Abstract:We construct a cohomology theory on a category of finite digraphs (directed graphs), which is based on the universal calculus on the algebra of functions on the vertices of the digraph. We develop necessary algebraic technique and apply it for investigation of functorial properties of this theory. We introduce categories of digraphs and (undirected) graphs, and using natural isomorphism between the introduced category of graphs and the full subcategory of symmetric digraphs we transfer our cohomology theory to the category of graphs. Then we prove homotopy invariance of the introduced cohomology theory for undirected graphs. Thus we answer the question of Babson, Barcelo, Longueville, and Laubenbacher about existence of homotopy invariant homology theory for graphs. We establish connections with cohomology of simplicial complexes that arise naturally for some special classes of digraphs. For example, the cohomologies of posets coincide with the cohomologies of a simplicial complex associated with the poset. However, in general the digraph cohomology theory can not be reduced to simplicial cohomology. We describe the behavior of digraph cohomology groups for several topological constructions on the digraph level and prove that any given finite sequence of non-negative integers can be realized as the sequence of ranks of digraph cohomology groups. We present also sufficiently many examples that illustrate the theory.

Abstract:To a digraph with a choice of certain integral basis, we construct a CW complex, whose integral singular cohomology is canonically isomorphic to the path cohomology of the digraph as introduced in \cite{GLMY}. The homotopy type of the CW complex turns out to be independent of the choice of basis. After a very brief discussion of functoriality, this construction immediately implies some of the expected but perhaps combinatorially subtle properties of the digraph cohomology and homotopy proved very recently \cite{GLMY2}. Furthermore, one gets a very simple expected formula for the cup product of forms on the digraph. On the other hand, we present an approach of using sheaf theory to reformulate (di)graph cohomologies. The investigation of the path cohomology from this framework, leads to a subtle version of Poincare lemma for digraphs, which follows from the construction of the CW complex.

Abstract:We introduce a homotopy theory of digraphs (directed graphs) and prove its basic properties, including the relations to the homology theory of digraphs constructed by the authors in previous papers. In particular, we prove the homotopy invariance of homologies of digraphs and the relation between the fundamental group of the digraph and its first homology group. The category of (undirected) graphs can be identified by a natural way with a full subcategory of digraphs. Thus we obtain also consistent homology and homotopy theories for graphs. Note that the homotopy theory for graphs coincides with the one constructed in [1] and [2].

Abstract:In the paper we continue the investigation of the path homology theory of digraphs that was constructed in our previous papers. We prove basic theorems that are similar to the theorems of classical algebraic topology and introduce several natural constructions of digraphs which are very helpful to investigate the path homology theory. We describe relation of our results to the Eilenberg-Steenrod axiomatic of homology theory.

Abstract:The cohomology of digraphs was introduced for the first time by Dimakis and Muller-Hoissen. Their algebraic definition is based on a differential calculus on an algebra of functions on the set of vertices with relations that follow naturally from the structure of the set of edges. A dual notion of homology of digraphs, based on the notion of path complex, was introduced by the authors, and the first methods for computing the (co) homology groups were developed. The interest in homology on digraphs is motivated by physical applications and relations between algebraic and geometrical properties of quivers. The digraph G(B) of the partially ordered set B-S of simplexes of a simplicial complex S has graph homology that is isomorphic to the simplicial homology of S. In this paper, we introduce the concept of cubical digraphs and describe their homology properties. In particular, we define a cubical subgraph G(S) of G(B), whose homologies are isomorphic to the simplicial homologies of S.

Abstract:We prove that for transitive digraphs path homology, and therefore also Alexandroff homology, coincides with singular cubic homology. Also, discrete topological spaces are defined that are natural analogues of standard topological cubes. Using them, the singular cubic homology of discrete topological spaces is defined, and it is proved that these homology groups coincide with the Alexandroff homology groups. Bibliography: 24 titles.

