Abstract:The paper studies -computable families ( ) and their numberings. It is proved that any non-trivial -computable family has a complete with respect to any of its elements -computable non-principal numbering. It is established that if a -computable family is not principal, then any of its -computable numberings has a minimal cover and, if the family is infinite, is incomparable with one of its minimal -computable numberings. It is also shown that for any -computable numbering of a -computable non-principal family there exists its -computable numbering that is incomparable with . If a non-trivial -computable family contains the least and greatest elements under inclusion, then for any of its -computable non-principal non-least numberings there exists a -computable numbering of the family incomparable with . In particular, this is true for the family of all -sets and for the families consisting of two inclusion-comparable -sets (semilattices of the -computable numberings of such families are isomorphic to the semilattice of -degrees of -sets).

Abstract:In this work, we study computable families of Turing degrees introduced and first studied by Arslanov and their numberings. We show that there exist finite families of Turing c.e. degrees both those with and without computable principal numberings and that every computable principal numbering of a family of Turing degrees is complete with respect to any element of the family. We also show that every computable family of Turing degrees has a complete with respect to each of its elements computable numbering even if it has no principal numberings. It follows from results by Mal'tsev and Ershov that complete numberings have nice programming tools and computational properties such as Kleene's recursion theorems, Rice's theorem, Visser's ADN theorem, etc. Thus, every computable family of Turing degrees has a computable numbering with these properties. Finally, we prove that the Rogers semilattice of each such non-empty non-singleton family is infinite and is not a lattice.

Abstract:Given an initial family of sets, we may take unions, intersections and complements of the sets contained in this family in order to form a new collection of sets; our construction process is done recursively until we obtain the last family. Problems encountered in this research include the minimum number of steps required to arrive to the last family as well as a characterization of that last family; we solve all those problems. We also define a class of simple families ($n$-minimal constructible) and we analyze the relationships between partitions and separability (our new concept) that lead to interesting results such as finding families based on partitions that generate finite algebras. We prove a number of new results about $n$-minimal constructible families; one major result is that every finite algebra of sets has a generating family which is $n$-minimal constructible for all natural $n$ and we compute the minimum number of steps required to generate an algebra. Another interesting result is a connection between this construction process and Baire's Theorem. This work has a number of possible applications, particularly in the fields of economics and computer science.

Abstract:For a given number of $k$-sets, how should we choose them so as to minimize the union-closed family that they generate? Our main aim in this paper is to show that, if $\mathcal{A}$ is a family of $k$-sets of size $\binom{t}{k}$, and $t$ is sufficiently large, then the union-closed family generated by $\mathcal{A}$ has size at least that generated by the family of all $k$-sets from a $t$-set. This proves (for this size of family) a conjecture of Roberts. We also make some related conjectures, and give some other results, including a new proof of the result of Leck, Roberts and Simpson that exactly determines this minimum (for all sizes of the family) when $k=2$.

Abstract:The theory of numberings studies uniform computations for families of mathematical objects. In this area, computability-theoretic properties of at most countable families of sets are typically classified via the corresponding Rogers upper semilattices. In most cases, a Rogers semilattice cannot be a lattice. Working within the framework of Formal Concept Analysis, we develop two new approaches to the classification of families . Similarly to the classical theory of numberings, each of the approaches assigns to a family its own concept lattice. The first approach captures the cardinality of a family : if contains more than 2 elements, then the corresponding concept lattice FC1( ) is a modular lattice of height 3, such that the number of its atoms to the cardinality of . Our second approach gives a much richer environment. We prove that for any countable poset , there exists a family such that the induced concept lattice FC2 ( ) is isomorphic to the Dedekind-MacNeille completion of . We also establish connections with the class of enumerative lattices introduced by Hoyrup and Rojas in their studies of algorithmic randomness. We show that every lattice FC2 ( ) is anti-isomorphic to an enumerative lattice. In addition, every enumerative lattice is anti-isomorphic to a sublattice of the lattice FC2 ( ) for some family .

Abstract:Call a subset of $\mathbf{FIN}_k$ small if it does not contain a copy of $\langle{P\rangle}$ for some infinite block sequence $P \in \mathbf{FIN}_k^{[\infty]}$. Gowers' $\mathbf{FIN}_k$ theorem asserts that the set of small subsets of $\mathbf{FIN}_k$ forms an ideal, so it is sensible to consider almost disjoint families of $\mathbf{FIN}_k$ with respect to the ideal of small subsets of $\mathbf{FIN}_k$. We shall show that $\mathfrak{a}_{\mathbf{FIN}_k}$, the smallest possible cardinality of an infinite mad family of $\mathbf{FIN}_k$, is uncountable.

Abstract:In the several contexts such as combinatorial number theory, families of sets of positive integers closed under taking subsets have been investigated. %To investigate some property of an infinite set of positive integers, Then it is sometimes useful to give bijections between the set of the one-sided infinite sequences on the alphabet set $\{0,1\}$ and such a family of sets. The most typical example is the family of sum-free sets. Although such a kind of families covers a large class of families of sets, there are only a few considerations on bijections for the case where the sum-free property is replaced by another property. In this paper, we explicitly give a bijection and its inverse between the set of one-sided infinite sequences on the alphabet set $\{0,1\}$ and a family of sets which may be contained in a class of families closed under taking subsets. Moreover, we show that some extremal property in a particular family of sets is characterized by a discrete dynamical system based on this kind of bijections.

Abstract:We study clones modulo minor homomorphisms, which are mappings from one clone to another preserving arities of operations and respecting permutation and identification of variables. Minor-equivalent clones satisfy the same sets of identities of the form , also known as minor identities, and therefore share many algebraic properties. Moreover, it was proved that the complexity of the of a finite structure only depends on the set of minor identities satisfied by the polymorphism clone of . In this article we consider the poset that arises by considering all clones over a three-element set with the following order: we write if there exists a minor homomorphism from to . We show that the aforementioned poset has only three submaximal elements.

Abstract:In this paper it is proved that if a minimal system has the property that its sequence entropy is uniformly bounded for all sequences, then it has only finitely many ergodic measures and is an almost finite to one extension of its maximal equicontinuous factor. This result is obtained as an application of a general criterion which states that if a minimal system under an amenable group action is an almost finite to one extension of its maximal equicontinuous factor and has no infinite independent sets of length k for some k≥2, then it has only finitely many ergodic measures.
