Abstract:We prove that there are strong minimal pairs in the enumeration degrees and that the degrees of the left and right sides of strong minimal pairs include Σ20 degrees, although it is unknown if there is a strong minimal pair in the Σ20 enumeration degrees. We define a stronger type of minimal pair we call a strong super minimal pair, and show that there are none of these in the enumeration degrees, answering a question of Lempp, Slaman and Soskova [1] . We leave open the question of the existence of a super minimal pair in the enumeration degrees.

Abstract:Given an NQC log canonical generalized pair whose underlying variety X is not necessarily -factorial, we show that one may run a -MMP with scaling of an ample divisor which terminates, provided that has a minimal model in a weaker sense or that is not pseudo-effective. We also prove the existence of minimal models of pseudo-effective NQC log canonical generalized pairs under various additional assumptions, for instance when the boundary contains an ample divisor.

Abstract:Kadeishvili's minimal model theorem establishes the existence of an $A_\infty$-structure, unique up to isomorphism, on the cohomology of a dg associative algebra, which captures its homotopy type. In this note we prove the existence of minimal models that are unique up to isotopy, a stronger result obviously known to T. Kadeishvili and certainly to others, yet seemingly overlooked by mankind. We will explore how this stronger result can help in the study of Massey products. First, we show that the attempts to extract a local information from the ternary operation $\mu_3$ of our minimal model leads directly to the rediscovery of the triple Massey product. The motto is: "The triple Massey product is an invariant manifestation of $\mu_3$." We then prove that, under reasonable assumptions, the higher Massey product $\langle x_1,\ldots,x_n\rangle$ equals the set of all values $\mu_n(x_1,\ldots,x_n)$, where $\mu_n$ runs over the $n$-ary products of our minimal models. We believe that this note will help to elucidate the still somewhat enigmatic relationship between minimal models and Massey products.

Abstract:This paper studies logical aspects of the notion of better-quasi-order, which was introduced by C. Nash-Williams [Proc. Cambridge Philos. Soc. 61 (1965), pp. 697–720; Proc. Cambridge Philos. Soc. 64 (1968), pp. 273–290]. A central tool in the theory of better-quasi-orders is the minimal bad array lemma. We show that this lemma is exceptionally strong from the viewpoint of reverse mathematics, a framework from mathematical logic. Specifically, it is equivalent to the set existence principle of Π 2 1 \Pi ^1_2 -comprehension, over the base theory A T R 0 \mathsf {ATR_0} .

Abstract:We introduce and study weak o-minimality in the context of complete types in an arbitrary first-order theory. A type $p\in S(A)$ is weakly o-minimal if for some relatively $A$-definable linear order, $<$, on $p(\mathfrak{C})$ every relatively $L_{\mathfrak{C}}$-definable subset of $p(\mathfrak{C})$ has finitely many convex components in $(p(\mathfrak{C}),<)$. We establish many nice properties of weakly o-minimal types. For example, we prove that weakly o-minimal types are dp-minimal and share several properties of weight-one types in stable theories, and that a version of monotonicity theorem holds for relatively definable functions on the locus of a weakly o-minimal type.

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{K}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>5$. We show the existence of minimal models for pseudo-effective NQC klt generalized pairs in dimension three over $\mathbb{K}$. As a consequence, we prove the termination of flips for pseudo-effective threefold NQC klt generalized pairs over $\mathbb{K}$. This provides a new proof on the termination of flips for pseudo-effective pairs over $\mathbb{K}$ without using the non-vanishing theorems. A key ingredient of our proof is the ACC for lc thresholds in dimension $\leq 3$ and the global ACC in dimension $\leq 2$ for generalized pairs over $\mathbb{K}$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of minimal covers and strong minimal covers in the Weihrauch degrees. We characterize when a problem $f$ is a minimal cover or strong minimal cover of a problem $h$. We show that strong minimal covers only exist in the cone below $\mathsf{id}$ and that the Weihrauch lattice above $\mathsf{id}$ is dense. From this, we conclude that the degree of $\mathsf{id}$ is first-order definable in the Weihrauch degrees and that the first-order theory of the Weihrauch degrees is computably isomorphic to third-order arithmetic.

