Abstract:In this paper we show that under certain condition the Fontaine--Mazur $L$-invariant for a Hilbert eigenform coincides with its Teitelbaum type $L$-invariant, and thus prove a conjecture of Chida, Mok and Park.

Abstract:We prove that a general miraculous cancellation formula, the divisibility of certain characteristic numbers, and some other topological results related to the generalized Rochlin invariant, the η-invariant and the holonomies of certain determinant line bundles, are consequences of the modular invariance of elliptic operators on loop space.

New phenomena arising from L-invariants of modular forms

Abstract:This article explains how to practically compute L-invariants of p-new eigenforms using p-adic L-series and exceptional zero phenomena. As proof of the utility, we compiled a data set consisting of over 150,000 L-invariants. We analyze qualitative and quantitative features found in the data. This includes conjecturing a statistical law for the distribution of the valuations of L-invariants in a fixed level as the weights of eigenforms approach infinity. One novel point of our investigation is that the algorithm is sensitive to compiling data for fixed Galois representations modulo p. Therefore, we explain new perspectives on L-invariants that are related to Galois representations. We propose understanding the structures in our data through the lens of deformation rings and moduli stacks of Galois representations.

Abstract:We generalize the "miraculous cancellation" formulas of Alvarez-Gaumé, Witten and Kefeng Liu to a twisted version where an extra complex line bundle is involved. We also apply our result to discuss intrinsic relations between the higher dimensional Rokhlin type congruence formulas of Ochanine [O1], Finashin [F] and Zhang [Z1, 2]. In particular, an analytic proof of the Finashin congruence formula is given.

Abstract:Let be a cuspidal, cohomological automorphic representation of an inner form G of over a number field F of arbitrary signature. Further, let be a prime of F such that G is split at and the local component of at is the Steinberg representation. Assuming that the representation is noncritical at , we construct automorphic -invariants for the representation . If the number field F is totally real, we show that these automorphic -invariants agree with the Fontaine–Mazur -invariant of the associated p-adic Galois representation. This generalizes a recent result of Spieß respectively Rosso and the first named author from the case of parallel weight to arbitrary cohomological weights.

Abstract:We describe the -invariant of a semisimple algebraic group over a generic splitting field of a Tits algebra of in terms of the -invariant over the base field. As a consequence we prove a 10-year-old conjecture of Quéguiner-Mathieu, Semenov, and Zainoulline on the -invariant of groups of type . In the case of type we also provide explicit formulas for the first component and in some cases for the second component of the -invariant.

Abstract:The purpose of this article is proving the equality of two natural $\mathcal L$-invariants attached to the adjoint representation of a weigth one cusp form, each defined by purely analytic, respectively algebraic means. The proof departs from Greenberg's definition of the algebraic $\mathcal L$-invariant as a universal norm of a canonical $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ associated to the representation. We relate it to a certain $2\times 2$ regulator of $p$-adic logarithms of global units by means of class field theory, which we then show to be equal to the analytic $\mathcal L$-invariant computed by Rivero and the second author.

Hilbert modular Eisenstein congruences of local origin

Abstract:Let $F$ be an arbitrary totally real field. Under weak conditions we prove the existence of certain Eisenstein congruences between parallel weight $k \geq 3$ Hilbert eigenforms of level $\mathfrak{mp}$ and Hilbert Eisenstein series of level $\mathfrak{m}$, for arbitrary ideal $\mathfrak{m}$ and prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}\nmid \mathfrak{m}$ of $\mathcal{O}_F$. Such congruences have their moduli coming from special values of Hecke $L$-functions and their Euler factors, and our results allow for the eigenforms to have non-trivial Hecke character. After this, we consider the question of when such congruences can be satisfied by newforms, proving a general result about this.

