Abstract:We consider the nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger-Langevin equation for both signs of the logarithmic nonlinearity. We explicitly compute the dynamics of Gaussian solutions for large times, which is obtained through the study of a particular nonlinear differential equation of order 2. We then give the asymptotic behavior of general energy weak solutions under some regularity assumptions. Some numerical simulations are performed in order to corroborate the theoretical results.

Abstract:We consider the Schrödinger equation with a nondispersive logarithmic nonlinearity and a repulsive harmonic potential. For a suitable range of the coefficients, there exist two positive stationary solutions, each one generating a continuous family of solitary waves. These solutions are Gaussian, and turn out to be orbitally unstable. We also discuss the notion of ground state in this setting: for any natural definition, the set of ground states is empty.

Abstract:We study the logarithmic Schrödinger equation with finite range potential on $\mathbb{R}^{\mathbb{Z}^d}$. Through a ground-state representation, we associate and construct a global Gibbs measure and show that it satisfies a logarithmic Sobolev inequality. We find estimates on the solutions in arbitrary dimension and prove the existence of weak solutions to the infinite-dimensional Cauchy problem.

Abstract:We initiate the study of the asymptotic behavior of small solutions to one-dimensional Klein-Gordon equations with variable coefficient quadratic nonlinearities. The main discovery in this work is a striking resonant interaction between specific spatial frequencies of the variable coefficient and the temporal oscillations of the solutions. In the resonant case a novel type of modified scattering behavior occurs that exhibits a logarithmic slow-down of the decay rate along certain rays. In the non-resonant case we introduce a new variable coefficient quadratic normal form and establish sharp decay estimates and asymptotics in the presence of a critically dispersing constant coefficient cubic nonlinearity. The Klein-Gordon models considered in this paper are motivated by the study of the asymptotic stability of kink solutions to classical nonlinear scalar field equations on the real line.

Abstract:In the current paper, a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger (gNLS) equation with logarithmic nonlinearity is studied as a model for the propagation of optical pulses. More precisely, after applying a specific hypothesis for the solution of the governing equation, its Gaussian solitary wave is retrieved using the ansatz method. Some numerical simulations in two- and three-dimensional postures are presented to investigate the impact of different physical parameters on Gaussian solitary wave' dynamics. Results confirm that the physical parameters of the gNLS equation have a key role in controlling the dynamics of the Gaussian solitary wave.

Abstract:This work focuses on the study of solitary wave solutions to a nonlocal, nonlinear Schr\"odinger system in $1$+$1$ dimensions with arbitrary nonlinearity parameter $\kappa$. Although the system we study here was first reported by Yang (Phys. Rev. E, 98 (2018), 042202) for the fully integrable case $\kappa=1$, we extend its considerations and offer criteria for soliton stability and instability as a function of $\kappa$. In particular, we show that for $\kappa <2$ the solutions are stable whereas for $\kappa >2$ they are subject to collapse or blowup. At the critical point of $\kappa=2$, there is a critical mass necessary for blowup or collapse. Furthermore, we show there is a simple one-component nonlocal Lagrangian governing the dynamics of the system which is amenable to a collective coordinate approximation. To that end, we introduce a trial wave function with two collective coordinates to study the small oscillations around the exact solution. We obtain analytical expressions for the small oscillation frequency for the width parameter in the collective coordinate approximation. We also discuss a four collective coordinate approximation which in turn breaks the symmetry of the exact solution by allowing for translational motion. The ensuing oscillations found in the latter case capture the response of the soliton to a small translation. Finally, our results are compared with numerical simulations of the system.
On an intercritical log-modified nonlinear Schrodinger equation in two spatial dimensions

Abstract:We consider a dispersive equation of Schr{ö}dinger type with a non-linearity slightly larger than cubic by a logarithmic factor. This equation is supposed to be an effective model for stable two dimensional quantum droplets with LHY correction. Mathematically, it is seen to be mass supercritical and energy subcritical with a sign-indefinite nonlinearity. For the corresponding initial value problem, we prove global in-time existence of strong solutions in the energy space. Furthermore, we prove the existence and uniqueness (up to symmetries) of nonlinear ground states and the orbital stability of the set of energy minimizers. We also show that for the corresponding model in 1D a stronger stability result is available.

