Abstract:We use the Fock semicrossed product to define an operator algebra associated to a module over an integral domain. We consider the $C^*$-envelope of the semicrossed product, and then consider properties of these algebras as models for studying general semicrossed products.

Abstract:We study operator algebras associated to integral domains. In particular, with respect to a set of natural identities we look at the possible nonselfadjoint operator algebras which encode the ring structure of an integral domain. We show that these algebras give a new class of examples of semicrossed products by discrete semigroups. We investigate the structure of these algebras together with a particular class of representations.

The main goal of the paper is to find large classes of noncommutative domains in B(H) with prescribed universal operator models, acting on the full Fock space with n generators, and to study these domains and their universal models in connection with the Hardy algebras and the C^*-algebras they generate.

Abstract:In this article, we attempt to introduce the "Multiplier algebra" associated to the Fock representation that arising from the left-cancellative semigroup $\mathcal{S}$ (denoted by $M(\mathcal{S})$) by adopting the concept of multiplier algebra of a $C^*$-algebra. Then, we investigate the basic properties and examples of the multiplier algebras. In order to make sense of multiplier algebra, we establish two key results of the multiplier algebras. We demonstrate that $M(\mathcal{S})$ is an unital Banach algebra if $\mathcal{S}$ is a left-cancellative semigroup. In the consideration, $G$ is a group, we demonstrate that $M(G)$ is a $C^*$-algebra. We illustrate that the associated multiplier algebras $M(\mathbb{Z}_{+}), M(\mathbb{Z}^2_+)$ are identified with respective Hardy algebras $H^{\infty}(\mathbb{D})$ and $H^{\infty}(\mathbb{D}^2)$ for $\mathcal{S}=\mathbb{Z}_{+}, \mathbb{Z}^2_{+}.$ Next, we discuss that multiplier algebra associated to the free semigroup $\mathcal{S}=\mathbb{F}^+_{n}$. We clearly show that the well-known non-commutative Hardy algebra $\mathbb{F}_{n}^{\infty}$ (introduced and thoroughly studied by G. Popescu) and the multiplier algebra $M(\mathbb{F}_{n}^+)$ are isometrically isomorphic. Finally, using the operator space technique, we have demonstrated an intriguing result that $M(\mathcal{S})$ is an operator algebra (specifically, thanks to celebrated Blecher-Ruan-Sinclair theorem).

Abstract:We define the full and reduced non-self-adjoint operator algebras associated with étale categories and restriction semigroups, answering a question posed by Kudryavtseva and Lawson in [22]. Moreover, we define the semicrossed product algebra of an étale action of a restriction semigroup on a C ⁎ -algebra, which turns out to be the key point when connecting the operator algebra of a restriction semigroup with the operator algebra of its associated étale category. We also prove that in the particular cases of étale groupoids and inverse semigroups our operator algebras coincide with the C ⁎ -algebras of the referred objects.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce an $L^p$-operator algebraic analogue of Hilbert C*-modules. We initiate the theory of concrete $L^p$-modules, their morphisms, and basic constructions such as countable direct sums and tensor products. We then define $L^p$-correspondences together with their Fock representations and the $L^p$-operator algebras generated by these. We present evidence that well-known $L^p$-operator algebras can be constructed from $L^p$-correspondences via covariant Fock representations. In particular, for $p \in (1,\infty)$ and $q$ its Hölder conjugate, we show that the $L^p$-module $(\ell_d^p, \ell_d^q)$ gives rise to an $L^p$-correspondence over $\Bbb{C}$ whose $L^p$-operator algebra is isometrically isomorphic to $\mathcal{O}_d^p$, the $L^p$-analogue of the Cuntz algebra $\mathcal{O}_d$ introduced by N.C. Phillips in 2012. As a second example, we fix a nondegenerate $L^p$-operator algebra $A$ with a bicontractive approximate identity together with an isometric automorphism $\varphi_A \in \mathrm{Aut}(A)$. We then show that there is a contractive map from the crossed product $F^p(\Bbb{Z}, A, \varphi_A)$ to the $L^p$-operator algebra generated by the covariant Fock representation of the $L^p$-correspondence $(A, A, \varphi_A)$.

