algebra is defined in terms of A∞-algebra. It is proved that a p-homogeneous algebra A is p-Koszul if and only if the Koszul dual E(A) is a reduced (2,p)-algebra and generated by E1(A). The (2,p)-algebra structure of the Koszul dual E(A) of a p-Koszul algebra A is described explicitly. A necessary and sufficient condition for a p-homogeneous algebra to be a p-Koszul algebra is also given when the higher multiplications on the Koszul dual are ignored.

Abstract:It is the main objective of this paper to show a vanishing result for cuspidal cohomology of arithmetic groups in classical groups~$G$ defined over some number field~$k$.Our approach relies on the fact that cuspidal automorphic forms are nonsingular in the sense of Howe. This result puts a strong constraint on the (archimedean components of) irreducible cuspidal automorphic representations of $G$that can possibly contribute to the cuspidal cohomology. Combining this with the classification of Vogan-Zuckerman of unitary representations with nonzero cohomologyprovides a constant $r_0(G/k)$, only depending on $G/k$, below which the cuspidal cohomology vanishes. We will give a formula for this constant for each classical group of type (I) in the classification scheme due to Weil. We conclude with making this result explicit for some split classical groups over a totally real algebraic number field.
On the triviality of the unramified Iwasawa modules of the maximal multiple $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions

Abstract:For a number field $k$ and an odd prime number $p$, we consider the maximal multiple $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $\tilde{k}$ of $k$ and the unramified Iwasawa module $X(\tilde{k})$, which is the Galois group of the maximal unramified abelian $p$-extension over $\tilde{k}$. In the present article, we discus classifying CM-fields $k$ which are decomposed completely at $p$ such that $X(\tilde{k})=0$.

Abstract:Let $H$ be a Krull monoid with finite class group $G$ such that every class contains a prime divisor (for example, a ring of integers in an algebraic number field or a holomorphy ring in an algebraic function field). The catenary degree $\mathsf c (H)$ of $H$ is the smallest integer $N$ with the following property: for each $a \in H$ and each two factorizations $z, z'$ of $a$, there exist factorizations $z = z_0, ..., z_k = z'$ of $a$ such that, for each $i \in [1, k]$, $z_i$ arises from $z_{i-1}$ by replacing at most $N$ atoms from $z_{i-1}$ by at most $N$ new atoms. Under a very mild condition on the Davenport constant of $G$, we establish a new and simple characterization of the catenary degree. This characterization gives a new structural understanding of the catenary degree. In particular, it clarifies the relationship between $\mathsf c (H)$ and the set of distances of $H$ and opens the way towards obtaining more detailed results on the catenary degree. As first applications, we give a new upper bound on $\mathsf c(H)$ and characterize when $\mathsf c(H)\leq 4$.

On the $K$-theory of the $p$-adic unit disk

Abstract:In this note, we study the $p$-complete topological cyclic homology of the affine line relative to a ring $A$ which is smooth over a perfectoid ring $R$. Denoting by $NTC(A; \mathbb{Z}_p)$ the spectrum which measures the failure of $\mathbb{A}^1$-invariance on $A$, we observe a kind of Quillen-Lichtenbaum phenomena for $NTC(A; \mathbb{Z}_p)$ -- that it is isomorphic to its own $K(1)$-localization in a specified range of degrees which depends on the relative dimension of $A$. Somewhat surprisingly, this range is better than considerations following from a theorem of Bhatt-Mathew and étale-to-syntomic comparisons. Via the Dundas-Goodwillie-McCarthy theorem, we obtain a description of the algebraic $K$-theory of $p$-completed affine line over such rings.

Abstract:We study $p$-adic operator algebras, which are nonarchimedean analogues of $C^*$-algebras. We demonstrate that various classical examples of operator algebras - such as group(oid) algebras - have a nonarchimedean counterpart. The category of $p$-adic operator algebras exhibits a similar flavor to the category of real and complex $C^*$-algebras, featuring limits, colimits, tensor products, crossed products and an enveloping construction permitting us to construct $p$-adic operator algebras from involutive algebras over $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$. Finally, we briefly discuss an analogue of topological $K$-theory for Banach $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$-algebras, and compute it in basic examples, like Cuntz algebras and rotation algebras.