Abstract:Let k be an odd positive integer, L a lattice on a regular positive definite k -dimensional quadratic space over ℚ , N_L the level of L , and ℳ(L) be the linear space of θ -series attached to the distinct classes in the genus of L . We prove that, for an odd prime p|N_L , if L_p=L_p,1 L_p,2 , where L_p,1 is unimodular, L_p,2 is ( p )-modular, and ℚ_pL_p,2 is anisotropic, then ℳ(L;p):= ℳ(L) +T_p^2. ℳ(L) is stable under the Hecke operator T_p^2 . If L_2 is isometric to ( [ 0 1/2; 1/2 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ε⟩ or ( [ 0 1/2; 1/2 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ 2ε⟩ or ( [ 0 1; 1 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ε⟩ with ε∈ℤ_2^× and κ :=k-1/2 , then ℳ(L;2):=T_2^2.ℳ(L)+T_2^2^2. ℳ(L) is stable under the Hecke operator T_2^2 . Furthermore, we determine some invariant subspaces of the cusp forms for the Hecke operators.

Abstract:Over any fixed totally real number field with narrow class number one, we prove that the Rankin-Cohen bracket of two Hecke eigenforms for the Hilbert modular group can only be a Hecke eigenform for dimension reasons, except for a couple of cases where the Rankin-Selberg method does not apply. We shall also prove a conjecture of Freitag on the volume of Hilbert modular groups, and assuming a conjecture of Freitag on the dimension of the cuspform space, we obtain a finiteness result on eigenform product identities.

Iwasawa invariants of modular forms with $a_p=0$

Abstract:Fix a prime $p$ and a cuspidal newform $f$ of level coprime to $p$ with $a_p=0$. Attached to $f$ are signed $p$-adic $L$-functions $L_p^\pm(f)$ and Mazur-Tate elements $\theta_n(f)$, both of which encode arithmetic data about $f$ along the cyclotomic $\mathbf{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbf{Q}$. We compute the Iwasawa invariants of Mazur-Tate elements in terms of the corresponding invariants of the signed $p$-adic $L$-functions. As corollaries, we determine the $p$-adic valuation of critical values of the $L$-function of $f$, and describe a relation between the Iwasawa invariants of congruent modular forms of weights 2 and $p+1$. Our results provide an asymptotic method for computing the signed Iwasawa invariants attached to newforms of any weight $k\geq 2$ with $a_p=0$.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{F}(\mathbf{k},\mathfrak{q})$ be the set of normalized Hilbert newforms of weight $\mathbf{k}$ and prime level $\mathfrak{q}$. In this paper, utilizing regularized relative trace formulas, we establish a positive proportion of $\#\{\pi\in\mathcal{F}(\mathbf{k},\mathfrak{q}):L(1/2,\pi)\neq 0\}$ as $\#\mathcal{F}(\mathbf{k},\mathfrak{q})\to+\infty$. Moreover, our result matches the strength of the best known results in both the level and weight aspects.

Abstract:We prove a closed formula for leading Gopakumar–Vafa BPS invariants of local Calabi–Yau geometries given by the canonical line bundles of toric Fano surfaces. It shares some similar features with Göttsche–Yau–Zaslow formula: Connection with Hilbert schemes, connection with quasimodular forms, and quadratic property after suitable transformation. In Part I of this paper we will present the case of projective plane, more general cases will be presented in Part II.

Abstract:We prove that the Mazur-Tate elements of an eigenform $f$ sit inside the Fitting ideals of the corresponding dual Selmer groups along the cyclotomic $\mathbb Z_p$-extension (up to scaling by a single constant). Our method begins with the construction of local cohomology classes built via the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence. From these classes, we build algebraic analogues of the Mazur-Tate elements which we directly verify sit in the appropriate Fitting ideals. Using Kato's Euler system and explicit reciprocity laws, we prove that these algebraic elements divide the corresponding Mazur-Tate elements, implying our theorem.

On Converse Theorems for Hilbert Modular Forms Assuming Unramified Twists

Abstract:We prove two results on converse theorems for Hilbert modular forms over totally real fields of degree $r>1$. The first result recovers a Hilbert modular form (of some level) from an $L$-series satisfying functional equations twisted by all the unramified Hecke characters. The second result assumes both the 'unramified' functional equations and an Euler product, and recovers a Hilbert modular form of the expected level predicted by the shape of the functional equations. Our result generalizes the current converse theorems for $\mathrm{GL}_2$ in the case of Hilbert modular forms in that we completely remove the assumptions on ramified twists.