Abstract:Given two unital C*-algebras $A$ and $B$, we study, when it exists, the universal unital $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal{U}(A,B)$ generated by the coefficients of a unital $*$-homomorphism $\rho\,:\, A\rightarrow B\otimes\mathcal{U}(A,B)$. When $B$ is finite dimensional, it is well known that $\mathcal{U}(A,B)$ exists and we study in this case properties LP, RFD, primitiveness and the UCT as well as $K$-theory. We also construct a reduced version of $\mathcal{U}(A,B)$ for which we study exactness, nuclearity, simplicity, absence of non-trivial projection and $K$-theory. Then, we consider the von Neumann algebra generated by the reduced version and study factoriality, amenability, fullness, primeness, absence of Cartan, Connes' invariants, Haagerup property and Connes' embeddability. Next, we consider the case when $B$ is infinite dimensional: we show that for any non-trivial separable unital $C^*$-algebra $A$, $\mathcal{U}(A,B)$ exists if and only if $B$ is finite dimensional. Nevertheless, we show that there exists a unique unital locally $C^*$-algebra generated by the coefficients of a unital continuous $*$-homomorphism $\rho\,:\, A\rightarrow B\otimes\mathcal{U}(A,B)$. Finally, we study a natural quantum semigroup structure on $\mathcal{U}(A,A)$.

Algebras for enriched $\infty$-operads

Abstract:Using the description of enriched $\infty$-operads as associative algebras in symmetric sequences, we define algebras for enriched $\infty$-operads as certain modules in symmetric sequences. For $\mathbf{V}$ a symmetric monoidal model category and $\mathbf{O}$ a $\Sigma$-cofibrant operad in $\mathbf{V}$ for which the model structure on $\mathbf{V}$ can be lifted to one on $\mathbf{O}$-algebras, we then prove that strict algebras in $\mathbf{V}$ are equivalent to $\infty$-categorical algebras in the symmetric monoidal $\infty$-category associated to $\mathbf{V}$. We also show that for an $\infty$-operad $\mathcal{O}$ enriched in a suitable closed symmetric monoidal $\infty$-category $\mathcal{V}$, we can equivalently describe $\mathcal{O}$-algebras in $\mathcal{V}$ as morphisms of $\infty$-operads from $\mathcal{O}$ to a self-enrichment of $\mathcal{V}$.

Abstract:We propose a generalisation of Exel's crossed product by a single endomorphism and a transfer operator to the case of actions of abelian semigroups of endomorphisms and associated transfer operators. The motivating example for our definition yields new crossed products, not obviously covered by familiar theory. Our technical machinery builds on Fowler's theory of Toeplitz and Cuntz-Pimsner algebras of discrete product systems of Hilbert bimodules, which we need to expand to cover a natural notion of relative Cuntz-Pimsner algebras of product systems.

Abstract:We study $p$-adic operator algebras, which are nonarchimedean analogues of $C^*$-algebras. We demonstrate that various classical examples of operator algebras - such as group(oid) algebras - have a nonarchimedean counterpart. The category of $p$-adic operator algebras exhibits a similar flavor to the category of real and complex $C^*$-algebras, featuring limits, colimits, tensor products, crossed products and an enveloping construction permitting us to construct $p$-adic operator algebras from involutive algebras over $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$. Finally, we briefly discuss an analogue of topological $K$-theory for Banach $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$-algebras, and compute it in basic examples, like Cuntz algebras and rotation algebras.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to exploit the structure of strongly continuous operator semigroups in order to formulate a categorical framework in which a fresh perspective can be applied to past operator theoretic results. In particular, we investigate the inverse-producing Arens extension for Banach algebras (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 88:536-548, 1958) adapted for operators and operator semigroups by Batty and Geyer (J. Operator Theory 78(2):473-500, 2017) in this new framework, asking and answering questions using categorical language. We demonstrate that the Arens extension defines an extension functor in this setting and that it forms an adjunction with the suitably defined forgetful functor. As a by-product of this categorical framework, we also revisit the work on Banach direct sums by Lachowicz and Moszyński (Semigroup Forum 93(1):34-70, 2016). This paper can be considered as a brief exploration of the triple interface between operator semigroups, Banach algebras, and category theory.

Higher crossed modules of algebras over an operad

Abstract:We study crossed modules in the context of algebras over an operad. To do so, in the first section, we adapt the methods of Janelidze by reviewing the notions of internal actions, precrossed modules and crossed modules in the operadic case. Moreover, we extract the Peiffer relations, well known in the Lie case, for precrossed modules over an arbitrary operad. We prove that our notion of crossed modules is equivalent to the one of Janelidze by proving that our crossed modules of algebras over a fixed operad are equivalent to categories internal to algebras over this fixed operad. In the second section, we study the notion of crossed modules of algebras over an operad as introduced by Leray-Riviere-Wagemann in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2411.04614" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2411.04614">arXiv:2411.04614</a> and prove it to be equivalent to the already existing notions of crossed modules. Roughly speaking, a crossed module in the sense of Leray-Rivière-Wagemann is an algebra structure on a chain complex concentrated in degrees 0 and 1. We highlight a "codescent" process which allows us to endow the degree one and zero terms of the chain complex with algebra structures such that the differential is an algebra morphism. Moreover, we prove it to be a crossed module. In fact we prove that the approach to crossed modules of Leray-Riviere-Wagemann is equivalent to the one of Janelidze. This new approach, together with the codescent process, allows us to introduce higher crossed modules in a very concise and explicit way, and we prove them to be equivalent to n-fold categories internal to algebras, for some n.

