One of them gives an intriguing connection to a problem of counting holomorphic disks and annuli. Abstract:We study some arithmetic properties of the mirror maps and the quantum Yukawa couplings for some 1-parameter deformations of Calabi-Yau manifolds. First we use the Schwarzian differential equation, which we derived previously, to characterize the mirror map in each case. For algebraic K3 surfaces, we solve the equation in terms of theJ-function. By deriving explicit modular relations we prove that some K3 mirror maps are algebraic over the genus zero function fieldQ(J). This leads to a uniform proof that those mirror maps have integral Fourier coefficients. Regarding the maps as Riemann mappings, we prove that they are genus zero functions. By virtue of the Conway-Norton conjecture (proved by Borcherds using Frenkel-Lepowsky-Meurman's Moonshine module), we find that these maps are actually the reciprocals of the Thompson series for certain conjugacy classes in the Griess-Fischer group. This also gives, as an immediate consequence, a second proof that those mirror maps are integral. We thus conjecture a surprising connection between K3 mirror maps and the Thompson series. For threefolds, we construct a formal nonlinear ODE for the quantum coupling reduced modp. Under the mirror hypothesis and an integrality assumption, we derive modp congurences for the Fourier coefficients. For the quintics, we deduce, (at least for 5×d) that the degreed instanton numbersnd are divisible by 53 — a fact first conjectured by Clemens.

Abstract:This is an expository article on the A-side of Kontsevich's Homological Mirror Symmetry conjecture. We give first a self-contained study of $A_\infty$-categories and their homological algebra, and later restrict to Fukaya categories, with particular emphasis on the basics of the underlying Floer theory, and the geometric features therein. Finally, we place the theory in the context of mirror symmetry, building towards its main predictions.

Abstract:We show how the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for the quintic three-fold can be cast into a global mirror symmetry framework. Then we draw inspiration from Berglund-H\"ubsch mirror duality construction to provide an analogue conjectural picture featuring all Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces within weighted projective spaces and certain quotients by finite abelian group actions.

Abstract:We examine the physical significance of torsion co-cycles in the cohomology of a projective Calabi-Yau three-fold for the (2,2) superconformal field theory (SCFT) associated to the non-linear sigma model with such a manifold as a target space. There are two independent torsion subgroups in the cohomology. While one is associated to an orbifold construction of the SCFT, the other encodes the possibility of turning on a topologically non-trivial flat gerbe for the NS-NS B-field. Inclusion of these data enriches mirror symmetry by providing a refinement of the familiar structures and points to a generalization of the duality symmetry, where the topology of the flat gerbe enters on the same footing as the topology of the underlying manifold.

Abstract:We describe some recent development on the theory of formal Frobenius manifolds via a construction from differential Gerstenhaber-Batalin-Vilkovisk (DGBV) algebras and formulate a version of mirror symmetry conjecture: the extended deformation problems of the complex structure and the Poisson structure are described by two DGBV algebras; mirror symmetry is interpreted in term of the invariance of the formal Frobenius manifold structures under quasi-isomorphism.

Abstract:One of the attractions of homological mirror symmetry is that it not only implies the previous predictions of mirror symmetry (e.g., curve counts on the quintic), but it should in some sense be `less of a coincidence' than they are and therefore easier to prove. In this survey we explain how Seidel's approach to mirror symmetry via versality at the large volume/large complex structure limit makes this idea precise.

Abstract:We derive two geometric approaches to categorification of quantum invariants of links associated to an arbitrary compact simple Lie group $^L{G}$. In part I, we describe the first approach, based on an equivariant derived category of coherent sheaves on ${\cal X}$, the moduli space of singular $G$-monopoles, where $G$ is related to $^LG$ by Langlands duality. In part II, we describe the second approach, based on the derived category of a Fukaya-Seidel category of a Calabi-Yau $Y$ with potential $W$. The two approaches are related by a version of mirror symmetry, which plays a crucial role in the story. In part III, we explain the string theory origin of these results, and the relation to an approach due to Witten.

Abstract:The presented paper is a continuation of the series of papers [17, 18]. In this paper, utilizing Batyrev and Borisov's duality construction on nef-partitions, we generalize the recipe in [17,18] to construct a pair of singular double cover Calabi-Yau varieties ( Y, Y (nu) ) over toric manifolds and compute their topological Euler characteristics and Hodge numbers. In the 3 -dimensional cases, we show that ( Y, Y (nu) ) forms a topological mirror pair, i.e., h (p , q) ( Y ) = h (3 - p,q) ( Y (nu) ) for all p, q .

Abstract:We first give a complete, albeit brief, review of the discovery of mirror symmetry in $N=2$ string/conformal field theory. In particular, we describe the naturality arguments which led to the initial mirror symmetry conjectures and the subsequent work which established the existence of mirror symmetry through direct construction. We then review a number of striking consequences of mirror symmetry -- both conceptual and calculational. Finally, we describe recent work which introduces a variant on our original proof of the existence of mirror symmetry. This work affirms classical--quantum symmetry duality as well as extends the domain of our initial mirror symmetry construction.

