Abstract:We prove a variant of the Davies-Gaffney-Grigor'yan Lemma for the continuous time heat kernel on graphs. We use it together with the Li-Yau inequality to obtain strong heat kernel estimates for graphs satisfying the exponential curvature dimension inequality.

Abstract:In this paper we describe a proof of the formulas of Witten [W1], [W2] about the symplectic volumes and the intersection numbers of the moduli spaces of principal bundles on a compact Riemann surface. It is known that these formulas give all the information needed for the Verlinde formula. The main idea of the proof is to use the heat kernel on compact Lie groups, in a way very similar to the heat kernel proof of the Atiyah-Singer index formula and the Atiyah-Bott fixed point formula. The Reidemeister torsion comes into the picture, through a beautiful observation of Witten, as the symplectic volume of the moduli space. It plays the role similar to that played by the Ray-Singer torsion in the path-integral computations on the space of connections. The basic idea is as follows. Consider a smooth map between two compact smooth manifolds f : M → N . Let H(t, x, x0) be the heat kernel of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on N with x0 a fixed regular value of f . Abstract:In this paper, we prove Schwartz estimates for Hodge Laplacian and Dirac operators on semisimple Lie groups. Alongside, we gives a version of Kuga lemma for its Lie algebra cohomology. This is a generalization of similar results on symmetric spaces. The main purpose of such estimates is to study the heat problem not only in the scalar case, but also for sections of vector bundles on homogeneous spaces using Fourier analysis.

Abstract:As a generalization of graph Laplacians to higher dimensions, the combinatorial Laplacians of simplicial complexes have garnered increasing attention. Let $X$ be a simplicial complex on vertex set $V$ of size $n$, and let $X(k)$ denote the set of all $k$-dimensional simplices of $X$. The $k$-th spectral gap $\mu_k(X)$ is the smallest eigenvalue of the reduced $k$-dimensional Laplacian of $X$. For any $k\geq -1$, Lew [J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 169 (2020) 105127] established a lower bound for $\mu_k(X)$: $$\mu_k(X)\geq (d+1)\left(\min_{\sigma\in X(k)}°_X(\sigma)+k+1\right)-dn\geq (d+1)(k+1)-dn,$$ where $°_X(\sigma)$ and $d$ denote the degree of $\sigma$ in $X$ and the maximal dimension of a missing face of $X$, respectively. In this paper, we identify the unique simplicial complex that achieves the lower bound of the $k$-th spectral gap, $(d+1)(k+1)-dn$, for some $k$, thereby confirming a conjecture proposed by Lew.

Abstract:Let G be an almost linear Nash group, namely, a Nash group that admits a Nash homomorphism with finite kernel to some GLk(R). A homology theory (the Schwartz homology) is established for the category of smooth Fréchet representations of G of moderate growth. Frobenius reciprocity and Shapiro's lemma are proved in this category. As an application, we give a criterion for automatic extensions of Schwartz homologies of Schwartz sections of a tempered G-vector bundle.

Abstract:The cohomology of digraphs was introduced for the first time by Dimakis and Muller-Hoissen. Their algebraic definition is based on a differential calculus on an algebra of functions on the set of vertices with relations that follow naturally from the structure of the set of edges. A dual notion of homology of digraphs, based on the notion of path complex, was introduced by the authors, and the first methods for computing the (co) homology groups were developed. The interest in homology on digraphs is motivated by physical applications and relations between algebraic and geometrical properties of quivers. The digraph G(B) of the partially ordered set B-S of simplexes of a simplicial complex S has graph homology that is isomorphic to the simplicial homology of S. In this paper, we introduce the concept of cubical digraphs and describe their homology properties. In particular, we define a cubical subgraph G(S) of G(B), whose homologies are isomorphic to the simplicial homologies of S.
From Grassmannian to Simplicial High-Dimensional Expanders

Abstract:In this paper, we present a new construction of simplicial complexes of subpolynomial degree with arbitrarily good local spectral expansion. Previously, the only known high-dimensional expanders (HDXs) with arbitrarily good expansion and less than polynomial degree were based on one of two constructions, namely Ramanujan complexes and coset complexes. In contrast, our construction is a Cayley complex over the group $\mathbb{F}_2^k$, with Cayley generating set given by a Grassmannian HDX. Our construction is in part motivated by a coding-theoretic interpretation of Grassmannian HDXs that we present, which provides a formal connection between Grassmannian HDXs, simplicial HDXs, and LDPC codes. We apply this interpretation to prove a general characterization of the 1-homology groups over $\mathbb{F}_2$ of Cayley simplicial complexes over $\mathbb{F}_2^k$. Using this result, we construct simplicial complexes on $N$ vertices with arbitrarily good local expansion for which the dimension of the 1-homology group grows as $\Omega(\log^2N)$. No prior constructions in the literature have been shown to achieve as large a 1-homology group.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider transversally harmonic maps between Riemannian manifolds with Riemannian foliations. In terms of the Bochner techniques and sub-Laplacian comparison theorem, we are able to establish a generalization of the Schwarz lemma for transversally harmonic maps of bounded generalized transversal dilatation. In addition, we also obtain a Schwarz type lemma for transversally holomorphic maps between Kähler foliations.