Abstract:We prove that, as Gerstenhaber algebras, the Hochschild cohomology ring of the tensor product of two algebras is isomorphic to the tensor product of the respective Hochschild cohomology rings of these two algebras, when at least one of them is finite dimensional. In case of finite dimensional symmetric algebras, this isomorphism is an isomorphism of Batalin–Vilkovisky algebras. As an application, we explain by examples how to compute the Batalin–Vilkovisky structure, in particular, the Gerstenhaber Lie bracket, over the Hochschild cohomology ring of the group algebra of a finite abelian group.

Abstract:We study Maxim Kontsevich's graph complex $GC_d$ for any integer $d$ as well as its oriented and targeted versions, and show new short proofs of the theorems due to Thomas Willwacher and Marko Zivkovic which establish isomorphisms of their cohomology groups. A new result relating the cohomology of the sourced-targeted graph complex in dimension $d+1$ with the direct sum of two copies of the cohomology group of Maxim Kontsevich's graph complex $GC_d$ in dimension $d$ is obtained. We introduce a new graph complex spanned by purely trivalent graphs and show that its cohomology is isomorphic to $H(GC_d)$.

On diagonal digraphs, Koszul algebras and triangulations of homology spheres

Abstract:The article is devoted to the study of diagonal digraphs, i.e. digraphs whose magnitude homology is concentrated on the diagonal. For a digraph $G$ and $\ell\geq 2,$ we describe a condition, denoted by $(\mathcal{V}_\ell)$, equivalent to vanishing of the second magnitude homology group ${\rm MH}_{2,k}(G,\mathbb{Z})$ for all $k>\ell.$ In particular, diagonal digraphs satisfy $(\mathcal{V}_2).$ As a corollary we obtain that the 2-dimensional CW-complex obtained from a diagonal undirected graph by attaching 2-cells to all squares and triangles of the graph is simply connected. We also give an interpretation of diagonality in terms of Koszul algebras: a digraph $G$ is diagonal if and only if the distance algebra $\sigma G$ is Koszul for any ground field; and if and only if $G$ satisfies $(\mathcal{V}_2)$ and the path cochain algebra $\Omega^\bullet(G)$ is Koszul for any ground field. To obtain a source of examples of digraphs, we study the extended Hasse diagram $\hat G_K$ of a pure simplicial complex $K$. For a triangulation $K$ of a topological manifold $M,$ we express the non-diagonal part of the magnitude homology of $\hat G_K$ via the homology of $M$. As a corollary we obtain that, if $K$ is a triangulation of a closed manifold $M$, then $\hat G_K$ is diagonal if and only if $M$ is a homology sphere.

Trace methods for coHochschild homology

Abstract:Hochschild homology is a classical invariant of rings that plays an important role because of its connection to algebraic $K$-theory via the Dennis trace. At level zero, the Dennis trace is induced by the Hattori-Stallings trace. In this paper, we introduce new algebraic $K$-theories of coalgebras and obtain coalgebraic refinements of the Hattori-Stallings trace that connect these algebraic $K$-theories to coHochschild homology (the invariant analogous to Hochschild homology but for coalgebras). We employ bicategorical methods of Ponto to show that coHochschild homology is a shadow. Consequently, we obtain that coHochschild homology is Morita-Takeuchi invariant.

Abstract:We develop new methods for computing the Hochschild (co)homology of monoids which can be presented as the structure monoids of idempotent set-theoretic solutions to the Yang--Baxter equation. These include free and symmetric monoids; factorizable monoids, for which we find a generalization of the K{ü}nneth formula for direct products; and plactic monoids. Our key result is an identification of the (co)homologies in question with those of the underlying YBE solutions, via the explicit quantum symmetrizer map. This partially answers questions of Farinati--Garc{í}a-Galofre and Dilian Yang. We also obtain new structural results on the (co)homology of general YBE solutions.

Abstract:We give an explicit description of a diagonal map on the Bardzell resolution for any monomial algebra, and we use this diagonal map to describe the cup product on Hochschild cohomology. Then, we prove that the cup product is zero in positive degrees for triangular monomial algebras. Our proof uses the graded-commutativity of the cup product on Hochschild cohomology and does not rely on explicit computation of the Hochschild cohomology modules.