Abstract:In this paper, we apply the idea of T-duality to projective spaces. From a connection on a line bundle on $\mathbb P^n$, a Lagrangian in the mirror Landau-Ginzburg model is constructed. Under this correspondence, the full strong exceptional collection $\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^n}(-n-1),...,\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^n}(-1)$ is mapped to standard Lagrangians in the sense of \cite{nz}. Passing to constructible sheaves, we explicitly compute the quiver structure of these Lagrangians, and find that they match the quiver structure of this exceptional collection of $\mathbb P^n$. In this way, T-duality provides quasi-equivalence of the Fukaya category generated by these Lagrangians and the category of coherent sheaves on $\mathbb P^n$, which is a kind of homological mirror symmetry.
On Mirror Symmetry and Irrationality of Zeta Values

Abstract:A fundamental object of study in mirror symmetry of $n$-dimensional Fano varieties is the A-side connection on small quantum cohomology. When the Picard rank is 1, the Borel transform relates the quantum differential operator of the Fano to the Picard-Fuchs operator of the mirror to the associated pencil of anticanonical Calabi-Yau $(n-1)$-folds on the Fano variety. Expanding on related work by W. Yang on the Beukers-Peters pencil of K3 surfaces associated with Apéry's proof for the irrationality of $\zeta(3)$, for such operators we define holomorphic prepotentials, virtual Yukawa couplings, and virtual instanton numbers, analogous to the usual ingredients of Calabi-Yau mirror symmetry. We prove that when the underlying Calabi-Yau operator is modular, the virtual Yukawa coupling is a modular form of weight-$(n+1)$, with the holomorphic prepotential as an Eichler integral. We then analyze the quantum differential operators for modular pencils of K3 surfaces arising as Dolgachev-Nikulin-Pinkham mirrors for the anticanonical linear systems for the 17 deformation classes of Fano threefolds of Picard rank-1 classified by Iskovskikh from the perspective of Golyshev & Zagier's proof of the Gamma conjecture for such Fanos, the natural setting of Yang's work. Here, the virtual instanton numbers are proven to be periodic integers with period equal to the level of the modular subgroup. Finally, we conjecture that the geometric nature of these virtual instanton numbers can be understood in terms of relative genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants of the associated log Calabi-Yau pair from the Fano threefold and anticanonical K3.

Enumerative mirror symmetry for moduli spaces of Higgs bundles and S-duality

Abstract:We derive conjectures, called genus 1 Enumerative mirror symmetry for moduli spaces of Higgs bundles, which relate curve-counting invariants of moduli spaces of Higgs $\mathrm{SL}_r$-bundles to curve-counting invariants of moduli spaces of Higgs $\mathrm{PGL}_r$-bundles. This contrasts with Enumerative mirror symmetry for Calabi-Yau 3-folds which relates curve-counting invariants to periods. We also provide extensive mathematical evidence for these conjectures. The conjectures are obtained with the help of the theory of quasimaps to moduli spaces of sheaves, Tanaka-Thomas's construction of Vafa-Witten theory, Jiang-Kool's enumerative S-duality of Vafa-Witten invariants and Manschot-Moore's calculations. We use the latter together with some basic computations to give a complete list of conjectural expressions for genus 1 quasimap invariants for all prime ranks. They have many interesting properties, among which is quantum $\chi$-independence. The wall-crossing to Gromov-Witten theory is also thoroughly discussed.

Quantum Sheaf Cohomology and Duality of Flag Manifolds

Abstract:We study the quantum sheaf cohomology of flag manifolds with deformations of the tangent bundle and use the ring structure to derive how the deformation transforms under the biholomorphic duality of flag manifolds. Realized as the OPE ring of A/2-twisted two-dimensional theories with (0,2) supersymmetry, quantum sheaf cohomology generalizes the notion of quantum cohomology. Complete descriptions of quantum sheaf cohomology have been obtained for abelian gauged linear sigma models (GLSMs) and for nonabelian GLSMs describing Grassmannians. In this paper we continue to explore the quantum sheaf cohomology of nonabelian theories. We first propose a method to compute the generating relations for (0,2) GLSMs with (2,2) locus. We apply this method to derive the quantum sheaf cohomology of products of Grassmannians and flag manifolds. The dual deformation associated with the biholomorphic duality gives rise to an explicit IR duality of two A/2-twisted (0,2) gauge theories.

Abstract:We propose a new point of view on quantum cohomology, strongly motivated by the work of Givental and Dubrovin, but closer to differential geometry than the existing approaches. The central object is the D-module which "quantizes" a commutative algebra associated to the (uncompactified) space of rational curves. A standard loop group factorization procedure converts the D-module to Givental's D-module and the commutative algebra to the quantum cohomology algebra. We apply this only to the small quantum cohomology of full flag manifolds and semi-positive toric manifolds, but even in these cases the method is effective. In particular it gives an algorithm (requiring construction of a Groebner basis and solution of a system of o.d.e.) for the quantum product.

Abstract:Mirror Symmetry, Picard-Fuchs equations and instanton corrected Yukawa couplings are discussed within the framework of toric geometry. It allows to establish mirror symmetry of Calabi-Yau spaces for which the mirror manifold had been unavailable in previous constructions. Mirror maps and Yukawa couplings are explicitly given for several examples with two and three moduli.