Abstract:The notion of Laplacian of a graph can be generalized to simplicial complexes and hypergraphs, and contains information on the topology of these structures. Even for a graph, the consideration of associated simplicial complexes is interesting to understand its shape. Whereas the Laplacian of a graph has a simple probabilistic interpretation as the generator of a continuous time Markov chain on the graph, things are not so direct when considering simplicial complexes. We define here new Markov chains on simplicial complexes. For a given order~$k$, the state space is the set of $k$-cycles that are chains of $k$-simplexes with null boundary. This new framework is a natural generalization of the canonical Markov chains on graphs. We show that the generator of our Markov chain is the upper Laplacian defined in the context of algebraic topology for discrete structure. We establish several key properties of this new process: in particular, when the number of vertices is finite, the Markov chain is positive recurrent. This result is not trivial, since the cycles can loop over themselves an unbounded number of times. We study the diffusive limits when the simplicial complexes under scrutiny are a sequence of ever refining triangulations of the flat torus. Using the analogy between singular and Hodge homologies, we express this limit as valued in the set of currents. The proof of tightness and the identification of the limiting martingale problem make use of the flat norm and carefully controls of the error terms in the convergence of the generator. Uniqueness of the solution to the martingale problem is left open. An application to hole detection is carried.

Cheeger inequalities on simplicial complexes

Abstract:Cheeger-type inequalities in which the decomposability of a graph and the spectral gap of its Laplacian mutually control each other play an important role in graph theory and network analysis, in particular in the context of expander theory. The natural problem to extend such inequalities to simplicial complexes and their higher order Eckmann Laplacians has been open for a long time. Before proving any inequality, however, one needs to identify the right Cheeger-type constant for which such an inequality can hold. Here, we solve this problem. Our solution involves and combines constructions from simplicial topology, signed graphs, Gromov filling radii and an interpolation between the standard 2-Laplacians and the analytically more difficult 1-Laplacians, for which, however, the inequalities become equalities. It is then natural to develop a general theory for $p$-Laplacians on simplicial complexes and investigate the related Cheeger-type inequalities.

Abstract:We study linear filters for processing signals supported on abstract topological spaces modeled as simplicial complexes, which may be interpreted as generalizations of graphs that account for nodes, edges, triangular faces etc. To process such signals, we develop simplicial convolutional filters defined as matrix polynomials of the lower and upper Hodge Laplacians. First, we study the properties of these filters and show that they are linear and shift-invariant, as well as permutation and orientation equivariant. These filters can also be implemented in a distributed fashion with a low computational complexity, as they involve only (multiple rounds of) simplicial shifting between upper and lower adjacent simplices. Second, focusing on edge-flows, we study the frequency responses of these filters and examine how we can use the Hodge-decomposition to delineate gradient, curl and harmonic frequencies. We discuss how these frequencies correspond to the lower- and the upper-adjacent couplings and the kernel of the Hodge Laplacian, respectively, and can be tuned independently by our filter designs. Third, we study different procedures for designing simplicial convolutional filters and discuss their relative advantages. Finally, we corroborate our simplicial filters in several applications: to extract different frequency components of a simplicial signal, to denoise edge flows, and to analyze financial markets and traffic networks.

Abstract:Weighted hypergraphs are generalizations of weighted simplicial complexes. In recent years, weighted Laplacians of weighted simplicial complexes have been studied. In 2016, as a generalization of the homology of simplicial complexes, the embedded homology of hypergraphs was constructed. In this paper, we generalize the weighted Laplacians of weighted simplicial complexes to weighted hypergraphs. We study the relations between the weighted Laplacians and the weighted embedded homology of weighted hypergraphs. We generalize the Hodge decompositions of weighted simplicial complexes to weighted hypergraphs. Moreover, as a complement for the Hodge decompositions, we give some results for the nonzero eigenvalues of the weighted Laplacians of weighted hypergraphs.

Filtration of cohomology via symmetric semisimplicial spaces

Abstract:In the simplicial theory of hypercoverings, we replace the indexing category $\Delta$ by the \emph{symmetric simplicial category} $\Delta S$ and study (a class of) $\Delta S$-hypercoverings, which we call \emph{spaces admitting symmetric (semi)simplicial filtration}. For $\Delta S$-hypercoverings we construct a spectral sequence, somewhat like the Čech-to-derived category spectral sequence. The advantage of working on $\Delta S$ is that all of the combinatorial complexities that come with working on $\Delta$ are bypassed, giving simpler, unified proof of known results like the computation of (in some cases, stable) singular cohomology (with $\mathbb{Q}$ coefficients) and et al e cohomology (with $\mathbb{Q}_{\ell}$ coefficients) of the moduli space of degree $n$ maps $C\to \mathbb{P}^r$, $C$ a smooth projective curve of genus $g$, of unordered configuration spaces etc. as well as new: that of the moduli space of smooth sections of a fixed $\mathfrak{g}^r_d$ that is $m$-very ample for some $m$.

Abstract:We show that the $\partial\bar{\partial}$-lemma holds for the non-K\"ahler compact complex manifolds of dimension three with trivial canonical bundle constructed by Clemens as deformations of Calabi-Yau threefolds contracted along smooth rational curves with normal bundle of type $(-1, -1)$, at least on an open dense set in moduli. The proof uses the mixed Hodge structure on the singular fibers and an analysis of the variation of the Hodge filtration for the smooth fibers.