Abstract:In this paper one considers three homotopy functors on the category of manifolds, $hH^\ast, cH^\ast, sH^\ast,$ and parallel them with other three homotopy functors on the category of connected commutative differential graded algebras, $HH^\ast, CH^\ast, SH^\ast.$ If $P$ is a smooth 1-connected manifold and the algebra is the de-Rham algebra of $P$ the two pairs of functors agree but in general do not. The functors $ HH^\ast $ and $CH^\ast$ can be also derived as Hochschild resp. cyclic homology of commutative differential graded algebra, but this is not the way they are introduced here. The third $SH^\ast ,$ although inspired from negative cyclic homology, can not be identified with any sort of cyclic homology of any algebra. The functor $sH^\ast$ might play some role in topology. Important tools in the construction of the functors $HH^\ast, CH^\ast $and $SH^\ast ,$ in addition to the linear algebra suggested by cyclic theory, are Sullivan minimal model theorem and the "free loop" construction described in this paper.

Abstract:For commutative algebras there are three important homology theories, Harrison homology, Andre-Quillen homology and Gamma-homology. In general these differ, unless one works with respect to a ground field of characteristic zero. We show that the analogues of these homology theories agree in the category of pointed commutative monoids in symmetric sequences and that Hochschild homology always possesses a Hodge decomposition in this setting. In addition we prove that the category of pointed differential graded commutative monoids in symmetric sequences has a model structure and that it is Quillen equivalent to the model category of pointed simplicial commutative monoids in symmetric sequences.

On the path homology of Cayley digraphs and covering digraphs

Abstract:We develop a theory of covering digraphs, similar to the theory of covering spaces. By applying this theory to Cayley digraphs, we build a "bridge" between GLMY-theory and group homology theory, which helps to reduce path homology calculations to group homology computations. We show some cases where this approach allows us to fully express path homology in terms of group homology. To illustrate this method, we provide a path homology computation for the Cayley digraph of the additive group of rational numbers with a generating set consisting of inverses to factorials. The main tool in our work is a filtered simplicial set associated with a digraph, which we call the filtered nerve of a digraph.

Abstract:We prove that every open-closed homotopy algebra, introduced by Kajiura and Stasheff (arXiv: archive/0410291), naturally gives rise to an open-closed version of Hochschild cochain complex whose cohomology admits a canonical Gerstenhaber algebra structure. We also develop the open-closed brace relations, provide a concise description of OCHAs, and establish an A-infinity structure that extends the open-closed Hochschild differential.

Abstract:We introduce new finite-dimensional cohomologies on symplectic manifolds. Each exhibits Lefschetz decomposition and contains a unique harmonic representative within each class. Associated with each cohomology is a primitive cohomology defined purely on the space of primitive forms. We identify the dual currents of lagrangians and more generally coisotropic submanifolds with elements of a primitive cohomology, which dualizes to a homology on coisotropic chains.
Homotopy cofinality for Non-Abelian homology of group diagrams

Abstract:We prove that a homotopy cofinal functor between small categories induces a weak equivalence between homotopy colimits of pointed simplicial sets. This is used to prove that the non-Abelian homology of a group diagram is isomorphic to the homology of its inverse image under a homotopy cofinal functor. This also made it possible to establish that the non-Abelian homology of group diagrams are invariant under the left Kan extension along virtual discrete cofibrations. With the help of these results, we have constructed a non-Abelian Gabriel-Zisman homology theory for simplicial sets with coefficients in group diagrams. Moreover, we have generalized this theory to presheaves over an arbitrary small category, which play the role of simplicial sets. Sufficient conditions are found for the isomorphism of non-Abelian homology of presheaves over a small category with coefficients in group diagrams. It is proved that the non-Abelian homology of the factorization category for the small category is isomorphic to the Baues-Wirsching homology. A condition is found under which a functor between small categories induces an isomorphism of non-Abelian Baues-Wirsching homology.