Abstract:In a recent paper, we introduced and studied the class of admissible noncommutative domains $D_{g^{-1}}(H)$ in $B(H)^n$ associated with admissible free holomorphic functions $g$ in noncommutative indeterminates $Z_1,\ldots, Z_n$. Each such a domain admits a universal model ${\bf W}:=(W_1,\ldots, W_n)$ of weighted left creation operators acting on the full Fock space with $n$ generators. In the present paper, we continue the study of these domains and their universal models in connection with the Hardy algebras and the $C^*$-algebras they generate. We obtain a Beurling type characterization of the invariant subspaces of the universal model ${\bf W}:=(W_1,\ldots, W_n)$ and develop a dilation theory for the elements of the noncommutative domain $D_{g^{-1}}(H)$. We also obtain results concerning the commutant lifting and Toeplitz-corrona in our setting as as well as some results on the boundary property for universal models.

On $C^*$-algebras associated to transfer operators for countable-to-one maps

Abstract:Our initial data is a transfer operator $L$ for a continuous, countable-to-one map $\varphi:\Delta \to X$ defined on an open subset of a locally compact Hausdorff space $X$. Then $L$ may be identified with a `potential', i.e. a map $\varrho:\Delta\to X$ that need not be continuous unless $\varphi$ is a local homeomorphism. We define the crossed product $C_0(X)\rtimes L$ as a universal $C^*$-algebra with explicit generators and relations, and give an explicit faithful representation of $C_0(X)\rtimes L$ under which it is generated by weighted composition operators. We explain its relationship with Exel-Royer's crossed products, quiver $C^*$-algebras of Muhly and Tomforde, $C^*$-algebras associated to complex or self-similar dynamics by Kajiwara and Watatani, and groupoid $C^*$-algebras associated to Deaconu-Renault groupoids. We describe spectra of core subalgebras of $C_0(X)\rtimes L$ and use it to characterise simplicity of $C_0(X)\rtimes L$ and prove the uniqueness theorem for $C_0(X)\rtimes L$. We give efficient criteria for $C_0(X)\rtimes L$ to be a Kirchberg algebra, and we discuss relationship between KMS states on the core subalgebra of $C_0(X)\rtimes L$ and conformal measures for $\varphi$.

On upper triangular operator matrices over C*-algebras

Abstract:We study adjointable, bounded operators on the direct sum of two copies of the standard Hilbert C*-module over a unital C*-algebra A that are given by upper triangular 2 by 2 operator matrices. Using the definition of A-Fredholm and semi-A-Fredholm operators given in [3], [4], we obtain conditions relating semi-A-Fredholmness of these operators and that of their diagonal entries, thus generalizing the results in [1], [2]. Moreover, we generalize the notion of the spectra of operators by replacing scalars by the center of the C*-algebra A denoted by Z(A).Considering these new spectra in Z(A) of bounded, adjointable operators on Hilbert C*-modules over A related to the classes of A-Fredholm and semi-A-Fredholm operators, we prove an analogue or a generalized version of the results in [1] concerning the relationship between the spetra of 2 by 2 upper triangular operator matrices and the spectra of their diagonal entries.

Abstract:We introduce a general definition of a $n$-crossed module of $P$-algebras over an algebraic operad $P$, which coincides with historical definitions in the cases of the operads As and Lie and $n = 1$. We establish a natural isomorphism between the abelian group of equivalence classes of $n$-crossed modules over a pair $(A,M)$ for an operad $P$ and the $(n+1)^\text{th}$ operadic cohomology group of $A$ with coefficients in $M$.

Abstract:This is an introduction to the algebras $A\subset B(H)$ that the linear operators $T:H\to H$ can form, once a complex Hilbert space $H$ is given. Motivated by quantum mechanics, we are mainly interested in the von Neumann algebras, which are stable under taking adjoints, $T\to T^*$, and are weakly closed. When the algebra has a trace $tr:A\to\mathbb C$, we can think of it as being of the form $A=L^\infty(X)$, with $X$ being a quantum measured space. Of particular interest is the free case, where the center of the algebra reduces to the scalars, $Z(A)=\mathbb C$. Following von Neumann, Connes, Jones, Voiculescu and others, we discuss the basic properties of such algebras $A$, and how to do algebra, geometry, analysis and probability on the underlying quantum spaces $X$.