Abstract:Let $k = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt {-m})$ and $p > 2$ split in $k$. We prove new properties of the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions $K/k$, distinct from the cyclotomic; we do not assume $K/k$ totally ramified, nor the triviality of the $p$-class group of $k$. These properties are governed by the $p$-valuation, $\delta_p(k)$, of a suitable Fermat quotient of the fundamental $p$-unit $x$ of $k$, which also yields the order of the logarithmic class group (2.2, App. A), and generalize the Gold-Sands criterion (5.1, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5). These results use the second element $(\mathcal{H}_{K_n}/\mathcal{H}_{K_n}^{G_n})^{G_n}$ of the filtration of the $p$-class groups in $K=\cup_n K_n$, without any argument of Iwasawa's theory, and provide new perspectives. We compute, Sec. 7, the first layer $K_1$, using the Log-function, then give a short proof of a result of Kundu-Washington (5.6), and show (7.4, 7.6) that capitulation is possible in $K$, suggesting Conjecture 5.8. Calculations are gathered App. B.

Abstract:Let G be a real, connected, noncompact, semisimple Lie group, let K be a maximal compact subgroup of G, and let g=k+p be the corresponding Cartan decomposition of the complexified Lie algebra of G. Sequences of strongly orthogonal noncompact weights are constructed and classified for each real noncompact simple Lie group of classical type. We show that for each partial subsequence there is a corresponding family of K_C-orbits, ordered by inclusion and such that the representation of K on the ring of regular functions on the closure of the orbit is multiplicity-free. The K-types of regular functions on the orbits and the regular functions on their closures are both explicitly identified and demonstrated to coincide, with one exception in the Hermitian symmetric case. The classification presented also includes the specification of a base point for each orbit and exhibits a corresponding system of restricted roots with multiplicities. A formula for the leading term of the Hilbert polynomials corresponding to these orbits is given. This formula, together with the restricted root data, allows the determination of the dimensions of these orbits and the algebraic-geometric degree of their closures. In an appendix, the location of these orbits within D. King's classification of spherical nilpotent orbits in complex symmetric spaces is depicted via signed partitions and Hasse diagrams.

Abstract:We discuss Euler characteristics for finitely generated modules over Iwasawa algebras. We show that the Euler characteristic of a module is well-defined whenever the 0th homology group is finite if and only if the relevant compact p-adic Lie group is finite-by-nilpotent and that in this case all pseudo-null modules have trivial Euler characteristic. We also prove some other results relating to the triviality of Euler characteristics for pseudo-null modules. We also prove some analogous results for the Akashi series of Coates et al.

Abstract:This article discusses variants of Weber's class number problem in the spirit of arithmetic topology to connect the results of Sinnott--Kisilevsky and Kionke. Let $p$ be a prime number. We first prove the $p$-adic convergence of class numbers in a $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of a global field and a similar result in a $\mathbb{Z}_p$-cover of a compact 3-manifold. Secondly, we establish an explicit formula for the $p$-adic limit of the $p$-power-th cyclic resultants of a polynomial using roots of unity of orders prime to $p$, the $p$-adic logarithm, and the Iwasawa invariants. Finally, we give thorough investigations of torus knots, twist knots, and elliptic curves; we complete the list of the cases with $p$-adic limits being in $\mathbb{Z}$ and find the cases such that the base $p$-class numbers are small and $\nu$'s are arbitrarily large.

Abstract:We give a systematic study of the model theory of generic nilpotent groups and Lie algebras. We show that the Fraïssé limit of 2-nilpotent groups of exponent $p$ studied by Baudisch is 2-dependent and NSOP$_{1}$. We prove that the class of $c$-nilpotent Lie algebras over an arbitrary field, in a language with predicates for a Lazard series, is closed under free amalgamation. We show that for $2 < c$, the generic $c$-nilpotent Lie algebra over $\mathbb{F}_{p}$ is strictly NSOP$_{4}$ and $c$-dependent. Via the Lazard correspondence, we obtain the same result for $c$-nilpotent groups of exponent $p$, for an odd prime $p > c$.