Abstract:Outside of the framework of geometric theories, we exhibit complete, respectively model-complete theories of rings whose corresponding theory of pairs is complete, respectively model-complete, using transfer results proven in the seventies for boolean products of structures. It includes certain boolean products of pairs of dp-minimal fields of characteristic $0$. We also show, as in the case of pairs of fields, how it fits in the framework of differential rings.

Abstract:We introduce an abstract framework to study certain classes of stably embedded pairs of models of a complete $\mathcal{L}$-theory $T$, called \textit{beautiful pairs}, which comprises Poizat's belles paires of stable structures and van den Dries-Lewenberg's tame pairs of o-minimal structures. Using an amalgamation construction, we relate several properties of beautiful pairs with classical Fraïssé properties. After characterizing beautiful pairs of various theories of ordered abelian groups and valued fields, including the theories of algebraically, $p$-adically and real closed valued fields, we show an Ax-Kochen-Ershov type result for beautiful pairs of henselian valued fields. As an application, we derive strict pro-definability of particular classes of definable types. When $T$ is one of the theories of valued fields mentioned above, the corresponding classes of types are related to classical geometric spaces and our main result specializes to their strict pro-definability. Most notably, we exhibit the strict pro-definability of a natural space of types associated to Huber's analytifications. In this way, we also recover a result of Hrushovski-Loeser on the strict pro-definability of stably dominated types in algebraically closed valued fields, which corresponds to Berkovich's analytifications.

Non-perfect pairings between Hecke algebra and modular forms over function fields

Abstract:We study two analogs, for modular forms over $\mathbb{F}_{q}(T)$, of the pairing between Hecke algebra and cusp forms given by the first coefficient in the expansion. For Drinfeld modular forms, the $\mathbb{C}_{\infty}$-pairing is provided by the first coefficient of their $t$-expansion at infinity. For $\mathbb{Z}$-valued harmonic cochains, the $\mathbb{Z}$-pairing is given by their Fourier coefficient with respect to the trivial ideal. We prove that, contrarily to classical cusp forms, both pairings in weight $2$ are not perfect in a quite general setting, namely for the congruence subgroup $\Gamma_0(\mathfrak{n})$ with any prime ideal $\mathfrak{n}$ in $\mathbb{F}_{q}[T]$ of degree $\geq 5$. We show it by exhibiting a common element of the Hecke algebra in the kernels of both pairings and proving that it is non-zero using computations with modular symbols over $\mathbb{F}_{q}(T)$. Finally we present computational data on other kernel elements of these pairings.

Abstract:We show that separability and second-countability are first-order properties among topological spaces definable in o-minimal expansions of $(\mathbb{R},<)$. We do so by introducing first-order characterizations -- definable separability and definable second-countability -- which make sense in a wider model-theoretic context. We prove that within o-minimality these notions have the desired properties, including their equivalence among definable metric spaces, and conjecture a definable version of Urysohn's Metrization Theorem.

Abstract:Strong blocking sets, introduced first in 2011 in connection with saturating sets, have recently gained a lot of attention due to their correspondence with minimal codes. In this paper, we dig into the geometry of the concatenation method, introducing the concept of outer strong blocking sets and their coding theoretical counterpart. We investigate their structure and provide bounds on their size. As a byproduct, we improve the best-known upper bound on the minimum size of a strong blocking set. Finally, we present a geometric construction of small strong blocking sets, whose computational cost is significantly smaller than the previously known ones.

Abstract:We study the problem of existence of maximal chains in the Turing degrees. We show that:1. ZF + DC + "There exists no maximal chain in the Turing degrees" is equiconsistent with ZFC + "There exists an inaccessible cardinal";2. For all a is an element of 2(omega), (omega(1))(L[u]) = omega(1) if and only if there exists a Pi(1)(1)[a] maximal chain in the Turing degrees.As a corollary, ZFC + "There exists an inaccessible cardinal" is equiconsistent with ZFC + "There is no (boldface) Pi(1)(1) maximal chain of Turing degrees".