Abstract:The instabilities observed in direct numerical simulations of the Gross–Neveu equation under linear and harmonic potentials are studied. The Lakoba algorithm, based on the method of characteristics, is performed to numerically obtain the two spinor components. We identify non-conservation of energy and charge in simulations with instabilities, and we find that all studied solitons are numerically stable, except the low-frequency solitons oscillating in the harmonic potential over long periods of time. These instabilities, as in the case of the Gross–Neveu equation without potential, can be removed by imposing absorbing boundary conditions. The dynamics of the soliton is in perfect agreement with the prediction obtained using an Ansatz with only two collective coordinates, namely, the position and momentum of the center of mass. We employ the temporal variation of both field energy and momentum to determine the evolution equations satisfied by the collective coordinates. By applying the same methodology, we also demonstrate the spurious character of the reported instabilities in the Alexeeva–Barashenkov–Saxena model under external potentials.

Abstract:We solve the Schr{ö}dinger equation with logarithmic nonlinearity and multiplicative spatial white noise on R d with d $\le$ 2. Because of the nonlinearity, the regularity structures and the paracontrolled calculus can not be used. To solve the equation, we rely on an exponential transform that has proven useful in the context of other singular SPDEs.

Abstract:This paper investigates a generalized form of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation characterized by a logarithmic nonlinearity. The nonlinear Schrödinger equation, a fundamental equation in nonlinear wave theory, is applied across various physical systems including nonlinear optics, Bose–Einstein condensates, and fluid dynamics. We specifically explore a logarithmic variant of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation to model complex wave phenomena that conventional polynomial nonlinearities fail to capture. We derive four distinct forms of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with logarithmic nonlinearity and provide exact solutions for each, encompassing bright, dark, and kink-type solitons, as well as a range of periodic solitary waves. Analytical techniques are employed to construct bounded and unbounded traveling wave solutions, and the dynamics of these solutions are analyzed through phase portraits of the associated dynamical systems. These findings extend the scope of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation to more accurately describe wave behaviors in complex media and open avenues for future research into non-standard nonlinear wave equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of Kirchhoff type logarithmic Schrödinger equations involving the critical or supercritical Sobolev exponent. Such problems cannot be studied by applying variational methods in a standard way, because the nonlinearities do not satisfy the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition and change sign. Moreover, the appearance of the logarithmic term makes the associated energy functional lose differentiable in the sense of Gateaux. By analyzing the structure of the Nehari manifold and developing some analysis techniques, the above obstacles are overcome in subtle ways and several existence result are obtained. Furthermore, we investigate the regularity, the monotonicity, and the symmetric properties of the solutions via the iterative technique and the moving plane method.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the existence and multiplicity of solutions for the logarithmic Schrödinger equation on lattice graphs $\mathbb{Z}^N$ $$ -\Delta u+V(x) u=u \log u^2, \quad x \in \mathbb{Z}^N, $$ When the potential $V$ is coercive, we obtain infinitely many solutions by adapting some arguments of the Fountain theorem. In the cases of periodic potential, asymptotically periodic potential and bounded potential, we first investigate the existence of ground state solutions via the variation methods, and then we generalize these results from $\mathbb{Z}^N$ to quasi-transitive graphs. Finally, we extend the main results of the paper to the $p$-Laplacian equation with the logarithmic nonlinearity.

Abstract:In this paper, we analyze the long-time dynamics of small solutions to the $1d$ cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with a trapping potential. We show that every small solution will decompose into a small solitary wave and a radiation term which exhibits the modified scattering. In particular, this result implies the asymptotic stability of small solitary waves. Our analysis also establishes the long-time behavior of solutions to a perturbation of the integrable cubic NLS with the appearance of solitons.

Abstract:Recent inspection of liquid-like state in ultracold atomic gases due to the stabilization mechanism through the delicate balance between effective mean-field and beyond mean-field (BMF) interactions, has motivated us to study the modified/extended Gross-Pitaevskii (eGP) equation which includes the BMF contribution. In this article, we focus on variational analysis of solitonic regime with eGP equation while the soliton is subjected to an obstacle. This reveals different scattering scenarios of the soliton with explicit dependence of the BMF interaction. The results show the existence of tunneling, partial and complete trappings, in different parameter domains. These observations are further corroborated by the fast-Fourier transform method. In the later part we also extend our analysis to trapped systems. The controlled trapping in defect potential and its release can be potentially useful for quantum information storage.

Abstract:We consider the one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with focusing, power nonlinearity, and a repulsive delta potential. We show that if the potential is not too strong, the construction by Nguy\~{ê}n (2019) of solutions converging strongly at time infinity to a pair of logarithmically separating solitons can be adapted to accommodate the effect of the potential. On the other hand, we show that if the potential is stronger, no such solutions exist.