Abstract:Let $\ell$ and $p$ be distinct primes, and let $\Gamma$ be an abelian pro-$p$-group. We study the structure of the algebra $\Lambda:=\mathbb{Z}_\ell[[\Gamma]]$ and of $\Lambda$-modules. In the case $\Gamma\simeq \mathbb{Z}_p^d$, we consider a $\mathbb{Z}_p^d$-extension $K/k$ of a global field $k$ and use the structure theorems to provide explicit formulas for the orders and $\ell$-ranks of certain Iwasawa modules (namely $\ell$-class groups and $\ell$-Selmer groups) associated with the finite subextensions of $K$. We apply this new approach to provide different proofs and generalizations of results of Washington and Sinnott on $\ell$-class groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the module-theoretic structure of classical Iwasawa modules. More precisely, for a finite abelian $p$-extension $K/k$ of totally real fields and the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $K_{\infty}/K$, we consider $X_{K_{\infty},S}={\rm Gal}(M_{K_{\infty},S}/K_{\infty})$ where $S$ is a finite set of places of $k$ containing all ramifying places in $K_{\infty}$ and archimedean places, and $M_{K_{\infty},S}$ is the maximal abelian pro-$p$-extension of $K_{\infty}$ unramified outside $S$. We give lower and upper bounds of the minimal numbers of generators and of relations of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p[[{\rm Gal}(K_{\infty}/k)]]$-module, using the $p$-rank of ${\rm Gal}(K/k)$. This result explains the complexity of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p[[{\rm Gal}(K_{\infty}/k)]]$-module when the $p$-rank of ${\rm Gal}(K/k)$ is large. Moreover, we prove an analogous theorem in the setting that $K/k$ is non-abelian. We also study the Iwasawa adjoint of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$, and the minus part of the unramified Iwasawa module for a CM-extension. In order to prove these theorems, we systematically study the minimal resolutions of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$.

Abstract:We show that the modular isomorphism problem has a positive answer for groups of nilpotency class 2 with cyclic center, i.e. that for such p-groups G and H an isomorphism between the group algebras FG and FH implies an isomorphism of the groups G and H for F the field of p elements. For groups of odd order this implication is also proven for F being any field of characteristic p. For groups of even order we need either to make an additional assumption on the groups or on the field.

Abstract:Let F be a non-trivial finite extension of the p-adic numbers, and G be a compact p-adic Lie group whose Lie algebra is isomorphic to a split simple F-Lie algebra. We prove that the mod p Iwasawa algebra of G has no modules of canonical dimension one. One consequence is a new upper bound on the Krull dimension of the Iwasawa algebra. We also prove a canonical dimension-theoretic criterion for a mod p smooth admissible representation to be of finite length. Combining our results shows that any smooth admissible representation of $GL_n(F)$, with central character, has finite length if its dual has canonical dimension two.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a fixed prime number, and $F$ a global function field of characteristic not equal to $p$. In this paper, we shall study the growth of the Sylow $p$-subgroups of the even $K$-groups in a $p$-adic Lie extension of $F$, where the $p$-adic Lie extension is assumed to contain the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $F$. We also establish a duality between the direct limit and inverse limit of the even $K$-groups.

Abstract:Motivated by the Farrell-Jones Conjecture for group rings, we formulate the $\mathcal{C}$op-Farrell-Jones Conjecture for the K-theory of Hecke algebras of td-groups. We prove this conjecture for (closed subgroups of) reductive p-adic groups G. In particular, the projective class group $K_0(\mathcal{H}(G))$ for a (closed subgroup) of a reductive p-adic group G can be computed as a colimit of projective class groups $K_0(\mathcal{H}(U))$ where U varies over the compact open subgroups of G. This implies that all finitely generated smooth complex representations of a reductive p-adic G admit finite projective resolutions by compactly induced representations. For SL$_n(F)$ we translate the colimit formula for $K_0(\mathcal{H}(G))$ to a more concrete cokernel description in terms of stabilizers for the action on the Bruhat-Tits building. For negative K-theory we obtain vanishing results, while we identify the higher K-groups $K_n(\mathcal{H}(G))$ with the value of G-homology theory on the extended Bruhat-Tits building. Our considerations apply to general Hecke algebras of the form $\mathcal{H}(G;R,\rho,\omega)$, where we allow a central character $\omega$ and a twist by an action $\rho$ of G on R. For the $\mathcal{C}$op-Farrell-Jones Conjecture we need to assume $\mathbb{Q} \subseteq R$ and a regularity assumption. As a key intermediate step we introduce the $\mathcal{C}vcy-Farrell-Jones conjecture. For the latter no regularity assumptions on R are needed.

To exclude trivial cases, suppose that $|G| \ge 3$. Then the catenary degree depends only on the class group $G$ and we have $\mathsf c (H) \in [3, \mathsf D (G)]$, where $\mathsf D (G)$ denotes the Davenport constant of $G$. It is well-known when $\mathsf c (H) \in \{3,4, \mathsf D (G)\}$ holds true. Based on a characterization of the catenary degree determined in the first paper (The catenary degree of Krull monoids I), we determine the class groups satisfying $\mathsf c (H)= \mathsf D (G)-1$. Apart from the mentioned extremal cases the precise value of $\mathsf c (H)$ is known for no further class groups.
